Skill India organised Kaushal Dikshant Samaroh 2023, a convocation ceremony to recognise and honour the youth who have completed their training under the various schemes and programmes of Skill India under the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship. The event’s live streamingwas organised at Panjab University by the Centre for Skill Development & Entrepreneurship and the University Institute of Applied Management Sciences for the students, researchers and faculty. The audience witnessed the top performers from multiple skill development institutes being felicitated. The Hon’ble Prime Minister, in his address, reiterated that industry, research and skills have to be sensitive to the changing times. India is poised to become the global hub of skilled workforce through various government initiatives.

*GMSH sector 16 served notice for non-compliance under statutory provisions of Solid Waste Management Rules, 2016*

*MCC orders waiver of penalty imposed on 4 societies w.e.f. further water billing cycle*

*Chandigarh, October 4:-* Tightening the noose around defaulters for non-compliance of  statutory provisions of Solid Waste Management Rules, 2016 by some BWGs and at the same time appreciating the efforts of some other BWGs, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh served notice to defaulter GMSH-16, Chandigarh and also gave waiver of penalty to 4 BWG private societies.

Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh said that all institutions or societies , Government or Private, which is a bulk waste generator, is mandated to, as per the Solid Waste Management rules 2016, to process their own wet waste as stipulated in the Rule 4 (7) of SWM Rules, 2016. 

As per the notice, the Director, Health Services, GMSH-16 has been directed to comply with waste management norms by 14th October 2023, failing which the hospital will be fined as per rules. 

Failure to comply with rule 4 (7) of SWM rules 2016 Rs. 500+19500 shall be levied once in a month as a fine and administrative charges and failure to handover the residual waste to MCC, as per rule 4 (7) of SWM rules 2016 . Rs. 2000 per day shall be levied upon bulk waste generators who are unable to process their waste onsite as a payment for collection, transport and processing by MCC.

After conducting the physical inspection conducted by the field supervisory staff of MCC, it was noticed that the statutory provisions were not being complied with and processing of wet waste was not being done by the hospital authorities in accordance with the rules.

 In another order passed by the Commissioner, major relief was given to the four Bulk Waste Generator societies as per the resolution passed by the General House on dated 29.08.2023 that the penalty under SWM Rules 2016 imposed on these four societies namely BSNL Society sector 50, Kendriya Vihar Society sector 48, Pushpak Society sector 49 and Progressive Society sector 50, Chandigarh be waived off immediately from further water billing cycle.

The waste processing of these four societies is to be done in an SSK of MCC where a machine has been set up for the purpose. The same has been purchased through MPLAD funds. The machine shall be operational as soon as electricity connection is released.

*Chandigarh, October 2:-* To express gratitude and honor Safaimitras and their families, the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh organised ‘Swachh Bharat Divas’ and ‘Gandhi Jayanti’ at Rani Laxmi Bai Mahila Bhawan, Sector 38, here today for their unwavering dedication and tireless efforts to keep the city Swachh.

Sh. Banwarilal Purohit, Governor, Punjab and Administrator, UT, Chandigarh was the Chief Guest during the auspicious occasion. He honoured the Safaimitras and their families for their selfless service in the presence of Sh. Anup Gupta, Mayor, Sh. Dharampal, IAS, Adviser to the Administrator, Sh. Nitin Kumar Yadav, IAS, Secretary, Local Body, Sh. Vijay Namdeo Rao Jade, IAS, Finance Secretary, Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS, Municipal Commissioner, Sh. Kanwarjeet Singh Rana, Senior Deputy Mayor, councilors and officers of MCC and Safaimitras alongwith their families.

Emphasising the invaluable contribution of Safaimitras in keeping the city clean and extending heartfelt gratitude for their selfless service, the Governor appreciated the honesty of the Safaimitras and said that these inspiring individuals and their families have played a pivotal role in maintaining the cleanliness and hygiene of the city beautiful.

He said that Swachhanjali, a day dedicated to recognizing the commitment of Safaimitras towards a cleaner and #GarbageFreeIndia, showcased the remarkable achievements and contributions of these individuals. Their hard work, perseverance, and unwavering dedication serve as an inspiration to everyone, emphasizing the importance of collective efforts in achieving a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable future.

He said that he was deeply honored to be a part of this Swachh Samman Samaroh event and to have the opportunity to acknowledge the extraordinary efforts of Safaimitras. Their dedication and hard work in maintaining cleanliness and hygiene in the city is truly inspiring. He said that today, we come together to express our gratitude and extend our support to their families. He exhorted everyone to join hands in creating a cleaner and more sustainable future for Chandigarh, he said.

In a heartwarming gesture, the Governor condoled the demise of a municipal worker and handed over an insurance cheque amounting to Rs. 2.5 lacs , insured through Punjab & Sind Bank to the family of a deceased municipal worker. He also handed over certificates of different welfare schemes of Government of India i.e. Aayushman Card, Atal Pension Yojna, Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY), Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojna (PMJJBY) etc to beneficiaries from the sanitation employees. This gesture acknowledged the sacrifice and dedication of these individuals and aims to provide support to their families during difficult times.

