Prof. Rajat Sandhir of the Department of Biochemistry, Panjab University (PU) has been selected for the prestigious INSA Teacher Award for the year 2022. The award is instituted by the Indian National Science Academy (INSA) to recognize and honour teachers for providing guidance, inspiration, mentoring students to take up careers in science & technology. The award carries a scroll, Cash award of Rs 50,000/- and book grant of Rs 20,000/-.

Prof. Rajat Sandhir is a renowned neuroscientist who has been teaching at PU for more than two decades. Dr. Sandhir has received his M.Sc and Ph.D. degree in Biochemistry from the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh. His research interests are to understand the biochemical and molecular mechanisms involved in development of neurodegenerative conditions. Several of his students are holding reputed positions in research institutions, universities in India and abroad. He has published in many top-ranking journals and has mentored several students for during M.Sc. and Ph.D. He has an h-index of 49 and i10 index of 140. He is serving on the editorial board of many international journals and is a Fellow of Indian Academy of Neurosciences and Indian Academy of Biomedical Scientists. He has also been recipient of ‘KT Shetty Memorial Oration’ for year 2021 and “Mrs Abida Mahdi Award–2022” for outstanding contributions in the field of neurosciences. He has been featured among the Top 2% Scientists in the world released by Stanford University (USA).

Prof. Rajat Sandhir, Dr. Navdeep Goyal, Prof. Yojna Rawat, Prof. Sukhbir Kaur, Dr. Parveen Goyal and other Senators. Dr. Suman Sumi, PUTA and other PUTA members; Sh. Honey Thakur, President PUSA (NT) and other PUSA (NT) members, Mrs. Namita Gupta, Director, Public Relations, graced the occasion along with Wardens of Hostels and representatives of various Unions of Panjab University. The faculty, non-teaching employees, students and general public were present in large number.

The Chief Guest, along with other dignitaries, visited the Prof. R.C. Paul Rose Garden and various exhibitions put up by Natural Biodiversity, Enactus, Deptt. of Geology, Ankur School, Govt. Home Science College, Deptt. of Environment Science etc.. Prof. Vig, being a scientist herself, showed keen interest in exhibitions on various themes like environment, geology, waste management etc.. She admired the ambience of the garden and said that the Horticulture Division has put up a wonderful show. The other dignitaries also appreciated the efforts of Horticulture Division for maintaining the garden and organizing such a mega event. 

Er. Anil Thakur, Divisional Engineer (Hort.) and Organiser of the festival thanked the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, other P.U. Authorities and all stake holders of the festival and said that without their constant support and guidance, we cannot organise such a mega event. He apprised the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor that the Panjab University Rose Festival is one of its kind event in Panjab University where all teaching, non-teaching employees and their wards and students, participate with full enthusiasm. He further introduced the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor to an added event this year, exhibition on Horticulture aspects of Panjab University. The Horticulture Division is always committed towards excellence in whatever it organizes and will strive to achieve better in future.

Flower Competition was also held today. About 400 participants put up their displays in the competition in 92 categories.

The visitors were seen enjoying the performances of Folk Artists, Nachhar, Kachhi Godi, Stick Walkers etc., arranged by North Zone Cultural Centre.

In the evening, Hasya Kavi Sammelan was held at Old Convocation Ground, on 24.02.2023 at 6:00 pm. A new event introduced this year, Open Mic, wherein singers, comedians and other artists can showcase their talent was also held in the evening.

On the second day of the festival, competitions of Rangoli and Painting will be organized. During the evening Parwaz Rock Band Performance & Laughter Show by Sh. Jagdeep Singh Bheema will be held at Old Convocation Ground followed by Mr. & Ms. Rose Competition. On third day, competitions of Rose Prince & Rose Princess and Fancy Dress will be organized. The Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Panjab University will crown the winners of Rose Prince & Rose Princess Competition. During the evening, Performance by Punjabi Singer Lovejeet & Punjabi Singer Jassi Khan will be held at Old Convocation Ground.

