Dr. Jaspal Kaur Kaang, Professor & Academic Incharge, Dept of Guru Nanak Sikh Studies, Panjab University Chandigarh today presented a paper as a scholar of Gurbani in the Webinar organized by Shri Guru Granth Sahib World University, Fatehgarh Sahib on the topic “Concept of Sikh Martyrdom: It’s Development and Universal Relevance”.
Prof. Kaang focused on the point that there was no concept of ‘Shahadat’ in the Indian Culture and Tradition prior to Sikh religion. The word ‘Shahadat’ comes from Islam as in which their was a great tradition of giving one’s life to save the honor and glory his own religion. But Sikh Religion has its own concept of ‘Shahadat’ in which there is a rich tradition of giving ‘Shahadat’ to save other’s Religion. Guru Arjan Dev ji sacrificed his life to save people of India from the oppression of Mughals . Similarly Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji gave his ‘Shahadat’ to protect Kashmiri Hindus and Pandits.
She added that the Sikhs are motivated by the teachings of their Gurus through Gurbani which makes them internally strong. So the Bani of Guru Granth Sahib works as a foundation to make it’s followers fearless from where the feeling and motivation for ‘Shahadat’ develops. She explained that Sikh history is based on the concept two major concepts which are ‘Shabad’ and ‘Shahadat’. At the end of Webinar, Prof. Pritpal Singh, Vice-Chancellor of Shri Guru Granth Sahib World University, appreciated the efforts of Speakers who spoke on the different aspects of Guru Arjun Dev Ji’s personality and martyrdom. Almost 200 participants attended the webinar and paid homage to Guru Arjun Dev Ji.

चण्डीगढ़, 25 मई – हरियाणा के जिला गुरुग्राम रेलवे स्टेशन से आज 1400 प्रवासी नागरिकों को लेकर श्रमिक स्पेशल ट्रेन मणिपुर के जरिबम नामक स्थान के लिये रवाना हुई।
यूँ तो लॉक डाउन में फंसे यात्रियों को लेकर जाने वाली श्रमिक स्पेशल ट्रेन के जाने के समय रेलवे स्टेशन पर मानवता से जुड़े एक से बढक़र एक उदाहरण हम रोजाना देख रहे हैं। आज एक ऐसा ही उदाहरण गुरुग्राम के रेलवे स्टेशन पर देखने को मिला। रेलवे स्टेशन पर श्रीराम स्कूल गुरुग्राम में पढऩे वाले छठी कक्षा के आरव जेफ तथा 10वीं की छात्रा माही जेफ दोनों भाई- बहन आज ट्रेन में सफर करने वाले नागरिकों के साथ जा रहे बच्चों को खिलौने व चॉकलेट बांटते नजर आए। इन दोनों बच्चों ने जिस अपने पन से खिलौने बांटे वह नजारा देखने लायक था। दोनों में इतना चाव था कि वे करीब 4.30 बजे गुरुग्राम रेलवे स्टेशन पर अपने गुल्लक के पैसों से खरीदे गए ढेर सारे खिलौने व चॉकलेट लेकर पहुंच गए थे, जबकि ट्रेन छूटने का समय शाम 6.00 बजे का था।
जब इनसे इस बारे में पूछा गया तो माही ने बताया कि वह अपने भाई आरव के साथ आई है और उन्होंने अपना गुल्लक तोडक़र सफर करने वाले बच्चों के लिए खिलौने व चॉकलेट खरीदे हैं। उसने कहा कि लॉक डाउन की वजह से अपने घरों को जा रहे बच्चों को वे भी अपनी तरफ से तोहफा देना चाहते थे, इसीलिए आज स्टेशन पर आए हैं। खिलौने और चॉकलेट बांटने में सिविल डिफेंस कर्मियों ने उनकी मदद की। प्रवासी बच्चे भी उपहार पाकर खुश थे और कुछ बच्चों ने माही और आरव को थैंक्यू भी बोला।
ट्रेन ठीक शाम 6.00 बजे रवाना हुई। सभी यात्रियों ने उन्हें घर जाने के लिए मुफ्त टिकट तथा भोजन आदि की व्यवस्था करने के लिए हरियाणा सरकार के पक्ष में जयकारे लगाए। जाने से पहले रेलवे स्टेशन पर इन सब के स्वास्थ्य की जांच की गई व हाथों को सैनेटाइज करवाकर भोजन व पानी दिया गया। प्रत्येक यात्री की थर्मल स्कैनिंग करके उन्हें मास्क उपलब्ध करवाए गए। इसके उपरांत उन्हें टिकट निशुल्क टिकट देकर ट्रेन में बिठाया गया।
प्रवासी नागरिकों को जिला प्रशासन की ओर से भोजन व पानी उपलब्ध करवाया गया। सिविल डिफेंस के उप-नियंत्रक एवं वजीराबाद के तहसीलदार मनीष यादव ने स्वयं अपने हाथों से प्रवासी नागरिकों को खाने के पैकेट बांटे। सफर के दौरान प्रवासी नागरिकों को किसी प्रकार की परेशानी ना हो, इसलिये उन्हें नमकीन, बिस्किट, फेस मास्क, साबुन सहित अन्य जरूरत के सामान की किट बनाकर दी गई है।
रेलवे स्टेशन पर उपस्थित बादशाहपुर के एसडीएम हितेंद्र शर्मा ने बताया कि सरकार के आदेशानुसार पंजीकृत प्रवासी नागरिकों को ट्रेन व बसों के माध्यम से उनके गृह राज्यों तक भिजवाया जा रहा है। प्रत्येक प्रवासी नागरिक को स्वास्थ्य जांच के बाद मेडिकल फिटनेस प्रमाणपत्र दिया गया है । इस दौरान सोशल डिस्टेंसिंग का विशेष तौर पर ध्यान रखा गया।

