Women Development Cell in collaboration with Legal Aid Society and NSS, UILS, Panjab University conducted a webinar to commemorate the Indian Army Day on 15 th January 2022. The theme for the webinar is “The Fierce Bravery: Women and their role in the Indian Army”.

The webinar was organized under the chief patronage of Prof. Raj Kumar (Vice, Chancellor, PU) and hosted by Dr. Rajinder Kaur (Director, UILS, PU). The chief guest for the webinar was rtd. Lt. Col. NVN Rao gave her valuable insights regarding women and the Indian Army.

The webinar began at 11 AM with a formal welcome to guest of the day, by Dr. Karan Jawanda, teacher coordinator of legal aid Society. After her welcome, a creative wing of women Development Cell presented a video giving a heartfelt tribute to soldiers who died while protecting Mother India. The day was celebrated to honor those soldiers who made selfless sacrifices and showed valor on the war front.

 The Guest gave valuable insights on how the Indian Army is one of the finest disciplines in the world. The one who teaches us to not only carry our uniform everywhere but take pride in wearing it. The ones who are always there for our safety, smiles, and our sustainability.

Let. Col even talk about career opportunities for women in Army, especially after law graduation.

She gave valuable information from her past experience, how she managed her personal and professional life.

The webinar ended around 1 pm , with a vote of thanks presented by Dr. Anupam Bahri, Teacher coordinator of the women Development cell and Legal Aid Society.

Faculty Development Program on Integration Theory: Mathematical Analysis Concludes

A week-long Faculty Development Program (FDP) on Integration Theory: Mathematical Analysis was organized by the Department of Mathematics and HRDC, P. U. Chandigarh during January 4-10, 2022. The basic objective of this program was to give exposure to the faculty of colleges and universities on Integration Theory and its related areas of Mathematics.

The FDP started with an inaugural talk on the Evolution of Integration Theory by  Professor Inder K. Rana (Retd. IIT Bombay). He gave two talks in which he gave a glimpse of the historical development of the subject focusing on the contributions of Pythagoras, Archimedes, Eudoxes, Riemann, and Lebesgue. Prof Amin Sofi, NBHM Professor at Jammu and Kashmir Institute of Mathematical Sciences, gave talks on Axiom of Choice and various related paradoxes, along with its significance in rigor. Professor S. Pirzada, Head, Department of Mathematics, Kashmir University presented a Tour of Analysis through Graph Theory; signifying unity among different branches of Mathematics and Computer Science.

The FDP had 30 participants from 13 states of India from Jammu and Kashmir in the North to Tamil Nadu in the South and from Assam in the East to Maharashtra in the West. There were 10 resource persons from six different institutes of National Repute, including IIT Bombay, IISER Mohali and IIT Ropar. Prof. Narsimhulu Yakkala, Honorary Director, HRDC, University of Hyderabad., Professor BS Rajput, former Vice-Chancellor, Professor of Physics in Kumaon University and Chairman U.P.State Council for Higher Education Lucknow, were prominent among them. There were separate discussion sessions to ponder upon tricks of the trade, current trends, and professional opportunities; particularly for young researchers.

Waste Processing plant to be upgraded within 3 months : Administrator

Chandigarh, January 14:- Sh. Banwarilal Purohit, Governor, Punjab and Administrator, UT, Chandigarh has directed the Chandigarh Smart City Ltd. and Municipal Corporation Chandigarh to prepare a plan to completely clear the legacy waste from the dumping ground in Dadu Majra.

The Administrator visited the legacy mining site alongwith compost plant at Dadumajra today in the presence of Smt. Sarbjit Kaur, Mayor, Sh. Dharam Pal, IAS, Adviser to the Administrator, Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS, Commissioner, MCC & CEO, Chandigarh Smart City Ltd., Sh. Dalip Sharma, Senior Deputy Mayor, Sh. Anup Gupta, Deputy Mayor, Sh. Kuldeep Kumar, area councillor and other councillors of MCC.

