Panjab University Alumni Association organized a web lecture on “Things to Know to keep your Heart Healthy” by Dr. Rajesh Vijayvergiya , MD, DM, FSCAI, FACC, FISES, Department of Cardiology, PGIMER , a senior interventional cardiologist performing coronary and peripheral intervention at PGI for over 20 years.
Ms. Sonia Chandel from PUAA welcomed and introduced Dr. Vijayvergiya to the participants.
He has published over 150 research papers in both national and international journals, received many awards and is a member of many professional bodies like Cardiology Society of India, Fellow of Society of the Cardiac Angiography and Intervention, International Society of Heart Research to name a few.
Dr. Vijayvergiya discussed about Major Cardiovascular Diseases like Heart Attack, Stroke, Rhythm etc and the reasons for their increase. He said smoking is the major reason for heart diseases and went on to discuss hypertension, obesity etc. He then discussed how to manage these problems. He discussed diet and exercise, stress and cardiovascular risk, warnings for heart attacks. Dr. Vijayvergiya concluded by describing what is angiography/ angioplasty and showed a video of the treatment to dispel the fear about this procedure.
Next, the participants asked a lot of questions regarding Cardiovascular Diseases and treatment which Dr. Vijayvergiya answered to their satisfaction.

Panchkula’ 15 october– All the necessary arrangements for holding the Navratra Mela from 17.10.2020 to 25.10.2020 have been made for the safety, security and hastle free darshan of devotees keeping in view the pandemic situation and SOPs issued by the State Government and by the Ministry of Home Affairs Govt.of India from time to time in this regard. In pursuance of SOPs, adequate arrangements have been made for washing of hands and feet, thermal screening and proper sanitization at Panchkula, Kalka and Chandi Mandir. To maintain social distancing and to contain further spread of corona, the Shrine Board has already facilitated darshan through online registration w.e.f. 8.6.2020 and this method has become very successful during this period. During these Navratras also, devotees will have to obtain e-ticket from the website of Board www.mansadevi.org.in. Now this facility has been increased from 4500 devotees to 11000 devotees per day. Free Rapid Covid Test of devotees is also being conducted before entering the temple.
Besides this, another category i.e. “Preferential Darshan” has also been introduced this time on trial basis. For such devotees token with paid darshan @ Rs.50/- per devotee will be issued and they will be allowed preferential darshan from Gate No.3. Nearly 100 devotees will be allowed in one hour slot and total 1600 devotees in a day. Children below the age of 10 years and persons above the age of 65 years are advised to avoid in this pandemic situation.
Parsaadam Scheme is also being introduced for the first time to provide quality parsaad of packed dry fruits weighing 100 gram and 200 gram online as well as offline. The cost of online parsaad to be delivered through postal services weighing 100 gram and 200 gram will be Rs.101/- and Rs.151/- respectively, including postal charges and it will be sent throughout India. This quality parsaad will also be given to the devotees offline in Panchkula, Kalka and Chandi Mandir. The offline parsaad of 100 gram and 200 gram will cost Rs.50/- and Rs.100/- respectively. Deshi Ghee Halwa Parsaad will also be provided to all devotees free of cost.
Corona Mukti Hawan will also be performed whole day daily and dignitaries will also be invited in the Hawan. Dharamshala booking has also been started online and rooms will be allotted on production of Covid Test Report. Bhandaras have also been allowed to provide packed cooked parsaad to the devotees after darshan on their way back to home.
Arrangements have also been made for live darshan through Facebook channel, You-Tube Channel (maa mansa devi) & Application ivms-4500 and live arti for the facilitation of devotees who come to pay Obeisance to the Deity from their home. Besides this, live Aarti is also being telecasted through T.V.Chamnnel ‘Khabren Abhi Tak’.
Adequate arrangements of security, medical facilities, uninterrupted water and power supply , sanitation, protocol and liaison officers etc etc have been made for the facilitation of the devotees.

