The delegation handed over a memorandum of problems faced by the local residents of Deep Complex, Hallomajra including delay in laying of paver blocks under the MPLAD funds in the streets of the complex area. The Mayor immediately asked the concerned Engineers of B&R wing to sort out the issue and start the laying of paver blocks in the streets.

Commissioner distributes Swachhata tool kits to SHGs

Chandigarh, July 14:- Sh. K.K. Yadav, IAS, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh today distributed Swachhata toolkits to the members of Self Help Groups engaged in Operation and Management of Community toilets under the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh.

The toolkit programme was organized at Community Centre, Sector 23, here today by the P{etroleum Conservation Research Association in collaboration with DAY-NULM Cell, Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh.

While addressing the members of SHGs, the Commissioner appreciated the role of women SHGs engaged to maintain the community toilets in Chandigarh. Total 50 women were given swachhata toolkits along with assertion on conserving energy and conservation arranged by PCRA.

Sh. Rohit Gupta, Joint Commissioner, Representatives from PCRA, Sh. Vivek Trivedi, SDO, NULM, MCC and other officials were present during the programme.

Earlier, the Commissioner also reviewed PMSVANidhi Yojna in the conference hall in MCC building. All the representatives from different banks were asked to ensure loan cases at the earliest and submit compliance report till 28th July, 2021 positively.

Adviser visits C&D Waste Plant, Garbage Process Plant & MRF Station

Chandigarh, March 7:- Sh. Dharam Pal, IAS, Adviser to the Administrator, UT, Chandigarh today visited various big projects of Municipal Corporation Chandigarh including Construction & Demolition (C&D) waste plant at Industrial Area Phase-I, Material Recovery Facility Station, 3 BRD, Legacy Mining and Garbage Processing Plant, Dadumajra and Aerobic Composting system at Rose Garden, Sector 16, Chandigarh.

                    He was accompanied by Sh. K.K. Yadav, IAS, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation and other senior officers of MCC. The Commissioner apprised the Adviser that the work at C&D waste plant consists processing of construction and demolition waste & manufacturing of PCC products to be used for pavements, road work, fencing work etc. Processing plant accepts all cement, construction demolition waste except steel up to the size 1-1.5 feet which is being processed by crushing and washing in four type of aggregates i.e. sand, 10mm Bajri, 20mm Bajri, and 40mm Bajri.

                    He said that such aggregates are being utilized further for making cement concrete products including PCC kerb, PCC channel, PCC tiles, Paver block, cement concrete works, bollards etc.; Public health works i.e. PCC road gully covers, PCC manhole covers etc.; Horticulture works i.e. PCC benches, CC tree and various road sub base works.

                    The Adviser asked the Commissioner to enhance the capacity of the plant to accept C&D waste from outskirts also.

          After that the Adviser visited Material Recovery Facility Centre at 3 BRD where the Commissioner apprised him about the functioning of the centre. He said that the project is one of the component of the comprehensive Solid Waste Management System as per SWM Rules, 2016, which aims at reducing the time and cost involved in collection and transfer of waste two besides generating income by recovering the reusable and recyclable waste.

The Commissioner said that door to door waste collection vehicles brings segregated waste i.e. dry & wet waste in different compartments at the Material Recovery Facility which is having dedicated space for sorting of recoverable dry waste into different categories like paper, card, recyclable plastics, glass bottles, metal etc, Dry waste left after recovery of recyclable materials are being compacted in huge compactors to compost plant located in Sector 25, Daddumajra, Chandigarh. Weigh bridges have been provided for measurement of dry and wet waste within the Material Recovery Facility.

He said that MRF facility is equipped with hopper- tippers and compactor capsules for transfer of waste from smaller (3.2 cum) vehicles to 20 cum capsules where the waste is being compacted to one fifth of the original volume. The volume reduction will save cost of transportation of waste and space required for disposal of waste.

The Adviser further visited Legacy mining project at dumping site and Garbage processing plant at Dadumajra. He reviewed the Solid waste management system in Chandigarh where he was briefed by the Commissioner about waste collection, transportation and disposal of MSW. He was briefed about detailed methodology and steps taken by the MCC for collection and disposal of municipal solid waste.