ANNUAL SPORTS MEET 2023 AT USOL

University School of Open Learning, (USOL), Panjab University, Chandigarh, organized its annual sports meet today, i.e. February 23, 2023 at University Sports ground with enthusiasm.  In his address to the audience, the guest of honour, a distinguished sports person, currently posted as a Deputy Superintendent of Police with Punjab Government, Mr Dharamvir Singh stressed the importance of regular practice and discipline for excelling in the field of sports. Good team work, cooperation and coordination among the players are essential for exemplary performance and output. The USOL Chairperson, Prof Neeru welcomed the dignitaries, faculty members and students and motivated the participants, saying that struggle and sacrifice are crucial for the sport persons. The University registrar, Prof Y. P. Verma also graced the occasion and appreciated the efforts and initiatives of the USOL staff to make the event a success.  USOL faculty members including Dr Reena Chaudhary, Dr Anil Kumar and Dr.Richa Sharma as coordinators put their best in organising the event. Students, teaching and non-teaching staff members took part in such sport activities as race, long jump, three legged race, shot put, sit-ups, one minute basket, and tug of war. The winners who stood 1st, 2nd and 3rd were conferred upon medals. The best athletes (men) and (women) were identified as Mr Vineet Kumar and Ms Ritham Singh respectively. Approximately 60 students participated in the event.

चंडीगढ़, 23 फरवरी – हरियाणा के मुख्यमंत्री श्री मनोहर लाल, जो वित्त मंत्री भी हैं, ने आज हरियाणा विधानसभा के बजट सत्र में अमृत काल में हरियाणा का पहला बजट प्रस्तुत किया। मुख्यमंत्री ने वित्त मंत्री के नाते हरियाणा के इतिहास का आज तक का सबसे बड़ा बजट पेश करते हुए वित्त वर्ष 2023-24 के लिए 1,83,950 करोड़ रुपये का बजट प्रस्तुत किया। बजट में सभी वर्गों का ख्याल रखा गया और बजट में कोई नया कर भी नहीं लगाया गया।

श्री मनोहर लाल ने बजट प्रस्तुत करते हुए वृद्धावस्था पेंशन में 2,750 रुपये प्रतिमाह करने की घोषणा की। साथ ही, उन्होंने वृद्धावस्था पेंशन पात्रता आय 2 लाख से बढ़ाकर 3 लाख रुपये करने की घोषणा की। सरकारी आई.टी.आई. में प्रवेश लेने वाली 3 लाख रुपये वार्षिक से कम पारिवारिक आय वाली हर लड़की को 2,500 रुपये वित्तीय सहायता दी जाएगी।

उन्होंने कहा कि सरकार ने बजट में हरियाणा परिवार सुरक्षा न्यास की स्थापना, अंत्योदय परिवारों के लिए 1 लाख घर, चिरायु-आयुष्मान भारत योजना का लाभ 3 लाख रुपये वार्षिक तक आय वाले परिवारों को भी प्रदान करने, लैंड पूलिंग, लैंड पार्टनरशिप और ई-भूमि के माध्यम से 10 औद्योगिक सेक्टर और 10 शहरों में आवासीय सेक्टर को विकसित करने और नगरों में नवीनीकरण शुल्क के बकाया ब्याज राशि पर छूट योजना सहित कई नये आयाम जोड़े हैं।

उन्होंने कहा कि बजट सभी के लिए कल्याणकारी है। अब पत्रकारों को कैशलेस मेडिकल सुविधा मिलेगी। चोटिल खिलाड़ियों के पोषण व पुर्नवास के लिए राष्ट्रीय स्तर के वैज्ञानिक खेल प्रशिक्षण और पुनर्वास केंद्र बनाये जाएंगे। आंगनवाड़ी वर्कर्स व चौकीदारों को भी चिरायु योजना का लाभ मिलेगा। इसके साथ-साथ प्राकृतिक खेती के प्रोत्साहन के लिए बजट में विशेष प्रावधान किया गया है। सब बच्चों को शिक्षा मिले, इसके लिए 6 से 18 वर्ष के हर बच्चे की मैपिंग की जाएगी।

