Mahatma Gandhi Peace Club of Institute of Educational Technology and Vocational Education, Panjab University today celebrated International Day of Peace on the Theme: “Climate Action for Peace”. Celebrations started with tree plantation in the institute with a aim to cherish what the environment provides us would be the exact way for us to live peacefully and in harmony with our precious environment . Each student adopted one plant to make this world a greener place, to help in nurturing it to life and being responsible for its growth. Students recited poems, gave speeches, presentations and presented skits highlighting the different aspects of climate changes occurring across the World.
Dr. Kanwalpreet Kaur, Chairperson, IETVE appreciated the efforts of the students and said “a peaceful society is one where there is harmony between the different institutions and equal opportunities for everyone. Peace will enable a sustainable environment to take shape and a sustainable environment will help promote peace”.

A Blood Donation Camp was organised by the Panjab University Teachers’ Association (PUTA) and Students Central Association (Evening Studies) at Department of Evening Studies, Panjab University, Chandigarh, which evoked a very enthusiastic response from the donors.
The prominent donors included Dr. Neeraj Aggarwal, University Institute Of Hotel And Tourism Management and member of PUTA Executive. Approximately 150 persons donated blood. Students showed a lot of enthusiasm in the event. 151 units of Blood was collected during the camp.
Professor R.K. Singla, Dean Research was the Chief Guest on the occassin to bless the donors. Professor Rajesh Gill, President PUTA encouraged the students and appreciated the excellent work done by SCA-DES President Harkirat Singh and Secretary Balraj Singh. Professor Gurpal Singh, Chairperson, DES-MDRC thanked the donors who came forward to contribute to the noble cause.

Panjab University Alumni Association (PUAA), in collaboration with Social Substance organized a counseling workshop in Sarojini Hall (Girls Hostel 3), Panjab University, Chandigarh. The main motive of this counseling session was to extend relations with existing and future alumni and equip students with necessary knowledge to resolve their mental health issues like abuse, addictions, anger management, depression, Bereavement and loss and low self confidence.
Ms. Neelam Dhamija, Ms. Kamal Malhi and Ms. Kavita Sharma chaired this workshop and had an interactive session with residents. They taught the students how they can extract best from a challenging situation. Ms. Kavita Sharma acquainted residents with harmful effects of overuse of gadgets and how to get rid of screen addictions. Ms. Kamal Mahi told the students that overuse of phone or internet alert the reptilian brain in human body and we must calm it through meditation and practice. She taught the residents how to do meditation and exercise to detox mind and feel happy. She explained that the root cause of anxiety these days is fear which is totally a trans state and not permanent. We should love and comfort ourselves just like we expect somebody else to comfort us. Ms. Neelam Dhamija addressed the questions asked anonymously by residents and guided them how they can excel in academics and built self confidence.The workshop was concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Ravneet Kaur, Warden, Girls Hostel 3.

Eight students namely Nitin Garg, Gurpreet Singh, Ripanpreet Kaur, Alka Kataria, Mamta Tyagi, Parul Sharma, Pratishtha Sharma, Saloni Chawla of Centre for Medical Physics, Panjab University, Chandigarh have came out with flying colors in passing the Radiation Safety Officer-III examination conducted by Radiological Physics & Advisory Division, Bhabha Atomic Research Centre(BARC), Mumbai in September, 2019. These students are now placed in various hospitals of India.
Each year the cancer treatment facilities and the sophistication of the radiotherapy equipment are increasing enormously. When it comes to talent, one often need not look beyond Panjab University. Medical physicists contribute to the effectiveness of radiological imaging procedures by assuring that best radiation safety practices are followed. They collaborate with radiation oncologists to design and execute cancer patient specific treatment plans.

The Department of Laws, Panjab University, Chandigarh organised its Annual Demonstration Moot. The proposition of the Demo Moot was based on the Constitution of India. Hon’ble Mr. Justice Amit Rawal and Hon’ble Mr. Justice Arun Kumar Tyagi, sitting judges of the Hon’ble High Court of Panjab and Haryana. The event was held under the guidance of the Prof. Meenu Paul, Chairperson, Department of Laws, Panjab University, who further extended a warm welcome to the judges. The proceedings which continued for one hour, was followed by Questions and Answers session. The Hon’ble Bench elaborated upon the art of advocacy and suggested points of focus for every aspiring advocate and judge. Dr. Vandana A. Kumar, Coordinator, Moot and Debating Society, encouraged student participation in the activity.

