An International Webinar on Gender and Media Equity was jointly organized by the Centre for Social Work, Department of Ancient Indian History, Culture and Archaeology and Centre for Midwest and Central Asian Studies, Panjab University.
The key Speaker, Sh. Bajinder Pal Singh, Advisor, Media and Communications, University of Chulalonkogorn, Bangkok, talked about women in journalism , particularly from India and other South East Asian countries and the kind of issues that they face on the field .
Professor Raj Kumar, Vice-Chancellor Panjab University, remarked on the importance of the media for society at large .
The welcome address was given by Professor Monica Munjial Singh, Chairperson, Centre for Social Work and also while introducing the speaker, she said that he is from University in Bangkok which is the oldest university of Thailand and currently ranked amongst the top hundred global universities.
The concluding remarks were delivered by Professor Paru Bal Sidhu, Chairperson, Ancient Indian History, Culture and Archaeology, Panjab University, Chandigarh.
The formal vote of thanks was given by Professor Pampa Mukherjee, Honorary Director, Centre for Midwest and Central Asian Studies, Panjab University. It was a well attended webinar by faculty members, Post Graduate students and Research Scholars. A few women journalists from Kashmir also joined the International Webinar.

To mark the celebration of International Olympic Day, Panjab University, Chandigarh organized International Webinar on 23rd June, 2021 on the theme ‘Promotion of Integration and sustainable development through olympism’.
The collaborative partners were Dev Samaj College of Education, Chandigarh, IOA Olympic Education and Other Academic Matters Committee, International Olympic Academic Matters Committee, International Olympic Academy Participants Association India and National Council of Sports Science and Physical Education.
Prof. Raj Kumar, Vice Chancellor of Panjab University, Chandigarh was the Chief Guest who embraced the pure Olympic values and presented his valuable words to encourage the integrity of sports globally. Inaugural Ceremony aligned with the welcome address by Patron, Prof Prashant Gautam and deliberation on the theme of webinar was conveyed by Dr. Rakesh Malik, Convener-cum-organizing Secretary. Addressal by Guest of Honour from India and across county was delivered by Mr. Abraham Elod Lajos ,Advisor of the Ministry of Sports and youth, Romania, Prof. L.B Laxmikanth Rathod ,Vice Chancellor, Palamuru University, Telangana and Christina N. Smith ,OLY, MSA, BKin, Canada. The fraternity of Education and Sports across the globe joined the event as Chairpersons, co-chairpersons, eminent speakers for Paper presentation and delegates. speakers namely Cindy Burteson (USA), Tatiana Mitrofanova (Russia), Dr. Anoma (Srilanka), Dr. Rakesh Tomar (Saudi Arabia), Panos Papageorgiou (Greece), Rolly Pagaspas (Philippines), Nir Abar (Israel), Fransiska Titroadisruja (Indonesia), Dr. Suman Pandey (India), Catherin (Ireland) and Dr. Madhuri (India) wonderfully presented their researches and views on the theme in the plenary sessions. Chairpersons expressed their prudent reflections critically summarizing each session.
The Valedictory ceremony was addressed by Convenor cum Organizing Secretary Dr. Neeru Malik with formal vote of thanks . The event was sponsored by Traditional Sports and Games Federation, Dr. B.R. Chandigarh, June 23: –A meeting of Environment & City Beautification committee, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh was held here today in the conference hall under the chairmanship of Sh. Sachin Kumar Lohatiya and attended by other member councillors of MCC namely Sh. Hardeep Singh, Sh. Rajesh Gupta, Mrs Gurbax Rawat, Mrs Heera Negi, Maj. Gen. M.S. Kandal and concerned officers of MCC. Mrs. Asha Jaswal, MC Councillor also attended the meeting as special invitee.
During the meeting various issues related to proper maintenance of parks and green belts and repair of infrastructure over there along with the open air gyms were discussed and asked the concerned officers to expedite the work on priority before monsoon besides according approval to following developmental agendas:
1. Supply and fixing of open air gym and fitness equipments in the park in front of house no. 3070 & 3071, Sector 20, Chandigarh under landscaping at estimated cost of Rs. 2.95 Lac.
