Shiyana, a UGC – Research Fellowship in Sciences for meritorious students (RFSMS) fellow pursuing PhD under the supervision of Prof. Kanwaljit Chopra, Chairperson, University Institute Pharmaceutical Sciences (UIPS), and Professor, Pharmacology Division, UIPS, Panjab University has brought laurels to the name of the University. She was awarded the prestigious European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO) Short Term Fellowship (€ 6252.00) for a period of 3 months from 15 January to 15 April 2019 to conduct circadian research at the Department of Neurohumoral Regulations, Czech Academy of Sciences, Prague, Czech Republic. The fellowship included subsistence and travel allowance.
She studied the impact of constant artificial light and food intake in the night time on our biological clock in rat brain and ileum. Her research work elucidated the importance of minimizing the exposure to artificial light in the night time and restricting the food intake during the daytime for our good health.

IAS Centre, Panjab University conducted mock interviews for the candidates of PCS Executive and Assistant Commandant, Central Armed Police Forces on 15th May. The panellists for the mock interviews comprised of Lt. Gen. PK Grover, former Chief Western Command, Dr. Krishan Mohan, former Home Secretary, Haryana, Prof. Anil Monga, Prof. Parmjit Kaur, Director, IAS Centre and Dr. Shruti Bedi, Coordinator, IAS Centre.
The candidates were suitably interviewed and grilled for the upcoming interviews. The were asked questions on the situation existing in Punjab and the issues confronting the bureaucracy in the State. The candidates for the Police Forces were questioned about the role of police and on the reasons of the problems being faced by the police forces.
Each candidate was interviewed for at least half an hour. They were also give feedback as to how to improve their presentation and answers. The candidates greatly benefited from the session. These interviews being conducted by the IAS Centre, Panjab University is the second in the series.

चंडीगढ़: सेक्टर-34 स्थित रैली ग्राउंड में आयोजित रैली में पीएम नरेंद्र मोदी ने कहा कि एनर्जेटिक चंडीगढ़ में जोश बता रहा है कि एक बार मोदी सरकार।
इसका कारण साफ है देश मजबूर सरकार नहीं मजबूत सरकार चुन रहा है। देश फेमिली फस्ट के बजाय इंडिया फस्ट को चुन रहा है। देश आतंकी हमलों के बाद दुबकने वालों को नहीं आतंकियों को घर में घुसकर मारने वालों को चुन रहा है।
प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी लोकसभा चुनाव 2019 के सातवे और अंतिम चरण के चुनाव प्रचार के लिए एड़ी चोटी का जोर लगा रहे हैं।
पीएम मोदी ने आज पंजाब के चंडीगढ़ में एक सार्वजिनक रैली को संबोधित करते हुए कांग्रेस पर जमकर निशाना साधा है।
पीएम मोदी ने कांग्रेस नेता सैम पितोद्रा को निशाने पर लेते हुए कहा कि जब मध्य वर्ग के लोग मुद्रास्फीति के कारण में थे, कांग्रेस सोचती थी ‘हुआ तो हुआ’।
पीएम ने आगे कहा कि कांग्रेस ‘नामदार’ कहते थे कांग्रेस एक विचारधारा है। अब नामदार के गुरु ने खुलासा किया है कि कांग्रेस की विचारधारा ‘हुआ तो हुआ’ है।
मिडिल क्लास और ईमानदार टैक्स पेयर्स का कांग्रेस ने हमेशा अपमान किया है। जबकि हमारी सरकार ने मिडिल क्लास को सम्मान दिया है।

इसके बाद गुजरात में तूफान खड़ा हुआ तो कांग्रेस ने उस नेता को पार्टी से निकाल दिया, लेकिन बाद में फिर उन्हें अपने साथ जोड़ दिया।
अब तक वह फिर ताल ठोककर कहने लगे हैं कि उन्होंने जो कुछ कहा वह ठीक कहा। मोदी ने कहा कि जब यह भ्रष्टाचार करते थे तो कांग्रेस सोचती थी हुआ तो हुआ।
रैली को लेकर चंडीगढ़ पुलिस एसएसपी शशांक आनंद के नेतृत्व में स्पेशल सिक्योरिटी, ट्रैफिक व्यवस्था और सभी थाना प्रभारियों की ड्यूटी लगाई गई है।
पुलिस द्वारा स्पेशल नाकेबंदी कर चेकिंग की जा रही है। पीएम के आने-जाने तक आसपास किसी भी संदिग्ध या बिना अनुमति वाले को फटकने भी नहीं दिया जाएगा।
हालांकि, पीएम सिक्योरिटी की पूरी जिम्मेदारी एसपीजी टीम के पास होगी।

The World federation of Orthodontics has proclaimed May 15 as World Orthodontic Health Day, a day that orthodontists around the world can celebrate and highlight orthodontics. This day marks the signing of WFO’s charter in 1995 during the 4th International Orthodontic Congress in San Francisco.

The Syndicate discussed at length the recommendations of the committee constituted for fees structure (Tuition fees and otherUniversity charges) in the University Teaching Departments andRegional Centres of PU for the Session 2019-20. The Syndicate formed a committee for rationalisation of fee structure. The matter will, thereafter be taken directly to the Senate for approval.
The Syndicate discussed at length the recommendations ofthe committee constituted for fees structure (Tuition fees and otherUniversity charges) in the University Teaching Departments andRegional Centres of PU for the Session 2019-20. The Syndicate formed a committee for rationalisation of fee structure. The matter will, thereafter be taken directly to the Senate for approval.
The Syndicate approved the recommendations regarding rules of promotion policy/relaxation of time period for promotion of laboratory and technical staff of Panjab University.
The Syndicate approved grant of Paternity Leave to the College teachers. The Syndicate approved in principle the recommendations of the committee regarding increase in number of seats/additional/new courses in various departments of Panjab University from the academic session 2019-20, except-self financed Ph.d Programme (UIPS), where, the Syndicate recommended for exploring industry sponsorship for the course. Fees rationalisation will be done before the implementation of the same.
The Syndicate approved appointment of Dr. Anish Slath, Assistant Professor as Director at University Institute of Hotel and Tourism Management for the period of 3 years.
The Syndicate approved introduction of BA (Hons) and B.Com(Hons) courses in the Department of Evening Studies-Multi Disciplinary Research Centres w.e.f. the academic session 2019-20.
