Chandigarh March 15:- Smt. Kirron Kher, Member Parliament, UT, Chandigarh today inaugurated Community Centre at Ram Darbar, here in presence of Sh. Anup Gupta, Mayor, Sh. Dharm Pal, IAS, Adviser to the Administrator, Chandigarh, Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS, Commissioner, Ms. Neha, area councillor, other councilors and prominent persons of the area.
While addressing the gathering, the Member Parliament said that the Community centres offer an opportunity for people to become involved in a wide range of activities. They promote a sense of belonging and social inclusion. They provide a place where the community can meet and engage in collective activities. She said the centres are strategically located to serve the citizens which are used for cultural programmes, to organise marriages and for other social activities.
She said the idea of the community centre is to offer a place where all members of the community from young to old can meet for various activities. All too often it’s the only such place available in a community.
The Member Parliament said that the city beautiful has 45 Community Centres that cater for a variety of community activities. She said the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation not only facilitating the public in a better manner through centralizing the services of booking of Community Centres through e-Sampark, but keeping the system impartial in terms of booking these centres.
On the occasion, the Mayor Sh. Anup Gupta said that the Community Centre has been spread over an area of 1 acre. The total cost of Construction of this 3 storey building comes out to Rs. 07.32 Crore and the building comprises of facilities such as bride room, Gymnasium/Indoor games, senior citizen room, office/Sampark centre, stair case, lift, library, family room, store, entrance lobby, gents & ladies toilet, pantry, kitchen, chowkidar room, sitting area, store/record room, toilet for disabled, etc. The said building has also a provision of parking for 22 cars. The Community centre is fully air-conditioned with provision of fire fighting and fire sensing also. The building is constructed as a Green building with 3 Star Griha Rating.
The Mayor said that this community centre will be a good asset to the residents of local area as they can organize parties and other programmes in very nominal government rates in their doorsteps.
