“Brevity is the soul of short stories,” said Prof. Pankaj Malvia of the Department of Russian languages, Panjab University, Chandigarh, while addressing budding story writers of the Department of Urdu here today.
Speaking at the first ever online story telling contest organized by the Urdu Department, Prof. Malvia explained that a short story always looked life as a complete whole.
Prof. Malvia said that being a keen observer of men and their manners sorrunding him, a story writer always tried be very close to the real facts of life. “A reader always see a bit of himself or herself in a short story and is always moved by its contents touching his or her sentiments” he added.
Earlier, Dr. Renu Behl, a noted short story writer while addressing the participants said a story should touch the heart and mind of readers.
While proposing the note of thanks Dr. Ali Abbas said that human life had intimate relationship with literature especially with short stories.
In all there were 19 participants. Mrs. Gursahiba Gill, Mr. Ashish Puri and Mr. Jaskaran Singh got the first, second and third prize respectively.

पंचकूला, 7 अप्रैल- प्रधानमंत्री श्री नरेंद्र मोदी के डिजिटल भारत के विजन को साकार करने की दिशा में एक महत्वपूर्ण कदम उठाते हुए हरियाणा के शिक्षा मंत्री श्री कंवर पाल ने पंचकूला जिला के 17 राजकीय वरिष्ठ माध्यमिक विद्यालयों में विधानसभा अध्यक्ष श्री ज्ञानचंद गुप्ता द्वारा प्रायोजित स्मार्ट क्लास रूम का उद्घाटन किया। शिक्षा मंत्री श्री कंवर पाल और विधानसभा अध्यक्ष श्री ज्ञानचंद गुप्ता ने स्मार्ट क्लास रूम प्रोजैक्ट की शुरूआत राजकीय वरिष्ठ माध्यमिक विद्यालय सेक्टर-6 से की।
उल्लेखनीय है कि विधानसभा अध्यक्ष श्री ज्ञानचंद गुप्ता ने इन 17 स्कूलों में स्मार्ट क्लास रूम के साथ साथ विद्यार्थियों के लिये स्वच्छ पीने के पानी के लिये आॅरो और शौचालयों की व्यवस्था के लिये अपने निजी कोष से 50 लाख रुपये की राशि का योगदान दिया था।
कार्यक्रम में मुख्यातिथि के रूप में संबोधित करते हुए श्री कंवर पाल ने विधानसभा अध्यक्ष श्री ज्ञानचंद गुप्ता द्वारा इन स्कूलों में शैक्षणिक स्तर में सुधार लाने व विद्यार्थियों के लिये स्वच्छ पीने के पानी व शौचालयों की व्यवस्था की दिशा में दिये गये सहरानीय योगदान के लिये बधाई दी। उन्होंने कहा कि यह एक अनूठी पहल है, जिसके भविष्य में सार्थक परिणाम देखने को मिलेंगे। उन्होंने कहा कि हालांकि शिक्षा विभाग इस दिशा में अनेक कदम उठा रहा है पर व्यक्तिगत तौर पर वह स्वयं इसी तरह विद्यालयों में अपना योगदान देेंगे और साथ ही सभी मंत्रियों, विधायकों व जनप्रतिनिधियों को भी इसके लिये प्रेरित करेंगे। उन्होंने कहा कि शिक्षा विभाग द्वारा 127 करोड़ रुपये की लागत से स्कूलों में स्मार्ट क्लास रूम बनाये जा रहे है।
शिक्षा को देश, प्रदेश व समाज के विकास के लिये अह्म बताते हुए श्री कंवर पाल ने कहा कि स्मार्ट क्लास रूम प्रोजैक्ट सरकारी विद्यालयों में पढ़ने वाले बच्चों विशेषतौर पर गरीब परिवार से संबंध रखने वाले बच्चों के लिये उपयोगी सिद्ध होगा, क्योंकि वे बिना किसी अतिरिक्त वित्तीय बोझ के डिजिटल शिक्षा ग्रहण कर सकेंगे। उन्होंने कहा कि सरकारी स्कूलों में इंफ्रास्ट्रक्चर के साथ साथ शिक्षा में आधुनिक तकनीक का प्रयोग कर, निजी स्कूलों की तर्ज पर विकसित किया जा रहा है। उन्होंने कहा कि शिक्षा के क्षेत्र में सरकार के पास धन की कोई कमी नहीं है। सरकार द्वारा निर्णय लिया गया है कि प्रदेश के सरकारी स्कूलों में शिक्षा ग्रहण कर रहे लगभग 8 लाख 6 हजार विद्यार्थियों को निशुल्क टेबलेट उपलब्ध करवाये जायेंगे। हरियाणा ऐसा पहला प्रदेश है जहां इतनी बड़ी संख्या में विद्यार्थियों को पढ़ाई के लिये टैब्ज उपलब्ध करवाये जा रहे है। उन्होंने कहा कि अध्यापकों का समाज में एक विशेष स्थान है और यह समाज व विद्यार्थियों का दायित्व है कि उन्हें पूरा मान और सम्मान दिया जाये। साथ ही उन्होंने कहा कि अध्यापकों का भी समाज के प्रति दायित्व है। वह अध्यापक के कत्र्तव्य को केवल नौकरी न समझकर राष्ट्रीय निर्माण के कार्य के रूप में लें, जिससे और अच्छे परिणाम आयेंगे। उन्होंने आशा व्यक्त की कि आने वाले समय में सरकारी स्कूलों के और अच्छे परिणाम आयेंगे, जिससे विद्यार्थियों व उनके अभिभावकों का सरकारी स्कूलों के प्रति और अधिक रूझान बढ़ेगा।
