PU Faculty Got Grand Jury’s Special Recommendation

Dr. Dipti Sareen, Associate Prof  from  Department of Biochemistry, Panjab University received Grand Jury’s special recommendations for their innovation, Roseocin which can efficiently and effectively act as a synergistic antimicrobial agent, especially against drug-resistant bacterial species, at C-CAMP AMR-Quest 2020 grand Finale through a webinar on July 17, 2020 in the presence of Dr. Renu Swarup, Secretary to the Government of India, Department of Biotechnology, and Chairperson BIRAC.

The Centre for Cellular and Molecular Platforms(C-CAMP), a Department of Biotechnology (GOI) supported initiative with mandate to foster high-end research and innovation along with CARB-X, a Global Accelerator Network (GAN) under a public-private partnership led by Boston University to fund and support R&D and early development of products to combat AMR, held AMR-Quest 2020 Grand Finale.

The eminent panelists were Dr. Sundeep Sarin, Scientist ‘G’/Advisor, Department of Biotechnology, Government of India; Dr. Richard Lawson, CARB-X , USA; Dr. Kamini Walia, Scientist ‘F’, Division of Epidemiology and Communicable Diseases, ICMR and India Country Head, WHO and Dr. Anand Anand kumar, CEO and MD, Bugworks.

Dr. Renu Swarup, in her keynote address at CCAMP AMR-Quest Grand Finale, proposed a globally connected AMR-dedicated incubation hub in India in order to foster AMR innovations from ground-up. She said, “Funding is only one form of support. What innovators need is hand holding/acceleration”.“Covid-19 pandemic caught us unawares. But we cannot say the same for antimicrobial resistance. An infection without cure like the present pandemic is a curtain-raiser for the gravity of the public health challenge AMR poses. We need to fight back through a holistic, cohesive approach by all stakeholders including end users to build and sustain the next crop of AMR innovations. The AMR Quest is an attempt in this direction,” said Taslim Arif Saiyed, CEO and Director, C-CAMP.

हरियाणा रोडवेज में लगातार बढ़ रहे घाटे को लेकर कैबिनेट मंत्री मूलचंद शर्मा ने कहा कि वैश्विक बीमारी के चलते सभी विभागों में घाटा लगातार बढ़ रहा है और यह मुख्यमंत्री मनोहर लाल के भी संज्ञान में है,परिवहन मंत्री मूलचंद शर्मा हरियाणा रोडवेज के करीब 400 करोड़ के घाटे को पूरा करने की कवायद में लगे हुए थे, लेकिन इस बीच में वैश्विक महामारी कोरोना के चलते यह घाटा 400 करोड़ से बढ़कर साढ़े 800 करोड़ पर पहुंच गया. अब ऐसे में इसे पूरा करना एक चुनौती बन गया है,कैबिनेट मंत्री मूलचंद शर्मा का कहना है घाटा पूरा करने में लंबा वक्त लगेगा और यह घाटा केवल परिवहन विभाग में ही नहीं है बाकी के विभाग भी घाटे से जूझ रहे हैं,हरियाणा रोडवेज की बसों के संचालन को लेकर उन्होंने कहा कि पड़ोसी राज्यों के साथ जब तक सहमति नहीं बनती है तब तक बसें नहीं चलाई जा सकती

सेक्टर 46 मार्किट में स्तिथ हरियाणा डिपार्टमेंटल स्टोर में शार्ट सर्किट के वजह से अचानक भीषण आग लग गयी। आग इतनी भीषण थी की दुकान में रखा काफी सामान जल के राख हो गया। तुरंत आग लगने की सुचना पुलिस कण्ट्रोल रूम और दमकल विभाग को दी गयी जिससे मौके पर दमकल विभाग की कई गाड़ियां पहुंची और कुछ समय पश्चात आग पर काबू पाया गया। शहर चंडीगढ़ के सेक्टर 46 की मार्केट में स्थित एक दुकान अचानक आग की चपेट में आ गई है।

हालांकि सूचना पाकर मौके पे पहंचे दमकल कर्मियों ने आग पर काबू पा लिया है लेकिन आग लगने के चलते उठे धुएं पर पार पाना अभी जरा मुश्किल हो रहा है। दुकान में जिस तरह से धुंआ भरा हुआ है उसे देखकर यह अंदाजा लगाया जा सकता है कि आग तेज ही लगी होगी। फिलहाल कोई जानी नुकसान नहीं हुआ है लेकिन माली नुकसान जरूर हुआ है और कितना हुआ है अभी इस बारे में कुछ पता नहीं चल पाया है। धुंआ छटने के बाद ही नुकसान का आकलन हो सकेगा।

