Chandigarh, May 27:- A meeting of the Finance and Contract committee, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh was held here today under the chairmanship of Sh. Ravi Kant Sharma, Mayor and attended by Sh. K.K. Yadav, IAS, Commissioner and other members of committee namely Sh. Anil Kumar Dubey, Sh. Rajesh Kumar, Sh. Satish Kumar Kainth, Smt. Sunita Dhawan, councilors. Sh. Tilak Raj, Sh. S.K. Jain and Sh. Anil Kumar Garg, Additional Commissioners, Sh. Sorabh Arora, Joint Commissioner, Sh. Shailender Singh, Chief Engineer, Sh. Sanjay Arora, SE (B&R), Sh. K.P. Singh, SE (Horticulture), Dr. Amrit Warring, Medical Officer of Health and other concerned officers of MCC.

During the meeting, the committee accorded approval to following important agenda items:-

·        Procurement of excavator cum loader and tipper dumper for lifting of malba from parks, lifting/stacking of wood, removal of uprooted trees from site during wind/storm etc. under horticulture division at an estimated cost of Rs. 50 lacs through GeM portal.

·        Auction of unserviceable T&P, play equipments, benches, MS flat railing and scraped material having approximately weight 24965 kg lying in the Horticulture stores of Sector 8, 10, 16, 23, 36 and 38, Chandigarh as per reserve price of Rs. 6.36 lacs.

·        Rough cost estimate for providing street lights in park near with house No. 372,393, 408, 417 and back of house No. 601 to 621, sector 40-A, Chandigarh at an estimated cost of Rs. 1.77 lacs.

·        Rough cost estimate for development of space between parking/road adjoining and infront of quiet office, sector 40-B, Chandigarh under horticulture division at an estimated cost of Rs. 7.04 lacs.

·        Rough cost estimate for supply, erection and commissioning of air conditioners in community centre, sector 39, Chandigarh at an estimated cost of Rs. 13.57 lacs.

·        Regarding inviting open tenders/bids for the allotment of space for setting up of Pollution check centre and ATM machines at both MCC Petrol Pumps.

·        Auction of unserviceable/condemned articles lying at Sanitation garage, industrial area Phase-I, Chandigarh.

·        Rough cost estimate for making various connection from 24” i/d MS main canal water line to various boosters at Aman & Chaman colony, Dhanas, village Sarangpur, HBC 8448 Dhanas and village Dhanas, Chandigarh at an estimated cost of Rs. 34.68 lacs.

·        Rough cost estimate for providing various faculties; prayer/waiting hall, additional two cremation sheds, seating arrangement, bathing area for gents and ladies including toilet blocks, chowkidar, pujari & store room, landscaping at shamshan ghat (cremation ground) Maloya village, Chandigarh at an estimated cost of Rs. 49.11 lacs.

WEBINAR SERIES “MIND MARATHON” AT UIFT & VD – “EXPLORING ANXIETY: STRESSORS AND COPING”

University Institute of Fashion Technology & Vocational Development, (UIFT & VD), Panjab University started with a webinar series titled “Mind Marathon” on May 25, 2021. “This series has been launched at a time when there is a lot of anxiety and other mental health difficulties, and it will help not only students but society as a whole,” said Dr. Anu H. Gupta, Chairperson . The webinar drew around 90 people, including faculty from various institutions and colleges, research experts, and students.

The speaker for the first webinar in this series titled “Exploring Anxiety: Stressors and Coping” was Dr. Sheba Singh, a consultant psychologist in Nahar Medical Centre and an academician from Mumbai.  She discussed the technical aspects of the anxiety’s operation. In light of the challenging times of this second wave of Covid 19, she entailed a discourse of the new anxieties developing in the health workers, patients, students and their family members. Her experience of 20 years in the field of psychology reflected in her simplified approach of making a dialogue with the students undergoing signs of anxiety and depression. An explanation on the Covid stress consisting of different stages viz. pre-Covid, during Covid, and post-Covid helped the audience to recognize the need of coping with these for better mental health. All participants took part in a practical activity in which they measured their stress levels. She elaborated a number of self-help techniques, including allied practices like deep breathing, yoga, exercise, listening to music, planning an activity calendar in advance and following it, and keeping in touch with friends and family members on a regular basis.

Ms. Harleen, Faculty UIFT & VD, appreciated and thanked Dr. Sheba for enlightening the participants with perspective on several areas of anxiety and how to overcome it. This webinar served as a forum for students to open up about their tumultuous mental states and seek help in managing. The session proved to be a great source of information for awakening oneself towards a healthy mind. It was a welcome call for many, who have always needed to be heard about their emotions and suppressed feelings.

Humour is a tax-free tonic amidst stress, strain and strife with its evergreen impact on one’s mind, says Dr. Ali Abbas, Coordinator of the department of Urdu, Panjab University, Chandigarh while speaking at the 5th Online meeting of Bazm-e-Adab organised by the department. He said that humour created by a satire either in verse or prose was for the enjoyment of all. Literature of all the known languages had produced grant satire and satire and satirists whose very mention was able enough to bring a cheerful smile on the lips of all. Sometimes tactfully arranged words can clinch the desired results without firing a bullet or resorting to agitations,Dr. Ali Abbas added.

In her presidential remarks Prof. (Retd.) Rehana Parveen, highlighted the all-important role played by satires in the development, spread and popularisation of Urdu literature and language in India and abroad.

Mr Papu Ram, a research scholar of the department of Urdu presented his paper on the topic “Satires in the modern Urdu literature” elaborating the age old traditions of satires in Urdu literature and further enriched by Mirza Ghalib, Rattanlal Sarshar, Mohamad Azad, Patras Bukhari, Kanhayalal kapur, Patras Bukhari, Yusuf Nazim, Mujtaba Husain and others.

Mr.Zaheer Haider, a research scholar in the department of Urdu, proposed  the vote of thanks.

PU VC Holds Online Planning and Review Workshop with AR/DR

Administrative and finance assistance to researchers/ faculty/ students is a strong pillar for the efficient working of the system. Hence to review administrative activities, Professor Raj Kumar, Vice-Chancellor, Panjab University chaired an Online Planning and Review Workshop with Assistant/ Deputy Registrars, today. In this workshop, the activities and challenges of various branches of university were discussed.

PU Vice Chancellor shared his concern of COVID spread among the staff and their families. He also shared the actions by the university to facilitate the staff to handle the current pandemic. He emphasized that all the staff members should facilitate all the stakeholders without any delay using ICT technology. He also stressed on usage of Information Communication Technology for the administrative processes. Also, the challenges pertaining to different branches were shared by the respective branch heads. New approaches to these problems were discussed. It was discussed to have regular meetings of the group in order to reduce communication gap.

PU Organizes Webinar on Patent Waiver on Covid Vaccines and Medicines

IPR-Chair in association with Department of Microbial Biotechnology, Panjab University, Chandigarh  organized a webinar  today about an ongoing contentious issue entitled ‘Patents on Vaccines and Medicines: Understanding Licensing and Patent Waiver Issues’, informed Prof.RupinderTewari, IPR-Chair Professor.

The talk was delivered by a well known IPR expert, Dr Yashwant D Panwar, Head, Patent Facilitation Centre (PFC) of Technology, Information Forecasting and Assessment Council (TIFAC),GoI, New Delhi. Dr Panwar elaborated on the details of covid related patents available online, and urged Indian scientists to make use of this information and design new covid vaccines and novel drugs that can be patented. He informed the gathering that a robust Indian Patent Act is in place and has the provision of patent waiver and compulsory licensing of the patented technologies during an emergency like corona pandemic.

