*Chandigarh, July 10:-* Sh. Amit Kumar, IAS, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh visited Government Model Senior Secondary School (GMSSS), Sector 23-A (NYC), Chandigarh today to review the school’s infrastructure, facilities, and student engagement. He was warmly received by Principal Ms. Ripjot Kaur, teaching staff, and students.

During his visit, the Commissioner interacted with teachers and students, engaging with them in classrooms and asking questions related to their academics and extracurricular interests. He motivated the students to work hard and shared valuable tips on how to excel in exams. He emphasized that apart from academic studies, students should adopt a broader outlook to build a bright and well-rounded future.

Sh. Amit Kumar also reviewed the Multimedia Smart Classrooms and encouraged the use of technology in teaching. He urged the school authorities to chalk out a plan for enhancing multimedia infrastructure to better support modern education methods.

The Commissioner advised the school to train students in waste management practices, especially focusing on segregation of household waste at the source level. He emphasized the importance of life skills and environmental awareness in school education.

In addition, he reviewed the available resources in the school and instructed the authorities to assess future requirements in infrastructure, sports, cultural activities, and extracurricular development.

*Mayor launches Street Vendor Mobile App & Web Portal for seamless digital access to vendors*

*Chandigarh, July 10:-* To promote ease of doing business for registered street vendors in Chandigarh, Smt. Harpreet Kaur Babla, Mayor, and Sh. Amit Kumar, IAS, Commissioner, today inaugurated the Street Vendor Mobile App and Vendor Cell Web Portal of the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh.

While speaking on the occassion, City Mayor said that developed by the Society for Promotion of Information Technology, Chandigarh (SPIC), the initiative aims to empower street vendors through digital convenience and administrative transparency.

She further said that the Street Vendor Mobile App, available on Android, enables registered vendors to make online payments for various fees such as monthly vending charges (stationary/mobile), ID card, challan, registration, and renewal fees. It also allows vendors to:

• View and download their complete payment history and receipts.

• Access and download their Provisional Vending Certificate.

• Submit service requests like mobile number updates.

• Receive notifications about upcoming or pending payments.

• Use the app in English, Hindi, or Punjabi.

In addition, the newly launched Vendor Cell Web Portal (https://mcchandigarh.gov.in/Vendor/index.aspx) serves as a comprehensive digital platform for vendor-related services and administrative oversight. Key highlights include:

• Access to vendor bylaws, policies, and fee-related information.

• Status verification tools for vendors.

• Maps of all designated vending zones and sites.

• A public dashboard with real-time insights into daily transactions, total active vendors, and fee collection.

Speaking about these services, MC  Commissioner said that this digital platform is a step towards empowering our street vendors by ensuring convenience, transparency, and timely access to essential services. He said the MCC is committed to modernizing civic services. With this digital transformation, it aims to streamline vendor-related operations and improve service delivery.

As part of the program, 20 ID Cards and 20 Certificates of Vending (COVs) were distributed to registered street vendors. The digital platforms will serve as a centralized hub for vendor services, including information of their fee status etc.

The Municipal Corporation Chandigarh is exploring the introduction of a city-wide monthly car parking pass priced at ₹500/-. The proposed pass would be valid for use in all paid parking areas under MCC’s jurisdiction and would allow unlimited entries and exits, offering a more convenient and cost-effective option for regular car users.

To ensure the proposal reflects the needs and preferences of city residents, the MCC decided that public opinion would be sought before finalizing the policy. The MCC invites citizens to participate in a short consultation survey and share their views on this initiative.

Sh. Amit Kumar, IAS, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh took immediate and strict action after catching four outsourced MC employees consuming liquor within the premises of the community centre at Dhanas. The incident occurred during a surprise late evening inspection of various community centres across the city.

The four employees, all outsourced workers including Shakti and Gurjeet Horticultural wing, Sector 16 Shanti kunj, Robin and Ajay Kumar, Road Sub Division no 4 from the B&R (Building & Roads) wing of the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh, were found drinking liquor inside the office located within the community centre building.

Taking serious note of the misconduct, the Commissioner ordered to terminate the services of these four employees immediately besides issuing a show cause notice to the concerned Junior Engineer (JE) of the B&R wing, who is responsible for the maintenance and care of the Dhanas community centre and all MCC property associated with it. The JE has been directed to appear in person at the Commissioner’s office by 12:00 noon tomorrow (July 10, 2025) along with a written reply. Failure to comply will lead to appropriate disciplinary proceedings as per rules.

