The students were very happy to interact with the elderly and received blessings in return from them. Students of Centre for Social Work, Panjab University, Chandigarh celebrated Diwali with theme of “Green Deewali” with the Children of Aruna Asif Ali Trust Sector- 44 Chandigarh. The students organized Rangoli making competition and Chart Making competition on green Diwali. Children from Aruna Asif Ali Trust participated in said competitions. Students of Social Work Panjab University also aware those children about Green Diwali Concept and told them not to use crackers on Diwali. Students made them aware about the harmful effects of crackers on human health as well as on environment.
Social Work Students also spread massage among the children that instead of spending huge amount of money on crackers they can buy fruits, new clothes, books and other useful items of daily routine. In the end Bananas, Juice and Chocolates shared with Children of Aruna Asif Ali Trust by spreading a message that “Say No to Crackers and Go for Green Diwali”

The Department of Sanskrit, Panjab University Chandigarh organized “Deepostava” a celebration of Diwali festival as well as remembrance of “Martydom of Swami Dayanand Sarawati”. Prof V.K Alankar, Chairperson, Deptt of Sanskrit presided over the event. Competition of art & craft, rangoli making, folk songs and folk dance were also held. Being the martyrdom day of Swami Daynand Saraswati he was remembered with great zeal. It was urged to the students and the research Scholars to follow his footsteps of combining the Ancient Vedic Knowledge and reform. Dr. Vikram Kumar, Dr. Surendera Acharya and Dr. Sushma Alankar were also invited to give lectures on Indian Festivals and their significance, and Philosophy of Dayamnand Saraswati. Hemant Kaushik and Anshul Chaudhary of M.A. 1st Year also gave a short speech about Diwali and its cultural continuity. To create public awareness about the ill-effects of noise and smoke caused by firecrackers, NSS, Panjab University, held an awareness drive on ‘Say no to Crackers’ at Panjab University. The NSS volunteers stood at the entry gates of Panjab University as well as at student Centre to spread the word forward by various thought provoking slogans, holding placard and posters. The idea of the campaign was to celebrate Diwali ‘the festivals of light’ without harming the environment by giving up on crackers, lightening up with diyas rather than decorative lights and using natural colors for Rangoli.

Prof. PP Singh, founder of Journalism Education in India at Panjab University, Lahore in 1941 has been Posthumously Awarded by Joshi Foundation during the Media award Punjab 2018 for the category ‘outstanding contribution in Journalism Education’. The award was received by Prof. Archana R. Singh, School of Communication Studies, Panjab University, Chandigarh which includes a trophy, a certificate and Rs. 21000/- cash.
The Department proposes to utilize the award money for the ‘PP Singh Memorial Lecture Series’ which was initiated by the department last year.

Manoj Kumar Parida, IAS , Adviser to the Administrator, UT, Chandigarh today laid the foundation stone of Animal Birth Control Centre at village Raipur Kalan, here in presence of Sh. Rajesh Kumar, Mayor, Sh. Arun Kumar Gupta, IAS, Principal Secretary Home, Sh. K.K. Yadav, IAS, Commissioner, Sh. Hardeep Singh, Senior Deputy Mayor, Sh. S.K. Jain, Additional Commissioner, Councilors & officers of MCC and prominent persons of the area.
While addressing the gathering, the Adviser said that animals can not speak for themselves, we are their voice and providing care centre for them is best service in the universe. He said that with the MCC is doing good not only for the citizens of Chandigarh but also looking after the care services for the animals too. He appreciated the work of MCC for provision of cattle pond in 15 acre land and building the dog care shelter in the 1.4 acre land. He assured the MCC for providing sufficient funds for completing and running of the project.
On the occasion, the Mayor said that the animal birth control centre will be established in 1.40 acre land out of 15 acres land of MCC at Raipur Kalan. Rest of the land used to provide cattle pond. He said that animal birth control centre will be comprised of 5 dog kennels to accommodate 300 dogs.
Earlier, the Commissioner welcomed the Chief Guest and other dignitaries at the function. He said that Hospital, Laboratory, kitchen, parking area and dormitory to accommodate 10-12 workers will be provided in the centre. He said that the centre would be constructed within one year time period and will be made fully functional.

