IGNOU extends Admission up to 16th August, 2020

Details of the IGNOU academic programmes for the July, 2020 session can be accessed from the link https://ignouadmission.samarth.edu.in/. The prospective learners can apply for Masters/Bachelor/Diploma/Certificate programmes of the University on the official website, informed The Regional Director of IGNOU Regional centre Chandigarh Dr. A.K.Dimri. Last date of submission of ‘online’ admission form for July session was earlier fixed for July 31.
For all those candidates, who have been planning to get admission in any of the IGNOU courses can apply for the same online. Firstly the candidate has to register themselves (if not registered) on the official website i.e https://ignouadmission.samarth.edu.in/. Whereas those who have already registered can simply login with the id- password and fill up the application form for the admission in the July session at Indira Gandhi National Open University for 2020. Also, before filling up the IGNOU admission form, candidates must go through the general instructions, eligibility criteria, fee details, duration, etc . on the official website. Applicants can also download the complete details of the programmes from the IGNOU website.
Mayor distributes appreciation certificates to SDEs

Raj Bala Malik, Mayor, Chandigarh today distributed appreciation letters to the SDEs of B&R circle, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh recognizing their dedication and commitment for supply of essential services to the people residing in various sectors in Chandigarh during lockdown period due to COVID-19.
She distributed certificates to Sh. Akhil Dhiman SDE Roads division No.3, Sh. Akhil Goyal, SDE R-10, Sh. Amitesh, SDE R-13, Sh. Hemant Kumar, SDE R-5, Sh. Vishal Sharma SDE R-4 and Sh. Gurjit Singh SDE R-1. Sh. Sanjay Arora, SE, B&R and Sh. Ravinder Sharma, Executive Engineer, Roads Division-3 were also present during the occasion.
TVC meeting held

K.K. Yadav, IAS, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh.
During the meeting various important issues were discussed in detail and accorded approval for the following:
· The committee considered the agenda item regarding waiving off Rs. 50 for street vendors in respect of filling up of loan applications through e-Sampark centres/bank mitra.
· The committee accepted the amendments in street vendors (protection of livelihood and regulation of street vending), Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh Bye-laws, 2018 as per the approval of Administrator, Chandigarh Administration and notified by the MCC.
· The committee decided that Joint Commissioner, MCC will review the work of engagement of society for promotion of information technology in Chandigarh.
· The TVC approved the constitution of a committee to review and scrutinize the applications of non-surveyed street vendors in UT villages under PM SVANidhi scheme.
· The committee members asked the concerned officers to check the representations regarding corrections in particulars of registered street vendors thoroughly.
· The members asked the concerned officers to prepare sector wise report in regard to non-ESP and ESP with the latest notification and guidelines issued in this regard.
· The members asked the concerned enforcement officials to act tough against the violators who found vending from the sites of registered vendors in their absence and challan them as per law.
· The committee members asked the enforcement staff to nail down the unauthorized vendors from the city markets and internal roads etc.
The Chairman in agreement of all the members of Town Vending Committee conveyed to SSP, Chandigarh that Police Department and Traffic Department to take appropriate action against unregistered vendors and not harass the vendors registered with Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh. Also added to make sure SHO, Manimajra SHO, Sector 39 shall not harass the registered street vendor.
Other members of TVC including Sh. V.N. Sharma, Sh. Sita Ram, Sh. Ram Pal, Smt. Kamlesh, Smt. Gita, representatives from office of traffic police, SSP, Chief Architect’s and other officials of MCC were present during the meeting.

For the timely start of the teaching session,2020-21, a new admission schedule has been formalized where admissions will be based on merit in 10+2 exam results.

· and have registered themselves at PU CET (UG) admission site (https://cetug.puchd.ac.in/) till 09/08/2020 by submitting their information
· and have deposited the fee online by 10/08/2020
· and have uploaded the photograph, signatures and rest of the information by 12/08/2020 as per the revised schedule,
will be eligible for filling the admission form which will be available on PUCET 2020 website from 14/08/2020 onwards and which has to be completed by 24/08/2020.

FDP – Exploring Science and Technology Interconnections

Tomar. The FDP is being jointly organized by the Department of Applied Sciences, University Institute of Engineering and Technology, Panjab University Chandigarh and Department of Chemistry, Government College of Engineering and Technology, Jammu and is sponsored by Technical Education Quality Improvement programme of Government of India (TEQIP-III) .
The objective of the FDP is to provide a common platform for discussion between scientists and engineers to draw a roadmap for strengthening the teaching and research of Applied Science in Engineering Institutes. 85 faculty members have registered for this faculty programme. Eminent speakers from different engineering, research institutes and university departments will deliver talks on the Significance of Applied Sciences, methodologies to make teaching of applied sciences interesting and useful, research and consultancy expectations from applied scientists etc..Two expert talks were delivered on the inaugural day. Prof. Sandeep Sahijpal, Department of Physics, Panjab University, Chandigarh delivered a talk about Solar system, its exploration and what humans can gain from it. He highlighted developments in remote sensing technology and progress of India in Space exploration. Prof. Rama Sastry, Department of Chemical Sciences, IISER, Mohali delivered talk on “ The relevance of catalysis in organic synthesis”. He explained the importance of organic synthesis and how the catalysis can impact the synthesis.
BioNEST- Panjab University becomes Associate BIG Partner to DBT-BIRAC

