Chandigarh April 30, 2019
Students of the M.Sc. Semester IV of University Institute of Fashion
Technology and Vocational Development (2017-19 Batch) put up a show of Bold and Beautiful Victorian Gowns as part of their syllabus in Structured Clothing.
This is the year that a new revised syllabus has given an opportunity to the
young designers to exercise their creativity and play with yards and yards of fabric material, twist and turn it on Dress-forms till it draped perfectly to take the shape of Bouncy and Flouncy Gowns resembling the Royal Clothing from the 1600s.
Use of basic non expensive muslin, folding into exquisitely shaped Corseted
Bodices and Jackets, slyly hiding Boning of various sizes in its seams could be seen in all the 11 creations.
The display is the entire effort of Dr. Rita Kant, Senior Professor of
University Institute of Fashion Technology & Vocational Development, Panjab University, Chandigarh.
Ruffles and Bouffant Skirts finished with the use of Cancan and Crinoline in under layers added to the elegance of the period costumes.
Dr. Prabhdeep Brar, Chairperson informed that the assignment was prepared in just 15 days. She added that every cut in the fabric and every stitch sewn in the material was the work of the students themselves. It was hard to believe that no tailor help was taken.
