*Chandigarh December 5:-* Aiming to educate young individuals on the importance of managing used plastic efficiently, the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh has organized an informative workshop and exhibition “Bottles for Change” in collaboration with Bisleri International.

Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS, Commissioner, MC, Chandigarh inaugurated the workshop in the presence of Sh. Ram Chandra Yadav, area councillor, Mr. K. Ganesh, Senior General Manager of Bisleri, Mrs. Varinder Kaur, Principal, teachers and school children.

While speaking on the occasion, the Commissioner said that the MCC has taken a significant step towards promoting sustainability and waste management with the launch of the “Bottles for Change” program. She said that the programme, which includes an informative workshop and exhibition, aims to educate individuals on the importance of managing used plastic efficiently.

She commended the government school students of GMHS RC-1, GMHS RC-2, and Primary School, Dhanas, as well as the participating NGOs, for their highly informative exhibition on waste management, water purification, and recycling. Taking a personal interest, the Commissioner visited each stall at the exhibition, which showcased sustainability projects constructed using waste materials. She interacted with the children, lauded their efforts, and provided valuable guidance for further improvement.

The exhibited educational models served as excellent examples of the reduce, reuse, and recycle (RRR) concept. The students demonstrated their creativity by utilizing discarded materials such as waste paper, used plastic bottles, cardboard, clothes, wool, old newspapers, toys, coconut shells, ice cream sticks, and various others. Notably, the exhibition also featured a range of items manufactured from plastic waste, including planters, tiles, T-shirts, tiffin box covers, coasters, and more.

The dedicated Bottles for Change Stall by the students highlighted numerous exhibits:

1. Creative utilization of used PET bottles for the creation of fabrics, shirts, T-shirts, soft toy stuffing, pillows, and more.

2. HDPE recycling into granules for the production of pens, cups, organizers, and stationery items.

3. LDPE transformation into granules to create pots, buckets, boards, toys, and various other products.

4. Sterile and sorted medical waste repurposed into pellets, bricks, and other useful materials.

5. MLP (Multi-Layer Plastic) processed into sheets for the construction of school furniture, dustbins, boards, stands, and more.

6. Mixed low-value plastic to be processed for agricultural pipes.

The Commissioner inspired the school students to initiate positive change within society by emphasizing the significance of source segregation and proper disposal of all types of used plastic into designated bins. She shared her personal experience of using cloth bags instead of plastic bags and encouraged young minds to follow suit.

In further support of the cause, the Commissioner inaugurated the installation of used plastic collection bins in all three schools – GMHS RC-1, GMHS RC-2, and Primary School, Dhanas. These bins will facilitate the collection of used plastics to be sent for recycling. She called upon the area councillor and Principal of Dhanas School to collaborate with Bisleri in their joint efforts to eliminate plastic littering in Dhanas and ensure that all used plastic is properly recycled.

The Citizen summit and Noble Citizen Awards were held at Hansraj College, University of Delhi recently. This impactful event witnessed the convergence of over hundreds enthusiastic Delhi University students, 50 NGOs, and social sector leaders, along with the presence of 7 CSR Heads from renowned companies.

The Citizen Summit, organized to recognize and celebrate outstanding contributions to various societal causes, featured 13 categories, ranging from education and CSR to sports, innovation for social impact, and more. Among the standout moments was the selection of “Ms. Jashanjot Kaur Brar” in the “Volunteerism category”. After rigorous evaluation by a distinguished jury, Brar emerged as the sole recipient of this esteemed recognition, outshining nominees from five countries. The number of applicants were in hundreds.

Pursuing a Doctorate of Philosophy at Panjab University, Brar focuses on Community Participation in Water and Sanitation Management in District Patiala, Punjab State in the Supervisionof Dr Gaurav Gaur, Chairperson, Centre for Social Work. She has been engaged in academic discourse, she has presented over fifteen research papers at International and national conferences, covering essential topics such as climate change, water governance, and community health. With three publications under her belt, she demonstrates a profound understanding of critical issues and a commitment to sharing knowledge for societal betterment shared Gaurav Gaur.

In her previous role as a Community Development Specialist at the Department of Water Supply and Sanitation Punjab, Brar played a pivotal role in implementing crucial missions like Jal Jeevan and Swachh Bharat across 350 villages. Her expertise extends to roles as a Rural Development & Management Specialist and Resource Person, showcasing her ability to coordinate and execute initiatives effectively said Gaurav Gaur.

Brar, a UGC NET cleared individual and a certified master trainer at the National Institute of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj in Hyderabad, has also made impactful contributions as a resource person at the State Institute of Rural Development and Panchayats, Govt. of Punjab.

IGNOU Term End Examinations December, 2023 are going to commence from 01^st December, 2023 and will conclude on 09^th January, 2024 in the region.

The students may download the Hall Tickets from the University website http://www.ignou.ac.in/ and appear in the examination.