The incubator as a partner for Biotechnology Ignition Grant (BIG) will be able to help young innovators from the northern region (mainly) to apply, get evaluated, succeed and get incubated after receiving the grant of the BIG Award which amounts to money upto 50 lakhs per innovation.
BIRAC under its BIG scheme supports innovative ideas having a potential for commercialization. Till date, more than 500 ideas have been supported by the BIRAC under this particular initiative. Dr.Rohit Sharma, the Project Leader of BioNEST-PU said, “The incubator has successfully hosted multiple Biotechnology Ignition Grant (BIG) Awardees in the past, providing them a landing space to build their technologies with the generous funding support received from BIRAC. In addition to that, we will now be able to not only host the BIG Awardees but also help them start from the scratch- to apply, get evaluated (at multiple levels) and succeed. Mentorship support is provided at all these stages along with the incubation support.”
Dr. Sharma also highlighted that the types of ideas to be supported by the BIG must primarily be from the following broad categories- healthcare, life sciences, diagnostics, medical devices, drugs, vaccines, drug formulations and delivery systems, while innovators with ideas for industrial biotechnology, agriculture and secondary agriculture, waste management, sanitation, clean energy and related areas can also apply for the same. The BIG Scheme and BioNEST’s support will prove to be ‘one of its kinds’ support system for the innovators/ start-ups to eventually be made stand-alone entities with complete R&D of their product in a tenure of 18 months.He also informed and added, “The 17th call for proposals under the BIG Scheme is open till 15th September 2020 and hope more innovators/start-ups working under the life-sciences umbrella will be able to apply reap the benefits with the collaborative efforts of BioNEST-PU.”
The BioNEST-PU was established in the year 2016 with generous funding support received from BIRAC and Panjab University, Chandigarh as a key step in empowering and nurturing young biotech entrepreneurs in the northern region of the country, Since its inception, the BioNEST-PU till date has been successful in hosting over 21 innovators on-board as resident start-ups and/or innovators. After having received multiple awards and achievements to its credit, the BioNEST-PU has added yet another feather to its cap.
PU Plans to Plant 40,000 saplings this Season

The saplings were planted by the DSW(W) Prof Sukhbir Kaur, Chairperson Dept of Geography Prof Simrit Kahlon, Chairperson IETVE, Dr Kanwalpreet Kaur, Wardens Dr Kamla and Dr Anju Goyal and the staff of the Hostels. Speaking on the occasion the DSW(W) said that the season of rains in Panjab University was this year being celebrated as a time to make the campus more green. The University planned to plant a total of 40,000 saplings during this season.
She appreciated the efforts being made by the Dept of Horticulture in this regard.
“Styling is 99% research and 1% creativity”

Chairperson of UIFT&VD, Dr. Prabhdip Brar, gave an introductory note, welcoming the speaker, Mr. Rahul Vijay, a fashion design graduate who started his career at Harper’s Bazaar India. He rose from a fashion intern to a fashion editor and moved to Mumbai. He joined ELLE India and later GQ India and is responsible for styling covers and fashion editorials, with an 8 years’ experience in women’s wear styling. He is one of the creative directors for Lakme Fashion Week and has styled for leading designers such as Rajesh Pratap Singh, AM:PM, Ashish Soni and Kunal Rawal among others.
The speaker narrated his journey starting from writing articles for his college magazine in 2007 to reaching Harper’s Bazaar in 2011. It stated that the role of a stylist is to give trends to designers, help them edit a collection and to create a language to sell his/her product. Apart from garments the other necessities for styling include footwear, wearer trials and photography. For a magazine, any cover star is selected on the basis of an upcoming movie release, on newsworthy content associated with them or according to the mood board. The takeaway of the session was that “Styling is 99% research and 1% creativity.” The talk converged at a statement that “To succeed as a stylist, one needs the right team and the right attitude.” This session would definitely strike the right chord in the students of fashion technology who wish to pursue styling as a career.
It was attended by more than 90 participants including faculty members, research scholars and students of Fashion Technology.
Mayor & Commissioner starts tree plantation on V3 road

Yadav, IAS, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh started green activity programme under National Clean Air Programme on V-3 road dividing, sector 7 and 26 towards Sector 7 side, here today in presence of Sh. Mahesh Inder Singh Sidhu, area councilor, Sh. K.P. Singh, SE, Horticulture wing, MCC and other concerned officers.
During the drive total 100 saplings were planted including Hibiscus, Flowering and shrubs.