The Commissioner has also issued clear instructions to all Executive Engineers and Junior Engineers to ensure strict supervision, proper upkeep, and responsible management of all Municipal Corporation properties, particularly community centres.

Sh. Amit Kumar reiterated that any form of negligence, indiscipline, or misuse of public property will not be tolerated and strict administrative action will be taken against those found guilty.

MC Chandigarh removes ropes and obstructions from street light poles to ensure public safety

*Chandigarh, July 8:-* The Municipal Corporation Chandigarh has conducted a safety drive across various parts of the city, particularly in colony areas, to remove ropes tied by residents to street light poles for drying clothes. These ropes posed significant safety risks due to their proximity to live electrical infrastructure.

The MCC team not only removed the ropes but also educated residents about the dangers of using electric poles for such purposes. A similar operation was carried out in the EWS Colonies and other surrounding areas. During the drive, cycles, rehri carts, and other personal items found chain-locked to street light poles were also cleared, as they created obstructions and safety hazards.

Municipal Commissioner Sh. Amit Kumar, IAS urged all citizens to cooperate with the Municipal Corporation and refrain from using public infrastructure for personal use. *Chandigarh, July 8:-* The Municipal Corporation Chandigarh has undertaken a comprehensive fogging drive across government and private schools in the city to ensure the safety and hygiene of students and staff. This proactive step is part of MCC’s ongoing efforts to prevent the spread of vector-borne diseases such as dengue, malaria, and chikungunya, especially during the monsoon season.

The fogging operations were carried out in school premises including classrooms, playgrounds, corridors, and other high-risk areas. Special attention was given to areas where stagnant water could become breeding grounds for mosquitoes. The drive was coordinated in close collaboration with school managements to minimize disruption to academic activities.

*MCC seized 520 Kgs of banned plastic items from a shop in Sector 20*

*Chandigarh, July 5:-* In a major enforcement action, the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh has seized a massive quantity of banned plastic material from Peekay Plastic, a shop located in Sector 20 and confiscated 520 kgs of non-compostable plastic and immediately transported to the dry waste processing plant for weighing and shredding.

This action was part of the MCC’s intensified drive to eliminate the supply and use of banned plastic across the city. The MCC team of Sanitary Inspectors has been conducting continuous raids to identify and dismantle the nexus between illegal plastic item suppliers and local retailers.

*Chandigarh, July 4:-* The Municipal Corporation Chandigarh has issued a challan to Punjab National Bank (PNB), Sector 17, for littering in a public area. The challan, issued under the Solid Waste Management Rules, was prompted after the MCC challaning team discovered a heap of garbage in an open space containing multiple bank slips clearly identifying PNB as the source.

Acting promptly, the MCC team thoroughly inspected the dumped waste and retrieved slips belonging to the concerned bank, thereby confirming the origin of the litter. In line with the city’s cleanliness norms and the guidelines of the Swachh Bharat Mission, the bank was penalized of Rs. 13,500 for improper disposal of waste.

MCC Commissioner Sh. Amit Kumar, IAS, has strongly warned all commercial and institutional establishments alongwith city residents to strictly adhere to solid waste management rules. He emphasized that any form of littering or violation of cleanliness norms in public spaces will invite strict action. The Municipal Corporation Chandigarh has issued a stern warning to all individuals, traders, and commercial establishments found violating the single-use plastic ban in the city. Chandigarh MC Commissioner Sh. Amit Kumar, IAS, while reviewing the enforcement of the ban, directed the concerned officers of MCC for formation of a special task force to trace and dismantle the supply chain of banned plastic carry bags entering Chandigarh.

The Commissioner emphasized that zero tolerance will be shown towards violators, particularly repeat offenders. He warned that strict legal action will be taken, which may include heavy penalties, seizure of goods, and in severe cases, temporary or permanent closure of the establishment.

As part of the Plastic Mukt Chandigarh campaign, rigorous enforcement drives have been conducted since the ban came into effect on June 18, 2025. So far 520 challans have been issued, 123 Kg banned plastic carry bags have been confiscated besides selling 423 kg compostable bags.

The Commissioner said that MCC enforcement teams are inspecting sensitive areas such as Apni Mandis, grocery shops, street vendors, and markets on a daily basis.

Commissioner Kumar reiterated that single-use plastic items, including bags, straws, and disposable cutlery, are strictly prohibited due to their harmful impact on the environment and public health. He urged citizens and businesses to adopt sustainable alternatives such as cloth and compostable bags.

The Commissioner appeals to the public to cooperate in making Chandigarh plastic-free. MCC will not hesitate to take stringent action against those undermining the city’s environmental efforts, he said.
