Chandigarh, February 22, 2025 – As AKHAADA 5.0 charged into its third day, the energy at University Institute of Legal Studies (UILS), Panjab University, was at an all-time high. With every match, every rally, and every goal, the competition grew fiercer, and the crowd louder. Students, faculty, and sports enthusiasts came together once again to celebrate the spirit of teamwork, resilience, and unwavering passion for sports.

The event continued under the guidance of Chief Patron & Director of UILS, Prof. Dr. Shruti Bedi, with Chief Guest pu Director of Sports Dr. Rakesh Malik and Faculty Coordinator Prof. Dr. Virender Negi cheering on the participants. Their words of encouragement fueled the athletes to give their best, reinforcing the values of discipline and sportsmanship.


Behind the scenes, faculty members Dr. Nancy Sharma, Mr. Sanjeev Sharma, Ms. Kriti, Ms. Nikita Chhabra, Ms. Maanika A. Chaudhary, Ms. Meena Singh, Dr. Deepak Thakur, Ms. Atamibir Kaur, Mr. Satinder Singh, Ms. Garima Nayyar, Dr. Purushottam, Mr. Vijay Kumar, and Dr. Vijayalaxmi worked tirelessly to ensure the smooth conduct of the events. Their dedication was evident in the seamless execution of every match and competition.

Meanwhile, the organizing committee—led by Mehrab Singh Gill (President, Sports Committee), Vaibhav Nagpal and Sherry Chibber (Convenors), and Avjit Sodhi and Ishaan Panwar (Co-Convenors)—kept the momentum going, making sure that Akhaada 5.0 remained an unforgettable experience for everyone involved.

• Cricket: The Department of Laws claimed victory, with Rahul Nain leading his team with a performance to remember.
• Football: The boys from PGGC 11 brought their A-game, securing a hard-fought win on the field.
• Table Tennis: Deepanshu from Physical Education showcased his agility and precision to clinch the title.
• Volleyball: Physical Education dominated the court, sealing a well-deserved victory.
• Tug of War: In a powerful display of strength and teamwork, UILS emerged victorious in both the men’s and women’s categories, much to the delight of their roaring supporters.
• Badminton:
• Men’s Singles & Doubles: Physical Education displayed unmatched skill to sweep both titles.
• Women’s Singles & Doubles: UILS stood tall, proving their excellence on the badminton court.

PU Chemistry Department Organises RC Paul National Symposium and Chandigarh Chapter of NASI

In fond memory of Prof. Ram Chand Paul, the Department of Chemistry and Centre for Advanced Studies in Chemistry at Panjab University, Chandigarh, organised a two-day National Symposium on “Sustainable Development in Chemical Sciences: Innovations and Start-ups” on 21-22 February 2025. 

Nearly 160 participants from across India showcased their scientific results in the form of posters and oral presentations.

Prof. Yojna Rawat, Director of RDC, Panjab University, Chandigarh, graced the inaugural ceremony and shared her views on sustainable development and its importance in today’s era. In his welcome address, Prof. Ganga Ram Chaudhary, Chairman of the Department of Chemistry, discussed the objectives of the conference with the audience. The convener of the conference, Dr. S.C. Sahoo, explained how the conference would channelise intellectual resources for the betterment of society.

The keynote speaker, Prof. Ravi Singh from IIT Delhi, presented on “Atropisomerism in the Realm of Pharmaceutically Relevant Compounds,” updating the participants on various aspects of chirality. Day one included three technical sessions, during which subject experts from highly reputed institutions such as JNU Delhi, University of Delhi, IIT Roorkee, INST Mohali, IMTech, and NIT Jalandhar shared their innovative research outcomes. The invited talks were followed by parallel oral and poster sessions.