बजट में नहीं लगाया गया कोई नया कर

श्री मनोहर लाल ने बजट प्रस्तुत करते हुए कहा कि वर्ष 2023-24 का बजट संशोधित अनुमान वर्ष 2022-23 के 1,64,808 करोड़ रुपये से 11.6 प्रतिशत अधिक है। वित्त वर्ष 2023-24 के बजट में कोई नया कर नहीं लगाया गया है।

उन्होंने कहा कि उनका सौभाग्य है कि उन्हें अमृत काल का हरियाणा का पहला बजट प्रस्तुत करने का अवसर मिला है। यह बजट विकसित भारत के विराट संकल्प को पूरा करने के लिए एक मजबूत नींव का निर्माण करेगा। हम 2047 में समृद्ध भारत, समर्थ भारत, हर प्रकार से सम्पन्न भारत बनाकर रहेंगे। 

सतत् विकास के लक्ष्यों की प्राप्ति के लिए कुल बजट का 65.8 प्रतिशत आवंटित

वित्त मंत्री ने बताया कि वर्ष 2023-24 के बजट आवंटन को सतत् विकास के लक्ष्यों (एसडीजी) से संरेखित किया है। राज्य में लागू किए जा रहे एसडीजी की प्राप्ति के उद्देश्य से 1,83,950 करोड़ रुपये के कुल परिव्यय में से 1,20,958 करोड़ रुपये का आवंटन किया है, जो कि 65.8 प्रतिशत है। यह आवंटन उन स्कीमों के लिए किया गया है, जो सतत् विकास लक्ष्य हासिल करने के लिए क्रियान्वित की जा रही हैं।

उन्होंने कहा कि यह बजट अन्य वित्त वर्षों के बजट से हटकर है। 25 साल बाद जब हम आजादी का शताब्दी वर्ष मनाएंगे, तो हरियाणा खुशहाली और समृद्धि के मामले में कैसा होगा, इसकी परिकल्पना कर के इस बजट में उन्नत हरियाणा के निर्माण की नींव डालने की रूपरेखा तय की है।

उन्होंने कहा कि बजट में पूंजीगत परिसम्पत्ति के सृजन के लिए 57,879 करोड़ रुपये के परिव्यय, जो कि 31.5 प्रतिशत तथा राजस्व परिव्यय के लिए 1,26,071 करोड़ रुपये, जोकि 68.5 प्रतिशत है, का प्रस्ताव किया गया है।

विकास दर 7.1 प्रतिशत रहने का अनुमान

वित्त मंत्री ने कहा कि यह बजट सतत विकास लक्ष्य (एसडीजी) विजन-2030 के अनुसार राज्य के विकास के लिए हमारी प्रतिबद्धता को भी प्रकट करता है। हरियाणा का भारत के सकल घरेलू उत्पाद (जीडीपी) में लगभग 3.86 प्रतिशत का योगदान है, जो कि इसके आकार या जनसंख्या के अनुपात से कहीं अधिक है। हरियाणा के लिए यह गर्व की बात है कि वर्ष 2022-23 में जीएसडीपी विकास दर 7.1 प्रतिशत रहने का अनुमान है।

जीडीपी में हरियाणा की हिस्सेदारी वर्ष 2014-15 में 3.52 प्रतिशत से बढ़कर वर्ष 2022-23 में 3.86 प्रतिशत

51st  Rose Festival wind up with the great Light & sound show

Chandigarh, February 19:- Cultural function, performances and competitions marked the conclusion of the three-day Chandigarh Rose Festival at Rose Garden, Sector 16, Chandigarh with the Adviser to the Administrator Sh. Dharm Pal, IAS distributing various prizes to the winners of all competitions held during the Rose Festival.

Sh. Anup Gupta, Mayor, Chandigarh, Sh. Nitin Kumar Yadav, IAS, Secretary Local Government, Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh, other senior officers and councilors of MCC were also present during the occasion.

The Adviser to the Administrator, Chandigarh was the chief guest on the occasion and distributed prizes to winners of various competitions, participants of cultural events, band parties as well as gardeners. The Adviser lauded the efforts of all the team of officers to make the Rose festival success. Councilors and all senior officers were present during the prize distribution function.

On the occasion of the Rose festival there were so many programs that were performed on the third day.

