Department of Chemistry Commemorates Late Prof. Dip Singh Gill with Memorial Lecture
The Department of Chemistry, Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh hosted a heartfelt memorial event to honour the legacy of Emeritus Professor Dip Singh Gill, a luminary in the field of chemistry. The event included a special lecture on “Functionalized Magnetic Nanoparticles for Sustainable Applications”, delivered by his distinguished student, Dr. Mandeep Singh Bakshi, currently serving at the University of Wisconsin – Green Bay.
The program began with a lamp-lighting ceremony, led by the Chief Guest, Registrar Prof. Y. P. Verma, Chairperson Prof Ganga Ram Chaudhary and Convener Prof Gurjaspreet Singh. The department extended a warm welcome to Prof. Kiran Dip Gill, a noted biochemist and the wife of the late professor Dip Singh Gill, and Dr. Mandeep Singh Bakshi.
The event paid tribute to Prof. Dip Singh Gill, whose remarkable journey—from his early life in Maujgarh, Punjab, to becoming a renowned scientist and mentor—was highlighted. Prof. Gill, a distinguished alumnus of Panjab University, Chandigarh, held an illustrious academic career spanning decades, culminating in his role as Chairman of the Department of Chemistry. His contributions to science and education continue to inspire.
The memorial lecture by Dr. Bakshi emphasized Prof. Gill’s profound impact as a mentor and scholar. Dr. Bakshi shared insights from his research on sustainable nanomaterials, a field shaped by Prof. Gill’s mentorship.
