A two day International Conference on Recent Trends in Biomolecules and Therapeutics organized by Department of Biophysics, Panjab University Chandigarh was inaugurated on Thursday. Prof. Dulal Panda, Director, NIPER, Mohali was the Chief Guest on the occasion. Prof Panda in his remarks addressing the gathering emphasized on how different disciplines need to come together and work in cohesion.

In the Presidential Address, Prof Harsh Nayyar, Director Research and Development Cell, Panjab University too emphasized on the importance of collaborative research work with unified efforts across disciplines. Prof. Rajeev Mohan who is a Curators’ Distinguished Professor of Ophthalmology andMolecular Medicine and Endowed Chair Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Missouri, Columbia, USA joined the conference as the Plenary Speaker. Prof. Mohan talked about the advancements in gene therapy and its contribution in treating corneal blindness.

The Chairperson and Organizing Secretary of the Conference, Dr. Avneet Saini informed that the conference is being attended by eminent scientists and researchers from across the globe, with speakers from America, Germany, London, Estonia and other parts of the country as well. The conference is being attended by more than 200 delegates with a few joining online. There shall be 24 Invited Talks, along with a dedicated session to Women in Science. Around 28 shortlisted Oral Presentations will be given by young researchers, Post doctoral fellows and Ph.D. Research Scholars besides more than 100 poster presentations over the span of two days.Marking23rd March as the Martyr’s Day the delegates also paid homage to the three Indian Freedom fighters -Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev Thapar and Shivaram Rajguruwho sacrificed their lives for the freedom of the nation in 1931.

Chandigarh, March 23:- Working towards providing better services to the shopkeepers and market areas of city beautiful, the Sh Anup Gupta, Mayor, Chandigarh chaired a meeting of all the Market Welfare Associations here today.

Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh, other senior officers of MCC and office bearers of all Market Welfare Associations of Chandigarh, attended the meeting.

During the meeting various issues were raised by the representatives of MWAs including achieving 100% digitally enabled system and creation of QR codes/scanners, vendors of some markets to be digitally enabled and advertisement of G-20 to be allowed free of cost.

The other important issues were also discussed during the meeting i.e. door to door waste collection from MWAs. The MWAs were asked to follow the norms of advertisement control order and use designated space for Advertisement on the SCOs; the issue regarding installation of Fire Safety measuers/equipments in markets at once was also discussed.

The office bearers of Market Welfare Associations discussed the issue of parking facilities in the markets as vacant plots, small neighbourhood parks which are not maintained may be converted into parking of vehicles for public convenience; on the spot e-challaning (collection of penalty and release of seized articles) this will save time as well as will least the damage of the seized articles.

The issue of unauthorized vendors was also discussed and the MWAs demanded that the unauthorized vendors should be removed and registered vendors may be shifted to vending zones besides MWAs be given at least one week’s time before carrying out any drive by enforcement staff for removal of illegal advertisements and issue of removal of illegal mechanics from sector 21, Chandigarh.

The Mayor assured all the Market Welfare Associations to resolve the issues pertaining to the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh at the earliest and take up the issues pertaining to Chandigarh Administration for their early disposal.

MCC observes “ Vishav Jal Divas” (World Water Day)

Chandigarh, March 22:- The Municipal Corporation Chandigarh observed “Vishav Jal Divas” (World Water Day) here today in order to highlight the importance of water and raise awareness of the world’s water issues.

City Mayor Sh. Anup Gupta administered a pledge to the officers and employees of MCC regarding the importance of water. They pledged to save water and use it judiciously. They also promised to utilize water responsibly and will save every single drop of water and sanitation to accelerate change to solve the crisis, and will give full cooperation in promoting the campaign. They pledged to consider water as a precious asset and believe so, they will use it. They also pledged to share this wise advice with their family, friends, and neighbors.

The main goal of observing this day was to support the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal 6, which aims to ensure access to clean water and sanitation for all people by 2030. The objective was to inspire people to manage freshwater resources sustainably and take necessary actions to address these issues.

The issues of water scarcity, water pollution, inadequate water supply, and poor sanitation facilities are highlighted on World Water Day. The day encourages people, communities, organizations, and governments to take the required steps to manage freshwater resources sustainably and address water-related difficulties by raising awareness of these issues.

F&CC approves renovation of Community Centre at EWS colony Maloya

Chandigarh, March 22:- The Finance and Contract committee of Municipal Corporation Chandigarh has decided to repair and renovate the Community Centre at EWS Colony Maloya, Chandigarh at an estimated cost of Rs. 23.10 lacs alongwith other developmental agenda items. This was decided in a meeting of F&CC held here today under the Chairmanship of Sh. Anup Gupta, Mayor and attended by Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS, Commissioner and other members of committee namely Sh. Dalip Sharma, Sh. Gurpreet Singh, Smt. Harpreet Kaur Babla, Ms. Neha, Smt. Prem Lata and other senior officers of MCC were also present during the meeting.

