Women Empowerment Committee Meeting held

Chandigarh, August 21:- A meeting of Women Empowerment Committee was held here today under the chairpersonship of Smt. Asha Jaswal and attended by other members including Smt. Sunita Dhawan, Dr. Jyotsna Wig, Smt. Sheela Devi, Smt. Gurbax Rawat, Smt. Chanderwati Shukla and special invitees namely Smt. Harjeet Kaur, DSP (Traffic & Security), UT Police, Smt. Manjeet Kaur Sandhu, Legal Adviser and Smt. Aanchal, Advocate.

During the meeting following issues related to women were discussed in detail:

·        Workshop on sexual harassment at workplace will be conducted.

·        Ward wise legal aid seminars will be organized on rights & duties of women.

·        Seminars and nukkar nataks will be organized on moral values and other similar themes.

·        Motivational talk sessions will be conducted especially explaining the roots of Indian culture.

·        Promotion activities regarding wearing of helmet by two wheeler drivers especially women drivers.

·        Provision of training of driving to the women in regard to create livelihood options.

·        Seminars regarding domestic violence against women.

·        Sub panels be constituted to conduct survey in schools, colleges, civil dispensaries taking the issues of personal hygiene and sexual harassment at workplace.

·        Explore possibility of organizing women Mayor’s conference at Chandigarh.

·        To made Mahila Bhawan functional suggestion will be taken from different women stakeholder organizations.

·        Steps to be taken to make the city violence free.

·        Collaboration with State Legal Authority to organize awareness camps against the violence.

·        Action plan be prepared focused on activities to be initiated immediately, middle term and long term basis.

·        Every MCC councilor will be involved to incorporate women issues & policies in their ward development agenda.

·        Option be explored to provide education to the girl beggers and awareness in regard to their safety & security.

·        Roles & reservations of urban local bodies will be planned in regard to sustainable development goal.

·        Process be started to get registration in Beijing conference scheduled to be held in Bangkok during November this year.

·        Provision of crèche in the MCC building alongwith facility of child specialist for day care of wards of women employees.

Mayor flags off door to door segregation of garbage at Dariya & Mauli Jagra

Chandigarh, August 21:- Sh. Rajesh Kumar, Mayor and Sh. K.K. Yadav, IAS, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh today flagged off 11 vehicles to carry out the door to door collection of waste in segregated manner at village Dariya and Mauli Jagran. They were accompanied by Sh. S.K. Jain, Additional Commissioner and other senior officers of MCC and other prominent persons of the area during the launch.

           The Commissioner informed that these 11 vehicles will collect door to door waste in segregated manner i.e. wet and dry separately in different cabins from near about 7500 houses in Dariya and 3500 in Mauli Jagran.

He said that the Municipal Corporation has purchased 99 vehicles of 3.2 Cubic meter capacity to carry out the door to door collection of domestic waste in segregated manner. The dry and wet waste will be given by residents separately and will be collected in different compartment of the vehicles.

The commissioner informed that the Corporation is looking after mechanism to make compost from the wet waste in the villages itself immediate after collecting the garbage from the households. He said that 2 ton capacity or as per required capacity, composting machines will be planted and the compost made from the garbage will be used in the parks of the area.

          He said that 55 vehicles will be used for the 13 villages recently transferred to the Municipal Corporation and the remaining 44 vehicles will be used for the unattended areas of the city which are not being catered by private waste collectors. Remaining villages will be taken up for collection of segregated waste through these vehicles within this weekend.

           He said that earlier 33 vehicles have been deputed to collect Door to Door segregated waste from households at village Sarangpur and Khudda Jassu, Behlana, Raipur Khurd, Makhan Majra and Raipur Kalan, Kishangarh, Khudda Lahora and Maloya. Similarly, adequate number of Vehicles will be deputed in remaining villages by this weekend.

           During the programme, officers of MCC and gathered local area residents pledged for Segregation of wet and dry wast.

