चंडीगढ, 14 अगस्त – स्वतंत्रता दिवस-2020 के अवसर पर हरियाणा के 12 पुलिस अधिकारियों को विशिष्ट सेवाओं के लिए राष्ट्रपति पुलिस पदक और सराहनीय सेवाओं के लिए पुलिस पदक से सम्मानित करने के लिए चुना गया है।

‘Late Sh Balram Ji Dass Tandon was a leader of the Ist Generation who belonged to the Politics of Ideology and not Politics of Power’ said Sh. J.P.Nadda, National President of Bhartiya Janta Party while virtually addressing the 2nd Balram Ji Dass Tandon Memorial Lecture organised today by Panjab University and Balram Ji Dass Tandon Charitable Foundation. 

He further added that Balram Ji Dass Tandon was a great Statesman and a great human being who used to take along everyone with his ideology. He used to give pious advice to all and was respected across the parties with his aura of peace. With his dedication and commitment towards party, he spread his ideology amongst all whom he touched in his life and even from jail, he used to uplift the morale of not only his family members but also of the party workers. Sh. Nadda also shared about his personal relations with him. He further added that carrying the legacy of Balram Ji Dass Tandon, the country is moving ahead on the path of Governance under the able leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister, Sh. Narendra Modi.

Sh. Sanjay Tandon, President, Balram Ji Dass Tandon Charitable Foundation, in his address shared that how as a father Sh Tandon had inspired and motivated him for various things in his life. He was motivated by his father for blood donation on his 18th Birthday and till now, 23 blood donations have been organized by him. He always encouraged them to exercise regularly, and inculcated in them  spiritual and religious values. The same values  are being inculcated in the next generations too, he added.

Prof. Raj Kumar, Vice Chancellor, Panjab University, Chandigarh extended his warm welcome on behalf of PU family to Sh. J.P. Nadda Ji and to Sh. Sanjay Tandon and his family. He shared that Balram Ji Dass Tandon was not only a political worker but also a social worker and a writer from whose life there is much to learn.

Earlier, a brief film on the life history of Sh. Balram Ji Dass Tandon was shown  and floral tributes were given by Sh. Sanjay Tandon and Prof. Raj Kumar. 

A few glimpses of the address given last year on the 1st memorial lecture by Sh. Venkaiah Naidu were also shown at the webinar.

128th Birth Anniversary of Prof. Ranganathan Celebrated

On the occasion of 128th Birth anniversary of Professor S. R. Ranganathan, National Professor and father of Library Science in India, the department of Library and Information Science and A.C. Joshi Library, Panjab University, Chandigarh in collaboration with Ranganathan Research Circle(RRC), New Delhi organised a webinar on the theme ‘Future of Librarianship in Digital Driven Era’ through cisco webex app.

In the webinar, Prof.Ronki Ram ,Dean, Faculty of Arts, Panjab University was the Chief Guest and Dr. S. M. Dhawan ,former head, National Physical Laboratory library, New Delhi, Dr. R.K. Chadha,Former Additional Secretary, Parliament Library, New Delhi and Dr.Narinder Kumar,Librarian, University of Delhi, Delhi were the resource persons.

Dr.Jivesh Bansal, Librarian welcomed all the guests. Prof. Preeti Mahajan ,Chairperson of the department introduced the theme of the webinar and Dr. P.R. Goswami ,Former Director,National Social Science Documentation Centre ( NASSDOC), and Convener of RRC elaborated the history and activities of Ranganathan Research Circle. In his presidential remarks, Prof Ronki Ram congratulated the organisers and praised the works of Dr Ranganathan especially the five laws which are apt in the present scenario. He furthermore highlighted the importance and need of a library and applauded the efforts of providing the right information to the right person at the right time.

Dr.Dhawan highlighted the library services and products which help in resource discovery as well as library management using softwares which in turn assist in managing the resources in context with digital interface along with the need, importance and impact of Library Consortia.

