Chandigarh, September 4:- Following the directions of Sh. K.K. Yadav, IAS, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh, a surprise joint drive was carried out on meat sellers selling chicken and pork by the meat hygiene wing, MOH and enforcement wing of MCC at Janta & Kumhar colony, sector 25, here today.
During the drive about 60 Kg pork unfit for human consumption was seized and destroyed. The meat cutting equipments and three poultry cages were also removed by the team. Total 8 challans were issued to the offenders/violators under Solid Waste Management Rules and enforcement regulations.
The Commissioner directed the team of meat hygiene and enforcement, MCC to conduct similar drives throughout Chandigarh and take strict action against the violators. He directed that legal action will also be initiated against the regular offenders and illegal meat & poultry shops be removed from the colonies and road sides on regular basis.

Department of Evening Studies – MDRC (Hindi Dept.), Panjab University,Chandigarh in collaboration with Publication Bureau of Panjab University, Chandigarh organized a discussion programme to commemorate the memories of Kumar Veekal. The programme started with poetical recitation of Kumar Veekal’s Poems by the students of the Department.
The introductory remarks addressed the nature and poems of Kumar Veekal by Dr. Deepak Manmohan Singh and highlighted the importance of hindi as a national language.
Prof. Jatinder Mohan viewed how Kumar Veekal was one of the most influential poet in modern hindi and Prof. Bhupinder Brar discussed his friendship and his national poems that are popular among Indians.
Nirupama Dutt discussed his famous works and provided a gateway to new perspectives of his works for future generation.
Dewan Mana, a famous photographer rendered his self-composed poetry filled with full splendour and variety.
Mrs. Sudarshan, wife of Kumar Veekal highlighted the importance of family in his poems.
Professor Neeraj Jain, Coordinator, Hindi Dept. touched a deep emotional chord of his poetry.
Professor Gurpal Singh thanked the guests and students for their presence.

Chandigarh, September 03:- The Weekly Ward Level meeting of Municipal Corporation Chandigarh was held under the chairmanship of Sh. Rajesh Kumar, Mayor of Chandigarh which was attended by councilors namely Sh. Mahesh Inder Singh, Smt. Raj Bala Malik, Sh. Ravi Kant Sharma and Smt. Suntia Dhawan Ward no. 1, 2, 3 and 4 respectively.
Sh. Shailender Singh, SE, Public Health, Sr. Sanjay Arora, SE (B&R), Executive Engineers and other concerned officers were present during the meeting. In the meeting following issues of ward wise discussed in details:
Ward-01
· Remove the garbage from the Road berms.
· Recarpeting of Roads in the ward.
· Patch work at the road of Sector 8.
· Provision of paver block in V-6 road side at Sector 8-C.
Ward – 02
· Recarpeting of Roads.
· Road berms be cleaned on regular basis.
· Pruning of trees along road side.
· Dustbins in parks be cleaned regularly.
· Illegal encroachments be removed from Market area.
Ward – 03
· Garbage point be redesignated at Sector 22.
· Underground dustbin in sector 22 be repaired and maintained properly.
· Cutting the Grass on V-5 Road berms.
· Repair the paver block on V-5 road.
· Renovation the community centre sector 22.
· Check the status of Community Centre sector 16 & 22 in regard to major/minor repairs required.
· The area of old SSK be leveled near Nehru park.
· Light points in roads at sector 22 B&C be checked and repaired immediately.
· Repair the Street light at the Moonlight Park, sector 22.
· Maintenance/Repair of Public Toilets in Sector 16 & 22 Market.
Ward – 04
· Check the leakage of the roof in Janj Ghar and repair immediately.
· Additional toilet blocks be provided in Fragrance garden, sector 36.
· Fountain in Bamboo garden, sector 23 be maintained properly.
· Toilet block in Bamboo garden, sector 23 be dismantled immediately.
· Leveling of tiles of booth market, sector 23.
· Strengthening of water supply line in sector 23-C.
· Proper cleaning of the toilet block in market sector 23 –C.
· Repair the lights on V-6 road, Sector 36-A.

Chandigarh, September-2:- Sh. Manoj Kumar Parida, IAS, Adviser to the Administrator, UT, Chandigarh today dedicated the Cremation Ground to public at Indl. Area, Ph-I, Chandigarh in presence of Sh. Rajesh Kumar, Mayor, Sh. K.K. Yadav, IAS, Commissioner, Sh. S.K. Jain, Additional Commissioner, Sh. Shakti Parkash Devshali, area councillor and other senior officers of Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh.
All the unclaimed dead bodies of Chandigarh will be cremated in this cremation ground. The MCC has started death certificate registration facility in this ground and the material i.e. wood and ‘Samagri’ etc. required in the cremation will be made available at the ground.
This cremation ground is spread over 2.25 acres area covered with boundary wall all around the cremation ground campus. There are 36 Pyre Platforms with 05 of them provided with G.I. Sheet shed and to accommodate near about 500 persons, there is 32’x183’ RCC roof shed with seating facility. The MCC has provided drinking water facility besides separate ladies and gents toilet/bathroom block and residence accommodation for attendant.
The Municipal Corporation Chandigarh has awarded work to run & operate this cremation ground to M/s Trikaldarshi Sewa Dal, #803-A, Pandit Deendayal Upadhaya Complex, Industrial Area, phase-1, Chandigarh, Contact No. 9041784130, 9464395716.
According to the MoU the period of operation is initially for ten years and the same will be extended to another five years after assessing its performance. The procurement of fuel wood/other material will be arranged by the NGO and will be issued own no profit no loss basis and rates duly approved by the MC, Chandigarh. To maintain Cleanliness, Sanitary Condition, Greenery, drinking Water facility, Urinals & Toilets etc. is the duty of NGO. To maintain records and accounts including donation to to be funds and other monetary gain at Cremation Ground from General Public is the duty of the Cremation Ground. The organization shall clear Electricity & Water bill of their own level and to submit bi-monthly report of the same to MCC. The organization will disposed off unclaimed dead bodies as per MCC Policy. The organization will maintain Complaints book in the Cremation Ground.
Chandigarh, September-2:- Centre for Research in Rural and Industrial Development organised a Skill Development workshop at Sec. 19, Chandigarh today. Smt. Asha Jaswal, Chairperson, Women Empowerment Committee, MCC distributed hand made bags during the workshop in the presence of Smt. Sunita Dhawan and other members of the committee. She said that cloth bags will be arranged through sponsorship as CSR activity and distributed to the public free of cost.
Chandigarh, September 2:- A meeting of Fire & Emergency Services, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh was held here today in the conference hall under the Chairmanship of Sh. Ravi Kant Sharma and attended by the other members of the committee namely Sh. Mahesh Inder Singh, Smt. Raj Bala Malik, Smt. Farmila, Maj. Gen M S Kandal, Haji Mohd Khurshid Ali, Sh. Anil Kumar Garg, Additional Commissioner and concerned officers of Municipal Corporation.
During the meeting various issues were discussed and passed the following agenda items:-
1. The committee members approved an agenda regarding online payment gateway for issuance of Fire Safety Certificate.
2. The committee approved an agenda regarding purchase of 30 nos Fire Fighting helmet with centrally torch for Fire and Emergency Services, MC, Chandigarh at an estimated cost of Rs. 13.50 lacs.