बता दें कि सेक्टर 46 की मार्किट स्थित हरियाणा नाम की दुकान पर आग लगी।दमकल विभाग के अनुसार, शुक्रवार सुबह करीब 8:30 बजे दुकान में आग लगने की सूचना मिली थी जिसके बाद विभाग के कर्मी फायर वैन के साथ फौरन मौके के लिए रवाना हो गए और वहां पहुचंकर कड़ी मशक्कत के बाद आग पर काबू पा लिया।गनीमत यह रही कि, आग अगल-बगल की दुकानों में नहीं फैली नहीं तो दृश्य भयावह हो सकता था। फिलहाल पुलिस दुकान में लगी आग के कारणों की जांच कर रही है। प्रथम दृश्यता से आग लगने की वजह शॉर्ट सर्किट को माना जा रहा है।

चंडीगढ़, पंचकूला और मोहाली में आज शुक्रवार को कोरोना वायरस के 88 नए मामले सामने आए हैं।

चंडीगढ़, पंचकूला और मोहाली में आज शुक्रवार को कोरोना वायरस के 88 नए मामले सामने आए हैं। इनमें 43 केस पंचकूला से 25 केस चंडीगढ़ और 20 केस मोहाली से हैं। वहीं चंडीगढ़ में चार लोगों को वायरस के मुक्ति मिलने के बाद डिस्चार्ज कर दिया गया। चंडीगढ़ में अभी तक 660 कोरोना संक्रमित मरीज सामने आ चुके हैं। जिनमें 480 कोरोना संक्रमित मरीज ठीक होकर घर लौट चुके हैं। इस समय 169 केस एक्टिव हैं।

चंडीगढ़ में शुक्रवार को सामने आए 25 मामलों में धनास में एक ही परिवार के सात लोग कोरोना संक्रमित पाए गए। इसके अलावा शुक्रवार को सेक्टर-45, सेक्टर-46, सेक्टर-26 बापूधाम कॉलोनी, सेक्टर-29, रामदरबार, सेक्टर-44, सेक्टर-35, सेक्टर-63, बुड़ैल, सेक्टर-30 और सेक्टर-20 से नए कोरोना पॉजिटिव केस सामने आए। शहर में अभी तक 660 लोगों में कोरोना वायरस की पुष्टि हो चुकी है। जबकि 480 कोरोना संक्रमित मरीज ठीक होने के बाद डिस्चार्ज किए जा चुके हैं। इस समय शहर में 169 कोरोना एक्टिव मरीज हैं। जिनका इलाज चल रहा है। शुक्रवार को शहर के चार कोरोना संक्रमित मरीज ठीक होने के बाद डिस्चार्ज हुए। ये चारों मरीज धनवंतरी आयुर्वेदिक कॉलेज से डिस्चार्ज हुए। इनमें सेक्टर-43 के 57 साल की महिला और 29 साल का युवक। जबकि सेक्टर-45 की 28 साल की युवती और 31 साल का पुरुष ठीक होने के बाद डिस्चार्ज हुआ।

उधर, पंचकूला में आईटीबीपी और सीआरपीएफ के 11 जवानों सहित कुल 43 लोगों में कोरोना संक्रमण की पुष्टि हुई है। इसके अलावा पंचकूला सेक्टर 16 स्थित डीजीएमईआर कार्यालय के 2 कर्मचारियों कर परिवार के 12 सदस्यों में भी कोरोना संक्रमण की पुष्टि हुई है। पंचकूला सिविल सर्जन डॉ जसजीत कौर ने की पुष्टि। उन्होंने बताया कि ज्यादातर कोरोना संक्रमित मामले वह सामने आ रहे हैं जो कोरोनाग्रस्त मरीजों के संपर्क में आकर संक्रमित हुए हैं। इसके साथ ही पंचकूला में कुल कोरोना संक्रमित  इसके साथ ही पंचकूला में कुल कोरोना संक्रमित मरीजों का आंकड़ा हुआ 320, जिनमें से पंचकूला जिले के कोरोना संक्रमित मरीज़ कुल 224 है वहीं 93 ऐसे कोरोना संक्रमित मरीज़ है जो सक्रिय हैं।

USES OF PHYSICS IN MEDICINE DISCUSSED IN PU

The Centre for Medical Physics jointly with the Centre for Nuclear Medicine, Panjab University organized a webinar on “USES OF PHYSICS IN MEDICINE” today.

