Chandigarh, July 8: – The enforcement wing of Municipal Corporation Chandigarh today removed encroachments and illegal vendors stored different items on MCC land from sector 17 Market and outer areas of southern sectors.
Following the directions of Sh. K.K. Yadav, IAS, Municipal Commissioner, the enforcement team under the supervision of Sh. Rohit Gupta, Joint Commissioner, removed belongings of vendors who leave their sellable things on the sites around overbridge and central plaza area of sector 17 market. The drives were carried peacefully and no untoward incident took place.
In addition to that the enforcement teams lifted reharis of (Horse Carts) from southern sectors of Chandigarh and issued 25 challans to the violators.
The Joint Commissioner said that these type of drives will be carried out regularly as the vendors are authorized to do their business on the allotted sites and not to encroach upon Municipal land for storing the items including belongings to be used for routine vending.
University School of Open Learning, Panjab University, Chandigarh, today organized its sixth annual cultural event Hunar, a platform that gives students to explore their talents, included creative items and activities such as writings of poetry and essay, poster making, dance, singing, poetry recitation, photography and filmmaking. Keeping in view the pandemic norms of social distancing and self-isolation, the event was organized online. The students had emailed as many as two hundred entries through PDFs and videos.
The Chairperson, Prof Madhurima Verma, introduced the chief guests Prof S. K. Tomar, the Dean Students’ Welfare (Men) and Prof Meena Sharma, Dean Students’ Welfare (Women). Referring to the celebration of the Golden Jubilee year of USOL, Prof Verma highlighted the distinctive services rendered by the institution in the field of open learning and education.
In his address, Prof Tomar congratulated the organizers for the event in the difficult times of the Covid and extolled the efforts of the students. Invoking the landmark mythical character of Eklavya, a dalit, Prof Tomar called him the first distant learner as he mastered the skill of archery staying away from his teacher Dronacharya. He also called upon to institute a judicious balance between the three coordinates of education—the teacher, the taught and the study material.
Prof Meena Sharma appreciated the event and called it nothing less than a stress buster and confidence booster for the students as the preparation of and engagement with the creative-cultural items distanced them from the environment suffused negativity triggered by the covid. The judgment of each creative item was prepared by a team of three faculty members.
Eight teachers including Prof Neeru, Prof Harsh, Prof Praveen, Prof Sukhpreet, Dr Kuljeet, Dr Parveen, Dr Kamala and Dr Richa gave a comprehensive introduction to each creative item and presented the judgment by making a declaration of the first, second, third position and consolation prizes. As many as 40 students were declared as prize winners. The two prize winning students Mr Gopi and Ms Anand Priya shared their enriching experiences regarding the preparation of their respective items.
The coordinator of the event, Dr Ravinder Kaur Dhaliwal and co-coordinator Dr Reena Chaudhari, along with a dedicated team of faculty members, put strenuous efforts to organize the event.
Dr Sucha Singh provided the technical support to conduct the event. Mr Sudhir Baweja conducted the event eloquently and Dr Kamala Sandhu proposed a vote of thanks.

Chandigarh, July 5:- Sh. Ravi Kant Sharma, Mayor, Chandigarh today started a special cleanliness drive of N-choe running through various sectors of the city. The drive was formally started from sector 23 by cleaning of the choe including cutting of grass in the boundary area of choe and removing garbage along with plastic bags from the nullah.
The Mayor was accompanied by Sh. Shailender Singh, Chief Engineer, Sh. Krishan Pal Singh, SE, Horticulture, Sh. Arun Sood, councilor and Smt. Sunita Dhawan, area councilor, all concerned Executive Engineers and SDEs and representatives of resident welfare association.
During the drive, the horticulture division of MCC removed wild grass from the boundary areas besides pruning the trees along the footpath from adjoining parks. The sanitation department of MCC lifted the garbage from the choe besides the labour of B&R wing lifting malba from the both sides of choe.
The Mayor instructed all the MCC officials to clean the choe from the city part besides prepare a plan to clean all the water bodies including ponds in the villages throughout city.
A webinar on short story writers from Jammu and Kashmir was organized by the Department of Urdu, Panjab University, Chandigarh at the 8th online meeting of the Bazam-e-Adab here today.
Dr. Ali Abbas, Coordinator of the Department, highlighted the salient features of the Urdu literature produced by the region of Jammu and Kashmir. In her paper research scholar, Shamim talked about the social life as presented in the short stories of the region of Jammu & Kashmir.

The High Level Committee of experts under the Chairmanship of Prof. R.P. Tiwari, Chairman, Vice Chancellor, Central Univ. of Punjab, Bathinda, which was constituted by Hon’ble Vice President of IndiaSh M. Venkaiah NaiduandChancellor, Panjab University, Chandigarh, has submitted its final report. The Committee after detailed deliberations and after taking into account the views of the stakeholders, the recommendations of other Committees on governance reforms made hitherto and the governing structure of other prominent institutions in the country has firmed up its final recommendations. The highlights of the recommendations include: –
The governing bodies, i.e., Senate and Syndicate have been retained. The composition of proposed Senate is combination of ex-officio, elected and nominated members. The Committee recommended downsizing of these bodies for enhanced efficiency. The existing 93-member body of Senate has been proposed to be of 47 members. Similarly, the number of members of Syndicate has been recommended to be 13, as against the existing number of 18.
Prominence to the academicians from University as well as from the affiliated colleges in the governance of the University.
Place for eminent alumnus in the governance of Panjab University instead of Registered Graduates.
Changes in composition of Faculties have also been recommended that include; i) to do away with the bifurcation of Faculties as Major or Minor ii) presently PU regulation prescribes 11 Faculties, after rationalization, the Committee recommended 10 Faculties iii) in place of added/co-opted members, nominated members from amongst the academia have been recommended.
Present system of appointment of Deans of Faculties by election has been recommended to be replaced with appointment from amongst the senior Professors of the University on seniority basis by rotation.
In order to have better coordination between colleges and PU administration and also to facilitate the efficient service delivery of PU to students, re-alignment of territorial jurisdiction of PU is also recommended so that colleges situated in close proximity of PU (i.e. Mohali, Roopnagar, etc.) may be affiliated to it and colleges situated at distant places (as far as 200 to 250 kms) from PU be affiliated to other Universities of the State. In nutshell the overall governance structure has been proposed to remove complexities of the system and bring efficiency, keeping in view the contemporary needs of higher education system of the country.https://propertyliquid.com
