*Chandigarh, September 8:-* Sh. Anup Gupta, Mayor, Chandigarh said that today Municipal Corporation sought advance against the 3rd installment of Grant in aid share ie 135 crores.

It is pertinent to mention that the Mayor had met the Hon’ble Administrator UT and sought funds so that the on going developmental works are not hit. While sharing this information here today, the Mayor said that the Administration has assured early release of Rs. 25 crores as advance from its 3rd installment of Grant in aid share of 135 crores.

He further said that, at no cost shall development of the city be stopped and that the Municipal Corporation is committed to serving the people of the city.

However, the unwavering support of her family and husband helped her navigate this path. Adorned with the winning crown, she reflects on how such accomplishments erase the memories of hardships.

Now, Ashia’s aspiration extends to representing her nation on an International platform as she will represent India at the Mrs Universe 2023 pageant to be held in the Philippines in October. The Mayor, Chandigarh extended his best wishes to Ashia for the Mrs. Universe 2023 contest.

Professor Indu Pal Kaur, Professor of Pharmaceutics and Former Chairperson, University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (UIPS), Panjab University was bestowed upon with the prestigious Association of Pharmaceutical Teachers of India (APTI) – Dr. (Mrs.) Manjushree Pal Memorial Award for the Best Pharmaceutical Scientist on 2nd September 2023 at PSIT, Kanpur, to recognise and celebrate her immense contribution of over three decades to Pharmaceutical Sciences. The award was presented by Chief Guest Mr Brajesh Pathak, Deputy CM, UP government and Dr Monty M Patel, President Pharmacy Council of India (PCI); along with Sh. Arun Kumar Pandey Senior Vice President,  Alkem labs; APTI president, Dr. Milind Umekar during the 26th Annual National Convention APTICON 2023.

APTI is an association founded by the pioneers of Pharmacy education in India in 1966 by leading personalities like Prof. M. .L Schroff, Prof. G. P Srivastava and others, which have come a long way in creating better intercommunication and promotion of excellence in pharmacy education. Every year, the outstanding contributions of eminent pharmacists are recognized and conferred APTI Awards during the APTI Annual National/ International Convention and Indian Pharmaceutical Congress held every year.

Professor Kaur is a US-Fulbright fellow (2017-18) & has received National Intellectual Property Award 2021 & 2022 for Top Indian Individual for Patents Filing, Grant & Commercialization; World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) Medal for Inventors (2023); Organisation of Pharmaceutical Producers of India, OPPI 2018); Technology Awards (BIRAC Regional Innovation Centre (BRIC) 2019 & 2020, Grand Innovation Challenge by Indian Pharmaceutical Alliance (2021); Researcher of the Year award (2019 & 2022), by Sunpure Research Incubation centre.

Recently, US Embassy, USPTO also recognised Professor Kaur UIPS, for her I P value on the World IP Day by putting up a social media post describing the ‘Equation’ that makes her up including the Value Factors that went into her innovations.

Prof. Kaur has received funding for project and Beamtime Application at the ISIS facility – Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, UK, 2017; 2023. She has transferred four technologies developed in her lab to the Industry. She has been granted fifteen Indian and one US patent out of 31 filed patent applications. Prof. Kaur is consistently listed among 2% top cited global scientists in Pharmacy and Pharmacology category across the globe as per Stanford University, USA, since 2020. Her lab is highly funded and has several collaborations with scientists across the globe,

*Mayor starts work of strengthening of damaged sewer line backside Sec. 19 SCOs & near market sector 21*

*Chandigarh, September 2:-* Sh. Anup Gupta, Mayor, Chandigarh today started two projects of strengthening of damaged sewer line at sector 19 and strengthening of sewer network by providing and laying additional sewer line near sector 21 market.

While sharing information about the projects, the Mayor said that numerous complaints were received from residents of sector 19 regarding blockage of sewer line. During inspection it was found that the sewer line backside SCOs got damaged. Now with the provision of new sewerage system, the sewerage will flow smoothly and the area residents will get rid of the sewerage blockage. He said that the work will be completed at estimated cost of Rs. 9.75 lacs within 3 months time period.

The Mayor further informed that the project of providing and laying 300mm pipeline having approximately length of 233 mtr. and construction of 11 machine hole chambers to resolve the blockage problem in the affected area near meat market to Baba dairy, sector 21 will be completed at an estimated cost of Rs. 11.87 lacs. He said this will not only benefit the shopkeepers but also the visitors from the overflowing sewerage problem.