After visiting the RDF plant the Adviser visited the compost plant and took stock of method of making compost from wet garbage. He said that the compost prepared in the compost plant from wet garbage is of good quality and can be utilized in gardens and agriculture purpose as well.

He also visited Rose Garden, Sector 16 to see the Aerobic Compost pits over there, where he was briefed about the phases of compost preparation from drive leaves and horticulture waste. The Adviser asked the Chief Engineer, Chandigarh Administration for provision of such Aerobic compost pits to dispose off the horticulture waste generated by the horticulture wing of Chandigarh Administration.

Tree Plantation Drive at Livelihood Centre, Sec. 25, Chandigarh

Tree Plantation Drive at PU

Department of Life Long Learning & Extension (DLLL&E) in collaboration with the Horticulture Wing of Panjab University, celebrated ‘Van Mahotsav’ by organizing a Tree Plantation Drive in front of Emerging Area Building.

            Teachers, Staff and Students of DLLL&E and University Institute of Fashion Technology (UIFT) participated in the drive, observing all COVID-19 protocols.  Also, Prof. Monica Munjial and Dr. Gaurav Gaur, Chairperson of Social Work Department were present during the tree plantation.  To celebrate this day, a number of Ficus plants were planted.

MCC removes encroachments from sector 17 Mkt & Southern Sectors

Chandigarh, July 8: – The enforcement wing of Municipal Corporation Chandigarh today removed encroachments and illegal vendors stored different items on MCC land from sector 17 Market and outer areas of southern sectors.

Following the directions of Sh. K.K. Yadav, IAS, Municipal Commissioner, the enforcement team under the supervision of Sh. Rohit Gupta, Joint Commissioner, removed belongings of vendors who leave their sellable things on the sites around overbridge and central plaza area of sector 17 market. The drives were carried peacefully and no untoward incident took place.

In addition to that the enforcement teams lifted reharis of (Horse Carts) from southern sectors of Chandigarh and issued 25 challans to the violators.

The Joint Commissioner said that these type of drives will be carried out regularly as the vendors are authorized to do their business on the allotted sites and not to encroach upon Municipal land for storing the items including belongings to be used for routine vending.

Enforcement committee meeting held

Chandigarh, July 7:- A meeting of the Enforcement Committee, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh was held here today under the chairpersonship of Smt. Asha Jaswal and attended by other members of committee namely Sh. Shakti Parkash Devshali, Sh. Bharat Kumar, Sh. Charanjiv Singh, Smt. Ravinder Kaur Gujral, Sh. Mahesh Inder Singh Sidhu, Senior Deputy Mayor, MCC along with concerned officials of MCC and Inspectors of Enforcement wing, MCC.

* The Committee decided to add Hologram of MCC on the receipts given to vendors for authentication.

Sewerage Water Drainage pipeline laying work starts at sector 49/50

Mayor starts cleanliness drive at N-choe in sector 23

Chandigarh, July 5:- Sh. Ravi Kant Sharma, Mayor, Chandigarh today started a special cleanliness drive of N-choe running through various sectors of the city. The drive was formally started from sector 23 by cleaning of the choe including cutting of grass in the boundary area of choe and removing garbage along with plastic bags from the nullah.

The Mayor was accompanied by Sh. Shailender Singh, Chief Engineer, Sh. Krishan Pal Singh, SE, Horticulture, Sh. Arun Sood, councilor and Smt. Sunita Dhawan, area councilor, all concerned Executive Engineers and SDEs and representatives of resident welfare association.

During the drive, the horticulture division of MCC removed wild grass from the boundary areas besides pruning the trees along the footpath from adjoining parks. The sanitation department of MCC lifted the garbage from the choe besides the labour of B&R wing lifting malba from the both sides of choe.

The Mayor instructed all the MCC officials to clean the choe from the city part besides prepare a plan to clean all the water bodies including ponds in the villages throughout city.

Sanitation Committee meeting held

During the meeting the committee members discussed various important issues:

·        Pending Salaries may be given as per the reports of GPS watches as soon as possible.

·        As approved in the General House meeting, the list of the employees in all the wards to be provided to the respective area councillors.

·        Repair and maintenance of GPS watches be ensured.

·        The provision may be made of 200 no. cycles carts and 50 no. Hands carts.