-विधानसभा अध्यक्ष श्री ज्ञानचंद गुप्ता ने घोषणा की कि वह इस वर्ष के स्वैच्छिक कोष की राशि में से एक करोड़ रुपये शिक्षा सुधार पर खर्च करेंगे।
विधानसभा अध्यक्ष श्री ज्ञानचंद गुप्ता ने कहा कि स्मार्ट क्लास रूम उनका एक ड्रीम प्रोजैक्ट है। उन्होंने कहा कि प्रधानमंत्री श्री नरेंद्र मोदी के डिजिटलीकरण व कंप्यूटरीकरण के विजन को आगे बढ़ाने के लिये उन्होंने 6 महीने पूर्व पंचकूला विधानसभा क्षेत्र के 17 स्कूलों में स्मार्ट क्लास रूम बनाने का एक सपना संजोया था, जो आज पूरा हुआ हैं। इन सभी स्कूलों में बच्चों को स्वच्छ पानी उपलब्ध करवाने के लिये आॅरो के साथ साथ शौचालयों की व्यवस्था भी की गई है। उन्होंने कहा कि इस कार्य के लिये 50 लाख रुपये अपने स्वैच्छिक कोष से दिये है। उन्होंने उदारता दिखाते हुए कहा कि यह स्वैच्छिक कोष का पैसा जनता का है और जनता के लिये ही इसका उपयोग किया गया है।
श्री गुप्ता ने कहा कि प्रदेश में शिक्षा के स्तर में गुणात्तमक सुधार लाने की दिशा में मुख्यमंत्री श्री मनोहरलाल द्वारा अनेक प्रयास किये जा रहे है। नई-नई योजनायें बनाई जा रही है ताकि बच्चों को शिक्षा के साथ साथ निजी स्कूलों की तर्ज पर सभी सुविधायें उपलब्ध करवाई जा सके। हालांकि उन्होंने कहा कि पंचकूला में सरकारी स्कूल किसी भी प्रकार से निजी स्कूलों से पीछे नहीं है। उन्होंने आशा व्यक्त की कि आने वाले समय में सरकारी स्कूलों के परिणाम अच्छे आयेंगे और बच्चों व उनके परिजनों का रूझान सरकारी स्कूलों की तरफ पुनः बढ़ेगा।
उन्होंने सुझाव देते हुए कहा कि शिक्षा के स्तर में सुधार लाने के लिये सरकारी अधिकारियों व जनता के चुने हुए प्रतिनिधियों को स्वयं पहल करते हुए अपने बच्चों को सरकारी स्कूलों में शिक्षा दिलवानी चाहिए। इससे दूसरे लोगों को भी अपने बच्चों को सरकारी स्कूलों में शिक्षा दिलवाने की प्रेरणा मिलेगी। उन्होंने कहा कि प्रधानमंत्री श्री नरेंद्र मोदी के आत्मनिर्भर भारत के विजन को साकार करने के लिये स्टार्टअपस को आगे लाना जरूरी है। उन्होंने शिक्षा मंत्री से आह्वान किया कि शिक्षा क्षेत्र में लागू होने वाले प्रोजैक्टस में 20 प्रतिशत काम स्टार्टअपस के लिये आरक्षित किया जाना चाहिए, जिससे युवाओं को और अधिक बढ़ावा मिलेगा।
इससे पहले शिक्षा मंत्री श्री कंवर पाल और विधानसभा अध्यक्ष श्री ज्ञानंचद गुप्ता ने स्मार्ट क्लास रूम में जाकर प्रोजैक्ट की जानकारी ली। इंफोहाईटैक साॅलुशन्ज के कपिल जिंदल ने बताया कि स्मार्ट क्लास रूम प्रोजैक्ट 17 स्कूलों में शुरू किया गया हैं और कोविड काल में यह अध्यापकों और बच्चों के लिये विशेषतौर पर फायदेमंद रहेगा। इसके माध्यम से अध्यापक अपना लैक्चर स्कूल या घर बैठे बच्चों तक ई-मेल और व्हट्सअप के माध्यम से भेज सकेंगे। उन्होंने बताया कि स्मार्ट क्लास रूम में पहली से 12वीं कक्षा तक के विद्यार्थियों के लिये सभी विषयों की डिजिटल सामग्री के साथ साथ क्यूशन बैंक भी उपलब्ध होंगे।

Centre for Human Rights and Duties, Panjab University (Chandigarh) in collaboration with Office of Dean International Students, Panjab University is organizing ‘Mobility Programme with Western Sydney University, Australia under New Colombo Plan’ in an online mode on the theme ‘Closing the Gap: Enhancing Women’s health and Well Being’ from April 6, 2021 to May 21, 2021. The Programme is divided into different sessions going to be presided over by delegates and experts from the field.