Dr. Bhanu Pratap Singh, Senior Regional Director, IGNOU Regional Center, Chandigarh informed that students are advised to be in possession of the valid Identity Card issued by the University at the time of admission during the examination. Under Regional Centre Chandigarh 10367 eligible students have been issued Hall Tickets for this examination who will be appearing in different programmes/courses.  IGNOU RC Chandigarh Academics will be monitoring examination activities and monitoring team has also been deputed by IGNOU headquarter, New Delhi for the smooth conduct of Term End Examination in the region. IGNOU Regional Center Chandigarh has established 09 Examination Centers for TEE December, 2023 including 02 Exam Center in Jails at Chandigarh and Ambala for jail inmates.

The Examination Centres have been instructed to allow students, with a valid Identity Card, to appear in examination, even if they do not possess the Hall Ticket (Examination Intimation Slips), but their names exist in the list of examinees for that centre.

Students are advised to be in possession of the valid Identity Card issued by the University during the Examination. Mobile phones and any other electronic gadgets are not permitted inside the examination hall.

136th Birth Anniversary Celebration of Yug Purusottam Sri Sri Thakur Ankulchandra ji and 10th Annual Function of Satsang Vihar Chandigarh was celebrated on two consecutive days at Satsang Vihar, Zirakpur on Chandigarh Ambala National Highway opposite to Saphire Hotel with the Holy blessings of Pradhan Acharyadev of Satsang Deoghar Ashram, Jharkhand. The event started with a special evening Satsang on 25th November, Saturday where Dr Sambit Patra,  Chairman ITDC and  national spokesperson of BJP, an ardent  devotee of Sri Sri Thakur ji  shared his 30years of life experiences after accepting the Satnam of Sri Sri Thakur and enthralled the audience with his chorus of Jay Radhe Kirtan with the devotees. Mr Chittaranjan Kansa, a senior social worker and a devote also discussed about the need of ideal centric life.  On 26th November, Sunday ,it was a day long programme with Nagar Kirtan, Morning prayer, Bhajananjali by eminent artists like Prof Murlidhar Soni,  Mrs Santa Dey from Amritsar,  Mr Srijib Karmakar from NIT Jalandhar,  Mr S.K. Mohapatra,  Mr Anil Malik.The Satsang discussions were held by Dr Sananda Bag, Urologist and Kidney Transplant Surgeon, Dr Kumar Madhup , Senior eye specialist from Satsang Hospital, Deoghar Ashram, Mr N. P. Sinha, SPR, Patna.The meeting was conducted by Prof Satyaswarup Tripathy, Plastic Surgeon , PGIMER, Chandigarh and Mr Himanshu Bhushan Biswal, SPR. It was also attended by eminent persons like Mr Kabiraj Nayak, SPR, Kullu, Mr Jagdish Katoch, SPR, Hamirpur, Mr Santosh Badtya, from Bhatinda, Mr Upendra Podar, SPR, Chandigarh.A free multi speciality medical consultation camp was organized on this occasion where more than 300 patients were treated by senior specialists.Cultural event was marked by folk dances by Tanu Malik, Manu Mohapatra, Classical dance by Varandeep Kaur. Yoga and meditation were demonstrated by Mr Navin n Sethi from Bihar School of Yoga, Munger.The day was concluded with evening prayer. The spiritual and cultural extravaganza left an impressive positive vibes in the minds of all devotes gathered on the occasion. Panjab University’s Sanskrit department held a lecture titled ‘Dayanandasarasvatikrita Ishopanishadbhashya mein adarsh dharmik jeevan’. The speaker at the lecture was Dr. Satyan Sharma, who is also a faculty member at the department. The lecture was held under the celebrations of the 200th birth anniversary of Swami Dayanand Saraswati. The lecture was attended by teachers, research scholars and students of the department and Dayanand Chair for Vedic Studies.

Dr. Satyan began by presenting the scriptural definition of Sanatan Dharm and said, “Dharm is that which bestows happiness in this world and also leads us to mukti or liberation.” He said that it is in this sense that in Sanatan Dharm, equal importance is given to both material as well as spiritual uplift. “Swami Dayanand, in his commentary on the Ishopanishad, has stated that it is only when one correctly uses the material world and performs worship of the all-pervading God, that one attains the highest goal of human life”, he added. Dr. Sharma said that within the material uplift are included science and technology, and that they should be used in an informed manner. He further said, “it is only when we start to worship technology and its tools, as we can see many of us doing it knowingly or unknowingly, that problems ensue.” He said that Swami Dayanand Saraswati didn’t see both the material and spiritual acts as opposing each other, but as complementary.

Academic incharge of the department Prof. V. K. Alankar congratulated Dr. Sharma on his lecture and said that Swami Dayanand professed a practical life instead of a merely spiritual one. Prof. Alankar said, “Sanatan Dharm is Sanatan or eternal because it responds well to change, which is also eternal.”

Faculty member of the department, Dr. Vijay Bharadwaj gave a vote of thanks and urged the audience to read Swami Dayanand’s book Satyarth Prakash.