उन्होंने आज यहां कहा कि कोविड-19 के प्रसार को रोकने के लिए पूरे देश में लॉकडाऊन शुरू किया गया जिसके कारण राज्य के सभी स्कूलों को भी बंद करना पड़ा। विद्यार्थियों की शिक्षा को जारी रखने के लिए हरियाणा सरकार ने ऑनलाइन पढ़ाई शुरू की है। कोविड-19 के कारण बदली आर्थिक परिस्थितियों को देखते सरकार ने निजी स्कूलों को फीस में बढ़ोतरी न करने, पाठ्यपुस्तकें तथा वर्दी में बदलाव न करने के निर्देश दिए। यही नहीं अभिभावकों की फीस को लेकर चिंता जताए जाने पर राज्य सरकार ने निजी स्कूलों को बिल्डिंग फण्ड, रखरखाव फण्ड, प्रवेश शुल्क, कम्यूटर, ट्रांसपोर्ट आदि न लेकर मासिक आधार पर मात्र ट्यूशन फीस लेने के निर्देश दिए हैं। उन्होंने आगे कहा कि अगर कोई अभिभावक वर्तमान में फीस देने में असमर्थ है तो वह स्कूल प्रशासन को लिखित रूप में बाद में किश्तों में देने का अनुरोध कर सकता है।
शिक्षा मंत्री ने बताया कि राज्य के सरकारी व निजी स्कूलों को अपने कार्यालय खोलने की अनुमति दे दी गई है ताकि एडमिशन, पाठ्यपुस्तकों आदि का आवश्यक कार्य निपटा लें।

