*Chandigarh, June 6:-* In a decisive anti-encroachment drive, the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh today reclaimed prime government land from illegal occupation in Pocket No. 9, Manimajra.

Acting on the clear directions of the MC Commissioner, Sh. Amit Kumar, IAS, the enforcement team and engineering wing, MCC removed unauthorized dairy structures and 48 illegally constructed huts from the site.

This action was part of the Corporation’s ongoing efforts to clear public land from encroachments and restore it for planned development and public use. The Commissioner had earlier instructed all relevant departments to identify and act against such encroachments without delay or exception.

The drive was carried out smoothly with full support from the local police and enforcement staff of the MCC. Adequate arrangements were made to avoid inconvenience to the general public during the operation.

Sh. Amit Kumar, IAS, Commissioner, reiterated that the MCC is committed to maintaining the sanctity of public land and will not tolerate any illegal occupation. He emphasized that strict action will continue to be taken against encroachers and that similar drives will be carried out in other areas of the city in the coming days.

He appealed to the public to refrain from encroaching on public land and to cooperate in maintaining the city’s cleanliness, order, and planned development.

Chandigarh MC Commissioner Sh. Amit Kumar, IAS, today inaugurated the renovated public toilet at Booth Market, Sector 22B in the presence of area Councillor Sh. Damanpreet Singh, MWA President, and local shopkeepers.

The renovation was undertaken on special demand from the market association and has been completed in accordance with the latest Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) guidelines.

The facility now includes accessible features for persons with disabilities, the visually impaired, and children, along with a dedicated transgender washroom and a sanitary vending machine for women.

Commissioner Sh. Amit Kumar personally interacted with the public and shop owners, listened to their civic concerns, and assured timely resolution. The market community expressed happiness and gratitude for the upgraded facility.

*MC Chandigarh conducts anti-encroachment drive in sector 34 Green Belt area*

*Chandigarh, June 4:-* In a proactive move to safeguard public spaces and maintain the aesthetic and ecological balance of the city, the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh today carried out an anti-encroachment drive in the green belt area opposite Sham Mall, Sector 34.

Following the directions of MC Commissioner Sh. Amit Kumar, IAS, the enforcement wing took strict action against illegal parking of cars, motorcycles, and scooters in the green belt — a space reserved for greenery and public recreation. Such unauthorized usage not only causes inconvenience to the public but also damages the environment and violates civic norms.

During the drive, the enforcement team issued 20 challans to violators including Cars: 7 challans and Motorcycles/Scooters: 13 challans.

The Commissioner emphasized that public green spaces are meant for environmental sustainability and community use, and their encroachment by vehicles or any illegal activity will not be tolerated.

 This drive is part of MCC’s ongoing efforts to enforce discipline, promote responsible civic behavior, and ensure proper utilization of public land.

Commissioner Sh. Amit Kumar, IAS has directed all enforcement teams to regularly monitor such areas and take immediate action where violations are observed. He also appealed to citizens to support these efforts by parking only in designated areas and respecting public property.

The Municipal Corporation will continue to carry out such drives across the city in the coming weeks.

*Chandigarh, May 31:–* The Municipal Corporation Chandigarh, in coordination with the Police Department and the Marketing Committee, conducted an anti-encroachment drive today in Sabji Mandi, Sector 26.

Following the directions of MC Commissioner Sh. Amit Kumar, IAS, the enforcement team actively cleared unauthorized structures and obstructions, including rheris, wooden planks, plastic crates, and balance tables.

During the drive total 42 challans were issued on the spot for violations of Municipal norms. The drive was aimed at maintaining public order, ensuring free pedestrian movement, and upholding cleanliness in the market area.

The Municipal Corporation reiterated its commitment to keeping public spaces free from encroachment and urged vendors to cooperate by operating within designated zones. Such drives will continue regularly to ensure proper enforcement and improved urban management.

*MCC sub panel meeting held to finalize Smart Parking Solution Project for Chandigarh*

*Chandigarh, May 31:–* A meeting of the committee to finalize the Smart Parking Solution project of the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh was held today under the chairmanship of Sh. Saurabh Joshi. The meeting was attended by Sh. Umesh Ghai, Councillor, and other concerned officials of MCC.

The committee held detailed deliberations on various aspects of the Smart Parking project, including the overall scope of work, hardware and software components, and the eligibility and technical criteria for prospective bidders. Key features such as pink parking provisions for women, internet connectivity for real-time parking management, pre-booking of paid parking slots, and pre-paid parking cards for use across Chandigarh were discussed and finalized.

The committee also reviewed terms related to SLA penalties for non-compliance with RFP conditions, technical audit of IT tools, and the inclusion of a panic button feature in pink parking zones. Additional aspects finalized included mobile app and web portal-based slot booking, portal cabin specifications, stamp duty clauses, and surrender/exit terms for the service.

*Chandigrh, May 26:-* A delegation of five officials from Andhra Pradesh, led by Sri K. Kannababu, IAS, Commissioner of APCRDA (Andhra Pradesh Capital Region Development Authority), paid a day-long visit to Chandigarh to study the best practices of the local Municipal Corporation.”

The visit started with the presentation on best practices of Municipal Corporation at the MC office, Sector 17. Later, they were taken for site visits of MC.

Joint Commissioner Sh. Himanshu Gupta & Chief Engineer Sh. Sanjay Arora welcomed the delegation at MC office followed by a brief introduction of the projects and best practices and functions of the MC Chandigarh.