Panjab University Chandigarh launched the website www.icamse2021.weebly.com for the International Conference on Aspects of Materials Science and Engineering to be held on 05th – 06th March 2021. All accepted papers of the conference will be published in Elsevier’s Scopus indexed journal: Materials Today: Proceedings. Conference coordinator Dr. Shankar Sehgal who is also Managing Guest Editor of Materials Today: Proceedings welcomed the guests and informed them that more than 250 papers are expected to be presented during the conference.
The website www.icamse2021.weebly.com was launched jointly by Prof. J.K. Goswamy, Dean Faculty of Engg. & Tech. and Prof. Renu Vig through an online method. Prof. J.K. Goswamy apprised the audience about the importance of Materials Science and its impact on life. Prof. Renu Vig motivated the audience to participate in the conference as it is a multi-dimensional domain related to materials. The Department of Computer Science and Applications, Panjab University Chandigarh organized a webinar on ‘NEP 2009/2020: Open Standards For Interactive Computing’ on October 15th, 2020.
The occasion was graced by Prof. V.R. Sinha, Dean Research and officiating Dean of University Instructions, Panjab University Chandigarh.Hehighlighted upon the mandate of NEP 2020 which is to make the education system holistic and multidisciplinary and encourage the use of technology for effective teaching.
He dwelled upon the changes proposed by the policy which were :- Multiple entry and Multiple exits, abolishment of M.Phil, autonomy which could be given to private colleges, one regulator for higher education and parity between the government and private colleges.
Prof. Maninder Singh, Head of Computer Science and Engineering Department and Center of Information and Technology Management (CITM), Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology, Patiala, highlighted the importance of quality education which can only be achieved through a strong framework and design.He also focused on 2009’s Right to Education in the Constitution of India which provided free and compulsory education for all children in the age group of six to fourteen years as a Fundamental Right.He emphasised on quality education and virtual labs and the change in the overall spending of the government from 3% of the GDP to proposed 6% of the GDP on the national education, and the key aspect of measurement such as international rankings and research aspect.He vividly explained the importance of Google Colaboratory and Project Jupyter(Project Jupyter exists to develop open-source software, open-standards, and services for interactive computing across dozens of programming languages) through interactive examples and great explanation.

While speaking on the occasion, the Hon’ble Governor of Punjab & Administrator U.T. Chandigarh, Sh. V.P. Singh Badnore lauded the efforts of Municipal Corporation Chandigarh for commissioning of the State of Art retail outlet in a record time of 3 months at Sector 51. He further added that women should be given equal opportunities to service at the new outlet for promoting women empowerment in the city. He directed the officials concerned to ensure quality & quantity 100% along with expedition of commissioning of green fuels at retail outlet.
He said that this retail outlet located at Sector 51, Chandigarh will help in better serving the customers of nearby areas by reducing their traveling time for fuel requirements.
Sh. Manoj Kumar Parida, IAS, Adviser to the Administrator, Chandigarh complemented Municipal Corporation’s efforts for new outlet which he added will be very profitable due to its strategic location. He also advised Indian oil for expediting the CNG expansion in Chandigarh city. He said that the fuel station will further strengthen the bond between Indian Oil and Chandigarh Administration which started a long back.
While sharing information about the petrol pump, the Mayor Smt. Raj Bala Malik briefed that the new fuel outlet at Sector-51 has not only provided new employment opportunities to local people but will also act as new sources of revenue for Municipal Corporation. In future, CNG facility will be added in Sec-51 outlet, she added.
The Mayor offered thanks to Hon’ble Governor under whose able vision, today the new outlet could be dedicated to the masses of city. She said that this retail outlet is fully automated wherein customers shall receive e-receipts after the purchase of fuel.
The Municipal Commissioner Sh. K.K. Yadav said that the State of Art outlet is fully automated having ultra-modern facilities such as the new ‘Smart Ground Detector’ for better safety which has been introduced for the first time on all India basis. The petrol pump at sector 51-A, Vikas Marg, Chandigarh having area 12000 Sq.ft. will work 24×7 from today onwards. Provisions have also been made for providing green fuels like CNG, EV charging and battery swapping which shall be launched in due course of time. Indian Oil’s branded petrol Xtra Premium with super cleansers will also be available at the fuel outlet, he added.
He said that the Chandigarh Administration has allotted 2 sites for setting up of petrol pumps to the Municipal Corporation at industrial area Phase-II and at Sector 51-A. He said that the second fuel outlet at industrial area Phase-II will be commissioned shortly.
Sh. Sujoy Choudhury, Executive Director & State Head, Punjab State Office, earlier in inaugural session, welcomed all the dignitaries who joined physically and also though virtual mode and thanked Chandigarh administration and Municipal Corporation Chandigarh for full support during each step for successfully achieving this milestone for Chandigarh.