हॉकी के जादूगर बलबीर सिंह सीनियर का आज यहां सोमवार शाम पूरे राजकीय सम्मान के साथ अंतिम संस्कार किया गया। 96 वर्षीय बलबीर सिंह बीमार थे। इस मौके पर पंजाब के खेल मंत्री राणा गुरमीत सिंह सोढ़ी ने घोषणा की कि मोहाली स्टेडियम का नाम दिग्गज खिलाड़ी के नाम पर रखा जाएगा।
तीन बार के ओलंपिक स्वर्ण पदक विजेता का यहां एक इलेक्ट्रिक श्मशान में अंतिम संस्कार किया गया। उनके नाती कबीर ने उनके अंतिम संस्कार की विधियों को पूरा किया। बलबीर सिंह की एक बेटी सुशबीर और तीन बेटे – कंवलबीर, करनबीर और गुरबीर हैं। उनके बेटे कनाडा में बसे हुए हैं और वह अपनी बेटी सुशबीर और नाती कबीर के साथ यहां रहते थे।
अंतिम संस्कार में मौजूद सोढ़ी ने कहा कि सिंह का निधन न केवल खेल जगत के लिए, बल्कि पूरे देश के लिए भी एक बड़ा झटका है। उन्होंने कहा कि मोहाली हॉकी स्टेडियम का नाम सिंह के नाम पर रखा जाएगा।इस मौके पर भारतीय हॉकी टीम के पूर्व कप्तान परगट सिंह भी मौजूद थे।
पंजाब सरकार और चंडीगढ़ प्रशासन के वरिष्ठ अधिकारियों ने सिंह के की पार्थिव देह को श्रद्धासुमन भेंट किए। पुलिस कंटिनजेंट ने दिवांगत आत्मा के सम्मान में तीन वॉली शॉट लगाए। सिंह का पार्थिव शरीर पहले फोर्टिस अस्पताल से सेक्टर 36 स्थित उनके आवास पर लाया गया था, जहां से शव वाहन में सेक्टर-25 के शमशान ले जाया गया था।

चंडीगढ़: चंडीगढ़ शहर में कोरोना संक्रमण मरीजों की संख्या बढ़ते हुए 273 हो गई है। आज सुबह बापूधाम कॉलोनी से 9 कोरोना पॉजिटिव मामले सामने आए है। इसके अलावा बद्दी से आई एक लड़की भी कोरोना पॉजिटिव आई है। अब तक बापूधाम कॉलोनी से आ रहे पॉजिटिव मामलों पर प्रशासन की ओर से रोक नहीं लगाई जा सकी है। इस क्षेत्र को रेड जोन घोषित किया गया है और आने जाने वाले लोगों पर पुलिस और सीआरपीएफ के जवानों की नजर है। इसके बावजूद लगातार इस कॉलोनी से पॉजिटिव मामले सामने आ रहे है। अब तक कॉलोनी से 159 पॉजिटिव केस आ चुके है।
उधर बुड़ैल जेल कोरोना ग्रस्त होने से बाल-बाल बच गई है।जिस संजय मिश्रा को पुलिस ने गिरफ्तार किया था,वह कोरोना पॉजिटिव निकला है। उसे जेल ने लेने से मना कर दिया था। कहा पहले टेस्ट करवाकर लाओ। मिश्रा चार महीने से दड़वा में रह रहा था।दो दिन पहले नाका तोड़ बापूधाम में हो रहा था दाखिल। पुलिस के अरेस्ट करने के बाद वह रातभर थाने में ही रहा था।
मोहाली में आज फिर कोरोना ने दोबारा से दस्तक दे दी है। अब मोहाली कोरोना फ्री जोन नहीं रहा। नयागांव की जनता कॉलोनी में नयागांव की एक महिला की रिपोर्ट पॉजिटिव आई है।नया केस आने से हेल्थ डिपार्टमेंट की मुश्किलें बढ़ गई हैं। बता दें कि इससे पहले मोहाली में 105 केस आए थे। इनमें से तीन की मौत हो गई थी और बाकी के स्वस्थ होकर घर लौट गए थे। अब फिर से इस बीमारी ने जिले में दस्तक दी है।
प्रोग्रेसिव ट्रेडर्स वेलफेयर एसोसिएशन ने चंडीगढ़ के प्रशासक को पत्र लिखकर कहा है कि महामारी के चलते दो महीने उनका कारोबार बंद रहा। अब अब मार्केट में कारोबार नहीं है। इसके अलावा दिन में भारी गर्मी होती है उस दौरान कस्टमर नहीं आता। प्रेसिडेंट संजीव चड्ढा ने लिखा है कि शॉप्स क्लोज करने का समय बढ़ाया जा ना चाहिए । शाम के समय मौसम थोड़ा ठीक होता है ऐसे में कस्टमर मार्केट में शॉपिंग के लिए निकलता है। उन्होंने पत्र में लिखा है कि पिछले 55 दिन से कारोबार बंद होने से सभी दुकानदारों काे लाखों रुपए का नुकसान हुआ है।उन्होंने प्रशासन को एक मांग पत्र भी भेजा है। उसमें कहा है कि दुकानों को बंद करने का टाइम 6 बजे से बढ़ाकर रात 8.30 बजे का होना चाहिए।
सूद धर्मशाला सेक्टर 22 डी में कोरोना के पेशेंट को रखने पर वहां के मोहल्ला निवासियों की परेशानी को देखते हुए ऑल इंडिया राहुल गांधी ब्रिगेड के नेशनल प्रेसिडेंट व चंडीगढ़ कांग्रेस ट्रेडर सेल के चेयरमैन राकेश गर्ग ने आवाज उठाई है। उन्होंने कहा अभी तक चंडीगढ़ प्रशासन ने करोना जैसी प्राकृतिक आपदा को लेकर बहुत सराहनीय कदम उठाए हैं जिससे आज हमारा शहर करोना से काफी हद तक सुरक्षित है, लेकिन इतना अच्छा काम करते हुए रेजिडेंशियल एरिया के अंदर कोरोना के पेशेंट रखने के लिए जो जगह बनाई गई है वह सही नहीं है। चंडीगढ़ में अभी कोरोना के इतने भी केस नहीं हैं कि कोरोना पेशेंट्स को रेजिडेंशियल एरिया में रखा जाए। इससे वहां पर रहने वालों लोगों के दिमाग में खौफ पैदा होता है।