They gave a brief presentation on solid waste management system, segregation waste system, maintenance of roads, water supply system, maintenance of gardens and green belts, streetlights, tertiary treated water supply, Storm water management, Sewerage Treatment Plants, processing of construction and demolition (C&D) waste plant, horticulture waste processing plant, property tax, management of Gaushalas, vendor rehabilitation system and other projects of the MCC. The Delegation appreciated the operation and maintenance of the city and water supply system & solid management system in the city.

A meeting of the Enforcement Committee, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh was held here today under the chairmanship of Sh. Rajinder Sharma. The meeting was attended by Senior Deputy Mayor Sh. Jasbir Singh Bunty, Councillors Sh. Yogesh Dhingra and Sh. Dharminder Singh, along with concerned officials of MCC.

The committee unanimously resolved to initiate a citywide survey aimed at assessing the present status and distribution of street vendors operating across Chandigarh. The objective of the survey is to gather accurate data regarding the number of vendors, their locations, nature of goods and services offered, and the challenges they face.

 This comprehensive exercise will serve as a foundation for formulating effective policies and regulations to ensure organized vending zones, improve public convenience, and maintain civic order. It will also help in identifying unauthorized encroachments and ensuring that the rights of registered vendors are protected in accordance with the Street Vendors (Protection of Livelihood and Regulation of Street Vending) Act.

*Chandigarh, May 21:-* A review meeting of subcommittee constituted for preparing RFP of Smart parking solutions was held here today under the chairmanship of Sh. Saurabh Joshi, councilor and attended by other members of the sub committee namely Sh. Umesh Ghai, Smt. Jaswinder Kaur, Sh. Sumeet Sihag, Joint Commissioner, other concerned officers of MCC and Stakeholders from the city.

During the review meeting the stakeholders suggested that in the paid parking areas, the earmarking for car, scooter be made in each paid parking lots, pits in the roads and parking areas be repaired, provision of car parking at the backside of showrooms and for customer at front of showrooms be made, manpower be deployed as per the parking norms.

The committee members and the stakeholders further suggested that an automated system in paid parking areas be implemented like fastag provision, monthly pass, use of stencils for each paid parking areas, city pass for public, pre-paid cards system be implemented, provision of fire brigade in paid parking lots to avoid any untoward situation, and earmarking of differently able persons.

The stakeholders suggested that there should be provision of display boards at each paid parking area for information for the general public of availability of parking space for the four and two wheelers and parking rates should be displayed in this board in the round figures for the convenience of general public.

The committee and stakeholders given other valuable suggestions including provision of digital board capacity for real time parking availability, promotion of underground parking, provision of CCTV camera in each paid parking areas and development of mobile application for parking guidance for promotion of digital payment and avoid cash system. They suggested that the Smart parking project should be hundred percent automation basis, no manual intervention should be involved and redressal system also needs to be created for the convenience of general public.

The team even visited Elante Mall to get a firsthand look at existing automated parking systems and smart features.

The Smart Parking project aims to bring a host of modern conveniences:

 * Real-Time Parking Info: Say goodbye to circling blocks! Sensors and cameras will provide live updates on available parking spots via a mobile app and on-street signs.

 * Your Phone is Your Parking Buddy: The project includes an easy-to-use mobile app to find, book, and pay for parking – all from your smartphone.

 * Go Cashless: Forget fumbling for change. Payments will be seamless through cards, digital wallets, and UPI.

 * Smart Guidance: The app and on-site signs will offer turn-by-turn directions to vacant parking spaces.

 * No More Tickets: License plate recognition technology will enable automatic entry and exit at parking facilities.

 * More Space, Smarter Parking: Automatic multi-level parking systems will efficiently stack vehicles, maximizing parking capacity.

 * Dynamic Pricing: Parking fees may adjust based on factors like demand and time of day.

 * Added Perks: The plan includes extra services such as charging points for electric vehicles, CCTV surveillance for enhanced security, and potential integration with public transport ticketing.

The Municipal Corporation will soon release a public Request for Proposal (RFP), inviting experienced smart parking companies to submit their proposals.

“This project will significantly simplify parking, reduce traffic congestion caused by drivers searching for spots, and ultimately enhance convenience for everyone in Chandigarh,” stated Chairperson Saurabh Joshi. *Chandigarh, May 13:-* City Mayor Mrs. Harpreet Kaur Babla has given a call to all the citizens of city beautiful to come together to donate blood and help save lives during a mega Blood Donation Camp scheduled to be organized on 14th May 2025 across six key locations in the city.

While sharing about the mega blood donation camp for the noble cause, the Mayor said that this special initiative aims to promote the spirit of voluntary blood donation among citizens.

She urged residents to come forward and donate blood to save a life. Let this be a tribute to our soldiers who sacrifice for our safety. Your contribution can truly make a difference,” she said.

The camp is being conducted in active partnership with various NGOs, Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) and Market Welfare Associations (MWAs) and will be supported by trained healthcare professionals from Government Hospitals to ensure safe, hygienic, and efficient blood collection procedures.

She said that the Blood Donations camps will be started at 9.00 am sharp simultaneously in all the six locations throughout city at following locations:

• Community Centre, Manimajra Complex (Gobindpura)

• Mahila Bhawan, Sector 38

• Sector 15 Market

• Sector 19 Market

• Community Centre, Sector 28C
