Prof. Raj Kumar , Vice Chancellor of Panjab University today released a book on the history of the Department of Geography, Panjab University, Chandigarh entitled “Romancing Department of Geography, 1960-2020” which has been authored by Dr. Gopal Krishan, Professor Emeritus, and alumnus of the first batch of Department of Geography.
Releasing the document, the Vice-Chancellor appreciated the initiative taken by the Department of Geography in producing the document. He added that it had been his vision to strengthen the bond of the University with its alumni and this document was proof of this vision taking the shape of reality. The book was part of a heritage corner produced by the Department in its newly renovated library. He wished the Department the very best in time to come.

Chandigarh, October 28:-The Municipal Corporation Chandigarh has signed MoU with the Indian Oil Corporation as dealer for opening retail outlet at Industrial area Phase-2, Chandigarh.
The Letter of appointment has been exchanged between the MCC and IOC through Sh. K.K. Yadav, IAS, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh and Sh. Manjit Walia, Chief Divisional Retail Sales Manager in MCC office here today.
The Commissioner informed that the Chandigarh Administration has allotted Industrial area Phase-2, Chandigarh for opening and running the Petrol Pump to the MCC and after inviting expression of interest from Govt. Oil companies, Indian Oil Corporation was selected and entered into MoU with the Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh. The work of completion at site is going on war footing level and the petrol pump will be commissioned shortly, he added.

The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has extended the last date of submission of online Fresh admission of all Masters, Bachelor & Diplomas programmes up to 31st October, 2020 for the July-2020 session. This extension of last date shall not apply to Certificate and Semester-based programmes, i.e., MP, MPB, PGDMM, PGDFM, PGDHRM, PGDOM, PGDFMP, DBPOFA, PGDIS, MCA, BCA, and all Certificate and Awareness programmes of 6 months duration or less. Details of the IGNOU academic programmes for the July, 2020 session can be accessed from the link https://ignouadmission.samarth.edu.in/. The prospective learners can apply for Masters/Bachelor/Diploma programmes of the University on the official website, informed The Regional Director of IGNOU Regional centre Chandigarh Dr. A.K.Dimri. Last date of submission of ‘online’ admission form for the July session was earlier fixed for October 25.
For all those candidates, who have been planning to get admission in any of the IGNOU courses can apply for the same online. Firstly the candidate has to register themselves (if not registered) on the official website i.e https://ignouadmission.samarth.edu.in/. Whereas those who have already registered can simply login with the id- password and fill up the application form for the admission in the July session at Indira Gandhi National Open University for 2020. Also, before filling up the IGNOU admission form, candidates must go through the general instructions, eligibility criteria, fee details, duration, etc. on the official website. Applicants can also download the complete details of the programmes from the IGNOU website.
Learners can also take provisional admission in Bachelor and Master Degree Programmes pending due to declaration of their final year result. However such learners will have to submit their completed certificate/degree/marksheet by 31st December 2020. In case it is not submitted their admission will be cancelled and fee will be refunded as per University norms.

Panjab University Alumni Association in collaboration with Swayam Cell, Panjab University, organized a webinar “National Education Policy 2020: Joining the Dots” on 23 October.
Dr. Vishal Sharma, Coordinator Swayam Cell, Panjab University, welcomed the speakers and moderated the event. The honorable speakers for the event were Ms Vinita Arora, Dr. Rajiv Khosla and Mr. Sanjiv Gupta.
Ms. Vinita Arora, Senior Principal, Bhavan Vidhyala since 2016 explained the change from 10+2 to 5+3+3+4 system of the NEP 2020 in school education and its benefits. She spoke about vocational education and 36 degree assessment of students where the student will be assessed by his peers, self and teachers now. During interaction with the participants Ms. Arora agreed that the teachers should be trained before the implementation of NEP and a change in their mindset is also required so that they give equal importance to academics as well as sports or other areas like music and dance.
Dr. Rajiv Khosla, Associate Professor in DAV Institute of Management, Chandigarh discussed various other countries like England, Canada, Singapore etc. where our students looked up to for higher education. He discussed interesting facts about their education policies and said they have very strategically defined their educational objectives. He said that NEP 2020 is a very timely policy, the best brains have been used and lakhs of suggestions have been considered before making it. What is left is implementation of this policy. Dr Khosla also discussed the positive points and challenges of the policy.
Mr. Sanjiv Gupta, Chief GM –Manufacturing, SML ISUZU LTD, former Business Head, Swaraj Automotive Ltd. and Plant Head at M & M (Swaraj Division) prior to joining SML Isuzu Ltd. discussed the industry academia aspect of the policy. He said the good part of the policy is that students will gain numeric skills and critical thinking from a very young age now which will help them in their careers. He also said that the multiple entry and exit option available to students, innovation centres and entrepreneur cells available to students will be for their benefit. He also suggested that there should be a mix of industry experts and academicians in training and teaching. Mr Gupta concluded by saying that if there is a policy that helps in the proper collaboration of the industry and academics and proper teacher training then NEP 2020 will be unstoppable.
Next was an interesting round of interaction between the participants and the speakers where many questions were answered by all the speakers. Prof. Shashi Chowdhry said that it was a very informative session and she was glad that she could attend it. Ms. Sonia Chandel from PUAA proposed a vote of thanks.