The University conferred him with the 1st Khel Ratna Award during its 65th Convocation in 2016.One of the greatest Indian hockey players, Balbir Singh Senior’s journey from an obscure village to fame is nothing but a saga of passion, determination and hard work
As a hockey player he raised the bar of excellence in the game . He was part of Indian Hockey Team in three Olympic Games of 1948 London , 1952 Helsinki and 1956 Melbourne , and won Gold Medals for India . He has inspired generations for taking up Hockey as sports.

The Department of Library and Information Science, Panjab University, Chandigarh, successfully organised 11th webinar today in the series on the theme ‘Information generation, dissemination and use during covid-19 lockdown’ through cisco webex app.
Prof.Preeti Mahajan, chairperson of the department started the webinar with a welcome speech and introduced the theme of the webinar series. Prof. V R Sinha ,Dean Reasearch in his address highlighted the importance of the Open Education Resources(OER) in education and congratulated the department for successfully hosting a series of webinars.
Prof.Uma Kanjilal, Professor and Head, Faculty of Library and Information Science, IGNOUdelivered the talk on “OER and Online Education: RedefiningRole of Libraries during COVID19 lockdown”. She clarified the concept of OER, discussed major initiatives of OERs worldwide and highlighted their role in Open Education with special reference to SWAYAM courses.She also stressed on the role of librarians in providing OER content customized to the requirements of their users.
Today’s webinar was attended by 111 participants including many academicians from all over the country. Prof. Jagtar Singh from DLIS, Punjabi University, Patiala and Prof. Dinesh K. Gupta from DLIS, Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra were also present in the webinar.