2. Providing and fixing of brick on edge on both sides of concrete track in park near Verka booth, Sector 21, Chandigarh and repair of concrete track in Green Belt sector 18&19, Chandigarh under Landscaping at estimated cost of Rs. 9.70 Lacs.

Tech./B.C.A. or Master’s Degree in Geography/Geology/ Geophysics/ Mathematics/ Physics/ Botany/ Environment Science/ Computer Science/ M.C.A./Urban Planning/Regional Planning with at least 50% marks in aggregate. Population Research Centre , Panjab University Chandigarh conducted the Impact assessment of URJA project sponsored by Chandigarh Administration which was released by Prof. Raj Kumar ,Vice Chancellor and Ms. Mrs. Nilambari Jagadale, IPS IG Cyber Crime in the presence of Prof. Kumool Abbi, Director PRC and Dr Sukhbir Singh who were the members of the research team. URJA project was pioneered and guided by Mrs. Nilambari Jagadale, IPS IG Cyber Crime where children learnt various life skills and now they are implementing these life skills in their daily routine.
Another report on Stakeholder Perception: Study on New Education Policy,2002 was also released by Prof. Raj Kumar and Ms. Nilambari Jagadale.
National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 is a big revolution replacing the 34-year-old policy idea and envisioning the much-needed modification in the Indian Education System. The Policy has maintained a delicate balance between the traditions and the interdisciplinary approach, which is the need of the 21st century. This study was conducted by Prof. Kumool Abbi, Dr Sukhbir Singh , Dr Tarun Bala and Dr Manmohan Singh. Population Research Centre is actively involved in conducting various health related projects and evaluation studies.

Legal Aid Society, University Institute of Legal Studies, Panjab University, Chandigarh inaugurated the VIRTUAL LEGAL AID CLINIC as a part of its initiative to provide free legal aid in these harsh COVID times. The concept of community outreach has been of paramount importance in the committee as the Society believes that individuals equipped with pristine knowledge of the law are not to remain in ivory towers but to cater to social realities and needs.
Hon’ble Mr. Justice Jasbir Singh,former Judge, Punjab and Haryana High Court with all his experience in this field, enlightened the team with his knowledge and guided them to be passionate towards the profession and compassionate towards the people who need their help. He also welcomed the project and gave his suggestions to make it more user friendly and useful for the sections it is meant for. Showing the path to all, Justice Jasbir Singh stressed on the need to preserve nature as it is we humans who need nature, and not the nature who needs us. Being an example to young and budding advocates and law students, he emphasised the need to serve the society in these tough times and times to come.
Prof. Raj Kumar, PU Vice Chancellor appreciated the efforts of the teachers and the students towards the Virtual Legal Aid Clinic Project which he mentioned to be offering 24×7 support to the economically backward sections of the society. He also mentioned that the Virtual Legal Aid Clinic also satisfies the idea of Mobile Legal Aid Clinic which was being planned to be launched before COVID19.
Prof. Devinder Singh, Deptt of Laws and Secy to Vice Chancellor also lauded the hard work which the team has put into this initiative. He stressed on the need of free legal aid at the time when litigation has become a luxury. He motivated the Legal Aid team to work towards the success of this initiative.
Earlier,Prof. Dr. Rajinder Kaur, Director, UILS helped achieve this dream project of having a virtual legal aid clinic, and welcomed all the dignitaries. She added that with the Inauguration of the Virtual Legal Aid Clinic, the people in need of legal help will be able to quickly and easily contact the Legal Aid Clinic at University Institute of Legal Studies, Panjab University which is aimed at serving humanity while securing justice to all.

A webinar was organised on “Yoga: A Holistic Approach to Health and Wellness”
by Panjab University Alumni Association in collaboration with Interdisciplinary Centre for Swami Vivekanand Studies and Dr. SSB University Institute of Chemical Engineering and Technology to commemorate International Day for Yoga on June 21.