Keeping in view the health and hygiene of the residents of Dadumajra, the Governor directed the officers concerned to clear the backlog of RDF lying inside the boundary wall within one week. He directed the officers to prepare a detailed plan to clear the rest of the legacy waste from the mining site with additional processing by putting more manpower and machinery if required.

The Administrator directed the Adviser to take up with power plants of neighbouring states of Haryana and Punjab to lift the RDF generated to get rid of the accumulated RDF in the mining area.

The Commissioner apprised the Administrator and Adviser that the biomining work at old dumping site was allotted to a private firm to biomine 5 lakh metric tonne of waste and biomining of one part of the garbage dump was on and it will be completed very soon.

She also apprised that the Municipal Corporation had taken over the waste processing plant from Jaypee group last year.

The Administrator directed that the processing machinery be upgraded immediately at to ensure that fresh waste does not end up at the dumping ground directly. He also directed that the proposal submitted to GoI under SBM of 77 crores for the bioremediation of the 7.67 LMT legacy waste be pursued and got cleared at the earliest.

The Administrator also visited the compost plant at Dadumajra. He directed the concerned officers to upgrade the capacity of the plant and use the manure generated from the plant in their own assets.

Webinar on National Youth day organised by Youth Welfare Department, PU

To mark Swami Vivekananda’s birth anniversary, the Department of Youth Welfare, Panjab University, Chandigarh organized a webinar on the occasion of National Youth Day titled ‘Youth of 21st Century’ Century’.  Dr. Muneeshwar Joshi, Secretary to Vice Chancellor welcomed the Chief Guest Prof (Dr.) Harmohinder Singh Bedi Hon’ble Chancellor, Central University of Himachal Pradesh & Fellow, Panjab University, Chandigarh.

            Prof. H.S. Bedi stated that how the renowned scientists and personalities all over the world were amazed by the teachings of Swami Vivekananda. To encourage and motivate our young brains, Swami ji’s thoughts, speeches, and writings on the development and progress of youth were discussed. H.S. Bedi concluded his lecture with inspiring words of Max Muller to encourage our youth to remain focussed.

            Muneeshwar. Joshi while congratulating everyone on occasion of National youth day, appreciated the vibrant presence of the Youth, the harbinger of a change in society. He said that Youth of today are ready to take up the cudgels to fight for a constructive reformation in culture and represent themselves as a catalyst of such prospective change and future. It is capable leadership and patronage of worthy Vice-Chancellor, Prof Raj Kumar, the Department of Youth Welfare takes advantage of every chance to engage youth in various activities that span all elements of their development, from personal to professional. He congratulated Dr Nirmal Jaura, Director of Youth Welfare, for organising such a discussion. He also said that, according to Swami Ji’s different quotations, youth manifests joyousness, enthusiasm, keenness, power, dynamism, strength, ambition, perseverance, and other such emotions and characteristics. For our country’s future, we have the potential to develop constructive ideas, venture, or foray into any field, whether it is politics, science, societal responsiveness, business, or bureaucracy. Weu have the potential to shape a better future for our country as a metaphor and an accurate representation of the phrase “transformation and reforms.”

Induction of Young Communicators Club School of Communication Studies, PU

The School of Communication Studies (SCS), Panjab University, induced the Young Communicators Club in collaboration with the Public Relations Council of India (PRCI). The Chief Guests at the event were Mr. Charanjeet Singh ( National Vice-president, PRCI), Mrs. Renuka Salwan (North Regional Head, PRCI), and Mr. Vivek Atray (Chairman, PRCI Chandigarh Chapter).

Mrs. Renuka Salwan explained the role, attributes, and relation of the YCC with the PRCI. She emphasized developing public relations and media aspects of event management. She stressed the dissemination of the information after the event has elapsed and how YCC would help the students develop these skills.

Mr. Charanjeet Singh congratulated the faculty members and the YCC Executive Committee for the induction of the club. He encouraged the students with his wise words saying they need to develop and improve the skills required for the opportunities that will knock on their doors. He also added that youngsters have the ability to bring the necessary change in society.

The Chairman of PRCI, Mr. Vivek Atray, said, “To counter our own lack of confidence is a battle to be won. To project ourselves as an inspiration, to be knowledgeable and to share that knowledge is something that should be our goal”.

