For Detailed News-

Professor  Dr. Tirthankar Bhattacharya ,Art Historian and Indologist ,Chairperson department of Art History and Visual Arts  and Director Museum of Fine Arts, Panjab University Chandigarh commenced on 10th July,2020.

Roshan Ansal  has an immense amount of creative energy to transform anything tangible into pieces of art . Selection of medium has never been an issue with Roshan . He has an immense sense of visualization which he very meticulously passes into his art . Terracotta to some might seem to be a rather simple technique.  To my mind it is not only the most ancient but also the most challenging among the sculptural techniques.  For Roshan lockdown was just an opportunity to let loose his creativity, which he has done exceptionally well.  He uses limited available materials and tools to mould and manipulate the available materials.

Dr Tirthinkar shared that being a silent worker is an asset . The creative energies assimilate to give a structure to one’s imagination.  Roshan’s imagination has the wings of freedom..his being in constant company of children as an art instructor has helped him not lose his creativity and  observation  with a child-like simplicity.

Webinar organized by Department of History of eminent academician, Prof. (Dr.) Heeraman Tiwari

Chandigarh July 9, 2020

For Detailed News-

Webinar organized by Department of History of eminent academician, Prof. (Dr.) Heeraman Tiwari

The Department of History, Panjab University, Chandigarh organized a Webinar and Lecture with eminent academician, historian and linguist expert, Dr. Heeraman Tiwari on 08 July, 2020 on the theme  ‘Language of History and Language in History: An Intellectual Tradition of Ancient India’.

The Chief patron of the lecture, Vice-Chancellor, Professor Raj Kumar conveyed his overwhelming appreciation of the consistent efforts of the Department of History in perpetuating academic efforts even in the times of the Corona Pandemic by inviting such eminent academicians and thinkers to address the students, research scholars and faculty members.

https://propertyliquid.com/

Professor S. K. Tomar, the Dean Students’ Welfare and Honorary Director of Human Resource Development Centre, Panjab University, Chandigarh in his welcome address highlighted how every successive step in the domain of knowledge makes him feel more humbled and eager to learn more. Dr. Anju Suri, Professor and Chairperson of the Department of History, Director of the event, apprised the almost 90 strong audience comprising faculty members from PU and other universities, students and researchers about the Speaker and the theme.

Professor Heeraman Tiwari who is a Professor in Centre for Historical Studies School of Social Sciences, JNU, New Delhi, has pursued his higher studies from Oxford University and is an established author of several books and research articles on various aspects of language, history and academia. Prof. Tiwari began by delving on the importance and vitality of using the right language and descriptive words in history so as to convey the intended meaning explicitly and with minimal chance of misinterpretation.

Prof. Tiwari expounded on how Patanjali in the ancient Sanskrit treatises has demonstrated the correct usage of language to explain and deduce meanings. The speaker highlighted the tradition of knowledge gaining and writing in ancient India which aimed to understand and contextualize the past. Language was praised because it was the only vehicle which could transmit the records of the past to the present. However, there was strict adherence to its adoption. Patanjali elaborated how one needed to understand meaning, context and channel of communication before going into the study of grammar. To Panini, anyone who is recording the past must have no self-interest to serve. Indian intellect considered knowledge a humbling experience.

Quoting examples from Sanskrit texts, he spoke about how language ought to be used, which words to use and which to avoid. The aim of language is to convey and protect culture and also contextualize knowledge. The greatest seeking starts while taking mundane subjects in the beginning and delves into the highest complexities of knowledge in the forms of questions and answers. The best example is the Bhagwat Gita in which the conversation between Arjun and Krishna is relatable even today. Arjuna, a warrior prince accepted his inability to unravel the greatest mysteries and decided to approach Lord Krishna as a layman even amidst a battle zone. The speaker stressed on the importance and role of the memory which is like a fish hook having direct connection with the present. According to him, time is relevant to look into Indic traditions of knowledge seeking and history writing which were earlier dismissed as children stories and abstract philosophies.

Professor Renu Thakur, Coordinator, Interdisciplinary Centre for Swami Vivekananda Studies and a Senior Professor in her summary comments congratulated the speaker on an excellent lecture and invited him to conduct a webinar again.

Dr. Priyatosh Sharma, the Associate Professor, Department of History and the convenor of the Webinar conducted Question and Answer Session and Dr. Ashish Kumar of the Department and the co-convenor, made preparations for the event. Dr. Jasbir Singh of the Department, delivered the vote of thanks.  The lecture was joined by experts from academic, scientists, researchers, students and faculty members from various diverse Departments and universities across India.

Chandigarh July 6, 2020

The Department of History and Interdisciplinary Centre of Swami Vivekananda Studies,
Panjab University, Chandigarh organized a Web Lecture of Shri Shankarananda, a
prominent Academician and the All India Joint Organising Secretary of the Bharatiya
Shikshan Mandal (BSM) on the theme of ‘Economics and Cultural Amalgamation: The Only
Way to Achieve Economic Stability’.

For Detailed News-

Prof Raj Kumar,Vice Chancellor in his opening remarks applauded the effort of the
Department for organizing the Web Lecture of high academic caliber. Prof Raj Kumar
touched on the relevance of the theme in the light of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic and

the need to steer the economy forward but not at the cost of  cultural heritage.

https://propertyliquid.com/

Shri Shankarananda began his lecture by congratulating the organizers and said that
they deserve appreciation for organizing a series of web lectures. He then started his
exposition on the theme by asserting that it is erroneous to compartmentalize various
branches of education. This compartmentalisation acts as impediment in the holistic
growth of the mind through education. Education, as per Indian objectives always aims
at the sacred principle that ‘education liberates the mind’. The intellectual
abilities, oratory skills and analytical presentation captured the mind and soul of the
audience as the speaker recounted how culture and education can be brought together to
create a powerful medium for the modern world. Through many anecdotes, stories and
extensive quoting from the ancient sources of wisdom such as Vedas and Shastras, Shri
Shankarananda spoke about how the economy still is dependent on age-old values and
ethics to be able to function and thrive. The speaker also spoke about how it is
possible to predict the vagaries of the economic situation using the traditional modes
which have been spelled out in the Indian classical Sanskrit treatises. He highlighted
the importance of economy, values of life, culture and dharma, the hallmarks of ancient
Indian history and appealed that these should be adopted in consonance and coordination
for the economic stability. These are useful in the process of our nation building. Our
nation by adhering to them can lead the whole world in showing the path of ultimate
solace and economic stability in the present time especially when the entire globe is
coping with the challenge of Covid-19 which has led to global economic instability.

Earlier,Professor Anju Suri, Chairperson of Department of History, the Director of the
event apprised the audience of the credentials of the eminent speaker, who is an
Engineer by formal education.  Speaking in chaste Hindi, in which the entire event was
organised, Dr Suri delved on various aspects of Indian culture in a nutshell. Shri
Shankarananda who has devoted his life to the service of the nation and Mother India is
actively engaged in education reforms in India. He is of the belief that the
Indianisation of education is important to liberate Indian academia from intellectual
colonial dependency of the west.

Professor Devendra Singh Thakur, Co-ordinator, Ambedkar Centre, Panjab University,
Chandigarh and Co-ordinator, Bhartiya Shikshan Mandal delivered the Vote of Thanks and
congratulated the Department of History and ICSVS for having conducted a series of
webinars featuring such distinguished speakers, who have been able to shed light on
many known and unknown aspects of history, culture, science, education etc. He remarked
that the moral values and ethics may be included in the syllabi of the University as
the effective tools for practically following the message of Shri Shankarananda ji.