*Chandigarh, September 2:-* City Mayor Sh. Anup Gupta on Saturday inaugurated a toilet block in the Market of Sector 21 here today in the presence of office bearers and members of the area Market welfare Association and Market committee of sector 21.

Renovated at a cost of ₹18.30 lakh in the market, the toilet block has facilities for children and transgender also besides provision of sanitary pads and sanitary incinerator in the ladies toilet blocks for scientific disposal of sanitary pads.

Speaking on the occasion, the Mayor said all toilet blocks in markets and parks were Geotagged and could be located through Google Maps. He said that QR codes have been provided at each block and can be scanned to report any problem, such as sewerage blockage, water leakage and missing taps.

The Mayor said under the Swachh Bharat Mission and following the parameters of Water Plus, all the old toilet blocks are being revamped by adding more facilities and modern plumbing accessories.

*Mayor reviews progress of laying of storm water drainage system from sector 40 to N-Choe *

Chandigarh, September 1:- City Mayor Sh. Anup Gupta on Friday visited sector 40-D, Chandigarh to review the progress of laying of storm water drainage pipeline along vikas marg from sector 40-D to N-Choe near Beant Singh Memorial, sector 42, Chandigarh.

Accompanied by Chief Engineer, MCC, area councilor Mrs. Gurbax Rawat and other concerned officers of MCC, the Mayor took round of the site and reviewed the progress of project.

While speaking on the project, the Mayor said that during monsoon season, storm water gets accumulated in huge quantities near forest area of sector 40-C and at Aayushman Bharat Dispensary in Badheri complex and sector 41-A, Chandigarh due to low lying area of these sectors. During heavy rains, the existing 72” CBD along Vikas Marg from Sector 40-D; sector 41-D to N-choe near Beant Singh Memorial, sector 42, Chandigarh gets fully pressurized due to huge storm water coming from sector 39,40,41 and sector 42.

He said that the storm water gets accumulated on road and near forest area and the existing storm water drainage system is not capable to drain out the huge quantity of rain water during high intensity rainfall in monsoon period. The area converts into pond during rains and is not serviceable. The residents and general public of this area suffer water logging issue during the rains. He said that the storm water also gets flooded in front of house gates at many places near forest area of sector 40 C and at sector 41-A, Chandigarh.

The Mayor said that after conducting detailed survey by the engineering wing necessary proposal to lay storm water drainage system line along with construction of new machine hole chambers was approved by the General House at estimated cost of Rs. 4.17 crores.

He asked the chief engineer and superintending engineer, public health to expedite the work at the earliest so that the same project may be completed before next monsoon.

Dr. Kewal Krishan, Professor and former Chair of the Department of Anthropology, has been appointed as one of the Editors of a prestigious and reputed journal “The Science of Nature”. This is a Springer’s flagship multidisciplinary science journal founded in 1913. In the scientific literature, this is considered as a highly rated international journal with an impact factor of 2.300. Professor Krishan has been appointed on the basis of his commendable work on the interface of natural sciences, human morphology and forensic identification.

Prof. Krishan has been conducting novel research and regularly contributing articles on forensic aspects of human body morphology such as human face, fingerprints, footprints, teeth, ear-prints, gait analysis, skeleton and various body parts. On the basis of this work, he has already been appointed on the editors and editorial panel of highly rated forensic and medical journals such as Forensic Science InternationalMedicine Science and the lawThe Journal of Infection in Developing CountriesFrontiers in Public HealthArchives of Public Health, Egyptian Journal of Forensic Sciences, and Acta Biomedica.

Prof. Krishan is a renowned forensic anthropologist and one of the most cited researchers in the field of Anthropology and forensic science worldwide. He has published more than 319 articles, most of which are in international journals of repute. He has more than 56,000 citations of the research work to his credit. He has also been included among the Top 2% scientists of the world by STANFORD-ELSEVIER analysis for the years 2020, 2021 and 2022 and is positioned at 17th rank in the ‘Legal and Forensic Medicine Category’ worldwide.

*Chandigarh, August 26:-* Spearheading initiatives that combine environmental consciousness with patriotic fervor, the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh started ‘Amrit Vatika’ under Meri Maati Mera Desh campaign at nursery, sector 23, here today.

          City Mayor Sh. Anup Gupta, Municipal Commissioner Ms. Anindita Mitra planted saplings of various fruit plants during the occasion after ‘Vasuda Vandan’ ceremony in the presence of Sh. Damanpreet Singh, area councilor, other prominent persons of the local area and officers of MCC.

