Panchkula , 1 Oct- The Director General of Police , Haryana Mr Shatrujeet Kapur, chaired an important meeting with senior police officers and station in-charges from Panchkula. The main purpose of the meeting was to develop a comprehensive action plan aimed at eradicating drug-related issues in Panchkula, while also making women safer and dealing with individuals who break the law. During the meeting, Mr. Kapur urged the attendees to develop a detailed action plan to make Panchkula drug-free. He emphasized the importance of compiling a list of drug sellers and addicts in both rural and urban areas, and stressed the need for stringent measures against these individuals. The Director General of Police also highlighted the important role that Gram Prahri play in addressing the drug problem, and encouraged them to facilitate the rehabilitation of those affected by drug addiction. Mr. Kapur sought feedback from the police officers regarding ongoing de-addiction efforts in Panchkula. In a dedicated effort to make women safer, Mr. Kapur announced plans to compile data on vehicles, including autos, e-rickshaws, and private buses in the district. He called for increased police presence around educational institutions and other hotspots to create a safer environment for women. He also urged Gram Prahari to identify and take action against harassers and domineering individuals in both rural and urban areas. Furthermore, Kapur issued directives to launch a campaign against the unauthorized use of sirens and red lights by vehicle drivers. He emphasized the importance of enforcing traffic regulations and penalizing those who misuse such equipment, stressing that no one should be allowed to violate the law. In the pursuit of a crime-free state, Sh. Kapur underlined the importance of preventing crime and managing resources effectively. He encouraged officers to communicate work expectations clearly to subordinates and evaluate their performance monthly. Sh. Kapur also stressed the importance of treating complainants with respect and transparency, and soliciting feedback from them within a week. Mr Kapur underscored the importance of police stations and outposts in serving society, and encouraged officers to uphold their duties honestly and with dedication, ensuring that victims receive justice. Lastly, Kapur provided specific guidance to village guards, outlining six key areas of focus, including tackling drug-related issues, addressing domineering individuals, and combating crimes against women. The meeting concluded with Kapoor honoring seven exemplary policemen, and Police Commissioner Sibas Kaviraj extending a warm welcome, while DCP Sumer Pratap Singh offered the vote of thanks.

P.M Modi’s call for ‘Shramdaan’ on the eve of Gandhi Jayanti reverberated in the entire ward no. 12 in full furore. Today hundred of volunteers from all walks joined hands in collaboration with M.C Chandigarh, in cleaning various areas of ward no. 12. This ‘ swacchanjali’ was given as a homage to the Father of our Nation.
In two major events, the Dussehra Ramleela Ground of sector – 24 and the back side of Patel market of sector-15 were thoroughly cleaned by the area councillor Saurabh Joshi, officials of M.C Chandigarh,residents from entire ward no.12 and numerous volunteers.
The most endearing vision was when all the characters of Ram leela came dressed- up in their costumes to volunteer in the drive. In sector 15 , the presence and participation of hundred of youth/ students sparked up the cleanliness drive. The entire back lane of Patel Market of Sector 15 was cleaned up. The residents too did not lack in their fervour to show their awareness about cleanliness. All the energetic and gleeful participants hailed P.M Modi who had accorded highest priority to a ‘ swacch bharat’ ever since he became the P.M of India in the year 2014. During this program M.C commissioner Anandita Mitra and area Councillor Saurabh Joshi made all the participants to pledge for following the ‘zero waste policy’. A public toilet of sector 15/C was too cleaned up. Saurabh joshi, who was so elated to see so many people coming out of their own accord, said, ” the over- whelming response of children, youth, women and even elderly shows how the value of cleanliness instilled by Mahatma Gandhi is so glorified. This shows that we have not forgotten and will never forget the morals of Bapu, be it a child or his grandparents.”
This campaign was carried out in various other areas of the ward, including neighbourhood parks, public toilets, streets etc. Plantation was too done by enthusiasts. On this occassion the field staff of M.C including M.O.H ‘ Safai Karamcharis’ , ‘ Maalis’ of Horticulture Department were honoured and given sanitizers and gloves by the M.C Commissioner Anandita Mitra and Saurabh Joshi. *Chandigarh, October 1:-* In response to the call of Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Sh. Narendra Modi, the citizens of Chandigarh, the City Beautiful, united in an extraordinary display of civic pride and community spirit.
With an astonishing turnout of approximately 30,000 individuals across 230 different locations, the people of Chandigarh joined forces to give their heartfelt *Swachhanjali* to the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi.
