Women have an instrumental role in achieving target of $5 trillion economy
Minister of State Sh Rattan lal kataria termed that women have an instrumental role to play in the economic growth of India in the 21st century. Mr kataria was speaking at the foundation day of the National Commission of Women. Mr Kataria informed that as per estimates, the participation of women in labour force stands around 25% as against global average of 48%. An Increase of 10% participation would add $700 billion in the GDP.
He added “ Imagine the enormous potential that can be tapped by leveraging the strength of over 40 Crore women in rural areas”.
Mr Kataria honored the female frontline warriors who offered distinguished service during the Covid induced lockdown. He congratulated each one of them for their invaluable service. He mentioned that women have been conferred a status of Goddesses in our rich cultural heritage, however, they have had to face certain challenges due to scathing attack launched on the social fabric by the foreign forces. Mr Kataria highlighted the efforts of social reformers like Raja Ram Mohan Roy and Swami Vivekananda who relentlessly worked for their empowerment.
Mr Kataria informed that under the leadership of Prime Minister Sh Narendra Modi, the Government is tirelessly working towards the empowerment of women through flagship programmes like Beti Bachao Beti Padao which is achieving overwhelming response. Mr Kataria also stated that for the first time, women leaders have been given key portfolios like Defence, Finance, etc under the Modi Government.
The Foundation day programme was attended by the Union Cabinet Minister Sh Prakash Javadekar, Chairperson National Commission of Women Smt Rekha Sharma, Member Secretary NCW, Secretary Women and Child Development.