Dr. Arun S. Oinam, Associate Professor, Department of Radiotherapy, PGIMER, Chandigarh. He spoke about different applications of Physics in the Cancer treatment machines around the world. Currently, large rectangular fields were replaced by smaller fields to obtain the Optimize Dose constraints using IMRT and VMAT and Particle Beam treatment in order to deliver the non-uniform dose distributions. Motion management, DICOM Image Research, Radiation Dosimetry, Precise Radiation Dose delivery and Dosimetry has been a challenging task of physicists to implement the safe radiotherapy treatments. The future and innovative method of radiotherapy treatment still lies in the hands of three basic different roles of three different professionals viz Clinician, Physicist and Technician.

 Dr. Vivek Kumar, Chairperson, Centre for Medical Physics concluded the webinar and thanked all the participants. Dr. Vivek also said that after Apollo Cancer Centre in Chennai, Kharghar’s Tata Memorial centre will be second to offer proton beam therapy—one of the world’s most  sophisticated cancer treatment -in the country and the entire Southeast Asia region. Using precision oncogenomics will be the future of cancer treatments.

More than 55 medical physicists, faculty, foreign scientists, M.Sc./PhD. students of the centres  attended the webinar.

MCC Panel meets over generation of revenue

Chandigarh, July 17:- A meeting of committee constituted by Smt. Raj Bala Malik, Mayor, Chandigarh to enhance revenue sources of the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh was held here today in the conference room of MCC, which was attended by member councilors namely Sh. Rajesh Kumar, Sh. Anil Kumar Dubey, Sh. Mahesh Inder Singh Siddhu, Sh. Davesh Moudgil, Sh. Satish Kumar Kainth, Sh. Satish Kumar Jain and Sh. Anil Kumar Garg, Additional Commissioners, Sh. Saurabh Arora, Joint Commissioner, Sh. Shailender Singh, Chief Engineer and other senior officers of Municipal Corporation Chandigarh.

During the meeting the financial status and sources to enhance the income of Municipal Corporation and following issues were discussed in detail:

·        As per the Act, the rights of revenue such as transfer of RLA and Stamp Duty etc. may be allowed to the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh to strengthen its financial position.

·        Short term, mid term and long term measures be taken in the field of revenue generation in all the resources.

·        Recommendations of 4th Delhi finance commission be implemented.

·        Possibilities be explored to conduct survey through agency regarding generating revenue resources in the MCC.

·        Agenda be brought out in the General House meeting of MCC to rent out or dispose off constructed properties case to case falling under the jurisdiction of MCC.

·        Village wise revenue record of properties and lands be generated.

·        Space for ATMs be identified in the community centres to generate revenue.

·        One post of Patwari and Kanungo be filled up to look after Estate wing in MCC to generate revenue records and maintain all the properties & land in villages falling under the jurisdiction of MCC.

·        Agenda be brought up in General house meeting to impose cess on sale and purchase deeds of properties and vehicles in Chandigarh.

·        The project of bus queue shelters be fully transferred to the MCC including liense fee and Advertisement fee.

·        Possibilities be explored to identify more Unipoll spaces in city to generate handsome revenue.

·        Advertisements be allowed on first come first serve basis only online for generating revenue for the time being till the tender of Advertisements in toilet blocks matures.

·        Department may workout on Neon advertisements on prominent buildings of MCC.

·        Booking of open spaces and advertisement permission through online to enhance the revenue.

·        Survey of Dhabas and eating joints for renting out the space on Sq. Ft. basis to allow table and chairs outside and corners besides their premises.

·        Advertisement control Act powers and rent be channelize through proper regulation and regular enforcement. Receipt of Challan fee be made instant/on the spot.

·        Water bill arrears be settled one time bases to recover the long pendency.

·        Policy of rent from mobile towers be reviewed in the next meeting.

·        Survey may be conducted to provide space for ATMs in the tubewells.

