Commissioner reviews issues and works of MCC

Chandigarh, August 5: – Sh. K.K. Yadav, IAS, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh today issued directions to all the branches of MCC for compiling service matters for restructuring of employee strength in the offices.

During the Monday review meeting the Commissioner asked the branch heads of different wings to prepare details of court cases of service matters pending and put up all service matters for restructuring according to the guidelines of Chandigarh Administration. He said that this should be done in campaign mode and process the case at the earliest.

The commissioner asked for status of other issues including progress on online fire NOCs, biometric attendance devices, GPS system on all vehicles, shifting of sanitation workers to the Horticulture wing, lifting of horticulture waste from the parks maintained by RWAs, daily report of operation & functional report of C&D waste plant alongwith maintaining daily stock register, status of renovation of cremation ground at industrial area, Ph-I, status of Petrol pump sites, report of mobile workshops in roads division, status of levying entertainment tax.

The commissioner directed the concerned officers to create revenue branch which will look after all type of works related to revenue and receipts. The commissioner directed all the concerned officers/officials to deposit checks received in shape of earnest money or others within 3 days after receiving it failing which responsibility be fixed of the concerned officer/officials and interest of the same be charged from their salary.

Mayor & Commissioner opens AC halls at cremation ground; reviews other works

Chandigarh, August 5: – Sh. Rajesh Kumar, Mayor of Chandigarh and Sh. K.K. Yadav, IAS, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh today visited the newly constructed AC halls which were opened today to the general public at cremation ground, Sector 25.

Accompanied by Sh. Manoj Bansal, Chief Engineer, Sh. Sanjay Arora, SE, B&R and other concerned officers of MCC, the Mayor and Commissioner reviewed the ongoing work of construction of shed at number 5, cremation site for making weather proof arrangement at cremation ground for up-gradation of facilities at cremation ground and also reviewed the ongoing work of construction of shed for wood piles.

They inspected the newly provided AC halls having dimension 24’x0”x78’-0” and have 5 air conditioners having capacity of 2 tons in each hall, which can be booked from cremation ground authorities. They also instructed the concerned officers for providing and arranging proper sitting at the cremation ground site. The Commissioner also instructed them to provide garbage disposal bins in different locations and construction of footpath behind the AC halls.

MCC to welcome “Sikh Jatha” coming from Nankana Sahib on 9th August

Chandigarh, August 5: – The Municipal Corporation Chandigarh is going to welcome the “Sikh Jatha” coming from Nankana Sahib on 9th August, 2019 outside Parade Ground, Sector 17, Chandigarh.

This was decided in a meeting of the implementation committee constituted for planning the activities of 550th birth anniversary of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji, held here today under the chairmanship of Sh. Hardeep Singh and attended by other members of the committee namely Sh. Jagtar Singh, Sh. Mahesh Inder Singh, Smt. Ravinder Kaur, Maj. Gen. M.S. Kandal, all councilors and concerned officers of MCC Sh. Tilak Raj, HCS, Additional Commissioner, Sh. Shelender Singh, SE, Public Health, Sh. Sanjay Arora, SE, B&R, Dr. Amrit Pal Singh, MOH, Sh. Krishan Pal Singh, Executive Engineer, Horticulture and others.

The committee discussed and decided that as a part of celebration of 550th birth anniversary of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji, a welcome programme will be organized by the MCC on 9th August, 2019 at 5.00 pm near Parade Ground, Sector 17, Chandigarh. The committee decided that a welcome gate will be provided and a stall for distribution of refreshment will be placed near to the welcome gate. The committee also decided to deploy sanitation staff to clean the route in city before the “Jatha” passes and post procession so that proper cleanliness be maintained.

The committee decided that flags and welcome banners will be displayed throughout the route from entry into the city. The committee also decided to clean the route through water sprinklers and with road sweeping machines. The committee asked the engineers of horticulture division for required pruning of tree branches wherever required in the route throughout city.

MC to Celebrate Teej on 11th August

Chandigarh, August 5: – The Municipal Corporation Chandigarh is going to organize one day ‘Teej’ programme on 11th August, 2019 at Cactus Garden, Ram Darbar, Chandigarh.