Sadbhavna Divas observed at PU

Chandigarh:

Prof. Shankarji Jha, Dean University Instructions and Officiating Vice Chancellor, observed Sadbhavna Divas here today.
Wherein, pledge was taken by all employees of VC office, DUI office and Dean Research and Special Officer to VC were present on the occasion.

Research Peace Award for PU Faculty

Chandigarh:

 Prof. Rajinder Jindal, Department of Zoology, Panjab University, Chandigarh has been awarded Research Peace Award 2019 as International Best Researcher in Limnology, Environmental Biology and Fish Toxicology by International Journal for Research under Literal Access(RULA) in association with World Research Council & United Medical Council, ceremony held on 15th August, 2019 at Hotel Breeze Residency, Trichy (Tamil Nadu).

2nd Day of Seminar

Chandigarh:

The second day of the seven days’ National Seminar-cum-Workshop on Inclusion: Moving Forward from 19th to 25th August 2019, organized by Centre for Academic Leadership and Education Management (CALEM), Department of Education, PU, Chandigarh in collaboration with Government Rehabilitation Institute for Intellectual Disabilities (GRIID) was initiated by Prof. Kuldeep Kaur who chaired the session and also introduced the resource person for the first technical session Dr. Wasim Ahmad, Assistant Professor, GRIID. 


        Dr. Ahmed dwelled on the need and importance of Universal Design for Learning (UDL).  He also emphasized that UDL can eliminate the barriers in the curriculum and can benefit all the learners, not only those with special needs. 


The second session entitled, “Reflection on Inclusion from the perspectives of RTE 2009, RPWD 2016 and DNEP 2019 by Prof. Virendra Kumar, former Dean, Faculty of Laws, PU. He initiated the talk through an article titled “Over the teachers” published in the Indian Express, wherein he deliberated upon the idea of how education could be used or is being used as a powerful tool for bringing about Inclusive Social Order.

        Prof. Sudesh Mukhopadhyay, former Chairperson of Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI) spoke intensively about the accommodations for being responsive and inclusive. She highlighted the difference between modification and accommodation and also emphasized how accommodation could help special kids to learn the same material 
which allows them to meet the expectations of the mainstream. 


        Dr. Himangshu Dass, Director, National Institute for Empowerment of Person with Multiple Disabilities, Chennai wherein he shared his experiences and highlighted the various experiments on inclusion in India. 


   All the sessions were very interactive and evoked pertinent questions by the participants which were explicated vividly by the experts. The sessions of day two concluded with the vote of thanks to all the resource persons by the program coordinator Prof. Raj K. Gupta.

PU VC meets Union Minister of State

Chandigarh:

 Prof. Raj Kumar, Vice Chancellor, Panjab University, Chandigarh met Sh. Somparkash Kainth, Union Minister of State (Commerce & Industry), today at New Delhi. He discussed various proposals regarding sanction of Developmental Grant for the upliftment of existing infrastructure to meet the contemporary developmental needs of this heritage institution of higher education. He also informed him that PU is most sought after University for North Eastern students and PU is considering special facilities for the same for which, extra grants are required. The Minister assured of all help.

आज सेक्टर 40 B के सरकारी स्कूल में बच्चों के लिए एक जागरूकता अभियान का आयोजन किया गया।

आज सेक्टर 40 B के सरकारी स्कूल में बच्चों के लिए एक जागरूकता अभियान का आयोजन किया गया। जिस में आटे, जों, राई और अन्य खाद्य पदार्थों में पाये जाने वाले ग्लूटेन प्रोटीन को ना पचा पाने से होने वाली बीमारी “सिलिएक” के बारे में बताया गया। इस अभियान में शहर के मेयर श्री राजेश कुमार, स्थानीय पार्षद श्रीमती गुरबक्श रावत, स्कूल की प्रिन्सिपल श्रीमती सरबजीत कौर व स्कूल मैनज्मेंट ने भाग लिया।

Weekly Ward Level Meeting of MCC held

Chandigarh, August 20:- The weekly ward level meeting of  Municipal Corporation Chandigarh was held under the Chairmanship of Sh. Rajesh Kumar, Mayor of Chandigarh which was attended by councilors namely Smt. Heera Negi, Smt. Ravinder Kaur, Sh. Rajesh Gupta, Smt. Asha Jaswal, Sh. Devinder Singh Babla, Sh. Dalip Sharma. Of Ward no. 13,15,16,17,18 and 19 respectively.