 However, the situation is complicated as India is a signatory to the TRIPS (Trade Related Intellectual Property Rights) Agreement of World Trade Organization (WTO) established by the United Nations. As per TRIPS agreement, patent waivers can only be implemented in member countries provided there is consensus among the 164 nations who are signatory to TRIPS. The Indian government is pushing hard to rope in countries, primarily Japan and European nations,showing reluctance to patent waiver for vaccines, medicines and other items involved in the treatment of corona infections. Online Planning and Review Workshop

Panjab University is taking a quantum leap into the future by continuously taking new initiatives which can benefit the research, innovation and learning environment. Interaction among researchers/ scientists/ industry is quite important to work out the solutions for societal problems. Student participation in such events prepare the future generations of scientists/ researchers. Any closure or reduction of these activities can have detrimental impact on the research output of the university. Hence to accelerate these activities, Professor Raj Kumar, Vice-Chancellor, Panjab University chaired an Online Planning and Review Workshop today .

In this workshop, the activities and plan of SAIF/CIL Lab, Design Innovation Centre, CIIPP, Skill Development, Bio-Nest Incubator, Institute Innovation Council, DST Centre for Policy Research have been discussed. Director/ Coordinators of these verticals participated in the meeting.

The Vice Chancellor emphasized that every vertical must involve at-least three university departments and one centre for its activities, hence involving a minimum of 21 departments. Focus of the verticals should be on Patent/ Publication and consultancy. These centres should also connect alumni by starting a Lecture Series by them. A coordination committee of the centers should meet and monitor the plan after every 15 days. Also, the centre will prepare a plan for the academic session 2021-2022.

Professor Ganga Ram shared that a new machine ‘MALDI Synapt XD HD Mass Spectrometer Facility’ has been installed in CIL during recent days and will be operational soon . A workshop to coordinate all the activities and promote startups will be planned to be held shortly. Professor Renu Vig, Professor Rakesh Tuli, Professor Manu Sharma, Professor Vipin Bhatnagar, Professor Harish Kumar, Dr. Rohit Sharma participated in the workshop. They all shared the recent developments of their verticals in the research and development.

निश्चित रूप से कोरोना ने हमें अपने जीवन में बहुत सारे तौर तरीके नए सिखाए हैं नए शब्द हमें सिखाएं हैं जैसे एकांतवास, सामाजिक दूरी आदि आदि। इसी कड़ी में कोरोना काल में शादियों के स्वरूप भी बदल दिए हैं । प्रत्येक परिस्थिति के कुछ अच्छे और बुरे प्रभाव होते हैं। शादी के दृष्टिकोण से, यदि देखा जाए अब शादियां केवल दोनों परिवार मिलकर कर रहे हैं जिसमें सिर्फ दोनों परिवारों के प्रमुख व्यक्ति ही उपलब्ध रहते हैं अधिकतम 7 से 8 लोग, इस प्रकार के प्रयास से दोनों ही पक्ष पर आर्थिक बोझ भी नहीं उत्पन्न हो रहा है साथ ही साथ दहेज प्रथा का जो कलंक, हमारे समाज पर था उसका अंत भी होता दिखाई दे रहा है । इसी कड़ी में पतंजलि योग समिति चंडीगढ़ के राज्य प्रभारी श्री विनोद भारद्वाज जी, मोहाली निवासी ने एक उदाहरण प्रस्तुत करते हुए, अपने पुत्र की शादी इस कोरोना काल में निश्चित की, केवल दोनों परिवार के साथ आठ लोगों ने भाग लेकर, जिसमें वर सौरव जी और वधू मोनिका का शुभ पानी गृह संस्कार 20 मई को पूर्ण हुआ। इस प्रकार की शादी समाज में मार्गदर्शन का कार्य करती है जिसमें समाजिक दूरी का ध्यान रखते हुए हम कोरोना के नियमों का पालन करते हैं साथ ही दहेज प्रथा जैसी सामाजिक बुराई को भी दूर करने में सहायक होते हैं। ऐसे परिवारों का समाज में स्वागत होना चाहिए।

SAIF, PU Presents Molekule Air Purifiers to AIIMS Bhatinda

Today at SAIF, Panjab University, Chandigarh, Prof. V.R. Sinha, Dean of University Instructions and Prof. Anuradha, Internal Quality Assurance Cell on behalf of Vice Chancellor, PU and Molekule USA handed over 20 Air purifiers to AIIMS, Bathinda. These Air purifiers are donated by USA based company Molekule Inc. and SAIF PU is distributing these units amongst various hospitals in India.