This was decided in a meeting of Arts, Culture & Sports Committee, MCC held here today under the chairpersonship of Smt. Sunita Dhawan and attended by other members of the committee namely Smt. Kamla Sharma, Sh. Ravi Kant Sharma, Sh. Shakti Parkash Devshali, Sh. Bharat Kumar and concerned officers of MCC. Sh. Rajesh Kumar, Mayor of Chandigarh has also attended the meeting as special invitee.

The committee discussed and decided that during the Teej mela various Punjabi folk singers including local artists with other singers will perform and village profile/Heritage style collections of Punjab and Haryana will be the main attractions of the Festival. Mehandi Stalls, Phulkari and Painting exhibitions and folk dances and songs will be held during the Festival. Antakshari programme will also be organized during the Teej function in which students will also participate.

This time citizens will have look of traditional festival including Dholi, Madari, Biscope, potter wheel and inflatable characters including mickey mouse, chota bheem, motu-patlu and many more attractions. Magic shows and puppet shows will be showcased throughout the day.

Various programmes will be organized during the Teej including  mehandi stalls, layout of teean, Rangan di varkha, solo and group folk song, teean de geet, kikli, giddha, rajasthani dance, Haryanvi dance, performances by MCC artists, Dholak, Ghara, charkha geet, choreographic group folk dance.

International Conference at PU

Chandigarh August 5, 2019 

One day International Conference on Commercial Arbitration And Its Magnitude With Special Reference To India As An Emerging Hub was organized by Centre For Trade Laws And Dispute Resolution (CTDR) University Institute of Legal Studies in association with Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution, University of Pepperdine, California conducted at University Institute of Legal Studies(UILS), Panjab University, Chandigarh. 
       

Professor Rattan Singh Director, UILS, welcomed the dignitaries and inspired the future litigants in the field of arbitration.
       

A book titled Mediation and Negotiation in Trade and Commercial Conflicts(An Indian Perspective) published by Thomson Reuters and edited by Prof.(Dr.) Rajinder Kaur, Faculty Coordinator, was released by the dignitaries during the conference. She addressed the theme of the conference i.e. Commercial Arbitration and Its Magnitude With Special Reference To India As An Emerging Hub.  She highlighted the intricacies of arbitration in different sectors and how India can be made a choice for the same. 


         In the keynote address, Mr. Amarjit Singh Chandhiok, Senior Advocate and Ex-Additional Solicitor General of India, Supreme Court of India redefined arbitration as an appropriate arbitration instead of alternative arbitration. In his address, he also traced different phases of arbitration since 1940s to present scenario. He proficiently elaborated on the challenges of international arbitration and domestic arbitration by citing many cases. He insisted the fact that mediation comes first before arbitration.


  Dr. Sukhsimranjit Singh, Managing Director, Straus Institute of Dispute Resolution, Pepperdine School of Law, California differentiated three levels of arbitration, including three aspects of arbitration from past (one should learn from 
India’s judicial system of Panchayat, Khap Panchayat and Lok Adalats), citing examples from present and aspiring a bright future of Indian Arbitrators. 


        Mr. Harcharan Singh, Chairman, Debt Recovery Tribunal, Chandigarh encouraged the students of UILS to pursue arbitration as a lucrative occupation especially in India.


        The two technical sessions, later on were further divided into four different tracks. In session 1  Track-1 (Arbitration in India) was chaired by Prof. Sukesh C. Sharma , Track 2 (Arbitration in Different Sectors) by Prof. S.K. Tomar, Track 3 
(International Commercial Arbitration) by Prof. Sarabjeet Kaur, Track 4 by Prof Rattan Singh. In session II, Track 1, (Arbitration in India), was chaired by Prof. Emanual Nahar, Track 2 (Arbitration in Different Sectors) was chaired by Prof. Sangita Bhalla, Track 3 (International Commercial Arbitration) by Prof. S.K.Tomar and Prof. Sukesh C. Sharma.       

