Weekly Ward Level Meeting of MCC held

Chandigarh, July 30:- 

The weekly ward level meeting of Municipal Corporation Chandigarh was held under the chairmanship of Sh. Rajesh Kumar, Mayor of Chandigarh which was attended by councilors namely Sh. Shakti Parkash Devshali, Sh. Gurpreet Singh Dhillon, Sh. Davesh Moudgil, Sh. Bharat Kumar, Sh. Anil Kumar Dubey and Sh. Jagtar Singh Jagga of Ward No. 20, 21, 22, 23, 24 and 25 respectively.

During the meeting, Sh. Manoj Kumar Bansal, Chief Engineer, Superintending Engineers, Executive Engineers and other concerned officers were present. During the meeting different following issues of ward wise discussed in detail:

Ward-20

·        Work of providing cement concrete road repair infront of EWS houses at sector 29-B be started.

·        Repair work of street roads at Tribune colony, Sector 29-D be started.

·        Road recarpetting work at ward No.20 be started immediate after monsoon season.

·        Water supply problem be resolved in industrial area Ph-I.

·        Low pressure water supply problem be checked in triple story houses in sector 29-B and resolved at the earliest.

·        Road gullies be cleaned in industrial area Ph-I and permanent solution be explored in the areas where water logging has been reported.

·        Sewerage disposal system be strengthened in sector 29-B.

·        Encroachment made by junk dealers in industrial area Ph-I be checked and removed.

·        Proper sanitation, grass cutting and bush cutting and dustbins provided in the parks be cleaned on regular basis.

Ward -21

·        Malba scattered in the road sides be lifted and proper cleaning be done in road berms in sector 46.

·        Road gullies be cleaned in V-4 road, sector 46.

·        Encroachment made by Junk dealer in rehri market, sector 46 be removed.

·        Lights provided in the parks at sector 46 be checked and made functional.

·        Open junction boxes of street lights be properly covered and replaced wherever required.

·        Paver blocks/tiles be lifted, which have been uprooted for creating breathing space to the trees in all the road sides.

Ward-22

·        Road dividing sectors 31/47 be repaired/recarpetted where road cut was allowed to avoid any kind of accident.

·        Carpeting of parking area at open air theater, sector 48.

·        Estimate of development of green belt at sector 31 C be located and executed at the earliest.

·        Road berms be cleaned and Sehaj Safai Kendra be cleaned regular basis.

·        Parks be cleaned daily and waste from dustbins be lifted regularly.

·        Work of providing lights in identified dark spots be executed at the earliest.

·        List of road gullies in the ward 22 be prepared and put put up in the next meeting.

·        Provision of UGR at community Centre sector 47 be made alongwith provision of water tanks.

·        Timings of water supply hours of industrial phase-I & II be changed as the industries and shops are being opened generally after 9.00 am and closed at 6.00 pm.

·        Illegal water connections in booth markets be checked and unmetered connections be tapped immediately.

·        Provision of grease chambers in sewerage lines be made.

·        Work of UGR be expedite at sector 48 infront of Kendriya vihar society.

·        Road berms and varandahs at sector 48 and industrial area Ph-II be cleared from encroachments.

Ward-23

·        Water supply be maintained regularly at Ramdarbar colony.

·        Street lights at Ramdarbar be checked and repaired.

·        Street lights damaged due to road cut at faidan village be repaired immediately.

·        Possibility be explored to construct the V-3 road with cement concrete at Ramdarbar.

·        Provision of High Mast light at cactus garden, Ramdarbar.

·        Encroachments made by washing and service centres at Hallomajra be removed.

·        Illegal junk dealer shops be removed from houses at Ramdarbar.

·        Proper cleanliness of road berms and parks be ensured at Hallomajra and Ramdarbar.

·        Cow dung be removed from the streets and open spaces at Ramdarbar.

·        Road towards village Behlana be cleaned properly.

·        Stray cattle menace be checked at Ramdarbar and appropriate steps be taken in this regard.

