MCC floats RFP for Integrated Solid Waste Processing Plant

*Chandigarh, June 9*:- Aiming towards addressing the waste management problems of the city and to improve the living conditions of residents of Dadumajra and other adjoining areas, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh today floated the RFP for the selection of concessionaire for establishment of integrated waste processing plant of 550 TPD capacity along with operation and maintenance of existing 3 Garbage transfer stations (GTS) for 17 years (2 years for plant construction, 15 years for Operations and Maintenance.

While sharing this development, Sh. Anup Gupta, Mayor, Chandigarh today said that after getting nod from the General House, the MCC has finally floated the RFP. He said that the plant is to be constructed on design, finance, own, operate and transfer basis. The MCC will provide land and VGF(if required).

He said that the agency has to construct the plant within 2 years  at a 15 Acre site at Dadumajra. He added that 20 acres land has recently been reclaimed through Bio Remediation and shall be used for setting up the Plant.

The Mayor further said that this integrated Solid Waste Management Plant for processing dry waste and wet waste for an initial capacity of 550 TPD with an additional capacity of 25% TPD shall be set up. IIT, Ropar has drafted the DPR&RFP on the technology as recommended by the (NEERI). The High Power Technical Committee approved the RFP vetted by NEERI. The General House has also approved the project.

He further added that as per technology recommended by NEERI and accepted by the High Powered Technical Committee, the wet waste is to be be processed and Bio CNG is to be produced. The dry waste shall be processed and RDF produced which shall be supplied to cement plants as fuel. 

Sh Anup Gupta further stated that the plant shall be a State of Art Plant and shall be compliant with the most stringent norms of Pollution Control Board and other regulatory authorities.

After the establishment of the new processing plant, 100 % waste shall be processed. This will resolve the age old issue of dumping  of waste at the dumping ground at Daddumajra. This shall definitely improve the living conditions of residents living in neighbouring areas, said the Mayor.