Chandigarh, October 23:- Sh. K.K. Yadav, IAS, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh, who is also Chief Executive Officer, Chandigarh Smart City Limited, Chandigarh took a meeting of all the stake holders which includes MCC, Estate Office, U.T., Chandigarh, Chief Architect, U.T., Chandigarh, Chief Engineer, M.C., Chief Engineer-cum-Special Secretary, U.T., Chandigarh, Chief Engineer, Chandigarh Housing Board, Chandigarh, besides other officers of the Chandigarh Administration for implementation of E-governance project in the city.
It is pertinent to mention here that the agreement has been signed with M/s PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) on 16.10.2019 by Chandigarh Smart City Limited for implementation of E-governance services. The project has been formed to minimize manual intervention, ensure transparency, 24×7 excess to online citizen services and public grievances by eliminating the need of visiting the Govt. offices. The project aims at online delivery of the services for the citizens. There will be total of 27 E-Governance services out of which major E-governance services includes Online Building Plan Approvals, Booking of Community / Banquet Hall, Online Grievance Management, E-Horticulture Services, Online Permissions & NOC, Online Water and Sewerage connections, Integration with Property tax and Integration with Birth and Death registration etc. etc. Citizens will be able to access these services through Chandigarh Smart City Limited Web-portal and Mobile Applications. Citizens can track the status of their applications anytime, anywhere.
The Commissioner advised that single point of contact persons should be pointed by each department for enabling the data to the agency on priority and the same will be approved by the Head of Department concerned. He further directed that a Steering Committee comprising of Additional Commissioners, Chief Architect, Officers from NIC and SPIC and Deputy Commissioner, Chandigarh should be formed to monitor the progress as well as for approval of formulated plan by the agency M/s PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC). Regular meetings will be conducted in the office of Chandigarh Smart City Limited and Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh to overview the project. The completion time of the project is one year. Next meeting has been scheduled for November 1st, 2019.

Dr. Kalpana Thakur, the event Co-ordinator highlights the significance of Diwali. The events diya and candle decoration, Puja thali decoration, Rangoli making, Mehndi were organized. These events were followed by cultural program where students gave performances from different regions like Bengal, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Haryana. The main attraction of the event was Pre-Diwali fest: AAKRITI where students displayed different shopping stalls exhibiting their creativity and entrepreneurship enhancing life skills. Chandigarh, October 22:- The Municipal Corporation Chandigarh has decided to conduct competition among the Market Associations of city regarding Diwali decorations lights.
While sharing this information here today, Sh. Rajesh Kumar, Mayor of Chandigarh intimated that the MCC will constitute a committee of officers to conduct competition among city Market associations during Diwali lights.
He said that the winner Markets associations will be honoured by the MCC besides allotting works of their choice having Rs. 10 lacs works for 1st position, Rs. 7 lacs works for 2nd position and Rs. 5 lacs works for 3rd position from MCC funds.

Chandigarh, October 22:- The Fire Department of Municipal Corporation Chandigarh has finalized its mobilization plan of fire and emergency services keeping in view the Diwali festival and deputed its all officials on duty under 7 zones from 25th October to 28th October, 2019.
All kind of leave/weekly rest of fire–fighting staff has been restricted for 4 days from 25th to 28th October, 2019 to ensure that maximum manpower should be readily available to meet any contingency across the city.
This plan was finalized in a meeting of fire and emergency services committee held here today under the chairmanship of Sh. Ravi Kant Sharma and attended by other members of committee namely Sh. Arun Sood, Smt. Raj Bala Malik, Sh. Mahesh Inder Singh Sidhu, Maj. Gen. M.S. Kandal, Haji Mohd. Khurshid Ali, councilors, Sh. Anil Kumar Garg, Additional Commissioner-cum-Chief Fire Officer and other concerned officers of Fire Department.
During the meeting, the committee decided to divide the city under 7 zones for effective and efficient area coverage by fire-fighting vehicle and fire patrol parties. The members decided that the mobilization plan of fire and emergency services will be uploaded on the official website of MCC.
The committee decided to create awareness through highlighting the Do’s and Don’ts and fire safety precautions for using fireworks/crackers and holding cracker shops.
The committee also appreciates the online payment gateway for issuance of Fire Safety Certificate and asked the concerned officials to create awareness about the scheme among masses for larger benefit of general public.
The committee also decided that 9 fire service vehicles along with trained manpower will remain standby from 25th to 28th October 2019 for protection of various cracker shops locations designated by district magistrate, UT, Chandigarh.
Further 3 fire service vehicles alongwith trained manpower will be deployed for standby duty for protection of markets of heavy crowd footfall i.e. Patel Market, Sector 15, Sadar/Palika Bazar, Sector 19 and Shastri Market, Sector 22, Chandigarh.
In addition to that 8 motorcycles mounted with CAF based fire extinguishers along with trained manpower will perform patrolling duty across the city from fire prevention and protection point of view. 7 fire service vehicles alongwith trained staff will remain deployed at their respective fire stations to meet with any contingency in the nearby vicinity of concerned area jurisdiction.
The committee also decided that regular checking of all whole/retail sale points of fire crackers will be carried out by the fire department to ensure adequate number of sand bags, adequate water and sufficient number of fire-extinguishers would be readily available at cracker shops/sites and appropriate action would be taken against defaulters/offenders.
The committee plans to create a whatsapp group for close coordination between staff deployed and officers and for update/photographs and videos of duty during the period of deployment.
