PU Departmental Canteens to open with new guidelines

Chandigarh November 18, 2021

A committee constituted by Prof. Raj Kumar, Vice Chancellor, Panjab University, Chandigarh with regard to running of departmental canteens of Physics, Chemistry and Geology finalised the directions for the same which are as under:-

For Detailed News-

·        Departmental canteens be operated on the pattern of Tuck shops

·        Packed food be served. No cooking be allowed

·        Gas Cylinders not to be used in such canteens.

·        Electrical Oven, Induction plates and Vending machines for tea/coffee and re-heating of cooked food may be permitted.

·        Timings of the departmental canteens be restricted from 9.00 am to 6.00 pm

·        There should be no preparation of breakfast, lunch and dinner in these canteens.

·        Provisions of Chairs and tables be allowed only within the built up area of the canteen and on violation of this, a fine of Rs. 5000/- be imposed after any such violation is reported by the Chairperson of the concerned department.

The Chairpersons of the respective departments are informed to share the information with the concerned canteen contractors accordingly to incorporate the above directions.

One Day Workshop on Drug De-Addiction at PU

The National Cadet Corps (NCC), Panjab University, Chandigarh and Centre for Human Rights and Duties, Panjab University, Chandigarh organized a one day workshop for NCC Cadets of PU  on Drug De-addiction.

Dr. Kuldeep Singh, Coordinator, NCC, PU introduced the theme of the workshop and relevance of Drug De-addiction in present times.

Professor (Dr.) Monica.M.Singh introduced the speaker Dr. Ajeet Sidana, Professor, Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32, Chandigarh.

Dr. Sidana discussed about different types of substance use disorders and its effects on human mind and behaviour. He discussed about the different methods of treatment of drug de-addiction that could help the victim to overcome the habit of taking drugs over the period. Through various case studies, he put forth that drug addiction should be treated like an ailment under medical prescription and guidance. He added that an individual suffering should not be treated like an outcaste and should be provided requisite assistance both by family and society. Dr. Sidana answered the questions of the cadets with respect to social and legal aspect of drug de-addiction.

Dr. Namita Gupta, Assistant Professor, Centre for Human Rights and Duties, PU proposed the vote of thanks for providing a fruitful insight into the concept. Approximate 75 cadets/ Students participated in the Workshop.
