Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has extended the last date for online admission to all Masters, Bachelors, PG Diploma, Diploma (except certificate, semester based and merit based programmes) and online Re-registration (RR) of all Masters and Bachelors for the session January, 2024 session till 31st March, 2024. Dr. Bhanu Pratap Singh, Senior Regional Director of IGNOU Regional Center Chandigarh informed that interested applicants can apply through online link for admission to any Masters, Bachelors, PG Diploma, Diploma and Certificate programmes of their choice: https://ignouadmission.samarth.edu.in/ which is available on IGNOU website www.ignou.ac.in.

SC/ST students will be admitted without charging any fee in some of the Diploma/PG Diploma & Graduate Programmes and they will have to apply online and to upload all necessary documents for fee exemption. For further information regarding the courses on offer the applicants may see the IGNOU website (www.ignou.ac.in) or IGNOU Chandigarh’s website (www.rcchandigarh.ac.in and IGNOU Regional Center Chandigarh’s Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/RCCHD . 

Dr. Bhanu Pratap Singh further informed that the last date for online Re-registration (RR) of all Masters and Bachelors for the session January, 2024 session till 31st March, 2024 with late fee of Rs.500/-.  For Re-registration process the candidate has to register himself/herself (if not registered) on the official website i.e. https://onlinerr.ignou.ac.in/ . Whereas those who have already registered can simply login with the id- password and fill up the registration and submit the requisite fees online. In case a learner faces any difficulty he/she can approach the RC Chandigarh office for support.

Panjab University under the aegis of Department of Youth Welfare participated in All India National Inter-University Youth Festival 2023-24 organized by Association of Indian Universities, New Delhi at Punjab Agriculture University, Ludhiana from March 28 to April 01, 2024. In this event, students representing Panjab University bagged first positions in four items out of the six items in which PU participated. The contingent of Panjab University bagged first position in One Act Play, Mime, Clay Modeling & Cartooning along with third position in Instrumental Music     (Non-percussion).

Panjab University Alumni Association hosted an interactive session with Dr. Kiran Bedi IPS (Retd.) Former Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry and Distinguished PU Alumna at evening studies auditorium on April1, 2024. It was attended by more than two hundred fifty participants including distinguished alumni, eminent professors ,faculty members, senators, chairpersons students and research scholars from different department and walks of life. Students joined from public administration, UILS, Political science, English, zoology, sociology, Police administration, Defence studies, Hindi, history etc. to listen to the inspiring personality who gave excellent tips to lead a self-discipline student life to be successful in life.

Prof. Latika Sharma Dean Alumni Relations welcomed Dr. Kiran Bedi with Prof. Pam Rajput and DSW Prof. Simrat Kahlon. Dr Bedi’s love for sports and eagerness to learn and be on the move made her student days activity packed in which she secured two scholarships for academics and sports . She told students not to give in to distractions of social media , do those great  things which people would like to see for inspiration.She emphasised on optimum utilization of time in younger days to engage in sports and studies. She told the students  to build self-respect, learn to work with hands, lead ethical life, focus on goals to attain success which comes through good habits. Student can gain confidence by doing their own SWOT analysis to keep improving their self awareness for building good habits. She encouraged students to develop reading habits and engage in sports and physical activities. She asked the students their expectations and prompted them to articulate their goals for behavioral transformation. It was a highly interactive session which evoked a sense of commitment for self-development among the students. The replies of the students were recorded on the spot and many students responded. Dr. Bedi responded to all queries with high energy and enthusiasm making it a very enjoyable session for the students. This is beginning of a series of Alumni Connect interactive sessions to provide Alumni mentorship to students of PU.

Department of Indian Theatre celebrated World Theatre Day

The Department of Indian Theatre, Panjab University Chandigarh celebrated the World Theatre Day on 27th March 2024. The celebrations were started on 17th March 2024 with a National Seminar on “Theatre: Indispensable in the Digital age”. After that the Department has organised a Study Tour to Gaiety Theatre and Indian Institute of advanced Study, Shimla. Students have also showcased their in-house productions. Today the celebrations were culminated with the Research Paper presentations by the students of MA-I & II, on the topics related to their upcoming Annual Production.

Sh. Abhishek Sharma, Director of The Tagore Theatre, Chandigarh, Dr. Chander Shekhar Prasad and Mr. Emmanuel (all Alumni of the Department) and Mr Aman Kumar were present.

While delivering the welcome address, Dr. Navdeep Kaur said that we should celebrate Theatre every moment. She paid her gratitude to each and every Theatre person associated with the department so far. She also shared her views on the importance of Theatre. All the dignitaries appreciated this effort of the Department. On this occasion Three students Ms. Sanya, Mr. Gurpreet Singh Garcha and Sh. Parvinder Singh were given S. Charanjit Singh Memorial Scholarship by Natya Griham.