 The third day was started with yoga session followed by Morning Raga, which is a classical performance by Swar Ragini mestro Pt. Subhash Ghosh ji.

After this various folk dances were also performed by different groups to showcase various cultures of India and performances include Devrath folk dance, Bhangra, kalbelia, ghoomar. After this renowned Magician Pardeep Kumar had performed a very great magic show for everyone and all this performances enthralled the public alot.

And finally very beautiful the light and sound show just melted the hearts of the audience by its attractiveness.

Experiential Learning of Students of UIFT through industrial Visit to Apparel Industry

In order to get an insight into the real working environment and the processes followed in apparel industry, an industrial visit to Ludhiana was organized by UIFT for its Master’s students. The students visited two apparel units namely Vardhman Apparels and Neva Garments Ltd, Ludhiana. The complete process of manufacturing of Shirts, innerwear, lingerie, athleisure garments from fabric inspection to cutting, production, finishing and packaging were closely observed by the students. Interactions with the designers, merchandisers, quality control head at the industry helped them to clear many queries. There were discussions on how designing and marketing are conducted for the domestic market. The specialized machines with various attachments to accomplish high quality garments was another important part of the visit. This visit helped the students to correlate the theoretical concepts of textile texting, quality management, production etc. with the practical and experiential exposure through this industrial visit.

Governor inaugurates the 51st edition of Rose Festival at Rose Garden

Chandigarh, February 17:- The much awaited 51st Rose Festival started here at Rose Garden amid pump and show. The three days festival has been formally inaugurated by Sh. Banwarilal Purohit, Governor, Punjab and Administrator, UT, Chandigarh in the presence of Smt. Kirron Kher, Member Parliament and Sh. Anup Gupta, Mayor, Chandigarh.

Smt. Raakhi Gupta Bhandari, IAS, Principal Secretary to Governor, Sh. Nitin Kumar Yadav, IAS, Secretary Local Govt., Sh. Vijay Namdeorao Zade, IAS, Finance Secretary, Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS, Commissioner, MC Chandigarh, Sh. Kanwarjeet Singh, Senior Deputy Mayor, Sh. Saurabh Joshi, area councilor, other councilors, prominent persons of the city and officers of Chandigarh Administration and Municipal Corporation were present during the inaugural ceremony.

While addressing the gathering, the Governor appreciated the efforts done by all the MC employees and officers to make this festival a grand success. He said that people from all walks of life can enjoy here with the arrangements and different showcase of flowers and cultural items for all age groups would be organized.

He said although all flowers have a unique character and beauty, but rose is one of the most popular flowers worldwide.  It is known as the ‘Queen of Flowers’. In terms of literature, the flower has been glorified as symbol of love, compassion and eternal beauty.

He said that Chandigarh Rose Garden has been planned in such a way that a walk through the garden is like reading a story. He said that this 3-day Rose festival is a way to pay tribute to the magnificence of the roses and a mega celebration of Nature.

The Governor said that what makes Chandigarh Rose Festival unique and special is the high level of local public participation. I am happy that the citizens can take joy in this year’s Rose Festival and a variety of engaging events and the Light and Sound show that is being organized by the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation in the very first time in history.

The Governor also remembered Dr. M.S. Randhawa who conceptualized the Chandigarh Rose Festival and the third President of India, Dr. Zakir Hussain, after whom this rose garden has been named. He said both of them were keen horticulturists.

While addressing the gathering, Smt. Kirron Kher, Member Parliament said that people from all walks of life can enjoy here with the provisions and competitions of all age groups which would be organized in all three days such as Rose Prince & Princess, Mr. Rose & Miss. Rose and Rose King and Rose Queen for senior citizens. She also appreciated the MCC for organizing beautiful Light & Sound Show this time.

She further said it is a matter of great satisfaction to see the tremendous interest and enthusiasm has been shown by the different sections of society through their active participation in the Rose festival. With the concern of people towards conserving nature and natural resources increasing year after year, it is sure that the coming years will see more colorful flower shows in the city and greater participation and innovation in displaying the exhibits.

