*Backlane beautification work boosts cleanliness drive in Chandigarh*
*Chandigarh, March 17:-* Chandigarh Municipal Corporation has taken up transformation of around 126 km-long network of 566 backlanes, a feat attributed not only to the cleanliness of its public roads but also to the effective cleaning and improvement of residential backyard.
Following the directions of Sh. Amit Kumar, IAS, Commissioner, MC Chandigarh the B&R wing has launched a special campaign to clean and beautify approximately 566 backlanes across the city. He said that these paved backlanes, which are concrete or cement pathways, are undergoing beautification.
The Municipal Corporation is enhancing these areas by cleaning the lanes, implementing 3R (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) activities, improving lighting and repairing the damaged areas. These efforts are aimed at making these areas clean, tidy, and aesthetically pleasing, said the Commissioner.
He said that this initiative underscores the civic body’s commitment to comprehensive cleanliness and its focus on improving the quality of the life for its residents. Some prominent concepts of the backlane transformation include general beautification, environmental orientation and special repair of the damaged areas besides pruning of trees approaching these backlanes, he added.