चंडीगढ़, 21 मार्च (   )- दुनिया भर के भक्तों की सेवा के लिए करुणा और समर्पण की भावना से निहंग बाबा हरजीत सिंह रसूलपुर और वरिष्ठ भाजपा नेता विनीत जोशी ने अयोध्या राममंदिर में बीते दो माह से निरंतर जारी लंगर सेवा के लिए चंडीगढ़ से एक बार फिर लाखों की कीमत से अधिक किराने का सामान (लंगर के लिए भोजन और अन्य सामान)  के ट्रक रवाना किए । यह उल्लेखनीय है कि बाबा हरजीत सिंह रसूलपुर अगुवाई 1885 में बाबरी ढांचे पर कब्जा कर हवन करने वाले निहंग बाबा फ़क़ीर सिंह के आठवें वंशज हैं। निहंग बाबा फकीर सिंह खालसा की भगवान राम के प्रति भक्ति और दुनिया भर से आने वाले भक्तों की सेवा के लिए निहंग बाबा हरजीत सिंह रसूलपुर ने बीती 14 जनवरी से अयोध्या के प्रमोदवन क्षेत्र में श्री चार धाम मंदिर में दुनिया भर से आने वाले भक्तों के लिए लंगर की व्यवस्था शुरू की थी।

सेक्टर 26 में चंडीगढ़ के अनाज मंडी से बीती रात किराना ट्रकों को अयोध्या भेजते समय निहंग बाबा हरजीत सिंह रसूलपुर ने कहा कि देश विदेश से अयोध्या राममंदिर दर्शन हेतु पहुंच रहे श्रद्धालुओं के लिए 24 घंटे निरंतर लंगर सेवा जारी रखने के लिए ही चंडीगढ़ से एक बार फिर किराने का सामान अयोध्या भेजा गया है। मानवता के सेवक के रूप में, यह सुनिश्चित करना मेरा कर्तव्य है कि कोई भी भूखा न रहे, खासकर भक्ति और उत्सव के समय में। हमारे सिख गुरुओं द्वारा शुरू किया गया लंगर समानता और भाईचारे का प्रतीक है और यह जरूरी है कि हम इसके मूल्यों को कायम रखें।

इस अवसर पर बोलते हुए वरिष्ठ भाजपा नेता विनीत जोशी ने कहा कि 14 जनवरी को शुरू की गई लंगर सेवा अभी भी उन भक्तों की सेवा कर रही है जो भगवान राम के दर्शन करने के लिए अयोध्या पहुंच रहे हैं। रसूलपुर न केवल उनके पूर्वजों का प्रतिनिधित्व कर रहे हैं, बल्कि पूरे पंजाब और पंजाबियत का प्रतिनिधित्व कर रहे हैं।

Panjab University to host ‘Environmental Film Festival & Forum on LiFE’

Panjab University is set to host the ‘Environmental Film Festival & Forum on LiFE’ from March 20-22, 2024, at the Law Auditorium, Panjab University, shining a spotlight on the pressing issues of biodiversity conservation, climate change, and the pivotal role of environmental education.This captivating three-day event, organized by the Punjab State Council for Science & Technology under its Environmental Education Program, in collaboration with the Centre for Media Studies (CMS) VATAVARAN and Panjab University, aims to enrich the community’s understanding and appreciation of our ecosystems. The attendees will experience a diverse selection of feature films and numerous enlightening documentaries, each chosen to provoke thought and inspire action towards a sustainable future.The festival kicks off with the National Award-winning film “Turtle,” offering an engaging narrative on rural India’s environmental challenges. The closing day will feature National Award-winning film by veteran director Nila Madhab Panda “Kadvi Hawa,” a stark portrayal of climate change’s realities. Additionally, attendees can look forward to “Kalira Atita: Yesterday’s Past” and “Kalichaat,” both critically acclaimed films exploring human resilience and agricultural distress, respectively.

Beyond film screenings, the festival boasts a free MOJO workshop by acclaimed filmmaker Mr. Gautam Pandey, and a painting competition to celebrate artistic expressions of environmental awareness.

An Interactive Session on “ODL Regulations 2020 and Issues concerning NEP 2020 Implementation in Distance Education Institutions” at CDOE, Panjab University.

The Centre for Distance and Online Education (CDOE) at Panjab University, Chandigarh, hosted an interactive session titled “ODL Regulations 2020” today in its auditorium. The session focused on discussing the Open and Distance Learning (ODL) Regulations 2020 and the challenges in implementing the New Education Policy 2020 in distance education institutions. Mr. Vinod Singh Yadav, Deputy Secretary of UGC-DEB, served as the resource person for the event, delivering a detailed presentation on both topics. Following the presentation, there was an hour-long interaction where over a dozen faculty members from CDOE raised queries, concerns, and challenges related to ODL, aiming to enhance online education accessibility, inclusivity, and learner-friendliness. Several questions were also posed regarding the implementation challenges of the National Education Policy 2020 and it’s implementation at CDOE, PU in the forthcoming session. University officials including the Registrar, Finance Development Officer, Dean of Alumni Relations, Controller of  Examinations, ex-Dean of Student Welfare and Fellow PU, and Director of the Computer Centre were present at the event and engaged in discussions with the UGC official. Prof. Harsh Gandhar, Director of CDOE, welcomed the resource person and university officials at the beginning of the session. She provided an overview of the  milestones achieved by its HEI Panjab University and CDOE ( formerly USOL). It was under ODL Regulations 2020 that the department nomenclature had to be changed to CDOE. The session was facilitated by Prof. Supreet Kaur, and                  

 Dr. Ravinder Kaur delivered the vote of thanks. The non teaching staff also participated in the session.