Prof Raj Kumar, Vice Chancellor, Panjab University while presiding over the webinar expressed that Yoga is believed to have started with the very dawn of civilization and derived from the Sanskrit root ‘Yuj’, meaning ‘to join’ or ‘‘to unite’. Thus, the practice of Yoga leads to the union of individual consciousness with that of the Universal Consciousness, indicating a synergistic harmony. He shared that PU is in a missionary mode to promote and popularise this ancient practise of ensuring wellness on the clarion call by our Hon’ble Prime Minister, Sh Narendra Modi and the directions of the University Grants Commission. He made an impassioned plea to all the attendees to popularise and practise Yoga.
Sh Rajiv Mishra, celebrated Master trainer from Project Life, Rajkot highlighted the cardinal principles and protocols of Yoga. He highlighted that modern Yoga focuses more on physical poses, breathing techniques, and meditation. He enumerated the ways and means of reducing stress and anxiety, tips of living a healthy life style and ensuring work-life balance through Yogic approach. He emphasised that in the contemporary times, everybody has conviction about yoga practices towards the preservation, maintenance and promotion of health. With the help of his team of instructors, he exhibited simple Yoga Asanas, enumerating their benefits and purposes, which was much appreciated by the audience.
Prof VR Sinha, Dean of University Instructions opined that scientific research has proven that yoga can help reduce stress levels, increase awareness, build immunity and strong physical and mental health along with helping regularize the systems of the body over all. Few simple yet effective yogic exercises can ensure good health and overall wellness in one’s life, thereby enhancing one’s productivity and efficiency. He highlighted the two-pronged approach through Yoga. Short term goal is to ensure physical fitness. In the long term, it aims at developing attitudinal changes that prevent the build up of toxins through various practices and meditative techniques. Thus, Yoga ensures purification of the body and mind.
Prof Sanjeev Sharma, Coordinator, ICSVS informed that this webinar is being dedicated in the memory of Sh. Milkha Singh ji, the legendary and iconic sports persona who will always remain a role model due to his profound impact on all of us and commitment towards healthy lifestyle.
Prof Anupama Sharma, Dean Alumni Relations, PU highlighted the objective of the webinar in the form of the lecture cum demonstration for the benefit of the participants. Prof Raj Kumar, Vice-Chancellor, Panjab University held an online interaction today with Associate Professors of PU. At the outset, he encouraged all by citing examples of success from his own experiences like facilitating the young person who wanted to start a start-up with the idea of generating power from discharged battery cells who later become an employer of approx. 200 employees and getting soil samples tested for approx. 200 farmers. Appreciating the stature of Panjab University ,he urged all to work collectively towards achieving top rating of NAAC and sought cooperation of all in this endeavour by updating databases, informing achievements, keeping documentary evidence for evaluation etc.
PU VC also advised faculty members to work towards interdisciplinary, multidisciplinary research, write new projects, new start-ups, start a PhD in a completely new research area, think on innovative ideas and get patents. He also motivated faculty members to send PhD panels for their research scholars across the Nation or few International examiners rather than limiting it to 3-4 nearby States.
PU VC urged all to create a bond with their students and strengthen decision making for the smooth working of the system . The suggestions were taken from the senior officials and the faculty members present in the meeting.
Prof Ashish Jain, Director IQAC informed that NAAC visit is due in July next year and we should be ready for getting the highest rating of the NAAC. He requested that all faculty members should report their achievements, lectures delivered, public lectures, projects, patents etc. to their respective departmental IQAC cells for updating the same on the IRB portal. He requested sharing of all information which can help in getting PU a better NAAC score.
Prof. Anuradha Sharma-Associate Director, IQAC requested to report all the non-academic activities, if happened, between Mentee-Mentor institutes as well as to inform all the programs organised or attended under IIC.
Prof Anupama Sharma- Dean Panjab University Alumni Association shared the information regarding the activities initiated under PUAA like awarding small research projects or providing seed money to initiate the project. She also informed that they are planning to honour faculty members for their outstanding achievements in the field of research & innovations.