 Dr.R. K. Chadha said that we have moved from the digital era to the disruptive era which has impacted the whole system. He said under the knowledge economy, libraries need to change the landscape by closing demand of the current generation by providing skilful people with critical thinking and interdisciplinary approach. Dr Narendra Kumar elaborated the relevance of Libraries and highlighted that his works are relevant even today. He discussed the impact of increase in journals’ prices and other factors compared to educational situations resulting in a dilemma for libraries constantly.

Industry-Academia Interaction: Assess & Address R & D needs of MSMEs

COVID has brought immense potential of Indian MSMEs and has resulted in self-reliance — Nitin Gadkari

Technology Enabling Centre (TEC) of Panjab University , Chandigarh in collaboration with Research for Resurgence Foundation (RFRF), Nagpur and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises – Development Institute (MSME-DI), Ludhiana organized an online workshop  today on ‘Industry Academia Interaction: Assess and Address R&D Needs of MSMEs’ Nearly 100 MSMEs and about 150 academicians from different Institutes of higher learning attended this workshop. Hon’ Minister for MSME, Shri Nitin Gadkari graced this event with his presence as Chief Guest. Shri Mukul Kanitkar, Organizing Secretary, Bhartiya Shikshan Mandal (BSM) and Dr. Rajesh Biniwale ,Director General, RFRF graced the event with their presence as Guests of Honour.

The event started with a welcome address by Prof. Rajkumar, Vice Chancellor, Panjab University, who detailed the glorious history of Panjab University and its contribution towards research and nation building. He highlighted that the university is quite active even in these times of a pandemic and has organized around 350 webinars and submitted nearly 30 research projects.

Sh. Mukul Kanitkar, Guest of Honour of the webinar highlighted the nearly half-a-century long legacy of BSM. He also emphasized on the critical role played by RFRF in translating lab research towards solving national and societal needs. There is an urgent need to bridge the trust deficit between industry and academia and this remains a great challenge, he said. Industry participation in design and implementation of syllabus can be a way forward, as proposed in the new education policy. He also impressed the need for larger participation of industry with faculty members and provide more apprenticeships to students.

Shri Nitin Gadkari Ji, Hon’ble Minister MSME congratulated Panjab university for organizing the event. There is an ever-important role of academia-industry to come forward and join hands in these testing times of COVID19. Our large pool of talented population gives India an immense edge in these evolving global times. This would create numerous opportunities for converting knowledge to wealth, he emphasized. Sh. Gadkari said that policies should be driven to enable rapid development in backward districts of the country. The minister recalled several ways through which Punjab can contribute to the rural-centric growth model. This includes diversified farming with less and less reliance on traditional crops. COVID has brought immense potential of Indian MSMEs and has resulted in self-reliance and even export of medical technologies in the past few months. The minister assured increased liquidity by way of policies that are central and enabler to MSMEs.

He stressed that regional level interaction of industry-academia is a must for making youth capable to gain theoretical as well as practical knowledge. He discussed the various issues like ‘parali burning’, sugar conversion to ethanol, and many more of the region which needs industry-academia integration. He stressed that we must take decisions and do work with honesty and transparency.  

About 20 speakers from MSME industries shared their specific R&D needs in this workshop. Academia present in the workshop participated in this session with great enthusiasm. In due course of time, cross-functional teams of academicians are envisaged jointly by TEC and RFRF, in order to innovate on technologies required by MSMEs. Professor Renu Vig of Panjab University pitched before MSMEs the various technologies developed at Design Innovation Centre (DIC) of Panjab University.

TREE PLANTATION DRIVE AND HAND MADE BAGS MADE BY CHILDREN OF CONSTRUCTION WORKERS LAUNCHED AT PANJAB UNIVERSITY

On the occasion of Shri Krishan Janamashtmi and International Youth Day ,Dr. Parveen Kumar, Warden, Boys Hostel No. 5, Panjab University organized a Plantation Drive at the hostel premises in the presence of Professor S.K. Tomar, Dean Student Welfare (Men) and Prof. Sukhbir Kaur, Dean Student Welfare (Women) .