 Prof. Daljit Singh, Vice Chancellor at Rayat Bahra University and Senior Faculty were also present. 
 

More than fifty scholars from eminent law universities and colleges presented their papers.

Ms. Simranpreet Kaur Bhalla topped Anthropology Examination

 Ms. Simranpreet  Kaur Bhalla stood first in the MSc (Hons. School) Anthropology 2019 examination conducted by Panjab University. She has got 1799 marks out of 2000 in the examination. She will be awarded “Dewan Bahadur Wali Ram Taneja Gold Medal for standing first in this examination. According to Dr. Kewal Krishan, Chairperson of the Department, Ms Bhalla had also topped in the BSc (Hons. School) in the year 2017 and was awarded SRK Chopra Gold Medal in the recently held University convocation.  She has been one of the most promising students and always performed every academic and extracurricular activities of the department.

A special interactive session of Post-Doctoral Fellows (PDFs) of Panjab University, Chandigarh

 A special interactive session of Post-Doctoral Fellows (PDFs) of Panjab University, Chandigarh was held today with Sh. Ajay Gupta, Director (Research), ICSSR, New Delhi. He discussed and highlighted various schemes of ICSSR where several grants worth lacs are available to faculty members and research scholars of universities.

            A presentation given by Sh. Gupta revealed that the rejection rate of Post-Doctoral Fellowships, Doctoral Fellowships and other national Fellowships offered by ICSSR is very high because the emphasis is on approving high quality research work by the body.

  “Our aim is that more and more researchers and teaching faculty can make use of the grants and schemes offered by ICSSR. There are new schemes and projects that can be applied for and our website is extremely friendly,” said Sh. Gupta.

The Dean of University Instructions (DUI) and officiating Vice Chancellor, Prof. Shankarji Jha, Dean of Student Welfare (DSW) Prof Emanual Nahar were present at the occasion.

“I am immensely happy to see that the PDF forum in PU is doing great work and organising constructive activities for welfare of all researchers,” said Prof. Emanuel.

 Seminar Convenor Dr. Pulakes Purkait, Department of Anthropology thanked the PDFs and University officials for supporting the activities of forum.

Other Professors present at the seminar included Prof. Devinder Singh, Prof. Sanjay Kaushik, Prof. Sanjeev Sharma and Dr. Prabhdip Brar.

The session was attended by PDFs, PhDs and other students of PU campus and was organised by PDF Academic Forum and UIFT.

 Panjab University Alumni Association in collaboration with Social Substance organized a counselors meeting and counseling session for the girls on Aug 3, 2019. The meet was attended by Ms. Neelam Dhamija, Ms. Y.K. Sharma, Ms. Kamal Malhi, Ms. Shubha Nehra, Ms. Anaya Poonam, Ms. Iti Sarin,  Ms. Shikha Bansal, Mr. Susihl Hindustani and
Dr. Arun Bansal.

            Ms. Dhamija and Ms. Sharma are both experienced and veteran counselors visiting various government schools of Chandigarh. Ms. Malhi is trained counselor who heals by holistic methods including meditation. Ms. Shubha Nehra is expert of food and wellness programs. Ms. Anaya Poonam works with drug addicts at National Level. Ms. Iti works with sports’ persons for their counseling needs. Ms. Shikha Bansal is an educator and self-motivated volunteer. Mr. Sushi Hindustani running his own channel project talents of individuals using youtube channel. Dr. Arun Bansal who coordinated the event is an educator, trained & experienced guide.

The event was quite successful and met entirely with objectives. It was decided unanimously that society by large need counseling sessions at various stages. Panjab University being house of thousands of people including students and resident is an ideal place to start with current line of action. It was consented that this initiative should reach to various girls’ hostels of PU and Alumni House should remain hub for counselor’s meet and specialized one to
one counseling. It was expected that every week counseling sessions would be organized at Panjab University, especially for girls.

            Dr. Arun Bansal proposed the vote of thanks and expressed gratitude toward Prof. Deepti Gupta, Dean Alumni Relations, PU for providing extensive support to such an important and much needed activity.