Prof. Anju Suri, Dean International Students informed about the activities taken up by their cell like conducting webinars, short term courses. She also informed that faculty members can send their proposal for conducting Short Term Courses, Exchange Programs etc.
Prof. G. R. Chaudhary, Director-CIL informed that their Lab is continuously testing samples received by their lab and helping the researchers in this tough time. More than 70 Associate Professors participated in the meeting and also gave suggestions on various aspects of improvement in the university.
उपकुलपति पंजाब विश्वविधालय, प्रो राज कुमार ने कार्यक्रम का शुभारंभ करते हुए प्रो° अशोक सिंह का वेबिनार ‘महाराणा प्रताप के जीवन पर एक नजर और हल्दीघाटी के युद्ध की सच्चाई’ में स्वागत किया। महाराणा प्रताप के व्यक्तित्व के बारे में बताते प्रो राज कुमार ने बताया की हल्दी घाटी युद्ध की कहानियों से हर व्यक्ति में एक अलग सी ऊर्जा का संचार होता है । त्याग की मूरत महाराणा प्रताप ने सृष्टि मात्र के लिए सबसे महत्वपूर्ण उदहारण पेश की है। वे कष्ट की जिंदगी जीते हुए भी मातृ भूमि की रक्षा करते रहे। आज के विद्यार्थियों को भी महाराणा प्रताप से प्रेरणा लेनी चाहिए, मात्र भूमि से प्रेम करना चाहिए। वाणी को विराम देते हुए उन्होंने प्रो अशोक जी का पुनः स्वागत किया।
कार्यक्रम को आगे बढ़ाते हुए प्रो एस. के. तोमर जी , डीन छात्र कल्याण पंजाब विश्वविद्यालय ने बताया कि हल्दी घाटी की गाथा और महाराणा प्रताप की जीवनी समाज को भविष्य का रास्ता दिखाता है। महाराणा प्रताप जी ने प्रजा और मातृ भूमि की रक्षा के लिए अपना बलिदान दीया। उनका यह बलिदान आगे आने वाली पीढ़ियां याद रखेगी। किताबो में लिखी बातें पूर्णतः सच नही है, महाराणा प्रताप ने हल्दी घाटी युद्ध जीता है।
महाराणा प्रताप जी के जीवन पर प्रकाश डालते हुए प्रो दिवेंदर जी, सेक्रेटरी कुलपति पंजाब विश्वविद्यालय ने कई कथाकथित बहुत सी बाते बताई और प्रो अशोक का स्वागत भी किया।
कार्यक्रम के मुख्य वक्ता प्रो अशोक सिंह जी ने विषय पर प्रकाश डालते हुए बताया कि महाराणा प्रताप जी के जीवन के बारे में शोध संकलन के लिए यूनिटाइड नेशन और भारत सरकार ने एक के कार्य शुरू किया जिसने उन्हें काम करने का सौभाग्य प्राप्त हुआ। इतिहास में बताया गया है की मुगलों को धूल खिलाने में महाराणा प्रताप ने कोई कमी नही छोड़ी। हल्दी घाटी का युद्ध उदयपुर के पास राजसमद नमक जगह पर लड़ा गया। अकबर और महाराणा प्रताप के बीच में लड़ा गया युद्ध इतिहास में एक बड़ा हिस्सा रखता है। प्रताप को मेवाड़ का राज सिंहासन बचपन में ही मिल गया थी। भारत के लोगो ने मुगलों की हिंसा को देखते हुए जोहर शुरू किया। महाराणा ने अपने शासन को मजबूत किया और सम्पूर्ण मेवाड़ पर जीत प्राप्त की।
महाराणा ने कभी भी अधीनता स्वीकार न की। मान सिंह ने अकबर की सेना छोड़ कर प्रताप का साथ दिया।
मानसिंह ने मित्रता को बढ़ने के लिए प्रताप को एक ही थाली में खाना खाने का आग्रह किया पर महाराणा ने इंकार कर बोला कि अपने अपने घर की बेटी किसी ओर के घर ब्याही है राजपूतों को यह बात शोभा नही देती इसलिए हम मित्र नही हो सकते।