चंडीगढ़, 24 अक्टूबर। हरियाणवी संस्कृति का अभिन्न हिस्सा रहे मुढे अब गांवों की पंचायतों व चौपालों की शान बढ़ाएंगे। प्रदेश के डिप्टी सीएम दुष्यंत चौटाला ने ग्राम पंचायतों को बैठने के लिए मुढे उपलब्ध करवाने का निर्णय लिया है। हरियाणा खादी एवं ग्रामोद्योग बोर्ड इन मुढों को तैयार करवागा और पंचायत विभाग हरियाणा के कोने-कोने तक मुढें पहुंचाएगा। प्रथम चरण में एक हजार गांवों में ये मुढे दिए जाएंगे। खादी बोर्ड के चेयरमैन की नियुक्ति के बाद पहला ऑर्डर डिप्टी सीएम ने दिया है। दुष्यंत चौटाला का यह कदम गांवों में कुटीर व ग्रामोद्योगों के साथ साथ आत्मनिर्भरता को बढ़ावा देने की दिशा में भी महत्वपूर्ण साबित होगा। दरअसल, उपमुख्यमंत्री दुष्यंत चौटाला वीरवार को खादी एवं ग्रामोद्योग बोर्ड के नवनियुक्त चेयरमैन रामनिवास सुरजाखेड़ा को पदभार संभलवाने के लिए पंचकुला में बोर्ड के कार्यालय गए थे। पदभार संभलवाने के बाद दुष्यंत चौटाला कार्यालय का निरीक्षण करने लगे। कार्यालय में ही खादी बोर्ड द्वारा बनाए जाने वाले खादी के वस्त्र, कुटीर व ग्रामोद्योग से जुड़ी अन्य वस्तुओं को प्रदर्शित किया गया था। इसी दौरान अनायास ही दुष्यंत की नजर वहां रखे मुढे पर पड़ी। वे तुरंत वहां रखे मुढे के पास गए और उन्होंने अधिकारियों से पूछा कि ये मुढा यहां बैठने के लिए है या खादी बोर्ड इसे बेचता भी है? इसपर अधिकारियों ने बताया कि गांवों के कारीगरों से खादी बोर्ड ये मुढे तैयार करवाता है और इन्हें बेचता है। यह सुनते ही दुष्यंत बोले… “अरे वाह, बहुत खूबसूरत हैं ये मुढे”। हरियाणा के कारीगरों से बने मुढे इस कदर पंसद आए कि उन्होंने अधिकारियों को मौके पर पूछा कि दस हजार मुढे आप कितने दिन में तैयार कर सकते हो। इस बारे में उन्होंने अधिकारियों को जल्द ही रिपोर्ट करने को कहा।
शुक्रवार को हुई हरियाणा खादी एवं ग्रामोद्योग की प्रथम बैठक में मुढों को गांवों तक पहुंचाने बारे विचार किया गया और खादी बोर्ड को दस हजार मुढे तैयार करवाने को कहा गया। डिप्टी सीएम ने प्रथम चरण में हरियाणा की एक हजार पंचायतों को मुढे पहुंचाने का फैसला किया। ये मुढे प्रदेश के विकास एवं पंचायत विभाग द्वारा खरीद कर पंचायतों को दिए जाएंगे। उन्होंने कहा कि इससे न केवल हमारे कुटीर उद्योग को बढ़ावा मिलेगा बल्कि आत्मनिर्भरता के साथ-साथ कारीगरों की आमदनी बढ़ाने की ओर यह अहम कदम साबित होगा।
*…जननायक स्व. देवीलाल ने पहुंचाए थे गांवों में मुढे*पूर्व उपप्रधानमंत्री स्व. जननायक चौ. देवीलाल का भी मुढो के प्रति खासा लगाव था। वे स्वयं भी बैठने के लिए मुढे का प्रयोग करते थे और जहां कहीं भी पांच छह लोग मुढो पर बैठे दिखते तो चौ. देवीलाल अपनी गाड़ी रूकवाकर उनके पास जाकर ग्रामीणों का हालचाल जानते थे। हरियाणा के मुख्यमंत्री रहते हुए स्व. चौ. देवीलाल ने गांवों की पंचायत घरों में मुढे पहुंचाए थे। उनकी सोच थी कि गांवों में बनी वस्तुएं बाजार में बिकेंगी तो इससे गांवों में कुटीर उद्योगों को बढ़ावा मिलेगा, उनकी आमदनी बढ़ेगी और ग्रामीण क्षेत्रों में लोगों का जीवन स्तर उंचा उठेगा। उनके परपौत्र दुष्यंत चौटाला ने भी उनके नक्शेकदम पर चलते हुए गांवों में मुढे पहुंचाने का निर्णय लिया है जिससे कि ग्रामीण आंचल के कारीगरों को प्रोत्साहन मिलेगा।