Day 2 began with an inaugural address by Prof. R.K. Kohli, Vice Chancellor of Amity University, Mohali, who spoke about the Chandigarh Chapter of NASI. The Guest of Honour, Dr. R. K. Joshi, Scientist-F at DST, New Delhi, provided a detailed discussion on how to write a research proposal, offering valuable insights for the young minds in the audience. He explained key factors that contribute to the success of a research proposal.

Following the inauguration, Session I focused on the popularisation of science. Prof. Narinder Singh from IIT Ropar discussed various strategies for mitigating industrial pollution, while Prof. Manoj Kumar Teotia from CRRID Chandigarh shared his views on combating climate change by promoting the vectors of sustainable development. Session II covered discussions on target-specific anticancer agents and the role of green analytical chemistry in forensic toxicology, with presentations by Prof. Sankar K. Guchhait from NIPER Mohali and Prof. Rajeev Jain from CFSL Chandigarh. This was followed by parallel oral and poster sessions.

The valedictory function included awards for the best poster and oral presentations. The deliberations of the conference are expected to prove beneficial in many ways for the young researcher minds.

डब्लू डी इंजीनियर ने पी डब्लू डी कांट्रेक्टर को 77 रनों से हराया

पंचकूला, 22 फरवरी – पी डब्लू डी इंजीनियर और पी डब्लू डी कांट्रेक्टर के बीच हुए क्रिकेट मैच में पी डब्लू डी इंजीनियर ने 77 रनों से जीत लिया।

रामगढ़ के मोहित ग्राउंड में हुए मुकाबले में कार्यकारी अभियंता आशीष चौहान की टीम ने पहले टॉस जीतकर खेलना शुरू किया और टीम ने 8 विकेट गंवाकर 212 रन का स्कोर खड़ा किया। इसमें परमिल ने 34 बॉल पर 55 रन, कलम ने 28 और सुनील ने 27 रन बनाए। प्रशांत ने चार ओवर में 48 रन देकर तीन विकेट लिए।

इसके मुकाबले पी डब्लू डी कॉन्ट्रैक्टर की टीम प्रशांत शर्मा कैप्टन के नेतृत्व में निर्धारित 20 ओवर में 135 रन पर पूरी टीम सिमट गई। इसमें अजय ने 37, अनिल ने 26 रन बनाए। सुनील ने चार ओवर में 15 रन देकर दो विकेट लिए, आशीष चौहान ने चार ओवर में 28 रन देकर दो विकेट लिए। इस प्रकार पी डब्लू डी इंजीनियर टीम विजई हुई।

*2nd Day of Rose Festival, 2025*

*Punjabi and Sufi music shows enthralled audience by famous classical numbers*

*Chandigarh, February 22:-* Cultural function, performances and competitions marked the 2nd day of the three-day Chandigarh Rose Festival at Rose Garden, sector 16, Chandigarh with the Sufiana musical performance by Balbir, Punjabi Musical Show by Lopoke Brothers.

Balbir & Group Punjabi Musical Show arranged by Chandigarh Sangeet Natak Akademy and Punjabi Music Show by Lopoke Brothers just enthralled the audience by their performance on the main stage at Rose Garden, Sector 16, Chandigarh.

Sh. Amit Kumar, IAS, Commissioner, MC Chandigarh was the Chief Guest during the cultural performance by Lopoke Brothers. While Mrs. Taruna Mehta, Deputy Mayor was Chief Guest during the Sufiana Gayan by Sufi Balbir and group.

There were many attractions of this day which started with the Rose Prince and Rose Princess and then the Photography competition. After all this various cultural programmes were performed by various dances groups from various sides of our country.

            The main attractions of the day was the Mr. and Mrs. Rose competition that took place in the Rose Garden. In addition to that various cultural programmes were organized by the artists of North Zone Culture Centre (NZCC) and other local artists from schools and colleges. Different competitions and shows including traditional Folk dance of Punjab (Bhangra), traditional Folk Dance Nagada and traditional Folk Dance of Rajasthan (Ghoomar) were also organized during the second day. The results of the competitions held during 2nd day of Rose Festival are as under:
