*Chandigarh, January 1:-* City Mayor Sh. Anup Gupta and Municipal Commissioner Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS paid obeisance during the Akhand Paath Sahib, organized at Fire & Rescue Services department, Sector 17, here on the very first day of the New Year 2024.

They prayed for the peace, harmony and progress of the Municipal Corporation and prosperity of citizens of city beautiful. Greeting the people on the New Year, the Mayor and Commissioner wished a happy, peaceful and prosperous 2023 to the employees of the Corporation and citizens of Chandigarh. They reiterated the commitment of MCC to ensure that upgradation of the existing basic amenities and addition of the advanced technology in the services to enhance efficiency.

The Mayor and Commissioner held separate meetings with the officers and employees of different wings and wished them good health, peace and prosper year ahead.

*Chandigarh December 30:-* Aimed at promoting hygienic and safe sanitation practices in city, the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh has started providing and fixing prefabricated and portable toilet blocks and other allied works in vendor zones in the city beautiful.

City Mayor Sh. Anup Gupta today laid the foundation stone for providing and fixing prefabricated and portable toilet blocks and other allied works in vendors zone at EWS resettlement colony at Dhanhas in the presence of area councillor Sh Ram Chander Yadav, other officers of MCC and all the vendors of the zone at colony.

While sharing about the project, the Mayor said that this work will be completed within 3 months time period at a cost of Rs. 18.78 lacs. He said that it will provide basic amenities to more than 650 vendors and the visiting citizens also. He further said that there was a long pending demand from the vendors and after construction of this, it will give a great relief to the vendors and general public visiting vending zone for purchase of daily needs.

*Chandigarh, December 29:-* With the objective of providing smooth passage to the local residents, the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh has completed the construction of wing wall and back filling work at causeway over Sukhna choe bridge in industrial area Phase-1, Chandigarh.

City Mayor Sh. Anup Gupta accompanied by Chief Engineer, Superintending Engineers and concerned Executive Engineers visited the site and took stock of the work progress. The concerned engineers apprised the Mayor that the construction of wing wall and back filling work has almost been completed.

The Mayor asked the chief engineer that restricted movement on causeway may be allowed and the road will be opened to traffic for light motor vehicles from 2nd January, 2024. The Mayor further asked the concerned engineers to speed up the work and complete the rest work at the earliest.

*F&CC accords approval for provision of 17 more C&D Waste collection centres in Chandigarh*

*Chandigarh, December 26:-* The Finance and Contract committee of Municipal Corporation Chandigarh has accorded approval for construction of 17 additional C& D Waste collection points at various locations at Chandigarh at a cost of Rs. 40.97 lacs.

The F&CC meeting was held here today under the Chairmanship of Sh. Anup Gupta, Mayor and attended other members of committee namely Sh. Gurpreet Singh, Smt. Harpreet Kaur Babla, Ms. Neha and other senior officers of MCC.

The members of committee discussed other various important agenda items in detail and accorded approval for the following:

·         Extension of the contract for operation and maintenance of Gaushalas in Maloya and Sector 45, Chandigarh for a period w.e.f 01.11.2023 to 31.03.2024 at an estimated cost of Rs. 35.00 lacs.

·         Providing and laying of 600mm (24”) i/d & 450mm (18”) i/d RCC Pipe line alog with construction of New Machine Holes and Road Gullies Near Plot No. 29 MW Industrial area phase-I, Chandigarh for the smooth functioning of Storm Water drainage system at an estimated cost of Rs. 48.01 lacs.

·         Providing and laying of 300mm (12”) i/d Sewer Pipe line & construction of Machine holes for Strengthening of Sewerage system Near #976 to Gurudwara Sahib, Ramdarbar Colony, Ph-II, Chandigarh at an estimated cost of Rs. 26.73 lacs.

·          Construction of Shed, laying cement concrete flooring and store for casting unit at C& D Waste Processing Plant, Industrial area Ph-I, Chandigarh at an estimated cost of Rs. 17.60 lacs.

·         Upgradation of front of Market at Sector 29 C& D, Chandigarh at an estimated cost of Rs. 25.90 lacs.

·         Providing and fixing concertina coil fencing on boundary wall of Community Centre Sunder Nagar (Mauli Jagran Part-2), Chandigarh at an estimated cost of Rs. 03.79 lacs

·         Providing and fixing of Hut, Benches in Green Belt Part-II, Nagla Mohalla Manimajra Chandigarh at an estimated cost of Rs. 1.53 lacs.

·         The committee considered and accept reserved price of 03 nos. Old condemned vehicles of Fire & Rescue Service of Municipal Corporation Chandigarh.

·         Widening and Construction of Median at main entry of Parking of Sector 44-D Market, Chandigarh at an estimated cost of Rs. 2.27 lacs.

·         Providing & fixing of keep left board, cat-eyes & median marker on V-4 & V-5 road for improvement of road safety in Sector 44 & 51, Chandigarh at an estimated cost of Rs. 5.58 lacs.

MCC conducts Income Tax-TDS awareness seminar*

*Chandigarh, December 26:-* The Additional Commissioner of Income Tax, TDS range, Chandigarh in coordination with Municipal Corporation Chandigarh has conducted an Income Tax-TDS/TCS awareness programme including introduction of new provisions. The seminar was carried out at the conference hall, 6th floor, MCC building, Sector 17, Chandigarh.

Sh. Surinder Meena, Additional Commissioner of Income Tax, TDS range Chandigarh addressed the seminar, which was attended by Sh. Gurinder Sodhi, Joint Commissioner, all DDOs and officers/officials of responsible for TDS/TCS in MCC. Ms. Depinder Kaur, Deputy Commissioner, IT, Smt. Saroj Bala, Income Tax Officer were also present during the seminar.

The seminar was very informative and advisable in respect of new provisions of TDS/TCS.

While sharing about the initiative, Municipal Commissioner Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS stated that this revolutionary RRR approach to Christmas celebrations in Chandigarh is a testament to MC Chandigarh’s commitment to environmental consciousness and empowering communities. By repurposing discarded tyres and utilizing eco-friendly materials, the MCC is creating a sustainable and inclusive festive atmosphere. The MCC believe that through these efforts, it can inspire individuals and communities to adopt a greener and more responsible approach to celebrating Christmas.

She said that the RRR principle has guided the decision to repurpose old and used tyres from MC Chandigarh’s field vehicles, demonstrating the importance of waste reduction and environmental consciousness. The carefully designed structure of the tree showcases the durability and versatility of tyres, offering an eco-friendly alternative to traditional Christmas trees.

She further said that in addition to the innovative Christmas tree, MC Chandigarh has opted for decorations made from recycled and eco-friendly materials crafted by Self-Help Groups (SHGs). By utilizing repurposed materials such as paper, fabric, and natural fibers, MC Chandigarh promotes responsible consumption and raises awareness about sustainable practices. These decorations not only enhance the festive ambiance but also carry a powerful message of environmental consciousness and the value of recycling.

The Commissioner said that to promote sustainable and eco-friendly shopping options, MC Chandigarh is featuring a special display offering handcrafted decorative accessories by SHGs. Citizens can find a range of visually appealing items such as Santa Claus figurines, Christmas trees, and decorative accessories like candles, all made from wool, crochet, paper, and other waste and recycled materials. By purchasing these sustainable products, citizens actively contribute to waste reduction, support local artisans/communities, and foster a more sustainable economy.

She further said that the MC Chandigarh display encourages responsible consumption and empowers citizens to make a positive impact on the environment. By choosing handmade items crafted by SHGs, individuals embrace a greener and more responsible approach to celebrating Christmas. MC Chandigarh believes that these initiatives will inspire individuals and communities to adopt sustainable practices throughout the festive season and beyond.

*Chandigarh, December 20:-* Reaffirming its steadfast commitment to the welfare of its sewermen through imparting training to operate latest technologies besides gathering valuable insights and data that will contribute to improving the lives and working conditions of sanitation workers.

City Mayor Sh. Anup Gupta inaugurated the first camp at the Sewer Maintenance Booth in Water Works, Sector-32, here today in the presence of the senior officers of MCC and prominent persons of the local area.

While briefing about the Namaste survey camps, the Mayor said that to ensure convenience for the workers, the camp has been strategically established at 12 Maintenance booth locations citywide, facilitating easy access and participation. This comprehensive approach aims to gather valuable insights and data that will contribute to improving the lives and working conditions of sanitation workers.

He said that the welfare of the sewermen is of utmost importance to the Corporation. By implementing advanced technologies and adopting the NAMASTE scheme, the MCC is ensuring their safety, dignity, and well-being. The department is dedicated to providing a cleaner and healthier environment for all city residents.

Highlighting the significance of the NAMASTE scheme, Municipal Commissioner Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS said that NAMASTE scheme is a testament to our commitment to improving sanitation conditions and promoting the welfare of sanitation workers in urban India. Through this initiative, the Govt. aims to create a comprehensive support system for Sewer Workers, offering them access to various benefits and skill-building opportunities.

She further added, “Since 2016, MC Chandigarh has taken significant steps to eliminate manual cleaning of sewer pipes, adhering to regulatory mandates. The implementation of cutting-edge technology, including Bandicoot sewer cleaning robots, de-silting grabbing machines, de-silting suction machines, sewer inspection cameras, power rodding machines, and sewer root-cutting equipment, aims to eradicate the need for manual waste cleaning and management, ensuring the safety and well-being of the sewermen.

She said that the MC Chandigarh remains committed to implementing innovative initiatives and adopting advanced technologies to improve the welfare and safety of its sewermen. The NAMASTE profiling/survey camp represents a significant step forward in this ongoing endeavor.

The Commissioner said that the NAMASTE scheme focuses on mechanizing cleaning operations of sewers and septic tanks. Its primary objectives include improving sanitation conditions and promoting the welfare of sanitation workers in urban India. The scheme is facilitated by the National Safai Karamcharis Finance & Development Corporation (NSKFDC) and aims to create a digital database of Sewer and Septic Tank Workers employed by Urban Local Bodies (ULBs), providing them with support, skill-building opportunities, and access to social and financial benefits.

She further said that the NAMASTE scheme aims to provide entitlements, alternative livelihood support, and capital subsidies for sanitation-related projects under the Swachchhta Udyami Yojana (SUY) scheme. These initiatives are designed to reduce vulnerabilities and break the intergenerational cycle of sanitation work, ensuring the well-being and dignity of the workforce. The scheme also focuses on fostering behavioral change among stakeholders and promoting the demand for safe sanitation services.

*Chandigarh, December 18:-* “Sis Marg Yatra” (Nagar Kirtan) of Shree Guru Teg Bahadur Ji Shaheedi divas started from Delhi on December 16 welcomed by the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh at MCC Petrol Pump near Hallomajra chowk, here today morning.

The Municipal Corporation Chandigarh has organized “Welcome Programme” near Hallomajra chowk, Chandigarh by erecting welcome gate, during which Sh. Anup Gupta, Mayor, Sh. Damanpreet Singh, Sh. Jasbir Singh Laddi, Ms. Neha, councillors of MCC, Secretary of Municipal Corporation Sh. Gurinder Sodhi and other officers of MCC, other dignitaries were present during the programme.

The Mayor honoured the dignitaries accompanying the Nagar Kirtan with “Siropas” and distributed “Tea and bread pakora” Parsad to the pilgrim. The MCC also arranged proper sanitation system before the procession and after procession.

Hundreds of people lined up en route to welcome the procession in the welcome site and pay obeisance of Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji.

MCC Commissioner reviews the operations of SPCA*

*Chandigarh, December 18:-* The Municipal Commissioner orders to maintain 24×7 roaster rigester for efficient execution at the Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA).

A comprehensive review meeting of the operation of SPCA was held under the Chairpersonship of Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh, which was attended by other members of the society and concerned officers of Chandigarh Administration and MCC.

Focusing on the operations of the SPCA, a proposal was discussed in detail to establish a 24×7 roster for efficient execution at the SPCA.

Additionally, it was also decided to organize a collaborative site visit to assess and address essential aspects such as building infrastructure, electrical systems, and underground sewage. Various initiatives to enhance the functionality of the SPCA were deliberated, with plans to propose and implement actions for improvement.

*Chandigarh, December 14:-* Aimed to explore and showcase innovative solutions that can transform cities into smarter, more sustainable, and inclusive urban spaces, the 4th Elets National Urban Innovation Summit held here today at hotel Lalit.

Hosted by Chandigarh Smart City Ltd. and Municipal Corporation Chandigarh in collaboration with Elets Technomedia, the summit featured prominent speakers, including Sh. Anup Gupta, Mayor of Chandigarh; Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS, CEO, Chandigarh Smart City Limited and Commissioner, Chandigarh Municipal Corporation; Dr. Ramakant, Deputy Advisor at the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India; Ravi Prakash Gupta, Secretary of the Department of Revenue, Government of Haryana; and Hargunjit Kaur, Special Secretary of the Department of Finance, Chandigarh Administration, among others, who shared their expertise and set the stage for meaningful dialogue on urban innovation.

She further  emphasized the importance of citizen engagement and proactive involvement in achieving positive outcomes through ICT-based urban innovation.

The summit also saw the launch of a special eGov magazine dedicated to showcasing Chandigarh’s remarkable transformation as the best-planned city in India. It recognized and honored urban innovators through a series of awards, celebrating the remarkable efforts and initiatives undertaken by these urban innovators to enhance urban living environments.

The summit received strong support from esteemed partners, including the Smart City Mission, Government of India; Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL); Haryana State Electronics Development Corporation Limited (HARTRON); Haryana Renewable Energy Development Agency (HAREDA); Punjab Urban Planning and Development Authority (PUDA), and Associate Partners, including L&T, Canara Bank, Sygmatech, Hitachi, and Tata Projects.