The Department of History, Panjab University, Chandigarh organized an International Web Lecture as a part of Series initiated by the Department during lockdown period, ‘Pandemics Across Ages’ .About 80 participants participated in the Web Lecture .
Dr. Sunjay Suri, Professor and Director of Graduate Orthodontics, Faculty of Dentistry, University of Toronto, Canada, the distinguished speaker delivered his lecture on, “Oral Health: Its Social Implications and Remedies in Light of Covid-19”. The quality of information, pertinence of the talk, its comprehensive nature, cross disciplinary and international bearings and extremely informative deliverables enthralled the audience of 80 and it is notable that not one participant left the talk midway which has become the norm in webinars nowadays. He delved at length in an extremely engaging manner on ramifications of COVID-19 as they are related to the field of Orthodontics.
PU Vice-Chancellor, Professor Raj Kumar, while appreciating the efforts,emphasized that intake is very important for the human body and since all intake is through the mouth and orally, it is vital that oral health and care be maintained at optimal levels, especially during the present pandemic, when access to the Orthodontists and Dentists is very limited. There is a widespread belief, backed by medical opinion, that the primary access of the COVID-19 virus into the human body is through the mouth, and as such, the topic of the web lecture was extremely timely and pertinent. He asked everyone to take care of one’s health through personal hygiene and recitation of mantras, which additionally contributes towards the keeping of mental peace. He remarked that the historical evaluation of the facts of Pandemics in the past shall help us understand the challenges connected with the present crisis and equip us better to deal with them.
The distinguished speaker, Dr. Sunjay Suri in his illustrative and illuminating presentation traced the historical record of the spread of virus first in Athens. Various pandemics, influenza, Spanish flu etc., from time to time in historical memory, had been claiming precious human lives in shockingly large numbers.
In context of the Covid-19, informed Dr. Sunjay Suri, that human to human transmission of SARS Covid-2 has chiefly occurred through respiratory tract via droplets, secretions through cough, sneeze and or direct contact. This leads virus to enter the mucous membrane of mouth, nose and eyes. Due to this, severe respiratory and multi-organ complication may be found among persons of advanced age, sixty-five or above. According to the speaker, the elective orthodontic treatment during Covid-19 must necessarily be suspended.
Emergency orthodontic treatment, however, may be followed by a contingency plan founded on effective communication and triage. Treatment advice be given first and if necessary, in-person treatment may be performed in a well- prepared operatory following infection prevention and control protocol. He drew the attention of the audience to the fact that during the current Covid-19 pandemic, it is imperative that orthodontists and dental professionals think globally and act locally to minimize the risks of transmitting SARS-Co-2 in their clinical settings.
He congratulated the Department of History for initiating academic endeavours linking two diverse subjects and expressed his delight in the subject matter as a Pharmacy scholar. The engagement in research projects may lead to a strong defense mechanism in our fight against Covid-19.
Dean Research, Professor V. R. Sinha, the Guest of Honour, remarked that the present critical time should best be utilized in enhancing research potentialities and pursuing research.
Dr. Anju Suri, Professor and Chairperson of the Department in her introductory address expounded the relevance of the Series, ‘Pandemics Across Ages’ by delving on the point that it provides opportunity to deliberate on social dimensions attached with Covid-19 and develop strategies with an integrated approach of knowledge of sciences and social sciences committed towards intellectual prudence to combat the present crisis.
Several doctors and medical experts from PGIMER, Chandigarh also joined the interaction. The highly incisive and comprehensive lecture was followed by Question-Answer Session conducted by Dr. Priyatosh Sharma, the Associate Professor of the Department of History who partnered Professor Anju Suri, in the team of organisers of the lecture. The lecture was joined by experts from academic, scientists, medical and dental practitioners, researchers, students and faculty members from many departments and Universities across India. The lecture ended with the formal vote of thanks to the participants by the organizers.

He is presently an Assistant Professor at MD University Rohtak and perusing his phd research under the supervision of Dr. Tirthankar Bhattacharya,Chairperson.
The 9 episodes have been designed to understand the basic concept of sketching , drawing techniques, anatomy rendering, study of perspectives and the various concepts of color theory.

Prof.Jagtar Singh, an alumnus of the department and former Professor and Head, Department of Library and Information Science, Punjabi university, Patiala delivered the talk on “Media Information Literacy and reinforcing human rights and countering fake news”. He highlighted that evaluation of information in terms of its authenticity, validity and objectivity is very important and also provided tips to fight misinformation during COVID 19 lockdown.
Today’s webinar was attended by 120 participants including many academicians from all over the country. Prof. Manoj K. Joshi and Prof. Dinesh K. Gupta from DLIS, Kurukshetra university, Kurukshetra were also present in the webinar.