The members of committee discussed other various important agenda items in detail and accorded approval for the following:

· The work of procurement of standard mobile toilets vans & V.I.P mobile toilet van for use at public functions/railies etc. in U. T., Chandigarh at an estimated cost of Rs. 30.36 lacs

· The work for construction of main road of Khudda Lahora Colony No. 2, Chandigarh at an estimated cost of Rs. 34.39 lacs

· The work of repair of tin sheds and office situated at Motor Garage Industrial Area, Ph-I, Chandigarh at an estimated cost of Rs. 16.35 lacs

· Extension of three months to the present agreement of hiring of Leachate Suction Machine at Dumping Ground, Sector 38, Chandigarh at an estimated cost of Rs. 12.81 lacs

· Extension of two months to the present agreement of hiring of 04 JCB and 04 Tippers at an estimated cost of Rs. 30.72 lacs.

· Arrangement of programme for delegates during G20 meetings at an estimated cost of Rs. 13.00 lacs

· Providing and fixing of disabled parking friendly board, road marking and making ramp at an estimated cost of Rs. 12.28 lacs

· Supply and installation of UPS in M.C. Building, Sector 17, Chandigarh at an estimated cost of Rs. 7.34 lacs.

· The construction of walking track in the park near #3404, Sector 24, Chandigarh at an estimated cost of Rs. 9.11 lacs.

· Extension of 03 months for Operation and maintenance of Maloya, Gaushala by NGO.

· Extension of 03 months for Operation and maintenance of Sector 45 Gaushala by NGO.

· Extension of 03 months for Operation and maintenance of Sector 25 Gaushala by NGO.

· Providing and supplying furniture & electrical items in Councillor Office in Community Centre Thakur Drawa, Manimajra Chandigarh at an estimated cost of Ra. 5.11 lacs

· Construction of Slip Road from Sector 45 to V-3 Road Sector 33/45, Chandigarh at an estimated cost of Rs. 11.62 lacs. 

· Providing Furniture items at Community Centre, MHC, Manimajra, Chandigarh at an estimated cost of Rs. 2.31 lacs. 

· Construction of cement concrete flooring in category 3 Garage side in Modern Housing Complex, Manimajra, Chandigarh at an estimated cost of Rs. 44.19 lacs. 

· Hiring of 40 nos. Tractor trolleys through GeM for lifting of Horticulture Waste and MSW from the city.

Patiala Foundation to join hands with MCC on DAY-NULM projects

Chandigarh, March 22:- In a bid to advancing the goals of their flagship projects – iSEWA and iHERITAGE under DAY-NULM, the Patiala Foundation has joined hands with Municipal Corporation Chandigarh .

Under the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana-National Urban Livelihoods Program, a session was organized today to educate the women in the self-help groups about the use of Digital Business platforms to promote their products and businesses.

Sh. Ravee Singh Ahluwalia, CEO, Patiala Foundation, highlighted the need to empower the self help groups. Many SHG participants took part in the workshop, which included representatives from over 15 SHG groups. There, they learned how to use digital platforms to develop their company’s brand image and other information about online business activities.

The entire workshop module covered a wide range of topics, such as how to use the digital platform to market their skills and make better earnings, expand their customer base and create more employment opportunities.

Along with improved respect of their profession, this will also provide the traditional livelihood practitioners with chances for self-reliance and progress. This workshop was a step towards expanding the reach of the DAY-NULM programme, which will improve their quality of life and employment chances.

The training workshop included the process of installation of Digital Business platforms,the process of registration, creating business profiles, product catalogue, the way in which they can link to social media page and finally about the payment process. From this the women learned a lot of things and were also got provided with the detailed videos for future reference and learning.

MBA interns from SPJIMR MUMBAI Shradhanshu and Nikita Gupta conducted the workshop as a part of their Internship project work with the Patiala Foundation.

*Kirron Kher inaugurates Community centre at Ram Darbar*

Chandigarh March 15:- Smt. Kirron Kher, Member Parliament, UT, Chandigarh today inaugurated Community Centre at Ram Darbar, here in presence of Sh. Anup Gupta, Mayor, Sh. Dharm Pal, IAS, Adviser to the Administrator, Chandigarh, Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS, Commissioner, Ms. Neha, area councillor, other councilors and prominent persons of the area.

While addressing the gathering, the Member Parliament said that the Community centres offer an opportunity for people to become involved in a wide range of activities. They promote a sense of belonging and social inclusion. They provide a place where the community can meet and engage in collective activities. She said the centres are strategically located to serve the citizens which are used for cultural programmes, to organise marriages and for other social activities.

She said the idea of the community centre is to offer a place where all members of the community from young to old can meet for various activities. All too often it’s the only such place available in a community.

The Member Parliament said that the city beautiful has 45 Community Centres that cater for a variety of community activities. She said the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation not only facilitating the public in a better manner through centralizing the services of booking of Community Centres through e-Sampark, but keeping the system impartial in terms of booking these centres.