चंडीगढ़-23 अक्टूबर। भारतीय जनता पार्टी और जननायक जनता पार्टी गठबंधन सरकार की पहली वर्षगांठ पर हिसार में अंतरराष्ट्रीय स्तर के हवाई अड्डा की योजना को पंख लग जाएंगे। 27 अक्टूबर को हिसार एयरपोर्ट के लिए भूमि-पूजन का कार्यक्रम तय किया गया है।
अब तक कागजी औपचारिकताएं पूरी होने के बाद हिसार वासियों का इंटरनेशनल एयरपोर्ट बननेसपने को सरकार जल्द से जल्द पूरा करना चाहती है। हवाई अड्डा निर्माण के लिए प्रशासनिक स्तर पर सभी औपचारिकताएं पूरी कर ली गई हैं। केंद्रीय पर्यावरण एवं वन मंत्रालय विभाग से हवाई अड्डे के निर्माण कार्य शुरू करने संबंधी हरी झंडी मिल गई है और अब एयरपोर्ट के आधारभूत ढांचे का निर्माण कार्य शुरू हो सकेगा।
डिप्टी सीएम दुष्यंत चौटाला ने हिसार में इंटरनेशनल लेवल के एयरपोर्ट बनाने की योजना को धरातल पर उतारने में खासी रूचि दिखाई और उन्होंने लॉकडाउन के दौरान भी उड्डयन व विमानन क्षेत्र से जुड़ी कंपनियों व अधिकारियों के साथ मेराथन बैठकें की। इतना ही नहीं केंद्रीय वन एवं पर्यावरण मंत्रालय से हवाई अड्डे के क्लियरेंस लेने के लिए समय सीमा तय करके अधिकारियों की विशेष तौर पर डयूटी लगाई। डिप्टी सीएम की गंभीरता का ही नजीता है कि तय समय सीमा में हिसार हवाई अड्डे से केंद्रय पर्यावरण विभाग से एनओसी मिली तथा गठबंधन सरकार की पहली वर्षगांठ पर 27 अक्टूबर को हवाई अड्डा बनाने की योजना को अमली-जामा पहनाने की प्रक्रिया शुरू होगी।
डिप्टी सीएम दुष्यंत चौटाला ने कहा कि हरियाणा को आगामी समय में एविएशन हब के रूप में विकसित किया जाएगा। इसमें हिसार का हवाई अड्डे का निर्माण मील का पत्थर रहेगा वहीं भिवानी में एविशन क्लब, महेंद्रगढ़ में एडवेंचर स्पोर्टस सेंटर सहित करनाल व पंचकुला में हवाई पट्टियों का विस्तारीकरण करने पर सरकार का फोकस रहेगा।
डिप्टी सीएम ने बताया कि हवाई अड्डे के विस्तारीकरण का सबसे महत्वपूर्ण अंग हवाई पट्टी की लंबाई बढ़ाना है। वर्तमान हवाई पट्टी के अलावा तीन हजार मीटर नई हवाई पट्टी बनाने का काम शुरू हो जाएगा। हवाई पट्टी के साथ साथ ही टैक्सी वे, टैक्सी स्टैंड, जहाज के लिए पार्किंग स्पेस, टर्मिनल, एयर टै्रफिक कंट्रोल सिस्टम स्थापित करने की दिशा में चरणबद्ध तरीके से काम शुरू होगा। हिसार हवाई अड्डे की चारदीवारी निर्माण की प्रक्रिया शुरू होगी वहीं आतरिक सुरक्षा हेतु फैंसिंग लगाने की प्रक्रिया जारी है।
डिप्टी सीएम दुष्यंत चौटाला ने कहा कि हिसार के हवाई अड्डे को अत्याधुनिक बनाया जाएगा जिससे कि यहां रात को भी बड़े हवाई जहाज लैंड कर सकेंगे। कम विजिबिलिटी में जहाज को लैंड करने की समस्या से निपटने के लिए भी पूरे इंतजाम किए जाएंगे और इसके लिए इस प्रकार की अत्याधुनिक तकनीक युक्त लाइट स्थापित करने का प्रस्ताव है। जिससे कि 24 घंटे हवाई जहाज के आवागमन की सुविधा रहेगी।

