Panjab University, SAIF/CIL holds webinar on National Education Policy-2020

The SAIF/CIL Panjab University Chandigarh organised a webinar on National Education Policy-2020 with special reference to Student Centric Teaching Learning. The session began with the introductory remarks of Prof GR Chaudhary, Director SAIF/CIL.

The Vice chancellor Panjab University Prof. Raj Kumar, the chief patron of the webinar appreciated and acknowledged the topic Student Centrcongratulated the panelist & speaker for selecting the right time for dispensing the knowledge on a very important topic National Education Policy 2020. The VC talked about providing access to the resources and focusing on the participation of students in implementing NEP 2020.

The speaker of the day was a very versatile and renowned personality in the field of higher education – Prof RL Raina, VC, JKLU Jaipur. His exemplary talk on this visionary document kept the virtual audience curious and completely engrossed throughout, as is the aim of this multidisciplinary policy. Prof Raina explicitly discussed the principles and various elements on which NEP 2020 rests. He beautifully cited the thin line between the terms use, misuse, overuse and underuse and discussed how this holistic and integrated policy aims at producing a complete human being and not just a professional. He highlighted the importance of teaching the students the art of “learning to learn” and rise above rote learning that just aims at securing marks. He addressed that our youth are our ambassadors and education needs to prepare them for life, for facing the world out there. Prof Raina shared an interesting and unique course named SEE (Social, Emotional and Ethical Learning) that he introduced in his JKL University, Jaipur last year. He not only highlighted the pros of NEP 2020, but critically analyzed it and brought into light the recognition to library resources that the policy failed to include.

He concluded his talk by reciting a short prayer from the book ‘Power of Positive Thinking’ by Norman Vincent Peale and appealed everyone to start acting on this visionary document with an enthusiastic approach, since it is your attitude that makes it look positive and doable.

PU VC attends GB Meeting of CEC

Commissioner visits Petrol Pump sites; reviews progress

Chandigarh, September 16:- Sh. K. K. Yadav, IAS, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh today visited the newly allotted Petrol pump sites to the MCC at Industrial area Phase-II and at sector 51-A, Chandigarh. He was accompanied by Sh. S.K. Jain, Additional Commissioner, Sh. Shailender Singh, Chief Engineer, Sh. Sanjay Arora, SE B&R and concerned officers of IOC.

During the visit, the Commissioner reviewed the ground level status of the construction activities for early opening and starting of these petrol pumps. The IOC officers and engineers of MCC assures for commissioning and opening of the petrol pump site at sector 51 A by 2nd October, 2020.

Commissioner visits grievance control call centre at Rose Club; reviews progress

Chandigarh, September 15:- Sh. K. K. Yadav, IAS, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh today visited the newly set up Grievance control call centre at Rose Club, Sector 16, here today. He was accompanied by Sh. Tilak Raj, Additional Commissioner and Sh. N.P. Sharma, Chief General Manager, Chandigarh Smart City Ltd.

During the visit, the Commissioner reviewed the progress of the grievance control call centre and asked the concerned officers to ensure its full operation within three to four days so that the same may be launched shortly to facilitate the citizens.

He said that this grievance control call centre will operate 24×7 and a dedicated team will work in this call centre to monitor the grievances of citizens in very prompt manner. He asked the concerned officers to ensure proper helping tools be provided to the officials in the team at call centre.

He said that this Grievance control call centre is being set up by the Chandigarh Smart City Ltd. and Municipal Corporation Chandigarh to provide smart and dedicated grievance redressal system to the citizens of Chandigarh at 24×7 operational timing to all Municipal related services.

IGNOU June, Term End Examination 2020 is going to commence from 17th September, 2020 and will conclude on 16th October, 2020 in the region.

The students may download the Hall Tickets from the University website (http://www.ignou.ac.in/ & https://ignouhall.ignou.ac.in/HallTickets/HALL0620/Hall0620.asp ) and appear in the examination.

Dr. Anil Kumar Dimri, Regional Director, IGNOU, Regional Center, Chandigarh informed that students are advised to be in possession of the valid Identity Card issued by the University at the time of admission during the examination. Under Regional Centre Chandigarh 5702 eligible students have been issued Hall Tickets for this examination who will be appearing in different Programmes.  IGNOU RC Chandigarh has deputed Observers for monitoring examination activities and monitoring team has also been deputed by IGNOU headquarter, New Delhi for the smooth conduct of Term End Examination in the region. IGNOU Regional Center Chandigarh has established 07 Examination Centers for TEE June, 2020 including 01 Exam Centers in Jail at Chandigarh for jail inmates.

Hall Ticket (Examination Intimation Slips) have been issued to Final Year/End Semester Masters, Bachelors, Diploma and Certificate Programmes (as per 22nd July, 2020 notification issued by the University) and who have applied and are found eligible for appearing in the Term-end Examination. 

The Examination Centres have been instructed to allow students to appear in examination, even if they do not possess the Hall Ticket (Examination Intimation Slips), but their names exist in the list of examinees for that centre.

During the entire period of examinations the examination centres will implement the social Distancing and other measures as per Government of India guidelines in current scenario of COVID-19 to ensure health and safety of the students.

Students are also required to adhere to the guidelines and maintain the social distancing and hygiene to ensure safety and health of their own and fellow students.

Students are advised to be in possession of the valid Identity Card issued by the University/Govt. during the Examination.   Mobile phones are not permitted inside the examination hall.

FDP by UICET for Enhancing the skills of faculty for better and effective conduct of virtual classes

Dr. SSBUICET, Panjab University, Chandigarh, in collaboration with DUIET, Assam organized a  6day Faculty Development Program under TEQIP-III (MHRD, Govt. of India) on an online platform which commenced today.. The title of the program is Effective Online Teaching and Learning and will have a panel discussion on New Education policy 2020 on the concluding day. This program is being organized in accordance with the UGC guidelines. The FDP has more than  450 registered participants from all over India. The objective of the program is to equip the faculty members with maximum skills to help them conduct the online classes without any issues. This will surely make the online teaching highly effective and interactive. Many resource persons who possess expertise in the field of teaching resources have been invited. Some of the sessions include lectures on using Google suite, Google Classroon,Online Assessment, Open Source Learning through SWAYAM etc. The coordinator of this program is Prof. Ritu Gupta and Dr. Sanjeev Gautam.

Webinar on Academic Writing and Qualitative Research: Steps and Strategies by PU

The Department of Library and Information Science, Panjab University, Chandigarh organised a webinar on Academic Writing and Qualitative Research: Steps and Strategies. Dr Bhaskar Mukherjee, Professor, DLIS, Banaras Hindu University (U.P.) was the resource person.

Professor Preeti Mahajan, Chairperson of the department welcomed the speaker and the participants. She also introduced the theme of the webinar.

Prof. Mukherjee emphasised on steps of writing a research paper. He also talked about the impact factor, peer review process, plagiarism and visibility of academic publications to enhance the citations. At the end, he discussed the predatory journals and suggested some key points for selecting high quality journals for academic publications.

The session was followed by a question and answer session and vote of thanks.

Women Hostel No. 6 PU celebrates Hindi Diwas

Women Hostel No. 6 (Mother Teresa Hall), Panjab University organized an online Creative Writing Competition  to celebrate the ‘Hindi Diwas’. A number of hostel residents  participated in the competition and submitted their creative work through online mode.