Ward-24

·        Damaged road be checked, where road cut was permitted recently and strengthening of the road be ensured at vikas nagar.

·        Remaining tile work and provision of toe wall be executed around open space near market at vikas nagar.

·        Status of renovation of community centre Vikas Nagar be put up.

·        Provision of track at park at vikas nagar and development of green belt by providing shallow tubewell.

·        Maintenance and paint work of curb channels at roads in vikas nagar.

·        Work of covering open nullah by RCC at NAC be completed at the earliest.

·        Provision of UGR at vikas nagar be expedite at earliest.

·        Gen sets provided at tubewells be kept ready and in working condition.

·        Toilet blocks in booth market at vikas nagar be cleaned regularly.

·        Drinking water supply be strengthened at Mauli complex.

·        Providing IC chamber work be completed at the earliest.

·        Remaining work of providing lights in the parks be started at the earliest.

·        Unauthorized slaughtering be checked at Mauli Jagran and vikas nagar and strict legal action be taken against the violators.

·        Cattle menace be checked and cattle catching drives be held on regular basis.

·        Encroachments be removed from the road berms and open spaces at road sides from vikas nagar.

Ward-25

·        Remaining work of road recarpetting at main market, old roper road at Manimajra be completed at the earliest.

·        Remaining tile work at streets in Shanti nagar be checked and completed as per the revised plan.

·        Proper survey be conducted in regard to strengthen the sewerage disposal system at Manimajra especially at Madi wala town.

·        Sehaj Safai Kendra be renovated and new SSK be provided near school at Manimajra.

·        Tractor trollys be deployed regularly to lift malba from the area of Manimajra.

·        Safaikarmacharis be provided as per norms and in proper strength as per previous system to maintain the cleanliness.

·        Encroachment by junk dealers near water booster at Shanti nagar be removed.

·        The work of providing lights at identified dark spots be started at the earliest.

‘Each One Plant One’ initiative taken forward at UIAMS,PU and NSS volunteers

Chandigarh July 30, 2019

The students, staff and faculty of University Institute of Applied Management Sciences (UIAMS) under the Directorship of Prof.Upasna Joshi Sethi and NSS volunteers of Panjab University, Chandigarh headed by Programme Coordinator, Prof.Navdeep Sharma and mentored by Programme Officer, Dr.Anupreet Kaur Mavi and Dr.Manjushri Sharma organized a tree plantation drive, here today.

 The 100 flowering shrubs used for beautification of the campus were donated by Mr. Rahul Mahajan, a philanthrophist and an environment lover. The drive was conducted in collaboration with Horticulture Department of Panjab University under the leadership of Mr.Anil Thakur and his team.

Sawan celebrations at GH-3, PU

Chandigarh July 30, 2019

 The advent of Sawan was observed by the residents and staff of Sarojini Hall, Girls Hostel no. 3, Panjab University, Chandigarh at its colorful best. The celebration began in the morning with a pious hawan yagya performed in the premises of hostel followed by prashad distribution among the residents.

            In the evening, the occasion was charmed with many fun and frolic activities. Prof. Emanual Nahar, Dean Student Welfare (DSW), Prof. Neena Caplash, DSW(W) were the Chief Guests.

            A plantation and pot adoption fete was held to encourage residents to plant more trees and take care of these plantations thereafter. Department of Horticulture, Panjab University, donated Hibiscus plants and Department of Environment, Paryavaran Bhavan, Sec-19, donated shrubs like Bougainvillea and other pot plants to the Hostel.

The residents were made aware of the plantation concepts alien to them before, like manure and soil preparation and how to take care of plants in a proper way. Dean Student Welfare also adopted plants along with residents and wardens of other hostels. The hostel family also took a step forward to reduce the traffic congestion in University by Bicycle stand inauguration in GH3 hostel. These bicycles were donated to the hostel under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds of University. In addition to these, Kheer- Malpua and barbecued Corncobs added more flavors to the jovial season and were served. The event was concluded with a vote of thanks given by Dr. Ravneet Kaur, Warden, Girls Hostel-3.