While addressing the safaimitras, city Mayor Sh. Anup Gupta expressed his gratitude towards the Safaimitras and their families, saying, “The dedication and hard work of Safaimitras is truly commendable. They have been instrumental in keeping our city clean and ensuring a healthier environment for all. Today, we honor their service and stand in solidarity with their families.

In her welcome address, the Municipal Commissioner Ms. Anindita Mitra said that the Swachh Samman Samaroh is a testament to the extraordinary efforts of Safaimitras. Their commitment to cleanliness and sanitation inspires us all. It is an honor to celebrate their achievements and express our deepest condolences to the families of deceased Safaimitras. *Chandigarh, October 1:-* In response to the call of Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Sh. Narendra Modi, the citizens of Chandigarh, the City Beautiful, united in an extraordinary display of civic pride and community spirit.

 With an astonishing turnout of approximately 30,000 individuals across 230 different locations, the people of Chandigarh joined forces to give their heartfelt *Swachhanjali* to the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi.

The monumental cleanliness drives reverberated with passion and enthusiasm, encompassing all 35 wards of the city and engaging a multitude of organizations, departments, schools, NGOs, and citizens from all walks of life. This inclusive effort saw the active participation of small children, women, senior citizens, college students, celebrities, eminent personalities, and others.

Cleaning initiatives stretched far and wide, targeting various areas within each ward such as parks maintained by Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs), market areas and their back lanes meticulously cleaned by Market Welfare Associations (MWAs), public toilets, schools, forest areas, mandis, transport hubs, and residential areas.

The Governor of Punjab and Administrator U.T. Chandigarh Sh. Banwarilal Purohit, accompanied by city Mayor Sh. Anup Gupta, Municipal Commissioner Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS area councilor Sh. Rajinder Sharma and volunteer students of NSS, joined forces to clean up Apni Mandi, Sector 49, as part of the Swachhta hi Seva campaign. The enthusiasm and efforts displayed by the the Governor and the students, even in the scorching heat, were truly commendable as they cleared up fruit and vegetable waste scattered across the apni mandi ground.

Led by city Mayor the youth of the city demonstrated unrivaled dedication and commitment to a cleaner, greener Chandigarh. The inaugural cleanliness drive set the tone for the entire campaign, with Mayor Anup Gupta taking charge and leading the Swachhata ke liye Shramdaan alongside enthusiastic students from Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 21. Together, they meticulously cleaned up littered garbage in Sector 21, serving as a shining example for all.

The Sabzi Mandi of Sector 26 witnessed a remarkable display of civic duty, with over 500 volunteers coming together under the guidance of the Mayor of Chandigarh, making a significant impact on cleanliness.

In a resounding show of national pride and dedication to cleanliness, more than 2000 students from Chandigarh University created a magnificent National Flag formation. Their unwavering determination led them to clean up the densely populated residential area of Manimajra, leaving no stone unturned in their mission to make India Garbage Free!

The dedicated team at Chandigarh Transport Undertaking, in collaboration with Members of Auto Union and Bhartiya Mazdoor Sangh, embarked on four locations across major transport hubs in the city. Depot I & II Industrial Area Phase I, ISBT-17, Depot-III sector 25, and ISBT 43 were thoroughly cleaned during the Swachhata ke liye Shramdaan initiative.

Renowned Bollywood singer B Praak, the voice behind the melodious Swachhta Anthem – Rakhna Sambhaal Chandigarh, led the Swachhata ke liye Shramdaan cleanliness drive at the Park in Sector 10, further galvanizing the community.

Key officials from the Chandigarh Administration, including Sh. Nitin Yadav, IAS, Secretary Local Government, who led the “Swachhanjali” with representatives of Market Welfare Associations at Sector 11 market, and Finance Secretary, Sh. Vijay Zade, IAS, who spearheaded the drive in the neighborhood park of Sector 27, actively participated in the cleanliness movement.

Not stopping at just one community, Chandigarh also organized an inclusive cleanliness drive to maintain the inside and outside premises of cemeteries belonging to minority communities such as Bahai and Muslims, alongside the Hindu cemetery in Sector 25, where city Mayor led the cleanliness drive.

Furthermore, Gaushalas in Sector 25 & 45 were subjects of extensive cleaning drives, thanks to the collaborative efforts of Chandigarh’s Charted Accountants Association and Chandigarh Residents’ Associations Welfare Federation.

MC Chandigarh also took an important step towards ensuring cleanliness and safety by collecting gloves and masks during the Swachhanjali – cleanliness drive citywide. These vital items are being handled responsibly, with proper disposal methods in place to safeguard both the environment and public health.

In addition to the cleanliness drives, Chandigarh’s commitment to proper waste management was evident during the Swachhata Pakhwada – Swachhata Hi Seva campaign. Garbage transportation vehicles were deployed at each of the 230 cleaning drive locations, ensuring that the collected garbage was efficiently transported to the processing facilities. Different types of waste, including MSW, C&D, and horticulture waste, were directed to appropriate facilities such as MRF, C&D plant, and composting sites, emphasizing the city’s dedication to a sustainable future.

City Mayor Sh. Anup Gupta extended gratitude to all the individuals, organizations, departments, schools, NGOs, and citizens who actively participated in these initiatives. Their passion, enthusiasm, and unwavering dedication have contributed towards making Chandigarh cleaner, greener, and safer for everyone.