On the occasion, the Mayor Sh. Anup Gupta said that the Community Centre has been spread over an area of 1 acre. The total cost of Construction of this 3 storey building comes out to Rs. 07.32 Crore and the building comprises of facilities such as bride room, Gymnasium/Indoor games, senior citizen room, office/Sampark centre, stair case, lift, library, family room, store, entrance  lobby, gents & ladies toilet, pantry, kitchen, chowkidar room, sitting area, store/record room, toilet for disabled, etc. The said building has also a provision of parking for 22 cars. The Community centre is fully air-conditioned with provision of fire fighting and fire sensing also. The building is constructed as a Green building with 3 Star Griha Rating.

The Mayor said that this community centre will be a good asset to the residents of local area as they can organize parties and other programmes in very nominal government rates in their doorsteps.

Chandigarh, March 15:- Keeping in view the overall development of villages, Smt. Kirron Kher, Member Parliament, Chandigarh today laid the foundation stone of providing and fixing paver blocks on internal streets and construction of phirni road at village Kishangarh in the presence of Sh. Anup Gupta, Mayor, Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS, Commissioner, Smt. Suman Devi, area councilor, other councillors and other prominent persons of the area.

While addressing the gathering, the MP said that the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh is developing the infrastructure and basic amenities in the villages in very fast manner. She said that roads are being repaired and carpeted besides providing and fixing paver blocks in internal narrow streets.

She said that the MCC has also got these villages included in the prestigious 24×7 water supply project of the city so that these villages also get uninterrupted water supply round the clock for which the work is expected to start this year.

The Mayor said that the work of providing and fixing paver blocks has been allotted at the cost of Rs. 73.24 lacs. Recently the work of laying of Sewer and Storm was completed at the cost of Rs 1.16 cr. He further said that the 13 villages were transferred to MCC in the year 2018 and Municipal Corporation has took up the work of laying sewer storm and water supply in these villages at the cost of Rs 50 crores and the works are near completion .The roads will be constructed and repaired at cost of Rs 17 cores in these villages, he added.

चंडीगढ़, 14 मार्च:- 2 अप्रैल को यमुनानगर में कांग्रेस का ‘विपक्ष आपके समक्ष’  कार्यक्रम होने जा रहा है, जिसको लेकर प्रदेश कांग्रेस अध्यक्ष चौधरी उदयभान ने पंचकूला के कार्यकर्ताओं की बैठक ली। उन्होंने ‘विपक्ष आपके समक्ष’ कार्यक्रम को लेकर कार्यकर्ताओं की ड्यूटी लगाई। इस मौके पर खट्टर-दुष्यंत सरकार के खिलाफ हुंकार भरते हुए चौधरी उदयभान ने बताया कि इस कार्यक्रम के जरिए कांग्रेस हर वर्ग की आवाज सुनेगी और सरकार के काले कारनामों को जनता के बीच उजागर करेगी।  

उन्होंने कहा कि खट्टर-दुष्यंत सरकार ने प्रदेश को कर्ज में डूबो दिया है। सरकार की कुनीतियों के चलते हरियाणा की अर्थव्यवस्था पूरी तरह से चौपट हो गई है। जो प्रदेश कांग्रेस कार्यकाल में विकास में नंबर-1 होता था, आज वह प्रदेश 22वें नंबर पर पहुंच गया है। क्योंकि सरकार का पूरा जोर घोटालों को अंजाम देने पर है। रजिस्ट्री, शराब, खनन, भर्ती जैसे अनगिनत घोटालों को अंजाम देकर सरकार जनता का लाखों करोड़ रुपया डकार चुकी है। घोटालों की जांच के लिए बनाई गई एसआईटी ना तो कोई कार्रवाई करती और ना ही उसकी रिपोर्ट आती। 

प्रदेश अध्यक्ष ने कहा कि आज प्रदेश में शिक्षा व स्वास्थ्य व्यवस्था पूरी तरह से तहस-नहस हो गई है। ना तो स्कूलों में अध्यापक हैं और ना ही अस्पतालों में डॉक्टर हैं। यह सरकार स्कूलों को खोलने की बजाए बंद करने में लगी हुई है। आज सरकारी विभागों में 1 लाख 82 हजार पद खाली पड़े हुए हैं। लेकिन भर्तियों के नाम पर सरकार सिर्फ घोटाले कर रही है। हर भर्ती का पेपर लीक हो रहा है। चौधरी उदयभान ने कहा कि कांग्रेस जनता से जुड़े इन तमाम मुद्दों को रैली और विभिन्न कार्यकर्मों के जरिए जनता तक पहुंचाने का काम करेगी।

To provide aesthetic and beautiful look to the market, LED lights and high electric pole decorative lights will be provided within 45 days period of time at a cost of Rs. 14.92 lacs. Keeping in view better facilities, glass fiber reinforced polymer (GFRP) will be used in poles, which is shock proof and sturdy.