Plantation Drive at PU

Chandigarh July 30, 2019

A plantation drive was held in the Department of Sanskrit, Panjab University, Chandigarh here today.  Around 30 plants were planted on this occasion by the students of M.A 1st, 3rd Semester and Research Scholars in the presence of teaching and non-teaching staff in the ground of Arts Block -I.  The staff of Horticulture Department of Panjab University were also present at the time of plantation to guide and help the students. Each individual plant was adopted by the students of the department.

PU Syndicate Meeting

Chandigarh July 30, 2019 

PU Syndicate in its meeting today took up 25 Agenda Items out of the listed 30 items. Prof. Raj Kumar, Vice Chancellor, Panjab University, Chandigarh at the outset informed the house about his ill health and said that because of academic importance of various issues, he is taking up the meeting. In view of this, the Registrar was requested to read out the VC’s statement.


  The Syndicate approved the agreement between Panjab University and the private hospitals to provide cashless treatment facilities to PU employees. The six city hospitals include Indus Hospital, Mohali, Grecian Hospital, Mohali, JPI Hospital, Mohali, Shalby Hospital, Mohali, Max Hospital, Mohali, Ivy Hospital Mohali and one hospital in Ludhiana namely Bassi Nursing Home.

The Syndicate approved discontinuation of Master of Arts i.e. MA (Part-I History) in phased manner from the Session 2019-20 at Guru Teg Bahadur National College, Dakha, District Ludhiana. 


        The Syndicate approved of introduction of Certificate Course in Vedic Studies in the Department of Dayanand Chair for Vedic Studies w.e.f. the Academic Session 2019-20.


        The Syndicate approved the appointment of the Registrar, Prof. Karamjeet Singh as Returning Officer for the Election of Ordinary Fellows-2020. 


 Since VC was unwell, he adjourned the Syndicate Meeting sine die after taking up 25 items. The balance items shall be taken up in the next meeting

Vice-Chancellor Statement

Chandigarh July 30, 2019


1.      With a deep sense of sorrow, I may inform the honourable members of the Syndicate about the sad demise of:
i)      S. Balwant Singh Grewal, father of Prof.  Ramanjit K. Johal, Dept. of Public Administration on 25th July, 2019
ii)     Smt. Kaushalya Paresh, mother of Dr. Latika Sharma, Dept. of Education on 25th July, 2019  (To pay homage to the departed souls, two minutes silence, all standing, may be observed).

2.      I am pleased to inform the honourable members of the Syndicate that:
(i)     Prof. Sudhir Kumar, Department of Evening Studies-Multidisciplinary Research Centre, P.U., has been nominated as a member of the School of Literature/Comparative Literature and Cultural Studies at prestigious Mahatma Gandhi Antarrashtriya Hindi 
Vishwa Vidyalaya, Wardha.
(ii)    The UIPS has brought laurels to the University as follows:
(a)     Ms. Ranjot Kaur, Research Scholar, under the guidance of Prof. Bhupinder Singh Bhoop, UIPS, has prepared anti-bacterial and anti-fungal medicine for the treatment of lung infection.
(b)     Prof. B.S. Bhoop, UIPS, was specially included in a Committee formed under the Drug Controller General of India to make changes in the old Drug and Cosmetics Act.
(c)     Prof. Indu Pal Kaur, UIPS, has secured Rs. 5.5 crore funding from government agencies and Rs. 77 lakh from industrial consultancies.