पंचकूला, 8 जनवरी- जिलाधीश श्री महावीर कौशिक ने कोरोना वायरस के बढते मामलों के दृष्टिगत तथा मरीजों की देखभाल के लिए राजकीय महाविद्यालय कालका में पूरी तरह से संचालित कोविड केयर सेंटर स्थापित करने के निर्देश दिये हैं।

जिलाधीश द्वारा जारी आदेशों के अनुसार पुलिस उपायुक्त सभी कोविड केयर सेंटरों पर आवश्यक सुरक्षा उपलब्ध करवाना सुनिश्चित करेंगे। एसडीएम कालका को कालका में स्थापित कोविड केयर सेंटर की निगरानी के लिए ओवर आॅल इंचार्ज नियुक्त किया गया है। इसके अलावा सिविल सर्जन पंचकूला को निर्देश दिये गए हैं कि वे संबंधित कोविड केयर सेंटर पर सभी आवश्यक दवाइयों तथा अन्य प्रबंध करना सुनिश्चित करें। तहसीलदार कालका श्री विक्रम सिंह को राजकीय महाविद्यालय कालका में स्थापित कोविड केयर सेंटर में सभी प्रकार की रसद सामग्री पहुंचाने के जिए इंचार्ज नियुक्त किया गया है। इसके अलावा खण्ड विकास एवं पंचायत अधिकारी पिंजौर को संबंधित कोविड केयर सेंटर पर स्वच्छता बनाए रखने तथा भोजन इत्यादि की व्यवस्था करने के निर्देश दिये गए हैं। कालका नगर परिषद के कार्यकारी अधिकारी को केन्द्र की नियमित साफ-सफाई, सैनीटाईजेशन तथा ठोस व बायोमेडिकल कचरे का निपटान करवाने के निर्देश दिये गए हैं। इसके अतिरिक्त जन स्वास्थ्य अभियांत्रिकी विभाग के कार्यकारी अभियंता केन्द्र पर नियमित पीने के पानी की आपूर्ति सुनिश्चित करेंगे।

Sameer Wankhede harassment case: NCSC asks CS, DGP Maharashtra & CP Mumbai to appear for physical hearing on Jan 31

NCSC asks CS & DGP (Maharashtra), CP (Mumbai) and Union Secretary (Home Affairs), to appear in person before Commission Chairman Vijay Sampla on January 31 regarding the hearing of Sameer Wankhede harassment case

Taking investigation to next step, the National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC) asked the Chief Secretary & DGP Maharashtra, CP Mumbai Police along with Union Secretary, Home Affairs to appear for in-person hearing before Commission Chairman Vijay Sampla on January 31 regarding the ‘NCB zonal director Sameer Wankhede harassment case’. NCSC also asked the petitioner to be present in the Commission on the day of the hearing.

While issuing written orders NCSC director, said, “Chairman Vijay Sampla has fixed a meeting with all of you, in person, on January 31 at 11 am in his chamber at Loknayak Bhawan, New Delhi. Accordingly, you are to appear in person, along with an updated action taken report and all relevant documents including the relevant files, case diaries, to facilitate the hearing.”

NCSC further recommended Maharashtra government not to take final decision in the matter, till the investigation is pending with the Commission. 

“No final decision in the matter is to be taken by the State Government till the pendency of the investigation of the case in the Commission. This is as per Commission’s Rules of Procedure (RoP) clause 7.2”, the NCSC director said in the official letter.

Sameer Wankhede, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB)’s Mumbai Zonal director, has been in the limelight in connection with the Aryan Khan case and was recently accused by Maharashtra Minister Nawab Malik of faking his caste certificate. NCSC, however, is examining the complaint of Sameer Wankhede that he was being implicated in a false case.

Wankhede had written to the commission alleging harassment following “disclosures” made by NCP Minister Nawab Malik. The minister had alleged that Wankhede was a Muslim and had secured an IRS job claiming to be from the Scheduled Caste. Malik had alleged that Wankhede’s father’s name was Dawood and not Dyandev. Wankhede has denied all allegations.
