 Mr Rastogi not only engaged the audience interactively by holding two polling sessions but also deciphered different factors for the successful Industry-Academia Partnership.

Professor Indu Pal Kaur, Chairperson UIPS & President IIC-UIPS, welcomed the audience and introduced the Speaker. Mr Rastogi has a professional experience of 30+ years in Pharma & Healthcare Sector. He is an avid community builder and built India’s first Online B2B Barter Exchange Community & Marketplace, Health City Project on the principles of Collaborative Consumption.

 Around 200 participants joined the webinar that included students researchers, UIPS faculty and distinguished alumni.

PU DLIS Organizes Webinar Series

The Department of Library and Information Science, Panjab University, Chandigarh started new series under the title “PU DLIS Webinar Series” and organised three webinars from 4th– 6thAugust,2020 so to reach out to LIS students, research scholars and the professional colleagues to enhance their professional knowledge and update them in the Library and Information Science field.

In the first webinar Dr. Akhtar Parvez ,University Librarian, Maulana Azad National Urdu University, Hyderabad talked about “Copyright and fair use”. He gave many tips to the participants for fair use of copyright material like purchasing e-books which are DRM free, Archival rights of databases and specially the knowledge of transformative use of copyrighted material.

In the second webinar, Prof.S.P.Singh ,Emeritus Professor of UGC deliberated on “Misinformation, Disinformation, Malinformation and Fake News” and highlighted that all of us in the current information society must be able to differentiate among these and use only the factual information.

In the third webinar, Mr. Prem Chand ,Librarian, Indian Institute of Advanced Studies, Shimla talked on “Access to e-content to higher education institutions in India: an initiative of MHRD and UGC” wherein he deliberated on the issues and challenges in India’s higher education in terms of enrolment, faculty, accreditation and research. He also highlighted various initiatives undertaken by MHRD and UGC to provide e-resources for teaching and research.

Mayor launches app for uploading water meter reading

Chandigarh, August 6:- Smt. Raj Bala Malik, Mayor, Chandigarh and Sh. K.K. Yadav, IAS, Commissioner Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh inaugurated the application for uploading water meter reading on trust in presence of Sh. Mahesh Inder Singh Siddhu, area councillor of Ward No. 1, Chandigarh. Sh. S.S. Sidhu, Secretary RWA Sector- 9, Ms. Puneet, Joint Secretary, RWA Sector 9, Sh. Shailender Singh, Chief Engineer, Sh. S.K. Gill,   Executive Engineer and the representatives from SPIC were also present on the occasion.

While sharing information about the app, the Mayor said that for the ease of residents of Chandigarh, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh has created a facility wherein a consumer can upload his/her  water meter reading on the e-sampark mobile App/e-sampark web portal.  This facility has been developed by SPIC. Support for its success has also been extended by NIELTS, she added.

          The Mayor said that android/IOS users can download/install the e-sampark App and thereafter, meter reading can be uploaded through the App/web portal alongwith its picture. The details of the water account number are also required to be added.  Those residents, who have already downloaded the mobile App, will be required to update the same from App Store.

          She said that this is a big step taken by Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh which will enable the consumer to submit their water readings and thereby reducing the complaints of excess /wrong billing.

          The complete process for submitting the water readings is available on the website of Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh. The consumer should adhere to the instructions therein and water reading should be submitted only during the period in which it is due as detailed on the website.

IGNOU extends Admission up to 16th August, 2020

The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has extended the last date of submission of online Fresh & RR admission of all Masters, Bachelor, Diplomas & Certificates programmes up to 16th August, 2020 for the July-2020 session. Details of the IGNOU academic programmes for the July, 2020 session can be accessed from the link https://ignouadmission.samarth.edu.in/. The prospective learners can apply for Masters/Bachelor/Diploma/Certificate programmes of the University on the official website, informed The Regional Director of IGNOU Regional centre Chandigarh Dr. A.K.Dimri. Last date of submission of ‘online’ admission form for July session was earlier fixed for July 31.

TVC meeting held

Chandigarh, August 4:- A meeting of Town Vending Committee, Chandigarh was held in MCC today under the chairmanship of Sh. K.K. Yadav, IAS, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh.

During the meeting various important issues were discussed in detail and accorded approval for the following:

·        The committee considered the agenda item regarding waiving off Rs. 50 for street vendors in respect of filling up of loan applications through e-Sampark centres/bank mitra.

·        The committee accepted the amendments in street vendors (protection of livelihood and regulation of street vending), Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh Bye-laws, 2018 as per the approval of Administrator, Chandigarh Administration and notified by the MCC.

·        The committee decided that Joint Commissioner, MCC will review the work of engagement of society for promotion of information technology in Chandigarh.

·        The TVC approved the constitution of a committee to review and scrutinize the applications of non-surveyed street vendors in UT villages under PM SVANidhi scheme.

·        The committee members asked the concerned officers to check the representations regarding corrections in particulars of registered street vendors thoroughly.

·        The members asked the concerned officers to prepare sector wise report in regard to non-ESP and ESP with the latest notification and guidelines issued in this regard.

·        The members asked the concerned enforcement officials to act tough against the violators who found vending from the sites of registered vendors in their absence and challan them as per law.

·        The committee members asked the enforcement staff to nail down the unauthorized vendors from the city markets and internal roads etc.

The Chairman in agreement of all the members of Town Vending Committee conveyed to SSP, Chandigarh that Police Department and Traffic Department to take appropriate action against unregistered vendors and not harass the vendors registered with Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh. Also added to make sure SHO, Manimajra SHO, Sector 39 shall not harass the registered street vendor.

Other members of TVC including Sh. V.N. Sharma, Sh. Sita Ram, Sh. Ram Pal, Smt. Kamlesh, Smt. Gita, representatives from office of traffic police, SSP, Chief Architect’s and other officials of MCC were present during the meeting.

FDP – Exploring Science and Technology Interconnections

One week online Faculty Development Program on Exploring Science and Technology Interconnections was inaugurated today by Dean Student Welfare, Panjab University, Prof. S.K. Tomar. The FDP is being jointly organized by the Department of Applied Sciences, University Institute of Engineering and Technology, Panjab University Chandigarh and Department of Chemistry, Government College of Engineering and Technology, Jammu and is sponsored by Technical Education Quality Improvement programme of Government of India (TEQIP-III) .

The objective of the FDP is to provide a common platform for discussion between scientists  and engineers to draw a roadmap for strengthening the teaching and research of Applied Science in Engineering Institutes. 85 faculty members have registered for this faculty programme. Eminent speakers from different engineering, research institutes and university departments  will deliver talks on  the Significance of Applied Sciences, methodologies to make teaching of applied sciences interesting and useful, research and consultancy expectations from applied scientists etc..Two expert talks were delivered on the inaugural day. Prof. Sandeep Sahijpal, Department of Physics, Panjab University, Chandigarh delivered a talk about Solar system, its exploration and what humans can gain from it. He highlighted developments in remote sensing technology and progress of India in Space exploration.   Prof. Rama Sastry, Department of Chemical Sciences, IISER, Mohali delivered talk on “ The relevance of catalysis in organic synthesis”. He explained the importance of organic synthesis and how the catalysis can impact the synthesis.