(iii)   Prof. Seema Kapoor, UICET has been selected for Distinguished Faculty in Engineering Award in 5th Faculty Awards-VIFA 2019.
(iv)    The students of University have brought laurels for the University as follows:
(a)     Nina Chandel, student of MCA, Panjab University won the BRONZE MEDAL in 10 Mtr. Air Rifle Women Team Event at 30th SUMMER UNIVERSIADE – 2019, held at Napoli, Italy from 3rd to 14th July 2019.
(b)     Five students namely Priyanka Kairon, Aayush Gupta, Navjot Kaur Sandhu, Varinder Singh Khosa and Karan Singh Sandhu of the IAS Coaching Centre, P.U., have been selected as PCS Executive Officers. 
(c)     10 students of UILS have been selected as Metropolitan Magistrates in the Delhi Judicial Services Exam 2019. 
(d)     Five research scholars from the Department of English & Cultural Studies have been selected by the HPSC-AP recruitment 2019.
(e)     A record number of students from different departments have cleared UGC NET/JRF exam this year. 
It is indeed a matter of pride for the University to see their students shining.

(v)     Dr. Rohit Sharma, Chairperson, Department of Microbial Biotechnology, P.U., was successfully granted a patent entitled ‘Lipase/esterase-catalyzed synthesis of alkyl esters by transesterification (2019)’ for a term of 20 years in accordance with the provisions of the Patent Act, 1970
(vi)    Department of Geography, P.U., has been awarded a prestigious collaborative research project titled ‘Capacity Building for Policy and Planning in Kenya, Tanzania and India. The project carries an award of CAN $2,98,000. Under this project, four students will visit Canada for three months each over two years starting from Sept., 2019 until Summer 2021. 
(vii)   As many as 34,369 candidates registered for admission in various courses for 5311 (approx.) seats in P.U. till the last day for online registration process i.e. 10th July, 2019.
(viii)  A team of six students from UIET, won the 1st Prize in the Smart India Hackathon 2019 – Hardware Edition held at IIT Hyderabad from July 8 to 12. They were awarded a cash prize of Rs. 50,000/-.
(ix)    Prof. Deepti Gupta, Department of English & Cultural Studies, has been selected by USIEF for Fulbright-Nehru Award Programme from Oct. 5-19, 2019 in the United States.

NTU team visits PU

Chandigarh July 30, 2019 

 Panjab University has a thriving MoU with Nottingham Trent University, UK where both the Universities are partnering in various fields. To take this collaboration further Professor Cillian Ryan, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, and Ms. Vidhi Sahae, Regional Partnerships Coordinator (South Asia, ASEAN and Australia), Nottingham Trent University (NTU) visited Panjab University, here today and met Prof. Raj Kumar, Vice Chancellor, Panjab University, Chandigarh. Prof Kumar had initiated discussion on some themes of common interest during his visit to NTU, UK last month. He stressed the need for establishing linkages through research projects, faculty exchange, sharing of knowledge and material resources and envisaged a sustainable long term relationship between the two institutions. 

 Prof Rayan expressed an interest in the following areas: Connections with NTU’s new Enterprise and Innovation Centre, collaboration in the area of Yoga and Meditation, sports engagement in Hockey, Research partnership in Science and 
Engineering, cancer research, bio medical sciences, pharmacology, forensic sciences, law, fashion technology etc.

They appreciated the Student Mobility programs with PU, being coordinated by Professor Nandita Singh, Dean International Students, in which Students from University Institute of Applied Management Sciences and University Institute of Legal Studies are attending 2019 Global Summer School at NTU and students from NTU will be visiting Panjab University in September, 2019, and looked forward to more such programs in future. 

 Faculty from various departments was invited to interact and propose interdisciplinary themes.

 Those present included Prof. R.K. MCC tree plantation drive in Sector 42

Chandigarh, July 29:-

 Sh. Shashank Aanand, SSP, Traffic, Chandigarh and Sh. Hardeep Singh, Senior Deputy Mayor and area councillor today started the tree plantation drive at park in Sector 42, Chandigarh, in the presence office bearers of resident welfare association and local residents of area.

They planted saplings of medicinal plants, ornamental shrubs and fruit bearing trees in the park. The Senior Deputy Mayor asked the concerned engineers of Horticulture wing, MCC to provide proper safeguards to the plants and their proper upkeep.