·        Survey may be conducted to fix dimmers on street lights and lights provide in the city parks.

The next meeting has been scheduled to be held on 24th July, 2020 at 11.00 am.

Re-registration in IGNOU till 31st July, 2020

In Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), the process of Re-registration (RR) for various Graduate and Post Graduate Degree Programmes for July, 2020 session is going on. The last date to apply for RR for July, 2020 session is 31st July, 2020. Dr. Anil Kumar Dimri, Regional Director, IGNOU Regional Centre Chandigarh informed that the RR of learners of 1st year and 2nd year of July, 2019 Session of various Degree Programmes e.g. BAG, BCOMG, BSCG, BAVTM, BSW is due for their 2nd year and 3rd year in July, 2020 session. Similarly the RR of learners of different Masters Degree Programmes of annual mode of July, 2019 session for 2nd year and the learners of BCA, MCA and Management Programmes (MP – MBA) of semester mode of January, 2020 session for next semester is due in July, 2020. The learners of previous sessions with valid admission period,  who could not apply for the RR for their next year or semester earlier due to various reasons, may also apply now for their pending RR.

PU Gets Grant of 1.40 Crores from Getty Foundation for Gandhi Bhawan

Chandigarh July 16, 2020

The Department of Gandhian and Peace Studies,  Panjab University, Chandigarh has received a grant of  Rs 1 crore 40 Lakhs from the Getty Foundation, USA as an announcement“ Keeping It Modern Grant”. As an exceptional case, this is the second grant given by the Getty Foundation for Gandhi Bhawan. Earlier in 2015 PU received grant of around 87 Lakhs Rs for the Conservation Management Plan(CMP) of Gandhi Bhawan.

Professor Raj Kumar, Vice Chancellor, Panjab University, expressed that this excellent announcement of grant for Gandhi Bhawan will enable Panjab University to do more research based projects related  to Architecture and Heritage. This will boost the morale of the faculty and students to take up similar projects in the future. Such grants for innovative techniques will take a University to a new level of research. As Panjab University has a rich history, iconic architectural heritage and artefacts too, we appreciate such grants for preserving our repository of heritage for future generations, he added. It is pertinent to mention here that Gandhi Bhawan is the only building of any Institution of India which has received the grant in 2015 and now in 2020 again. Earlier the work against grant received in 2015 was completed in 2017 with the support of the inhouse PU team, CMP was  prepared by Development and Research Organisation for Nature, Arts and Heritage (DRONAH), Gurgaon with support of IIT Madras and other associate experts which was duly approved by the Chandigarh Heritage Conservation Committee and guides all Implementation works for the site now.

With the approval of the project by Getty Foundation, now the major conservation works of the exterior which include the conservation of the exterior cladding panels and the reflecting pool are to be undertaken, thus completing total conservation of the Gandhi Bhawan exteriors. The project team includes Gandhi Bhawan, Chandigarh College of Architecture and DRONAH architects, conservation architects and landscape experts. The project will be started by November 2020 with all implementation works to be completed in a period of 1 year after which it will be monitored for another year to determine the impact of the water filled pool on the microclimate of the interiors of Gandhi Bhawan.

Importance of Healthy Diet discussed at Webinar by PUAA

Panjab University Alumni Association organized a Webinar on ‘Eat Well to Live Well’ by Dr. Rakesh Kochhar, Professor and Head, Department of Gastroenterology, Sub – Dean, Research, PGIMER, Chandigarh, today .

Prof. Deepti Gupta, Dean Alumni Relations, welcomed and introduced Dr. Kochhar who has a rich experience of 42 years with PGIMER. She informed that the webinar was aimed at demystifying diet fads and reinforcing the importance of healthy eating. 

Dr. Rakesh Kochhar gave a very informative presentation on various aspects of diet, weight and health like how to chew food, what is a healthy weight, intermittent fasting, calorie count of popular food items, myths and facts about diet, food poisoning, milk intolerance, energy intake and energy expenditure to name some.

Towards the end there were many interesting questions from the participants. Dr. Kochhar answered them in detail which shed more light on various myths about food and cleared everyone’s doubts. The remaining questions will be sent to Dr. Kochhar by email. A lot of appreciation and thanks poured in on the chat from the participants for Dr. Kochhar and PUAA. The participants even requested for another session with Dr. Kochhar which PUAA will try to organize.
