Online Faculty Development Program on ‘Effective Communication in the Digital Era’ commences at Panjab University

A seven- day online Faculty Development Program on the theme ‘Effective Communication in the Digital Era’ organized by Human Resource Development Center, Panjab University commenced today. The course has diverse audience from various disciplines and different states including Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Assam, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chandigarh. The key note speaker for the inaugural session of the seven-day program was Prof. Hemant Joshi, senior media educator and former professor from IIMC. Prof Joshi spoke to the faculty about the skills required for effective digital communications. He pointed out the skills of Speech, Writing, Visual Literacy and Digital Literacy as a must for being an effective communicator on digital platforms. He also stressed upon the need to educate ourselves about the digital media. He also mentioned the significance of logicality, context and background to make the communication effective.

Dr. Jayanti Dutta, Deputy Director, HRDC, Panjab University spoke to the audiences and informed about the various activities being conducted by the Center. Dr. Bhavneet Bhatti, Course Coordinator and Assistant Professor, School of Communication Studies, shared that, “Digital Platforms have become ubiquitous and especially during the Covid-19 pandemic and online working atmosphere it is significant to learn to communicate effectively on the digital platforms, thus the need was felt to have a training program on the theme of Digital Communications.” She added that, “Resource Persons from across the country and abroad from various fields will be delivering lectures on the topics like, Digital Communication and Fact Checking, Healthcare and Digital Platforms, Digital Media Literacy, Digital Storytelling, Ethical and Legal Dimensions of Digital Communications to name a few.

Later in the day, Prof. Anubhuti Yadav, Head, Dept of New Media, IIMC delivered a lecture on ‘Fact Checking and Digital Communications. With a number of examples, Prof. Yadav was able to share a number of tools which can be used to verify the credibility of news and information shared online. In an enriching and interactive session, Prof. Yadav was able to train the faculty in using online tools for fact checking.

The seven day program will see sessions on various aspects of Digital Communications.

ENACTUS TEAM OF PU DISTRIBUTED FACE SHIELDS AMONG THE FRONT LINE WORKERS OF THE UNIVERSITY

The Enactus team of Panjab University collaborated with Enactus IIT-Delhi and organised a fundraising campaign “Together We Care”, to distribute face shields to the frontline workers of Panjab University. A total of 1100 face shields were procured by the team from the funds generated through the campaign, informed Prof. Seema Kapoor.

Prof. R.K.Singla, Dean of University Instruction, Panjab University distributed face shields among the Sanitary Workers, Security Staff, Health workers and Hostel Mess Workers of Panjab University in the presence of other dignitaries who graced this occasion including Prof. S.K. Tomar, Dean Student Welfare, Prof. Sukhbir Kaur, Dean Student Welfare (Women), Prof. Ashwani Koul, Chief of University Security, Dr. Rupinder Kaur, Chief Medical Officer, BJG Institute of Health, Prof. Amrit Toor, Chairperson, SSBUICET and Er. Anil Thakur, Divisional Engineer of Horticulture Division and staff of Dean Student Welfare Office.

The Enactus team of Panjab University is one of the leading non-profit student organization seeking to solve global problems through entrepreneurial actions. The team has bagged many laurels at various stages and has continuously thrived to be among the top Enactus teams throughout India by bringing positive changes in our society. Currently, the team is running two projects namely Project Dhra & Project Uday with main objective of curbing the plastic menace, informed Prof. Seema Kapoor, Faculty Advisor of Enactus team. Project Dhra aims to replace plasticware with earthenware, combat plastic pollution and help community of potters to earn a sustainable source of income. Project Uday has two-fold objective- Women Empowerment and reducing both plastic & textile pollution.

She added that serving humanity is an integral part of Enactus Panjab University team. Continuing the tradition of service towards humanity, Enactus Panjab University has once again set an example. Due to the ongoing pandemic, a lot of people, especially the frontline workers have become seriously prone to the deadly coronavirus. Seeing the grave situation,  the team took initiative of distribution of face shields. 