As India is going through a very Challenging time amidst the second wave of deadly coronavirus and this virus is known to be transmitted from person to person by exposure to aerosolized respiratory droplets. This makes adequate indoor air purification and ventilation extremely critical. Prof. G.R. Chaudhary, Director, SAIF and Dr. Rajeev Kumar from Environment Studies demonstrated the working of these Air Purifiers.

PU Office Timings to be from 9am to 2pm Till 31st May

In order to review the status of COVID-19 cases in Panjab University, on the basis of information received through Online Portal launched for the purpose, from different departments/branches/offices of the University and to suggest measures to contain the further spread of corona cases, it has been decided after a threadbare discussion in an online meeting, on the matter, held today, to implement the following measures with effect from 21.05.2021: –

       1.   The Office timings of the University may be observed from 9.00 a.m. to 2.00 p.m. with 50% staff strength. The roster for the same shall be prepared by the concerned Controlling Officer. However, Officers of the level of Office Superintendent and above shall attend the office on a daily basis.

2.     The remaining non-attending 50% staff shall work from home under the instructions of their Controlling Officers.

3.     No staff shall leave the station without the prior sanction of the Controlling Officer.

4.     In order to attend to the urgent and time-bound assignments and also to the matters concerning students/research scholars requiring immediate intervention, the concerned Controlling Officers shall attend the office with concerned subordinate staff, if required, beyond 2.00 p.m. also.

5.     There shall not be any public dealing up to 31.05.2021 except with the prior appointment of the concerned HOD that too for urgent issues only.

6.     With respect to Field Workers, the concerned Heads of the Department/Office may take a decision to stagger their timings/strength, if required, keeping in view the COVID-19 protocols.

Mayor launches month long special sanitation drives in all over city under Swachh Bharat Mission

Chandigarh, May 20:- Sh. Ravi Kant Sharma, Mayor, Chandigarh today launched month long special sanitation drive under Swachh Bharat Mission from Sector 22, Chandigarh. These type of joint drives will be conducted throughout city on daily bases till 19th June, 2021.

While sharing information, the Mayor said that this time the sanitation drives will be carried out jointly by the all wings of MCC including Sanitation department for cleaning the whole area, Horticulture department for pruning of trees and cutting grass from parks and road berms, Public Health department for cleaning road gullies and chambers etc. and B&R wing for removing accumulated malba from road berms and other open areas.

During the drive special emphasis will be given on cleaning parks, road berms, streets and backlanes of houses and back side of Market places all over city. He said that underpasses, main roads, repair of existing dustbins, painting of children play equipments and railing etc. will be done during the cleanliness drives. Special emphasis will also be given for the cleanliness of public toilets and community toilets throughout city, mentioned the Mayor.

The Mayor said that during the drives in all over the city garbage will be removed from different areas including horticulture waste, garbage mixed with malba removed, accumulated garbage/malba from open/vacant spaces, cleaning of road berms, repair & cleaning of road gullies and cleaning of parks, pruning of trees, removal of shrubs etc. in open areas.

During the cleanliness drive, workers and manpower from different wings of MCC such as Medical officer of Health, Roads Wing, Horticulture Wing and Public Health wing have cleaned sector 22. The Mayor also distributed gloves, masks and vitamin D3 to all the sanitation workers.

Sh. Shailender Singh, Chief Engineer, Dr. Amrit Pal Singh Warring, Medical Officer of Health, Sh. Krishan Pal Singh, SE, Horticulture, all concerned Executive Engineers and nodal officers, appointed to monitor the month long special sanitation drive throughout city were present on the occasion.