University School of Open Learning, Panjab University organised a webinar on the theme “Connecting the World with Data we can Trust” to celebrate the 3rd World statistics Day, today. Eminent speakers Prof. David D. Hanagal from University of Pune and Prof. B. K. Hooda from CCSHAU, Hisar delivered lectures.
Prof. Madhurima Verma, Chairperson, USOL delivered the welcome address. Over 140 participants joined this webinar.
Prof.David D. Hanagal highlighted three different software reliability growth models and found their estimates with the use of three real data sets.
Prof. B. K. Hooda enlightened on the contributions of Statisticians and presented statistical methods for research workers we can trust.

Since 29th July 2020, when the National Education Policy 2020 was approved by the Union Cabinet, the academic world has been surcharged with Webinars.
In this context, first of its kind an eBook on National Education Policy 2020 was formally released by the Governor of Chhatisgarh, Ms Anusuiya Uikey, today at the National Webinar on National Education Policy 2020: Reflections from Stakeholder organized by the Kushabhau Thakre Patrakarita Avam Jansanchar Vishwavidyalaya (LTPAJV), Raipur. At the event Prof Raj Kumar was the Guest of Honour.
The eBook, compilations of thoughts of stakeholders from the different segments of the strata has been co-edited by Dr Kalpana K Mahajan and Dr Ravi K Mahajan from the Panjab University, Dr Manoj Saxena from HP Central University and Dr Qazi Maher Ali from the Aligarh Muslim University. The book carries reflections from all the corners of the country.
While referring to the emerging collaboration with the universities in France, Prof Raj Kumar, in his address laid emphasis on the Resource Sharing as key to success in the implementation of the National Educating Policy 2020.Professor Raj Kumar shared in particular his experience of the Central Instrumentation laboratory (CIL) of Panjab University. And he envisioned the role of CIL in extending its experience and expertise in the tribal areas of Chhatisgrah. On the implementation of the NEP, Prof Raj Kumar expressed that the onus is on the universities and the faculty has to play a pro-active role.
Governor of Chhatisgarh Ms Anusuiya Uikey in her address referred about the role of educating children in the local language. And she referred about diminishing knowable about the key herbs which is being lost because of ignoring the component of local language.
At the Webinar Dr Pankaj Mittal, the Secretary General Association of Indian Universities, delivered the Key Note Address. In her address, Dr Pankaj Mittal eulogized on the role of Academic Bank of Credit, which promises an ultimate flexibility to the students.
The Webinar was also addressed by Prof Baldev Bhai Sharma, the Vice Chancellor of LTPAJV, Raipur and Prof Kuldeep Chand Agnihotri, the Vice Chancellor of the Central University of Himachal Pradesh University.

