Panchkula, July 20 – Deputy Commissioner Dr. Priyanka Soni today chaired a meeting of the District Road Safety Committee, where various issues related to road safety and traffic management were discussed.


During the meeting, specific actions were decided upon to improve road and traffic safety in the district. Besides, the meeting also witnessed in-depth discussions and fruitful deliberations on various other road safety-related matters.
Present at the meeting were Secretary Regional Transport Authority Hairatjeet Kaur, DCP Traffic Nikita Khattar, SDM Panchkula Mamta Sharma, SDM Kalka Ruchi Singh Bedi, ACP Headquarter Surinder Singh, and officers from NHAI and district administration.


  Reviewing the action taken on previous decisions, Dr. Soni highlighted that the current timing of traffic signals is not adequately synchronized with the actual traffic flow at some locations, leading to potential congestion and inefficiencies in traffic movement. To rectify this concern and facilitate a more seamless traffic flow throughout the district, she directed the relevant authorities to take necessary measures in this direction.


  With regard to the traffic congestion issue on Amartex Chowk, she directed that Haryana Shahari Vikas Pradhikaran officials to provide permission for the construction of a slip road near Chowk, and the Municipal Corporation will initiate the process for its construction. This slip road aims to alleviate congestion and enhance safety at the mentioned location.
  Emphasizing the installation of blinkers at the T-point between Sector-1 and 2 from the Mini Secretariat side, she said that this particular location is sensitive and requires the installation of blinkers to prevent any unfortunate incident.
  Dr. Priyanka Soni also suggested organizing lecture/training sessions for officials of Engineering Departments, Police, and others to adept them on road safety measures.


  To improve the response time in emergencies, especially on National Highways, the Health Department was directed to enhance the response time of ambulances in case of accidents. In addition, she also directed that all road-owning agencies must install speed limit signboards on their respective roads.


  Regarding the issue of stray cattle, the Deputy Commissioner informed that Speaker, Haryana Vidhan Sabha Sh. Gian Chand Gupta is very serious about this issue and already addressing this matter under the 7 Sarokaar programme. She expressed confidence that the issue will be resolved promptly.


  In the meeting, the enforcement efforts made by the police department for road and traffic safety, overloading challans, wrong side driving challans, and other relevant matters were also reviewed.