Dr. Namita Gupta, Programme Coordinator and Chairperson of Centre for Human Rights and Duties, in her inaugural welcome informed the participants that Panjab University Chandigarh has an MOU with Western Sydney University Australia. This is third programme in the series. This year due to the pandemic the program is continued in an online mode. The theme of this year is ‘Closing the gap: enhancing women’s health and wellbeing’. The programme will have 60 hours of interaction among the students of Western Sydney University Australia and Centre for Human Rights and Duties Panjab University from April 6 to May 21, 2021.
Dr. Renu Narchal who is a Programme Coordinator from Western Sydney University, Australia introduced the theme of this programme. She mentioned that the first programme of the MoU was held in 2016, second in 2018 and third now in 2021 through virtual mode because of corona pandemic situation.
Prof. Anju Suri, Dean international Students, welcomed the distinguished guests which included the presence of Prof. Raj Kumar, Vice Chancellor, Panjab University; Prof. Deborah Sweeney, Deputy Vice Chancellor and Vice -President(Research, Enterprise and International), Western Sydney University, Australia; Prof. Tanya Meade, Dean, School of Psychology; Dr Tim Griffin, Deputy Dean, School of Psychology; Ms Isis Kowaliauskas, Manager, International Mobility Go Global and Study Abroad and Steven McDonald (Manager, Short-term Mobility).
Prof. Deborah Sweeney, Deputy Vice Chancellor, Western Sydney University, Australia mentioned that Australia is 2nd in the world Gender Equity Impact and 3rd in reducing gender inequality Index. Physical & mental health and well being of all people especially women and children is very necessary to flourish relationships in the families. Gender equity, gender justice and women empowerment is one of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. It is the need of the hour to close the gender gaps, respect the sense of togetherness and promotion of healthy lifestyle among women. Therefore, the aim of this programme is to engage students of Panjab University and Western Sydney University to develop strategies and promote self empathy through collaborative platform.
Prof. Raj Kumar, Vice Chancellor of Panjab University in his inaugural address stated that Women’s’ health and wellbeing is a matter of concern globally and the theme has become more relevant during the Covid 19 Pandemic as disparities in health care facilities especially from gender perspective has become more vivid during the last one year. The programme will facilitate the exchange of ideas, policies, and practices across continents. He added that this project will further strengthen institutional ties and promote long-term out-bound student mobility, student exchange, internships and scholarships between these two Universities. He also applauded the efforts made by Centre for Human Rights and Duties and Dean International Students in taking the initiative in organizing this programme during pandemic.

He added that the essence of all the spiritual literature stressed on the oneness of God and oneness of mankind. This message is the Central theme of Quran Sharief, Gita, Guru Granth Sahib, Bible and other religious scriptures, he added.
Presiding over the meeting, Prof. Rehana Parveen (Retd.) said that all religions and religious books had always preached love, compassion, mutual cooperation and peaceful co-existence.