The event was coordinated by Yash Tripathi, Meesha and Nandini & Harleen Singh, student members of Enactus team. Mr. Akshat Kaushik, President of Enactus team informed that the team further plans to distribute the rest of the Face Shields to the Health Workers of Development Indigenous Resources-India (DIR), an NGO and averred that the team is leaving no stone unturned in this harsh situation.

 चंडीगढ़ स्थित डिजिटल मार्केटिंग कंपनी अंर्तजाल के प्रसिद्ध उद्यमी और सीईओ मैडम दीपका बाहरी को आज प्रेस क्लब चंडीगढ़ में वुमेन्स  इंडियन चैंबर ऑफ कॉमर्स एंड इंडस्ट्री की चंडीगढ़ अध्यक्ष के रूप में नियुक्त किया गया।  मास्टर शेफ सीजन 1 के फाइनलिस्टों में से एक, प्रसिद्ध शेफ और मास्टर शेफ कांडला निझुन मास्टरशेफ को उपाध्यक्ष के रूप में नियुक्त किया गया ।   डॉ। हरवीन अरोड़ा, संस्थापक और राष्ट्रीय अध्यक्ष  डब्ल्यू आई सी सी आई  के द्वारा उनको  नियुक्ति पत्र दिया गया ।  उद्घाटन समारोह में बोलते हुए, दीपिका बाहरी ने कहा, “हम सभी के लिए यह बहुत खुशी की बात है कि विभिन्न क्षेत्रों से हमारे 29 प्रमुख सदस्य हैं।”  परिणामस्वरूप हम विभिन्न परियोजनाओं में डिजिटल मार्केटिंग के माध्यम से महिलाओं को आत्मनिर्भर बनाएंगे।  नवनियुक्त अध्यक्ष दीपका बाहरी  ने कहा कि उन्होंने इस उद्देश्य के लिए पहले से ही कुछ योजनाएं बनाई हैं, जिसके तहत वह वृक्षारोपण अभियान और एक पुस्तक दान अभियान शुरू करेंगी।  हमारी दूसरी प्राथमिकता 200 महिलाओं को छात्रवृत्ति प्रदान करना है।  डब्ल्यू आई सी सी आई  अंतरराज्यीय के सहयोग से एक मुफ्त डिजिटल विपणन पाठ्यक्रम प्रदान करेगा।


 उन्होंने कहा कि हम इंटरनेट के माध्यम से एक एप्लीकेशन शुरू करने जा रहे हैं, जिसे हम सभी स्कूलों में मुफ्त में उपलब्ध कराएंगे।  यह सभी उपस्थिति, असाइनमेंट और होमवर्क को कवर करेगा।

MCC celebrates Lohri at Sector 22

Chandigarh, January 13:- The Municipal Corporation Chandigarh has celebrated Lohri at Moonlit Park, Sector 22, here today. Sh. Ravi Kant Sharma, Mayor, Chandigarh was the Chief Guest and Sh. K.K. Yadav, IAS, was Guest of Honour during the colorful function.

The people danced to the beats of dhol and sung songs of Lohri after lighting ceremonial bonfire. The Mayor and Commissioner wished citizens a very happy Lohri.