Chandigarh, October 14:- The Municipal Corporation Chandigarh has carried out open auction of two nursery sites situated at Village Mauli jagran including Site No. 4 & 5 today at Conference Hall, 6th MCC building premises.
The auction was conducted in the presence of Sh. Anil Kumar Dubey, Councillor as observer and committee members Sh. Satish Kumar Jain, Additional Commissioner, Sh. Dharminder Sharma, Executive Engineer, Roads Division, SO (Estate Branch) and Law Officer.
During the open auction, both the sites have been auctioned on the following Bid amount against the reserved price of Rs.25000/- per month :-

The 7 Day Faculty Development Program on ‘Artificial Intelligence in Human Life’ organized jointly by Department of Computer Science and Applications and Human Resource Development Centre, Panjab University Chandigarh concluded today.
Dr. Rohini Sharma, Co-coordinator of the programme started the valedictory session by welcoming the chief guest Prof. Bhagwati Prakash Sharma, hon’ble Vice-Chancellor of Gautam Buddha University and Prof. Raj Kumar, Vice Chancellor, Panjab University, Chandigarh. She shared that eminent speakers from institutions like Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata, Microsoft Research India, IIT Roorkee etc. joined the programme as guest speakers.
Dr. Anuj Sharma, Coordinator of the programme presented the detailed report of the programme. He shared that the participants from various fields like Pharmacy, Mathematics, Statistics, Humanities etc. from seven different states have completed the programme successfully. The participants have given excellent feedback for the programme. Dr. Anuj Sharma stressed that indisciplinary research in Artificial Intelligence is the key to the future and the goal of the programme to sensitize the participants for the same has been achieved.
Prof. S.K. Tomar, Director, Human Resource Development Centre introduced the chief guest to the audience. He stressed that the Artificial Intelligence has a special relevance in today’s world. He talked about the state of the art facilities of Human Resource Development Centre established using funds given under RUSA and stressed that citing the enthusiasm of the participants, more such programmes based on ‘Artificial Intelligence’ and other upcoming areas would be organized. Prof. Raj Kumar, Vice-Chancellor, Panjab University talked about the importance of Artificial Intelligence. He congratulated the organizers for organizing the programme on Artificial Intelligence successfully. He talked about the importance of online courses being organized during this pandemic and the initiatives taken by the government to keep the courses going on during the pandemic also through online mode. He talked about the advantages of organizing courses online and few questions of discussion as well. He stressed that there is always a resistance to change but if it is in the favour and for the upliftment of the society, the changes are accepted sooner or later.
Prof. Bhagwati Prakash Sharma, hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Gautam Buddha University shared that in coming future only those countries will survive and rule which can accept the importance of Artificial Intelligence. Artificial Intelligence is being used in all the fields like manufacturing, economics, linguistics etc. Prof. Sharma stressed that India needs to make its presence felt in the upcoming areas by developing the Artificial Intelligence based products in the country instead of importing from other countries. He talked about the applications of Artificial Intelligence in the field of Robotics, Agriculture, Performing Arts, Linguistics etc. He stressed that Indians should start working to make Indian self dependent in every field. The Valedictory session concluded with the hope that the participants will apply the knowledge gained in the Faculty Development Programme in their respective fields.
