*MCC to strengthen sewerage system near village Burail on dividing road of Sector 44/45*

*Mayor lays foundation stone for the augmentation of main trunk sewerage system under AMRUT 2.0*

For Detailed

Chandigarh, October 30:- Aimed at strengthening the sewerage system near village Burail on dividing road of sector 44-B/45-A, Chandigarh, the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh has started the work of augmentation of main trunk sewerage system under AMRUT 2.0 scheme.

City Mayor Sh. Anup Gupta today laid the foundation stone for the augmentation of main trunk sewerage system in the presence of Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS, Commissioner, Sh. Kanwarjeer Singh, Senior Deputy Mayor, Sh. Jasmanpreet Singh, area councilor and other prominent persons of local area.

While speaking on the occasion, the Mayor said that this work will be completed within six months of time period at approximate cost of Rs. 2.35 crores. He said that sewer main trunk lines laid parallel to Shanti path is taking load of sectors 12, 14, 15, 24, 33, 38 (West) and Dadumajra etc. including sector 45, Chandigarh. The line is primarily of egg shaped 38”x56” but due to construction of RCC duct near village Burail, the size has reduced to 32” which is hampering the capacity of the line.

He said that frequent blocking of this line resulted into multiple collapses of this egg shaped sewer around the year resulting in financial losses to the MCC. The MCC planned to lay a parallel alternate sewer line using an 80mm (32”) i/d RCC pipe NP-3 with HDPE lining. This new line will have an approximate length of 660 meters and will include the construction of machine hole chambers.

The Mayor further said that it will also connect with the existing (24”x36”) line to alleviate the excessive sewer load on the main trunk (34”x51”) at the roundabout of sector 33/44. This project aims to improve the sewerage system and prevent further financial losses to MCC, he added.