After the Plantation drive, the DSWs released the Handmade Bags made by the children of migrant construction workers. These children are living at the different construction sites of Panjab University campus sector 14, Chandigarh. All these bags were prepared by the waste newspapers under the guidance of Ms.Ishita Choudhary, student from Centre for Social Work, PU. Ishita is teaching these children since May 23rd 2020 on regular basis. These bags were prepared under the project Read to Lead…Kalam, Kitab aur Khwaeishen lead by Gaurav Gaur, Assistant Professor and NSS, Programme Officer, Panjab University.

Appreciating the efforts put-in by Ms Ishita in teaching and imparting this vocational training to the students, Prof Tomar said “What better we could have to mark this International Youth Day, today, where our own University students’ have come forward and voluntarily serving the children in need. They are doing their best during this pandemic times”. He interacted with these children and asked about their interests, daily routine, future plans and about their families etc. 

Prof Sukhbir Kaur, DSW (W) also  interacted with these children and motivated them to pursue their studies whole heartedly.

Dr. Gaurav Gaur shared that, this initiative has two objectives like:  teaching these children a vocational skill and promoting healthly and safe environment by optimum utilisation of waste newspapers. 

Dr. Parveen Kumar, Warden Boys Hostel no. 5, while applauding the efforts, offered his support in sustaining such initiatives.

बलरामजी दास टंडन एक ऐसा नाम है पुरे भारत और खासकर उत्तर भारत में लोगो के दिलों -दिमाग में बसा हुआ है। करुणा एवं सेवा को ही अपना धर्म मानने वाली शख्शियत स्व. श्री बलरामजी दास टंडन का मुख्य कार्य श्रेत्र उत्तर भारत रहा। उत्तर भारत के लोगों द्वारा आज भी इनका नाम गर्व एवं सम्मान से लिया जाता है।

चंडीगढ़ में मंगलवार को कोरोना संक्रमण से 26वीं मौत हो गई है। 81 वर्षीय बुजुर्ग महिला सेक्टर 43 चंडीगढ़ की रहने वाली थीं। वहीं 75 नए मामले सामने आए हैं। इनमें रैपिड एंटीजन टेस्ट से 28 मामले पॉजिटिव पाए गए हैं। इसके अलावा 11 मरीजों को आज स्वस्थ होने के बाद डिस्चार्ज कर दिया गया है। नए मरीजों को मिलाकर अब चंडीगढ़ में कुल संक्रमितों का आंकड़ा 1670 हो गया है और जल्द 1700 पार कर जाएगा।

वर्तमान में चंडीगढ़ में 628 मरीज एक्टिव हैं और 1015 कुल मरीज स्वस्थ हो चुके हैं। संक्रमण से अब तक 26 कोरोना मरीजों की मौत हो चुकी है।

पंचकूला में कोरोना संक्रमण के मरीज तेजी से बढ़ रहे हैं। सोमवार देर रात से मंगलवार शाम तक पंचकूला में कुल 38 मामले आए जिसमें 26 मरीज पंचकूला से हैं। इनमें सेक्टर-10 स्थित एक्सिस बैंक के 7 कर्मचारी भी शामिल हैं। इनके अलावा दो मरीज अभयपुर,एक पपलाेहा,सेक्टर-4 से चार मरीज, सूरजपुर और बीड़ घग्गर से तीन,सेक्टर 15, सेक्टर-14 से तीन मरीज, सेक्टर 9 से छह मरीज,सेक्टर-8 से पांच और सेक्टर-20 व कालका से दो मरीज काेराेना पाॅजिटिव आए हैं। इसके अलावा आज पंचकूला में सेक्टर 4 के रहने वाले 72 साल के बुजुर्ग की माैत हो गई।