          Speaking on the occasion after plantation drive, the Mayor said that the “Meri Maati Mera Desh” campaign stands as a powerful embodiment of collective action and a beacon of hope for a greener, more vibrant future. He said that we are planting saplings and nurturing them to become trees and it’s not a one day activity. He said that citizens should come forward to not only plant saplings but adopt them for further take care also.

          While explaining about the plantation drive, Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS, Commissioner, MCC said that successful tree planting does not happen by chance but it requires thought, planning and attention to detail. She said that the most important factor is the place selected for plantation event. All other factors are linked to it. She said that people can always grow small trees and shrubs in and around the housing societies so that trees can be safely nurtured to maturity. They will keep surroundings cool, give oxygen, provide shelter to urban birds and give organic manure too.

Chandigarh, August 25: – Greater economic inclusion of the people in rural and urban areas will accelerate the country’s economy, said  Minister of State for Finance Dr. Bhagwat Karad. He was speaking at a review meeting of Prime Minister Street Vendor’s AtmaNirbhar Nidhi (PM SVANidhi) Scheme, held in Chandigarh today.

The Minister conducted a detailed review of PMSVANidhi scheme during North Zonal Convention including states Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh and Chandigarh. The Municipal Corporation Chandigarh hosted the convention, held at Hotel Mountview, here today.

MoS Finance has advised Banks and Govt. Authorities to achieve saturation of social security schemes and also advised to focus and speed up the process of sanctioning of loans under PMSVANidhi. The Minister further advised to organise camps at village levels to provide various Banking services.

While addressing the media persons, he said that region-wise meetings are being held to give the benefit of the central scheme to the hawkers in the municipal area and to increase awareness about it. Vendors who have a bank account, Aadhaar number and are registered with the Municipal Corporations can get the benefit of the scheme. Initially, 10,000 rupees loan is given and those making timely payment can get additional loan for 20 thousand and then 50 thousand rupees. The Minister appealed that the target decided in the meeting should be achieved within a month and that the benefits of the Pradhan Mantri SVANidhi Yojana should be given to the poor.

He said that PM SVANidhi is a central-sector micro-credit scheme launched on 1st June 2020 by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) to provide handholding support to street vendors. The scheme facilitates a working capital collateral-free loan of ₹10,000, with subsequent loans of ₹20,000 and ₹50,000 with a 7% interest subsidy. The scheme focuses on increasing the digital footprint in India by promoting the use of digital transactions among street vendors. To incentivize the adoption of digital transactions, a cashback of up to ₹100 per month is given to Street Vendors. The scheme aims to formalize the street vendors and open up new opportunities for this sector to move up the economic ladder, added the Minister.

The Minister said that efforts for the economic upliftment of the poor are being made at three levels. These are firstly, efforts to open accounts for those who do not have bank accounts; secondly to provide the benefits of the insurance scheme to the general public and thirdly, to make finance available to those who are deprived of financial assistance.

The convention witnessed lively discussions and insightful presentations by representatives from states including Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, and Ladakh. These presentations showcased the progress made and targets achieved under the PM SVANidhi Scheme, highlighting the positive impact on the lives of street vendors. The collective commitment and collaborative spirit demonstrated during the convention underscored the shared vision of creating an inclusive and prosperous environment for street vendors to thrive.

The MoS appreciated the efforts of the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh (MCC) which has set an ambitious goal to complete the remaining target within the next month, demonstrating their unwavering commitment to the welfare of street vendors. This outstanding achievement reflects the effectiveness of the scheme in Chandigarh and serves as an inspiration for other regions to emulate.

In her welcome address, the MC Commissioner Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS emphasized the transformative impact of the PM SVANidhi Scheme on the lives of street vendors. She highlighted the comprehensive support provided by the scheme, including access to affordable working capital loans, skills training, and institutional mechanisms for their holistic development. Commissioner Mitra applauded the collaborative efforts of all stakeholders, including the government, financial institutions, and vendors themselves, in creating an ecosystem that fosters entrepreneurship and stability. She reiterated the commitment of the Municipal Corporation of Chandigarh to continue working towards the complete fulfillment of the scheme’s targets, ensuring the welfare and prosperity of street vendors in the city.

Other dignitaries were present during the review meeting including Joint Secretary, MoHUA, Shri Rahul Kapoor, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Finance Shri Prashant Goyal, City Mayor Shri Anup Gupta, Secretary Local Government Sh. Nitin Kumar Yadav, Municipal Commissioner Ms. Anindita Mitra, and representatives from various states, union territories, and banks.
