TEQIP-III Sponsored one-week Online Faculty Development Program jointly organized by Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, UIET, Panjab University, Chandigarh and Govt College of Engineering and Technology, Jammu on “Emerging Trends in Electronics and Communication (ETEC-2020)” from 4th to 8th August 2020, concluded.
The programme was inaugurated by Prof Raj Kumar, Vice-Chancellor, Panjab University, Chandigarh.
Prof Savita Gupta, Director, UIET and Dr Sameru Sharma, Principal, GCET, Jammu always motivate their faculty members to organise such events under twinning activities under TEQIP-III. Prof. Savita Gupta informed that the aim of this FDP was to empower faculty with technical skills to enhance the content delivery and bring in transformations in the teaching learning process. Fourteen experts from IITs/ NITs/ other premier institutes across India have given very informative talks.
Last day of the course witnessed expert lectures from Prof Manav Bhatnagar from IIT Delhi on 5G wireless communications and future wireless communications, their challenges in implementations. Another expert talk was delivered by Dr Surender Singh Saini on role of research & development in commercialization of technologies. He gave examples of opportunities in commercialization of technologies during this pandemic of COVID-19. Last session was delivered by Prof. Ravibabu from IIT Ropar on image processing citing examples from medical field. Participants appreciated the speakers and congratulated organiser for successful completion of the event.
Dr. Naresh Kumar, course coordinator in his valedictory address stressed on the applicability and utility of learning gained from this one-week FDP and implementing the same in their routine is the need of the hour. He has also taken the feedback from participants.
Dr. Arvind Kumar, course coordinator in his vote of thanks during the valedictory ceremony said that the programme had an overwhelming response from the faculty. He extended his vote of thanks to the Prof Raj Kumar, Vice-Chancellor, Panjab University and Prof. Savita Gupta, Director, UIET, Panjab University for giving full assistance in organizing such programs. Joshi Library, Panjab University, Chandigarh, a two-day webinar programme on the topic “Innovative Library Services in 21st Century” was held on 6th and 7th August, 2020. The speakers of this webinar were Prof. Parthasarthi Mukhopadhyay, Kalyani University, West Bengal, Dr.Nabi Hasan, Librarian, IIT-Delhi, Dr.Mahendra N. Jadhav, Librarian, IIT-Madras, Dr.Sunita Barve, Head, NCL Library-Pune, Dr. Sandeep Pathak, Deputy Librarian, IISER-Bhopal and Dr.Bibhuti Bhusan Sahoo, Deputy Librarian, IIT-Bhubaneswar.
The learned speakers from reputed higher educational institutes of Pan India laid stressed on e-resources subscription policies, research visualization tools, institutional repositories, library website, integration of learning management tools, and the various innovative servicesthat academic libraries can provide to the user community. A very fruitful panel discussion was held between the panellists and staff of the library related to various issues of concern during Covid19 pandemic.
Dr. Jivesh Bansal, University Librarian, introduced the theme describing information & communication technologies as a revolutionary change in information landscape after the invention of printing technology in 15th century by Johannes Gutenberg.
The webinar was attended by approx. 150 participants which included many library professionals, research scholars and students from all over the country.

चंडीगढ़, 7 अगस्त- पंचकूला के सेक्टर-20 के संस्कृति मॉडल स्कूल को खोले जाने की कुछ टीवी चैनलों द्वारा चलाई जा रही खबर का खण्डन करते हुए सरकारी प्रवक्ता ने स्पष्ट किया है कि उक्त स्कूल पंचकूला में आयोजित स्वतंत्रता दिवस जैसे राष्ट्रीय समारोह में हमेशा ही राष्ट्रगान प्रस्तुत करता है। आगामी 15 अगस्त को भी राष्ट्रगान का कार्यक्रम स्कूल की ओर से प्रस्तुत किया जाना निर्धारित है इसलिए स्कूल के सात बच्चे सभी एहतियात के साथ अभ्यास के लिए बुलाए गए थे।
स्कूल के निकट सी.एस.सी. सेन्टर में परिवार पहचान पत्र बनाने का कार्य चल रहा है। इसलिए कुछ बच्चे स्वयं अपने अभिवावकों के साथ वहां आए हुए थे और इस बारे कुछ जानकारी प्राप्त करने के लिए स्कूल आए थे।
प्रवक्ता ने बताया कि सरकारी आदेशों की अवेहलना का ऐसा कोई मामला नहीं है।

The University Institute of Fashion Technology & Vocational Development (UIFT&VD), Panjab University, Chandigarh, organised a Webinar today aboutScope of menswear fashion/ From a job to a studio and everything in between ,in an interactive session by Mr. Sushant Abrol, Founder and Creative Head, Countrymade who addressed more than 60 faculty members ,research scholars and students of Fashion.
Mr Abrol,a graduate in Fashion Design and a post graduate from IIFT started his own brand- Countrymade in 2019 after working as a designer with 1469 Workshop, JANAVI Couture and Rohit Bal Designs Pvt Ltd, informed Prof Prabhdeep Brar, Chairperson.
The speaker talked about his journey from having an interest in the military green to opting for a career in the field of fashion, winning FDCI India Fashion Week, Young Guns Platform, Spring Summer 2020 along with winning First edition of The Showcase at the Blenders Pride Fashion Tour,2020. The speaker stated that though the Indian menswear market was small but it has a luxury segment that can be targeted with experimentation to create a niche. Also, the works of the designer need to be more spiritual than sartorial. The menswear designs should encompass experimental as well as multi-dimensional aesthetic. This would include a play of colours, fabrics, textures and surface ornamentation all the while keeping in mind that less is more and sticking to basics and then trying to evolve. The designs should be different to the platter and the language needs to have an ROI. Sustainability too has to be at the core of any concept. The speaker advised the young pool of talent pursuing fashion technology that Digital is the way forward and there is no substitute for sustenance, passion and hard work.