Mr. Jaspreet Singh, a research scholar of the Urdu Department while speaking on Japuji Sahib said that the message of Japuji Sahib would always remain relevant to all the ages of the human society.

Panjab University, Chandigarh, in collaboration with Heartful Campus of Heartfulness Institute, Hyderabad initiated its 7th International online Self Development Programme (SDP) on 9th January 2021 which is offering a unique opportunity to participants for shaping their personalities as it focuses on character formation and inculcation of core values to strengthen Inner-Self. The programme is uniquely designed by integrating the knowledge of the ancient Indian philosophical wisdom of Yoga with Heart centric approach of meditation.
In the series of online session, the 18th session was held on 4th April, on Soft Skills Development by using the approach of Self Exploration by guest speaker Ms. Rikita Swaroop, Master Trainer for MEPSC –National skills Development Corporation India from Ranchi, Jharkhand. She used Mentimeter to reach out to participants while making them think by asking probing existential questions for which they were forced to peep within to find answers. This was followed by anecdotes and sharing of lived experiences. The dilemmas which we face in our day to day living were highlighted beautifully by her. Values need to be discussed through jurisprudence and clarification approach was the message she gave to teachers. Teachers themselves have to practice those virtues about which they talk about in their class room.
Earlier, the session began with yogic technique of body relaxation followed by discussions on how a simple meditation practice can not only relieve the heaviness of the mind but takes on to create a new version of yourself, full of unlimited potential and excellence.
The programme was coordinated By Prof. Latika Sharma and Prof O. P. Katare. The event witnessed an audience of over 100 enthusiastic participants including faculty and students from across the country.
The talk concluded by reminiscing the beauty of the spring flower which begins again, the day you begin is a journey in its own. Overall, the session had a magical effect opening a new dimension and perspective in order to transform the personality.
During the various sessions eminent experts from various fields deliberated on various themes including emotional strength, will power development, intuitional intelligence, stress moderation, time management and holistic health by sharing their valuable knowledge and experience with participants.

पंचकूला, 2 अप्रैल- हरियाणा विधानसभा अध्यक्ष श्री ज्ञानचंद गुप्ता ने आज सेक्टर-3 स्थित ताऊ देवी लाल खेल स्टेडियम में तीन दिवसीय 15 वीं अश्विनी गुप्ता ममोरियल डिस्ट्रिक्ट बेडमिंटन चेंपियनशिप का उद्घाटन किया। अश्विनी गुप्ता ममोरियल ट्रस्ट और जिला बेडमिंटन एसोसिएशन के संयुक्त तत्वाधान में 2 से 4 अप्रैल तक आयोजित की जा रही इस चेंपियनशिप में करीब 125 प्रतिभागी भाग ले रहे है, जिनमें 2019 की अंडर 17 की नेशनल चेंपियन देविका सिहाग और रिद्धि कौर तूर और 2015 राष्ट्रीय खेलों के सिल्वर विजेता अक्षित महाजन भी शामिल है।
इस अवसर पर विधानसभा अध्यक्ष श्री ज्ञानचंद गुप्ता, नगर निगम महापौर कुलभूषण गोयल व अन्य गणमान्य व्यक्तियों ने दिवंगत श्री अश्विनी गुप्ता को पुष्प अर्पित कर श्रद्धांजलि दी।
मुख्यातिथि के तौर पर संबोधित करते हुए श्री गुप्ता ने कहा कि अश्विनी गुप्ता ममोरियल डिस्ट्रिक्ट बेडमिंटन चेंपियनशिप उनके दिवंगत पुत्र श्री अश्विनी गुप्ता की याद में पिछले 15 वर्षों से आयोजित की जा रही है।