While welcoming the Chief Guest and other guests, Mr. Anup Gupta, Mayor said that to make the festival live new cultural activities have been arranged during three days event inside Rose Garden to cater all the visitors over there.

He said 831 varieties of roses in the garden and different hues decorating the landscape, breathtaking floral displays, innovative new designs and exotic exhibits are the high points of this flower show. While Brass and Pipe band competition, photography exhibition, Bollywood (Junior) artists show, cultural evening and mainly the Light and Sound show are the added charms to the show.

The Mayor said that this time the Corporation has given space for the food court, which was the utmost requirement of the general public and visitors to the Rose Festival as to serve them water and food at the garden itself. He said that proper arrangements of sanitation have been made during the three days Rose Festival. Display stalls to showcase the talent of beneficiaries of different schemes of DAY-NULM component, exhibits have been arranged for various Self Help Groups this time.

The Mayor said that this time the MCC has arranged this festival as Zero Waste event and displayed all the varieties of Roses through LED screens inside the park. Keeping in view the mass awareness, the MCC has showcased various displays of Swachh Bharat Mission besides launching ‘Swachhata Ke Puzzles” small jigsaw puzzles pictures on various themes i.e. Segregation of Waste, four type of wastes, no littering in public place and say no to plastic products.

Sh. Saurabh Joshi, area councilor thanked the Chief Guest and all the guests during the inaugural programme. He said that this is the Mega Show organized by Municipal Corporation for the citizens of Chandigarh to enjoy flower arrangements amid the cultural beats is really appreciable.

Earlier, the Chief Guest inaugurated the Selfie booth and Swachhata Stall at the Garden, where display of various schemes under Swachh Survekshan-2023 has been arranged including Segregation of Waste at source level, Say no to Plastic and onsite composting from kitchen waste etc.

Artists from various parts of country performed in the main stage and in the ground throughout the day followed by Rajasthani dance, Bean Jogi, Himachali Nati, Ghoomar, Bhavai and cultural evening which includes the performance of duplicate artists from Mumbai Anil kapoor, Shah Rukh Khan and Mallika Sherawat and then finally the Light and Sound Show for the citizens of Chandigarh and other visitors at the Rose Garden.  

During the evening “Folk Dance Competition” was organized in the main stage of Rose Garden, in which teams of young artists from different colleges of Chandigarh performed various items.

Chandigarh, February 15:The 51st Rose Festival shall open to a majestic opening on February 17th February amidst blooming roses in Rose Garden Sector 16, Chandigarh. For the 51st edition of the three day mega event, the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh has teamed up for making all out preparations to adorn the beautiful Rose Garden, in order to host the annual event and make it a big one festival in the city and therefore three days high entertainment Light and Sound shows are being arranged for the first time in City beautiful from 17th to 19th February from 7.00 pm onwards for Public and visitors during this weekend.

While sharing the details of the 51st edition of Rose Festival, Sh. Anup Gupta, Mayor, Chandigarh said that the Rose Festival in Chandigarh will commence from 17th February and will continue consecutively for three days upto 19th February, 2023.

The Mayor said that the most awaited Rose Festival will get a colourful boost on 17th February, Friday, wherein the Governor, Punjab and Administrator, UT, Chandigarh, Sh. Banwarilal Purohit will inaugurate the festival at the Zakir Rose Garden amidst immense enthusiasm. The lively ceremony will commence with the beating of drums, playing of bands, folk dance performances displayed by different states, showcasing of regional art forms and flower arrangements.

He said that the event will be inaugurated on this Friday, amidst beautiful flower decoration at Rose Garden with thousands of visitors thronging to be a part of this festivity. Since, Rose Festival is an event dipped in entertainment and topped up with glamour quotient, thereby three special cultural evenings will be organized on all three days besides Light & Sound show on the theme of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.

He said that this time all the competitions will be organized as previous years after 3 years during which the competitions were not arranged due to COVID guidelines. Regular entertaining events by prominent artists from different parts of the country on each day, the colourful festival is bound to take people to an enviable world of excitement and thrill never seen before in Chandigarh.