*MC Chandigarh opens seventh ‘Rupee Store’ at sector 56*

*Chandigarh, March 15:-* Aiming to provide affordable items to those in need while promoting the concept of reducing, reusing and recycling, the Municipal Corporation has started its seventh ‘One Rupee Store’ at the Community Centre, Sector-56 , here today for two days.

City Mayor, Sh. Kuldeep Kumar inaugurated the store in the presence of area councillor Sh. Manaur, other senior officials of MCC, and prominent members of the ward.

While speaking on the occasion, the Mayor said that the MCC’s permanent RRR center in Sector 17 has received an overwhelming response from citizens, enabling the establishment of this store. The aim of this initiative is to provide affordable items to those in need while promoting the concept of reducing, reusing, and recycling. The store offers a variety of items such as books, electronics, clothing, crockery, kitchenware, toys, and bed sheets, all priced at just Rs. 1 per item.

He said that the Municipal Corporation has set up its permanent RRR center at New Bridge Market, near Jagat Cinema in Sector 17, where citizens are encouraged to donate items that are no longer in use to help those in need. He added that after cleaning, repairing, and refurbishing the donated items collected at the RRR center in Sector 17, the MCC is committed to organizing more such one-rupee stores in different areas/wards of the city.

Municipal Commissioner, Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS, expressed her gratitude towards the citizens of tricity for their overwhelming response and support. She noted that this is the seventh successful one-rupee store, and the MCC is committed to serving the community by establishing more such stores throughout the city. The launch of this store is a testament to the MCC’s efforts towards creating sustainable and inclusive practices that benefit citizens from all walks of life. She said that the MCC is showing its commitment towards promoting sustainability and inclusivity with opening of these kind of stores in the colony areas of the city.

She said that since 2023, the Municipal Corporation has embarked on a journey to promote sustainable behavior and practices among its citizens. As part of this initiative,  have successfully organized six one-rupee stores in Dhanas, Manimajra, Maloya, Sunder Nagar, Ramdarbar, and a special store for Safaimitras. These stores have collectively sold approximately 15,000 items, she added.

*Chandigarh civic body seals four properties over unpaid property tax*

*Chandigarh, March 15:-* Acting tough on the defaulters of Property Tax, the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation on Friday sealed four commercial properties in Sector 17, Sector 26, Industrial area and Hallomajra for non-payment of property tax.

Following the directions of Municipal Commissioner Ms. Anindita Mitra, a team of property tax wing of the civic body authority took action against property owners, who had not cleared Rs 15,52,221/- in taxes.

Shop number 107-108, Sector 17-B owed Rs 2,29,634/- in property tax, SCO No. 45 in sector 26 owed Rs 3,07,051/-, Plot No. 28/5 in Industrial area Phase II owed Rs. 7,74,306/- and Plot No. 1842 in Hallomajra had pending dues of Rs 2,41,230/-. These properties had not paid the tax since a long time.

The property tax branch of the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation had given multiple chances to these defaulters to pay the tax.

The MC Chandigarh further warned all the defaulters to pay their pending property tax within stipulated time frame to avoid any kind of legal action in future.

*Chandigarh, March 15:-* With a focus on improving capacity and enhancing awareness among Safaimitras, the Municipal Corporation has successfully completed a one-month-long comprehensive training program in collaboration with the sanitation department.

With Swachh Survekshan 2024 on the horizon, the training and capacity experts at MC Chandigarh delivered informative sessions covering six major subject areas: Solid Waste Management, Domestic Hazardous Waste Management, Prevention of Sexual Harassment Act, Disaster Management & Epidemic Response, Government Scheme Linkages, and Mental Health and Well-being.

Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS, Municipal Commissioner said that MC Chandigarh remains dedicated to the professional growth and development of its employees. The organization has dedicated an entire month to the sanitation department for conducting the Capacity Building and Training Workshop, ensuring comprehensive coverage of essential topics.

She further added that by organizing this capacity building and training workshop, the organization strives to equip its workforce with the necessary skills and knowledge to deliver high-quality services to the citizens of Chandigarh.

The workshop witnessed enthusiastic participation from approximately 5600 attendees over the course of one month. Attendees had the opportunity to interact with experts and clarify their doubts on each segment. Furthermore, the attendees received guidance on recognizing and avoiding fraudulent phone calls and messages related to banking.

The capacity building and training for other wings have also been scheduled and will be covered in the coming months.
