Panchkula, May 23- In a significant step towards enhancing cancer prevention and screenings services, Haryana Vidhan Sabha Speaker, Sh Gian Chand Gupta flagged off three Mobile Cancer Prevention Units at PWD Rest House, Sector-1 here today.

This initiative by Foundation for Community Development and Health Care in India is aimed at bringing healthcare services particularly cancer prevention services closer to the people residing in villages of the district.

While appreciating the Foundation for Community Development and Health Care in India for taking such a unique step, Sh Gupta said that these Mobile Cancer Prevention Units would cover villages and slum areas of the district and make people aware about cancer prevention. Apart from this, screening of people would also be done to detect cancer at the early stage.

Sh Gupta called upon the people not to hide this disease but get timely treatment as cancer is curable if detected at initial stage. He said that due to lack of information, people reach the third or fourth stage of cancer where the treatment of this disease is not possible. Therefore, people should be made aware about cancer prevention and screening so that disease could be treated in time and precious lives of people could be saved.

He said that today lakhs of people in the country are suffering from the serious disease of cancer and the Foundation for Community Development and Health Care in India is doing a commendable job by spreading awareness among the people about cancer prevention. He asked the foundation representatives to work in coordination with the District Administration and Health Department to successfully implement this campaign in district Panchkula.

Chairman, Foundation for Community Development and Health Care in India, Dr. Harvinder Singh Bakshi, said that the main objective of this initiative is to make people aware about cancer prevention in the villages of Tricity- Panchkula, Chandigarh and Mohali. Early detection is crucial in increasing survival rates and reducing the burden of this disease on our society.  He said that by taking cancer prevention and screening services to the doorstep of our citizens, we are making a significant stride towards a healthy India.

He said that  these Mobile Cancer Prevention Units having facility of doctors, nurses and counselors would not only make people aware about cancer prevention, but also provide free of cost palliative care to third and fourth stage cancer patients. Also, medical camps would be organized in villages with the help of concerned Sarpanches for screening of people.

Councilor Harendra Malik, Former Chairman of Market Committee Ashok Sharma, Chairman, Foundation for Community Development and Health Care in India Dr. Harvinder Singh Bakshi, Project Head Ganesh Bhatt, North Zone Regional Head Shiv Pal Singh Rana, Dr. Praveen Kumar Sood and other office bearers of the organization were also present on this occasion.