The University School of Open Learning, Panjab University Chandigarh organised its Annual Alumni Meet on 11th February 2023 in collaboration with Panjab University Alumni Association. More than 150 Alumni of the various disciplines from Commerce, Management, Economics, Political Science, Public Administration, Education, Statistics, History, English, Hindi, Punjabi, Mass Communication and from various Diploma and certificate courses Participated with a lot of enthusiasm. The Chief guest of the event was Prof. Sanjay Kaushik, DCDC, Panjab University, Chandigarh. Registrar Prof. Y. P. Verma, DSW Prof. Jitender Grover, and Prof. Sanjeev Sharma, Director IQAC, Panjab University, Chandigarh were also present at this occasion.

The guests of honour were Mr. Dinesh Seth, Senior Vice President, HDFC Bank and Mr. Gurjot Singh Director, Vigilance, Punjab Police.

 Prof. Geeta Bansal, convener of the USOL AluminI cell welcomed and thanked the alumnus for the best Guru Dakshina that they could have given to USOL Faculty so far, followed by the address by Professor Anupama Sharma Dean Alumni Relations and Prof. Neeru, Chairperson USOL. The highlight of the event was the release of The USOL Alumni E – Coffee Table Book showcasing the achievements of the USOL alumni, along with a video of USOL sharing the glimpses of its glorious journey so far.

The main segment of the event was ‘Felicitation of the Alumni’ where they walked down the memory lane and shared their experiences of USOL and its role in their personal and professional lives.

The post lunch cultural programme was conducted by Dr. Richa Sharma and Dr. Kamla where the Alumni participated with much gusto and fanfare. Dr. Richa Sharma welcomed and introduced Mrs. Jagjit Kaur Kahlon, a renowned social activist as the guest of honour at the cultural event and Mr. Jashan Singh as the celebrity singer who performed at the event. The event ended on a high note, with participants enthusiastically taking the memories back home at the specially created Selfie Point at the USOL Plaza.

चंडीगढ़, 12 फरवरी: काली अवतार श्री रामकृष्ण, मां सारदा और स्वामी विवेकानंद की आठ अलौकिक जीवन गाथाओं पर आधारित दिव्य संध्या ‘श्यामा सुधा तरंगिणी’ ने आज शाम यहां समां बांध दिया और दर्शक भाव-विभोर हो गए।


रामकृष्ण मिशन आश्रम (चंडीगढ़) के सहयोग से कालीबाड़ी चंडीगढ़ द्वारा टैगोर थिएटर में आयोजित इस भावपूर्ण कार्यक्रम में ठाकुर-मां-स्वामी जी की पावनत्रयी के माध्यम से दिव्य मां श्यामा की लीलाओं की नाटकीय प्रस्तुति देखते ही बनती है। इस पावनत्रयी के प्रशंसकों और श्रद्धालुओं ने टैगोर थिएटर में आयोजित इस दिव्य कार्यक्रम में बढ़ चढक़र दिलचस्पी ली।


कालीबाड़ी चंडीगढ़ की इस सर्वाधिक महत्वाकांशी एवं चुनौतीपूर्ण प्रस्तुति से यह दिव्य लीलाएं जीवित हो उठीं। देवी वंदना और शास्त्री नृत्य में गुम्फित यह आठ छोटी कहानियां 40 कलाकारों द्वारा बेहद शानदार ढंग से प्रस्तुत की गईं। इन्हें देखना वास्तव में ही जीवनभर का एक सुंदर अनुभव रहा।


लेखिका एवं निर्देशिका अमृता गांगुली ने अपने विशेष अनुभव से इस प्रस्तुति में वाकई जान डाल दी। यह वास्तव में इन्हीं के मस्तिष्क की उपज है। शिबासिश दास गुप्ता और अर्चितापलित ने उनका बराबर सहयोग किया।


मां सारदा के रूप में त्रिषा पाठक, रामकृष्ण के तौर पर शिबासिश दासगुप्ता और विवेकानंद की भूमिका में आयुषमान गांगुली ने दर्शकों पर अपनी कला की अमिट छाप छोड़ी। शेष कलाकारों ने भी अपनी भूमिका में जान डालने में कोई कसर नहीं रखी।