Panjab University Alumni Association in collaboration with Institute of Educational Technology and Vocational Education organized a webinar “ Transforming Indian Education Through NEP 2020: A Roadmap” by Prof. Sanjay Deshmukh,Professor of Life Sciences at Mumbai University.
Prof. Deshmukh discussed the role of Universities in 1960’s which was Creation, Preservation and Dissemination of knowledge. He compared it to role of Universities as viewed today, i.e, Creation of research and innovation, Preservation of academic infrastructure, Dissemination of Knowledge: perception of students on teaching and learning. He said that Universities should not prepare for the future rather they should mould the future.
He discussed different types of Intelligence and approaches to learning. Speaking about IQ he said that an individual’s intelligence cannot be a fixed quantity that cannot be increased, to which a lot of participants agreed. Then he discussed the seven steps that led to NEP 2020 and the challenges in contemporary times in education, assessment, transformation of agenda etc. Prof Deshmukh discussed the key elements and features of NEP 2020 in detail. He explained every aspect of the policy and said it is the policy for the next generation. He discussed the vision for schools, success indicator of the policy, multidisciplinary approach, ODL for all institutions etc.
Prof. Deshmukh discussed many other key features of the policy and concluded by explaining the last lines of the Gayatri Mantra and quoting from the Rigveda ‘ May all thoughts be inspired by that divine light and dispel the darkness’.
Earlier, Dr. Kanwalpreet Kaur, Chairperson, Institute of Educational Technology and Vocational Education Panjab University welcomed and introduced Prof. Deshmukh.She informed that
Prof. Sanjay Deshmukh is an internationally acclaimed Life Scientist who holds vast experience of all shades of the academic and education administration paradigm. Prof. Deshmukh is PhD (Mumbai University), DSc (Honoris Causa, RML Avadh Univ., UP) – India; FNESA [LEAD Fellow (INDIA) – Cohort 11] Professor of Life Sciences; Formerly, Vice-Chancellor University of Mumbai. He was the youngest Vice Chancellor of University of Mumbai. He holds extensive field level research experience- spanning over 50 countries. He is also the r ecipient of DSc (honoris causa) from Ram Manohar Lohia Avadh University, Uttar Pradesh, in recognition of monumental research and academic contributions to Higher Education.

Placement Cell, UIAMS successfully launched its mentorship program “CICERONE 1.0” in an online mode which was convened by Rashi Vats (student). The occasion was graced by the presence of Prof. Upasna Joshi Sethi, Director, UIAMS and Dr. Amandeep Singh Marwaha, Training and Placement Officer, the faculty members, and several alumni members from the passed out batches.
“CICERONE 1.0” is a mentorship program designed to bridge the gap between student life and the corporate world. The aim of the program is to clear the fear in students’ minds and to give a first-hand experience of the corporate world. The project is an initiative of students from the college’s placement cell and the team consists of – Saloni (Project co-ordinator), Rashi Vats (Content Creator), Rohit (Creative head), Sushmita Aggarwal (Digital Marketing Head), and Dr. Amandeep Singh Marwaha (Public Relations).
Prof. Upasna declared the Project CICERONE open. She appreciated the initiative and was elated by the efforts shown by the team to officially launch this project. She advised the students to exploit this opportunity to its fullest.
CICERONE began as a pilot project with a batch of 6 students and a 4 session mentorship was provided to them by ArpitUppal (2011-2013), Harsimran Kaur (2010-2012), DhruvVashisht (2014-2016), and Kautaq Singh Cheema (2017-2019). The pilot project was successful which lead the team to launch the project officially. The mentor in this program will be the college alumni who are industry experts, educational gurus, specific domain experts, and entrepreneurs, all from different walks of life.
Dr Amandeep Singh Marwaha told that UIAMS has a history of 10 glorious passed out batches. The students will be divided into different batches of six students each. Each batch will be provided with a mentor. It is a month-long program. Team CICERONE aims to carry out this project as an ongoing event in the future.
Nitish Chawla, an alumnus batch (2013-2015) said,” I, thank you all for this initiative. I am nostalgic about my college days, how the guidance of our teacher has helped us do better in life”. The occasion was further graced by Kautaq Cheema (2017-19), Shivam Kaisha (2017-2019), Nikhil Dhingra (2011-2013), Lovepreet Singh Sidhu (2016-2018), all alumni of the college.
The faculty members present during the event which included Dr. Nishi Sharma, Dr. Anupreet Kaur Mavi, Dr. Manjushri Sharma and Dr. Rachita Sambyal wished the team great success for the initiative. The students who were present thanked the Placement Cell and Team CICERONE for their efforts for this initiative.
