PU offers Grant of 5% Fee Waiver to Students

Chandigarh September 4, 2020

Panjab University Chandigarh, Vice Chancellor Prof Raj Kumar, in anticipation of approval of the Syndicate, has approved the 5% fee exemption across all courses to all the students of Panjab University Chandigarh and its Regional Centres for the current Semester, keeping in view the difficulties faced due to Covid 19 pandemic.

For Detailed News-

In order to facilitate the payment of fee , all students are allowed to deposit the course fee in 4 equal installments instead of two installments. The students who have paid full fee, will be adjusted in their next installment.

Also, 100% fee concession has been granted to physically challenged students whereas,  EWS concession will be extended to the students of traditional courses also as a special measure.

The concessions offered are over and above the different kinds of concession/ scholarships/schemes(involving an amount of Rs 5 Crore) which is already being offered by the University.

Prof. Karamjeet Singh appointed as Ist Vice Chancellor of the Punjab State Open University

Prof. .Karamjeet Singh, Registrar, Panjab University, Chandigarh has been appointed today as the Ist Vice Chancellor of the Jagat Guru Nanak Dev Punjab State Open University for a period of 3 years by the Governor of Punjab.

He has 2 years of experience as Registrar and 36 years of experience in Teaching and Research. On his new assignment, he said that it is a challenging job and it would be his endeavour to live upto the expectations of all. He solicited support from all for the betterment of the University.

 Prof. Singh is a Professor in Finance & Strategic Management, University Business School, Panjab University, Chandigarh. He is former President of Indian Accounting Association. He has been a PU Fellow for 8years from 2008-2016 and a Syndicate member for three terms. He  has been a member in number of  committees of UGC and NAAC. Prof. Singh has to his credit number of awards and honours.

PU CPC organises Distribution of Scholarships by Sarbat Da Bhala Charitable Trust

Chandigarh September 2, 2020

Central Placement Cell(CPC), Panjab University, Chandigarh organised a function to distribute scholarships of Rs. 299,300/- to 34 students by the “Sarbat Da Bhala charitable trust.

Sarbat da Bhala is a charitable trust was started by Sh. S.P. Singh Oberoi. This philanthropic body is dedicated to the cause of extending economic benefits to the underprivileged and hitherto neglected sections of the society and these scholarships are being distributed every year since 2016. Dr. Amandeep Singh Marwaha enlightened about the various activities of the trust and about the event to the beneficiary students and participants.

Prof Meena Sharma, Director Central Placement Cell, welcomed all the members and briefly enlightened the students about the help provided by the trust in past and how helpful it has been to students looking at the current state of economyand thanked Dr S P Singh Oberoi for his philanthropic endeavours. Vice Chancellor, Prof Raj Kumar, expressed gratitude towards trust and highlighted the contribution of these philanthropists in the development of great education institutions like Nalanda and Takshila in the past too. He also told how these scholarships help collaterally in connecting various people involved in the process and asked Central Placement Cell to expand its scope and connect to more people.

Mayor gave away bicycle to the Cyclegiri winner

Chandigarh, September, 2:- Smt. Raj Bala Malik, Mayor and Sh. K.K. Yadav, IAS, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh today gave away bicycle to the winner of Cyclegiri campaign launched two weeks back.

The Mayor appreciated the initiative of My FM and especially the efforts put on by RJ Meenaxi for promoting cycling in the city. During the two week long campaign, Master Cheeku got a new bicycle from the Mayor and was very happy. He said that he use to go to his school on foot, which located at 4 Kms away from the house of his uncle and could not afford cycle. He thanked the Mayor, Commissioner and RJ Meenaxi for arranging bicycle to him.

IGNOU extends Admission up to 15th September, 2020

Chandigarh:

The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has extended the last date of submission of online Fresh & RR admission of all Masters, Bachelor, Diplomas & Certificates programmes up to  15th September  , 2020 for the July-2020 session. Details of the IGNOU academic programmes for the July, 2020 session can be accessed from the link https://ignouadmission.samarth.edu.in/. The prospective learners can apply for Masters/Bachelor/Diploma/Certificate programmes of the University on the official website, informed The Regional Director of IGNOU Regional centre Chandigarh Dr. A.K.Dimri. Last date of submission of ‘online’ admission form for July session was earlier fixed for August31.

PU DLIS organised Webinars on NEP 2020

Chandigarh August 31, 2020

The Department of Library and Information Science, Panjab University, Chandigarh organised two webinars on National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 on 29th and 31st August 2020. Dr D. V. Singh, former University librarian, University of Delhi, Delhi and Dr. Dinesh Gupta, Professor, DLIS, Central University of Haryana, Mahendragarh, were the resource persons.

Dr. D.V. Singh talked about the history, need and importance of NEP. He highlighted the significant features of NEP, like education in mother tongue; skill based education and vocationalization of education. He also emphasised the requirement of infrastructure for implementation of NEP.

Dr. Gupta highlighted the key principles of NEP 2020. He also elaborated the technology application in education for implementation of NEP. He advocated the use of Open Education Resources (OERs) for teaching and learning. In the end of his talk,he discussed some challenges in implementation of NEP 2020.

Dr. Preeti Mahajan, Chairperson of the department moderated both the webinars which were attended by more than 100 participants.

PUAA organizes webinar on Partition

Chandigarh August 31, 2020

Under the stewardship of Prof. Kamlesh Mohan and Prof. Deepti Gupta, Dean , Alumni Relations, an online webinar titled ‘THE MOTTLED DAWN’ signifying the trauma of Partition: 15 August 1947 and the zeal and courage of those whose overcame it was organized by Panjab University Alumni Association on August 30th, 2020 .

The event began with Prof. Mohan elucidating on the shared pain of the two major communities of Punjab who were at once victims and aggressors, survivors and perpetrators on the dark night of August 1947.

Ms. Kamla Bhasin delivered a talk on ‘Women & the Healing Process’ discussing the precarious predicament of the female sex in this communal conflict. 

A poignant Nazm was read by Ravitej, an Urdu scholar followed by a recorded interview of Prof. Gulzar Singh Sandhu. 

Rajinder Singh Bedi’s story ‘Lajwanti’, a tale of woe and suffering in the wake of the Partition was read by Mr. Shams Tabrezi. 

This was followed by a short poem rendition by Ustad Chiraag Din Daaman, sourced from Youtube. The event concluding with Prof. Kamlesh Mohan reminiscing about that muggy monsoon day 74 years ago which was both a moment of victory and defeat for the people of Punjab. 

Prof. Deepti delivered the Vote of thanks and the webinar ended with interaction amongst the participants of the nostalgic past which one remembers both in fondness and anguish.