University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (UIPS) organized a webinar on “The Lazy Way of Forging a Super Industry-Academia Partnership!” under the Innovation, Entrepreneurship & Career (IEC) Series of MHRD Institution’s Innovation Council of the UIPS, by one of their well-placed alumnus, Mr Vineet Rastogi, Founder, Healium.io, Mumbai.
Mr Vineet Rastogi initiated his talk by drawing an inspiration from Panjab University motto ‘From Darkness to light’ & UIPS motto ‘Serve the Ailing’. He sensitized the participants to align themselves with a market orientation to serve the ailing and emphasized on the benefits of Industry Academia Partnership to stakeholders.
Mr Rastogi not only engaged the audience interactively by holding two polling sessions but also deciphered different factors for the successful Industry-Academia Partnership.
Professor Indu Pal Kaur, Chairperson UIPS & President IIC-UIPS, welcomed the audience and introduced the Speaker. Mr Rastogi has a professional experience of 30+ years in Pharma & Healthcare Sector. He is an avid community builder and built India’s first Online B2B Barter Exchange Community & Marketplace, Health City Project on the principles of Collaborative Consumption.
Around 200 participants joined the webinar that included students researchers, UIPS faculty and distinguished alumni.

The Department of Library and Information Science, Panjab University, Chandigarh started new series under the title “PU DLIS Webinar Series” and organised three webinars from 4th– 6thAugust,2020 so to reach out to LIS students, research scholars and the professional colleagues to enhance their professional knowledge and update them in the Library and Information Science field.
In the first webinar Dr. Akhtar Parvez ,University Librarian, Maulana Azad National Urdu University, Hyderabad talked about “Copyright and fair use”. He gave many tips to the participants for fair use of copyright material like purchasing e-books which are DRM free, Archival rights of databases and specially the knowledge of transformative use of copyrighted material.
In the second webinar, Prof.S.P.Singh ,Emeritus Professor of UGC deliberated on “Misinformation, Disinformation, Malinformation and Fake News” and highlighted that all of us in the current information society must be able to differentiate among these and use only the factual information.
In the third webinar, Mr. Prem Chand ,Librarian, Indian Institute of Advanced Studies, Shimla talked on “Access to e-content to higher education institutions in India: an initiative of MHRD and UGC” wherein he deliberated on the issues and challenges in India’s higher education in terms of enrolment, faculty, accreditation and research. He also highlighted various initiatives undertaken by MHRD and UGC to provide e-resources for teaching and research.

Venkaiah Naidu, Hon’ble Vice President of India and Chancellor of Panjab University while delivering Ist Sushma Swaraj Memorial Lecture organized online by Panjab University, Chandigarh, today on her death anniversary.
Hon’ble Vice President of India further added that Sushma Ji was my sister and a family to me. Still cannot believe that she is no more, he added. She was one of the most popular Indian Ministers in recent times. She was a wonderful human being, always considerate and prompt in responding to any issue. He further added that Sushma Ji made a mark as a dynamic leader and added many firsts to her career which only potrays that she was very popular with people. She was a multi-lingual brilliant orator with apt use of words.He added that Sushmi ji was efficient,sweet,sober and at the same time firm on her commitments towards country .
While appreciating the efforts of PU in organizing the Ist Memorial Lecture, he stressed that he is proud to be the Chancellor of the University which has produced a Parliamentarian and Leader like Sushma ji. He added that memorial lectures or commemoration events are meant to not only pay tributes but also inspire the younger generation to emulate the qualities of great men and women.

Chandigarh, August 6:- Smt. Raj Bala Malik, Mayor, Chandigarh and Sh. K.K. Yadav, IAS, Commissioner Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh inaugurated the application for uploading water meter reading on trust in presence of Sh. Mahesh Inder Singh Siddhu, area councillor of Ward No. 1, Chandigarh. Sh. S.S. Sidhu, Secretary RWA Sector- 9, Ms. Puneet, Joint Secretary, RWA Sector 9, Sh. Shailender Singh, Chief Engineer, Sh. S.K. Gill, Executive Engineer and the representatives from SPIC were also present on the occasion.
While sharing information about the app, the Mayor said that for the ease of residents of Chandigarh, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh has created a facility wherein a consumer can upload his/her water meter reading on the e-sampark mobile App/e-sampark web portal. This facility has been developed by SPIC. Support for its success has also been extended by NIELTS, she added.
The Mayor said that android/IOS users can download/install the e-sampark App and thereafter, meter reading can be uploaded through the App/web portal alongwith its picture. The details of the water account number are also required to be added. Those residents, who have already downloaded the mobile App, will be required to update the same from App Store.
She said that this is a big step taken by Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh which will enable the consumer to submit their water readings and thereby reducing the complaints of excess /wrong billing.
The complete process for submitting the water readings is available on the website of Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh. The consumer should adhere to the instructions therein and water reading should be submitted only during the period in which it is due as detailed on the website.