The monumental cleanliness drives reverberated with passion and enthusiasm, encompassing all 35 wards of the city and engaging a multitude of organizations, departments, schools, NGOs, and citizens from all walks of life. This inclusive effort saw the active participation of small children, women, senior citizens, college students, celebrities, eminent personalities, and others.
Cleaning initiatives stretched far and wide, targeting various areas within each ward such as parks maintained by Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs), market areas and their back lanes meticulously cleaned by Market Welfare Associations (MWAs), public toilets, schools, forest areas, mandis, transport hubs, and residential areas.
The Governor of Punjab and Administrator U.T. Chandigarh Sh. Banwarilal Purohit, accompanied by city Mayor Sh. Anup Gupta, Municipal Commissioner Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS area councilor Sh. Rajinder Sharma and volunteer students of NSS, joined forces to clean up Apni Mandi, Sector 49, as part of the Swachhta hi Seva campaign. The enthusiasm and efforts displayed by the the Governor and the students, even in the scorching heat, were truly commendable as they cleared up fruit and vegetable waste scattered across the apni mandi ground.
Led by city Mayor the youth of the city demonstrated unrivaled dedication and commitment to a cleaner, greener Chandigarh. The inaugural cleanliness drive set the tone for the entire campaign, with Mayor Anup Gupta taking charge and leading the Swachhata ke liye Shramdaan alongside enthusiastic students from Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 21. Together, they meticulously cleaned up littered garbage in Sector 21, serving as a shining example for all.
The Sabzi Mandi of Sector 26 witnessed a remarkable display of civic duty, with over 500 volunteers coming together under the guidance of the Mayor of Chandigarh, making a significant impact on cleanliness.
In a resounding show of national pride and dedication to cleanliness, more than 2000 students from Chandigarh University created a magnificent National Flag formation. Their unwavering determination led them to clean up the densely populated residential area of Manimajra, leaving no stone unturned in their mission to make India Garbage Free!
The dedicated team at Chandigarh Transport Undertaking, in collaboration with Members of Auto Union and Bhartiya Mazdoor Sangh, embarked on four locations across major transport hubs in the city. Depot I & II Industrial Area Phase I, ISBT-17, Depot-III sector 25, and ISBT 43 were thoroughly cleaned during the Swachhata ke liye Shramdaan initiative.
Renowned Bollywood singer B Praak, the voice behind the melodious Swachhta Anthem – Rakhna Sambhaal Chandigarh, led the Swachhata ke liye Shramdaan cleanliness drive at the Park in Sector 10, further galvanizing the community.
Key officials from the Chandigarh Administration, including Sh. Nitin Yadav, IAS, Secretary Local Government, who led the “Swachhanjali” with representatives of Market Welfare Associations at Sector 11 market, and Finance Secretary, Sh. Vijay Zade, IAS, who spearheaded the drive in the neighborhood park of Sector 27, actively participated in the cleanliness movement.
Not stopping at just one community, Chandigarh also organized an inclusive cleanliness drive to maintain the inside and outside premises of cemeteries belonging to minority communities such as Bahai and Muslims, alongside the Hindu cemetery in Sector 25, where city Mayor led the cleanliness drive.
Furthermore, Gaushalas in Sector 25 & 45 were subjects of extensive cleaning drives, thanks to the collaborative efforts of Chandigarh’s Charted Accountants Association and Chandigarh Residents’ Associations Welfare Federation.
MC Chandigarh also took an important step towards ensuring cleanliness and safety by collecting gloves and masks during the Swachhanjali – cleanliness drive citywide. These vital items are being handled responsibly, with proper disposal methods in place to safeguard both the environment and public health.
In addition to the cleanliness drives, Chandigarh’s commitment to proper waste management was evident during the Swachhata Pakhwada – Swachhata Hi Seva campaign. Garbage transportation vehicles were deployed at each of the 230 cleaning drive locations, ensuring that the collected garbage was efficiently transported to the processing facilities. Different types of waste, including MSW, C&D, and horticulture waste, were directed to appropriate facilities such as MRF, C&D plant, and composting sites, emphasizing the city’s dedication to a sustainable future.
City Mayor Sh. Anup Gupta extended gratitude to all the individuals, organizations, departments, schools, NGOs, and citizens who actively participated in these initiatives. Their passion, enthusiasm, and unwavering dedication have contributed towards making Chandigarh cleaner, greener, and safer for everyone.