       During the meeting, Sh. Manoj Kumar Bansal, Chief Engineer, Superintending Engineers, Executive Engineers and other Concerned officers were present. The meeting following issues of ward wise discussed in details:

Ward-13

–         Patches on jogging track in the parks be checked and repaired.   

–         Boundary wall in sector 63 be checked and repaired.

–         Water leakage on v5 road in sector 49-D be checked and resolved.

–         Water leakage on Back side of Santoshi Mata Mandir be checked and repaired

–         Fountains in green belt be checked and repaired.

–         Footpath in neighborhood park in colony be checked and repaired.

Ward-15

–         Water logging in Sector 35 market and 34 be checked and resolved.

–         Old dark spot be checked and appropriate steps be taken.

–         High Mast light in Sector 44 park be checked and repaired.

–         Renovation of Community center in sector 44 betaken up.

–         Recarpeting of road in Sector 35 A and D.

–         Toe wall and railing in Sector 35 be checked and repaired.

Ward-16

–         Back Lanes be checked and cleaned on regular basis.

–         Furniture in community center sector 33 be repaired and provided.

–         Police colony sector 20 area be cleaned.

–         Malba scattered in sector 32 and 34 Chowk be lifted and proper cleaning be done.

–         Recarpeting of V5 road in sector 20 C&D.

–         Curb channels be cleaned.

–         Road gullies be checked and cleaned.

–         Tracks in sector 20 A be checked and repaired.

–         Green belts be cleaned on regular basis.

Ward-17

–         Pillar in sector 19 near #2094 be checked and repaired.

–         Tracks in green belt be repaired as per requirement.

–         Water logging in sector 21 be checked and cleaned.

–         Light poles in Sector 21 be fixed at earliest.

–         Neighborhood parks in Sector 19 be cleaned on regularly.

–         Backlane of sector 18,19&21 be cleaned.

–         Railing in the parks of sector 21 be checked and repaired.

–         Garbage be lifted on daily basis.

Ward-18

–         Toe wall in sector 27 & 28 be repaired.

–         Light Poles in the parks be repaired.

–         Back lane be cleaned on regular basis.

–         Gates of S.S.K in sector 27 & 28 be repaired.

–         Gates of parks be checked and repaired.

Ward-19

–         Dustbins in the ward be cleaned on regular basis.

–          sabji Mandi cleaned regularly.

–         Labor hostel in transport area be repaired at earliest.

–         Shortage of water in Bapu Dham colony be checked and resolved.

–         3 tubewells be checked and made functional.

–         Tenament quarter water problem be resolved at the earliest.

–         Doors, Railings and Toe wall in parks be repaired on priority.

–         Lights in the parks be checked.

–         Severage problem in Bapu Dham colony be checked and resolved.

–         LED lights be replaced wherever required.

–         Dark spots be checked in Bapu Dham colony.

–         Encroachments in transport area phase-2 be checked and removed.

110 saplings planted in Girls Hostel No. 6, PU

Chandigarh August 20, 2019 

A Tree Plantation drive was organised in Women Hostel No.6 (Mother Teresa Hall) in its premises under the guidance of Sh. Anil Thakur, Deputy Executive Engineer (Horticulture), Panjab University, Chandigarh.


 Prof. Emanual Nahar, Dean Student Welfare and Prof. Neena Caplash, Dean Student Welfare (W) planted the trees in the hostel alongwith the warden, Dr. Namita Gupta, staff members and residents. The wardens of other hostels were also present on this moment.

   Prof. Emanual Nahar  and Prof. Neena Caplash also inaugurated the fruit garden of the hostel. The fruit garden has been created to provide fruits to residents who cannot afford to purchase fruits from the market. 
       

The residents pledged to take care of these plants.