The Centre for Human Rights and Duties, Panjab University, Chandigarh organized a Sports Meet, here today on the theme ‘Sankalp Samaavesh Ka’ (A Pledge for Inclusion).
Prof. Raj Kumar, Vice Chancellor, Panjab University encouraged the students with special needs. He said that God gives special talent to such children. It is upon the parents to identify that talent. Laying emphasis on the responsibility of the society towards children with special needs, he said that the society should provide opportunities to such children so that they may become a part of the society. He also assured the parents that University would render all the help for all such events organized in future as well.
Dr Namita Gupta, Chairperson of the Centre stated that the purpose of the event was to motivate differently abled children to be part of the mainstream society and to sensitize the students of the university towards the needs of the differently-abled children.
Around 200 students including differently abled children from various schools and NGOs such as Ashadeep, Discover Ability and GRIID participated in the event. Various games such as 4×50 metre relay, three leg race, sack race, 50 meter race, 100 metre race and spoon lemon race were played by differently abled children along with the student volunteers of the Centre for Human Rights. The names of children with Intellectual disabilities who won in various games were: Lakhvir, Omprakash, Bulbul and Jyoti in spoon and lemon race; Vickey and Akshay in 50 meters race; Bhawana, Anmol, Manpreet, Raman in 3 leg race; Abhishek Kohli, Tanveer, Tushar, Nitin, Jatin, Harman and Tejinder in Men relay race; Anshika, Ranju, Hemant, Ananya, Kalpana and Purva in Women relay race.
Other guests that encouraged the students with their presence were Dr. Parminder Singh, Director Sports; Dr. Rakesh Malik, Deputy Director, Sports; Dr. Neeru Malik, PU Fellow and Assistant Professor, Dev Samaj College, Sector 26, Chandigarh; Prof Rakesh Mohindra, Deptt of Laws; Dr Parveen Goyal, UIET; Ms. Sheetal Negi, Coach, Special Olympic (GRIID); Mr. Harmanjeet Gill, Coach, Special Olympic, (Discover Ability, Mohali) and Jagwinder Singh, well known Para Cyclist.
Mr Vikram Nayyar, Finance and Development Officer and officiating Registrar, Panjab University, Prof. Emanual Nahar, Dean Student Welfare (DSW) and Prof Neena Kaplash, DSW (W) awarded the winners with medals and certificates.
The event was a success with the participation of student volunteers from Centre for Human Rights and Duties, other departments of Panjab University, and volunteers of Dev Samaj College, Sector 26, Chandigarh. The event was sponsored by Marbella Grand, Kreative Chocolatier and Nutelite.

The enforcement team of MCC carried out drives in different parts of city and removed unregistered vendors including rehri pharis and food carts, cloth and shoe sellers etc. and challaned 72 violators. The team seized their articles and items, which were sent to the enforcement store.

Chandigarh, September 17: – The Municipal Corporation Chandigarh is going to organize Kirtan Samagams to commemorate 550th Birth Anniversary of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji from October 2019.
This was decided in a meeting of the implementation committee constituted for planning the activities of 550th birth anniversary of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji, held here today under the chairmanship of Sh. Hardeep Singh, Senior Deputy Mayor and attended by other members of the committee namely Sh. Mahesh Inder Singh, Maj. Gen. M.S. Kandal, Smt. Ravinder Kaur Gujral and other concerned officers of MCC.
The committee discussed and decided that as a part of celebration of 550th birth anniversary of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji, MCC will organize Kirtan Smagams throughout the city in four zones i.e. Khudda Ali Sher, Manimajra, Sector 51 and Sector 41, Chandigarh. The members also decided that a big programme will be organize at Sector 34 by involving all Gurudwara committees of the city.
The committee members discussed and decided that a light & sound show on the life of Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji will be organize in Leisure Valley during mid of October. The committee decided that commutative items like wall frames of Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji, Thought of the day table calendars, mementoes will be manufactured for distribution in different events.

Chandigarh, September 17:- The weekly ward level meeting of Municipal Corporation Chandigarh was held under the chairmanship of Sh. Rajesh Kumar, Mayor of Chandigarh which was attended by councilors namely Smt. Heera Negi, Smt. Ravinder Kaur Gujral, Smt. Aasha Kumari Jaswal, Sh. Devender Singh Babla and Sh. Dalip Sharma of Ward No. 13, 15, 17, 18 and 19 respectively.
During the meeting, Sh. Manoj Kumar Bansal, Chief Engineer, Superintending Engineers, Executive Engineers and other concerned officers were present. During the meeting different following issues of ward wise discussed in detail:
Ward-13
· Provision of Sound proofing of Hall and repair of gym in the Community Centre sector 49.
· Leftout development works of Green belt in sector 49 C&D.
· Jogging track near advocate society, sector 49 be checked and repaired as per requirement.
· Temporary passage in sector 63 be closed by proper fencing.
· Repair work of V-5 road in sector 49 with patch work etc.
· Provision of toilet block in green belt, sector 49.
· Special anti encroachment drives to check unregistered street venders in sector 49.
· Grass cutting of parks and road berms be ensured in all the areas of ward 13.
Ward-15
· Sewerage blockages be checked and cleared in sector 35 C&D.
· Sewerage problem be checked in Market, Sector 34.
· Renovation of community centre sector 35.
· Provision of TT water supply line in sector 35.
· High mast light be provided in the required area of Parks in sector 35.
· Proper sanitation be maintained in and around parks and market areas in sector 35.
· Illegal Encroachments be removed from market areas.
Ward-17
· PCC tile work be completed in leftout area at park in sector 21.
· Backlanes of houses in sector 21 be cleaned and special drive be initiated to lift C&D waste from the backlanes.
· Sound proofing of hall in community centre, sector 18.
· Proper upkeep of neighbourhood parks in sector 18 & 19.
· Toilet blocks in markets, especially in sector 19 be maintained properly.
· Toilet block be provided in sector 18 near post office.
· Water connection be made functional in SSKs in sector 18 & 19.
· Dark spots in the ward No. 17 be checked and status report be put up.
· Sewerage blockage problem in cheap houses at sector 19 be checked and resolved at the earliest.
Ward-18
· Early removal of C&D waste lying in the back lanes of sector 28.
· High mast light be provided in the required area of Parks.
· Illegal Encroachments be removed from market areas of sector 27 & 28.
· Repair work required at backlane in sector 27.
· Road side of V-6 road in sector 27 be repaired.
Ward-19
· Repair work of roads in the ward be taken up.
· Sewerage lines be cleaned properly and provision of road gullies.
· Encroachments be removed from the ward.
· C&D waste at open spaces be lifted immediately.
· Water supply pressure be raised in the colonies.
· Toilet block be repaired near the market places.