श्री गुप्ता ने बताया कि श्री अश्विनी गुप्ता के आकस्मिक निधन के पश्चात उनकी याद में अश्विनी गुप्ता ममोरियल ट्रस्ट का गठन किया गया था। ट्रस्ट द्वारा उनकी याद में प्रतिवर्ष चार कार्यक्रम आयोजित किये जाते है, जिसमें यह बेडमिंटन चेंपियनशिप भी शामिल है। इसके अलावा रक्तदान शिविर और आखों के आॅपरेशन का कैंप और गांव में युवाओं को प्रोत्साहित करने के लिये कबड्डी प्रतियोगिता का आयोजन भी किया जाता हैं। उन्होंने कहा कि बच्चों का खेलों के प्रति आकर्षित करने और उन्हें प्रोत्साहन देने के लिये हर वर्ष पांच लाख रुपये तक के इनाम वितरित किये जाते है। इससे ना केवल युवाओं का खेलों के प्रति रूझान बढत़ा है बल्कि उनकी ऊर्जा को सकारात्मक दिशा में उपयोग करके, युवाओं को नशे जैसे बुरी आदत से भी बचाने में मदद मिलती है। इसके अलावा अश्विनी गुप्ता ममोरियल ट्रस्ट द्वारा ऐसे गरीब परिवारों के बच्चों को भी वित्तीय सहायता उपलब्ध करवाई जाती हैं जो गरीबी के कारण पढ़ाई नहीं कर पाते।
श्री गुप्ता ने कहा कि पिछले वर्ष कोरोना महामारी के कारण इस बेडमिंटन चेंपियनशिप का आयोजन नहीं हो पाया था परंतु इस बार यह निर्णय लिया गया है कि खेल प्रतिस्पर्धाओं को कोविड-19 के नियमों की पालना करते हुए जारी रखा जाना चाहिए। उन्होंने अपील की कि कोरोना अभी खत्म नही हुआ है और इसके बचाव के लिये सभी सामाजिक दूरी (दो गज की दूरी) बनाये रखें और मास्क व सेनिटाईजर का उपयोग करें।
उन्होंने कहा कि इस महामारी से बचाव के लिये हमारे वैज्ञानिकों ने कोरोना वैक्सीन बनाकर देशवासियों को बहुत बड़ा तोहफा दिया है। इस वैेक्सीन को लगवाकर इस महामारी से बचा जा सकता है। उन्होंने कहा कि इस महामारी के फैलाव को रोकने के लिये वैक्सीन के साथ साथ हम सबको मिलकर प्रयत्न करने होंगे। उन्होंने बेडमिंटन चेंपियनशिप में भाग ले रहे खिलाड़ियों से विशेष आग्रह किया कि वे खेलों को खेल की भावना से खेले और कोविड-19 के दिशानिर्देशों का पालन अवश्यक करें।
श्री गुप्ता ने बताया कि 4 अप्रैल को प्रतियोगिता के समापन अवसर पर खेल राज्यमंत्री श्री संदीप सिंह विजेताओं को पुरस्कार देकर सम्मानित करेंगे। उन्होंने आशा व्यक्त की कि अश्विनी गुप्ता ममोरियल ट्रस्ट इसी प्रकार से समाज सेवा की गतिविधियों में अपनी सकारात्मक भूमिका निभाता रहेगा।
उद्घाटन के उपरांत विधानसभा अध्यक्ष श्री ज्ञानचंद गुप्ता और नगर निगम महापौर श्री कुलभूषण गोयल ने बेडमिंटन खेलकर खिलाड़ियों को प्रोत्साहित किया।

University Business School, Panjab University, Chandigarh is proud of Mr. Subhash Kumar, who completed the Master of Commerce programme of Panjab University with distinction in 1983, for having assumed the additional charge of the Chairman and Managing Director of Oil and Natural Gas Corporation(ONGC) today, shared Prof. V.R. Sinha, Dean of University Instructions, PU and Chairman, UBS. He also expressed that it is a moment of pride for PU also.
Mr. Kumar is Director (Finance) of ONGC, one of the Global 500 companies, since January 2018. Previously, he had a brief stint as Director (Finance) at Petronet LNG Ltd, a role he took up in August 2017.
Mr Kumar joined ONGC in 1985 as Finance & Accounts Officer (F&AO). After initially working in Jammu and Dehradun, he had a long stint at ONGC Videsh, the overseas arm of ONGC. During his tenure with ONGC Videsh, Mr Kumar was associated with key acquisitions and expansion of company’s footprint from single asset company in 2001 into a company with global presence in 17 countries with 37 assets. He played a key role in evaluation and acquisition of many Assets abroad by ONGC Videsh.
He worked as Head Business Development, Finance & Budget and also as Head Treasury Planning & Portfolio Management Group at ONGC Videsh from April 2010 to March 2015. He then went on to serve as Chief Financial Officer of Mansarovar Energy Colombia Limited, a 50:50 joint venture of ONGC Videsh and Sinopec of China, from September 2006 to March 2010.
Mr Kumar joined back ONGC as Chief Commercial & Head Treasury of ONGC in July, 2016 where he played a key role in evaluation, negotiation, and concluding outstanding issues pertaining to the organization.