प्रदेश के नागरिकों के लिए कोरोना वैक्सिन की पहली खेप पहंुच गई है।

पंचकूला 13 जनवरी। प्रदेश के नागरिकों के लिए कोरोना वैक्सिन की पहली खेप पहंुच गई है। चण्डीगढ स्थित हवाई अडडे पर पंचकूला के उपायुक्त मुकेश कुमार आहूजा व निदेशक राष्ट्रीय ग्रामीण स्वास्थ्य मिशन डा. बी के राजोरा ने कोरोना वैक्सिन को रिसिव किया। उपायुक्त मुकेश कुमार आहूजा ने बताया कि पूना से सिरम कम्पनी की कोरोना वैक्सिन आई है इसे रिसिव कर कुरूक्षेत्र के राज्य स्तरीय भण्डारण केन्द्र में भेजा गया है। इसके बाद यह वैक्सिन क्षेत्रीय भण्डारण केन्द्र हिसार, गुरूग्राम, रोहतक में भेजी जाएगी। उन्होंने बताया कि इन केन्द्रों से कोरोना वैक्सिन को जिला स्तर पर भेजा जाएगा और 16 जनवरी से टीका लगाना शुरू किया जाएगा।
उपायुक्त ने बताया कि वैक्सिन के 21 बाॅक्स आए हैं। इनके प्रत्येक बाॅक्स मंे 12 हजार खुराक है। इस प्रकार प्रदेश को पहली खेप के रूप में 2 लाख 41 हजार 500 वैक्सिन के टीके मिले हैं। इनका प्रयोग फ्रंटलाईन में कार्य करने वाले वर्करों के लिए पहलेे किया जाएगा।

राष्ट्रीय स्वास्थ्य मिशन ग्रामीण हरियाणा के निदेशक डा. बी के राजोरा ने बताया कि भारत सरकार के स्वास्थ्य मंत्रालय के निर्देशानुसार 16 जनवरी से शुरू किए जाने वाले कोरोना वैक्सिन के लिए प्रदेश में 113 स्थानों का चयन किया गया है। प्रत्येक स्थान पर 100 हैल्थ वर्कर को कोरोना का पहला टीका लगाया जाएगा।
इस अवसर पर डा. वी एस अहलावत उप निदेशक प्रतिरक्षण, तकनीकी सलाहाकार राजीव कुमार, एसीपी नुपुन बिश्नोई भी मौजूद रहे।

Various eminent speakers delivered a talk on different topics of statistical tools
used for effective research. Dr.Tilak Raj from UBS discussed the concept of index
numbers and their calculations and also highlighted their importance in various
fields.

Prof. Bhupinder Singh Bhoop, UIPS delved on the topic of Quality by Design (QbD)
with interesting case of pharma industry. Dr. Pooja Arora, Scientist from NIPER
discussed topics such as sampling design, validity, reliability, demand forecasting
etc. Dr. Tejinder Pal explained basis of research and non-parametric tests in
greater detail.


The workshop concluded with encouraging words from Chairperson Prof. Amrit Pal Toor

MCC bags 1st prize in National Energy Conservation awards

Chandigarh, January 11:- The Municipal Corporation Chandigarh has got the first prize in the National Energy conservation awards (Municipality sector) in a programme held at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi today.

The award has been received by Sh. Ravi Kant Sharma, Mayor and Sh. K.K. Yadav, IAS, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh through virtual presence. The award has been presented by Sh. R.K. Singh, Minister of State for Power and New & Renewable Energy during the 30th National Energy Conservation Awards-2020 function.

After receiving the award, Sh. Ravi Kant Sharma, Mayor said that the MCC has done commendable efforts for earning this coveted National award. He said that the officers under the leadership of the Commissioner has put their best efforts in replacing entire street lights with energy efficient LED lights in the city.

          The Commissioner said that with aim to reduce its energy foot-print and cut down on electricity consumption costs, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh replaced all the 48524 street light points with energy efficient LED street lights in the city. He said that with the result the city saved approx. 13.02 Million Units of energy annually and reduced its power bills from 14 crore annually to Rs. 8 crore on account of street lights.

He said that these LED street lights are also eco friedly and 10543 metric tonne of carbon foot prints are reduced annually. The MCC also installed Roof Top Solar Plants on its buildings and water works and generating 8 Mega Watt from alternate source earning 2.35 crore yearly. CREST has also made a proposal to install floating solar panels on the raw water tanks which will have a proposed capacity of 12 Mega Units, he added.
