Mayor creates awareness about swachhata at ward No.3

Chandigarh, June 2:- Sh. Ravi Kant Sharma, Mayor, Chandigarh today flagged off a special sanitation under Swachh Bharat Mission at ward No.3, Chandigarh. Smt. Sunita Dhawan, area councilor and all concerned staff of Engineering wing, Sanitation wing and manpower took part in this drive.

During the drive special emphasis has been given to clean road berms, specially the horticulture waste lying after the recent storm. The Mayor instructed the concerned officers of Horticulture and sanitation wings to clean the road berms and other open areas.

The Mayor also instructed the public health officials to clean road gullies properly to avoid any kind of water logging in the area near Bal Bhawan, sector 23. The Mayor instructed the B&R officials to remove the malba from the road berms and asked them to challan the violators, who dumped malba infront of house No. 1293, Sector 23 after its renovation.

The Mayor also distributed pamphlets to the residents of area creating awareness about precautions about COVID-19 and upkeep of sanitation in their houses/surroundings besides making compost from their kitchen waste to use for gardening.

BBMB ORGANISES BLOOD DONATION CAMP

Chandigarh: Today i.e. on 02.06.2021 Bhakra Beas Management organized a Blood
Donation Camp on special request of Department of Transfusion Medicine, P.G.I.,
Chandigarh at BBMB Rest House, Sector 35-B, Chandigarh. Presently, blood banks in
India are facing acute shortage of blood due to grave situation of COVID-19 pandemic
and Hospitals are in urgent need of Blood, Plasma & Platelets to treat critically ill
patients & for surgery etc.


The camp was inaugurated by Er. Harminder Singh Chugh, Member/Power. All
COVID-19 protocols were followed during the camp.

of BBMB for their courage to donate blood during the grave situation of COVID-19

Webinar on World Environment Day at PU

The office of Dean International Students in collaboration with Department of Sociology, Panjab University  and support from Department of History and Department of Environmental Studies, organized a national webinar on “India’s Response to Global Call, Paris Agreement UN SDG-13 and COP -26 to celebrate World Environment Day, by Dr Srikanta K.Panigrahi ,Director General ,Indian Institute of Sustainable  Development(IISD), New Delhi.

The webinar was initiated by Prof Anju Suri, Dean International Students who highlighted the significance of environment and its protection especially during covid times as this is a crisis period which may have purified the air and improved environment due to presence of  lockdowns but she showed her concern about the worsening of environmental situation once the lockdowns are no more.

Prof Rani Mehta, Chairperson, Department of Sociology  introduced the dignitaries, emphasized on the uniqueness of planet Earth which provides life to several micro organisms, plants and animals including Human beings. She also raised the issue of vulnerability of ecosystems to environmental damage through the modernization processes of industrislization, urbanization, technological advancements etc.

Prof Raj Kumar, Vice Chancellor, PU in his inaugural address mentioned in a very practical and pragmatic way the importance of protecting the environment and highlighted the role which each individual can play in bringing about sustainability by following simple easy steps such as planting trees, removing garbage, switching off lights when not in use and his goal oriented approach also focused on the need to move from individual to community level for saving the environment. He wonderfully articulated the significance of a cleaner and greener campus for better work environment.

Dr Srikanta Panigrahi gave a very comprehensive and detailed analysis of the reasons for climate change which happens through the emission of greenhouse gases released from vehicles and industries  and is seen in the form of global warming as well as rising temperatures which cause floods, storms, decrease in food production and extinction of flora and fauna species. He also threw light on India’s role in combating climate change by discussing about the mission approach in India which gives more importance to carbon management, enhanced energy efficiency, sustainable agriculture etc. He also described about India’s INDC (Intended Nationally Determined Contributions ) to healthy and sustainable way of living based on traditions and values of conservation and moderation. According to him, the problem of developed countries is over consumerism and for developing countries it is lack of cost effective technology. Thus, there is a need to have collective efforts and two important aspects – togetherness and innovation  for achieving sustainable development.

The talk was followed by a vibrant question answer session conducted by Dr Suman Mor, Chairperson ,Department of Environmental Studies . The Vote of thanks was presented by Dr Priyatosh Sharma, Chairperson, Department of History. The webinar was well attended by participants from the region.

स्वास्थ्य विभाग द्वारा जिला के 15 से अधिक सामुदायिक स्वास्थ्य केन्द्रों एवं अस्पतालों में कोरोना वेक्सिनेशन कैम्प आयोजित किए जा रहे है।

पंचकूला 1 जून- स्वास्थ्य विभाग द्वारा जिला के 15 से अधिक सामुदायिक स्वास्थ्य केन्द्रों एवं अस्पतालों में कोरोना वेक्सिनेशन कैम्प आयोजित किए जा रहे है। इनमें नागरिकों का उनके घरों के नजदीक ही नियमित रूप से टीकाकरण किया जा रहा है।

उपायुक्त मुकेश कुमार आहूजा ने बताया कि हर टीकाकरण केन्द्र का चिकित्सक को इंचार्ज लगाया गया है ताकि उस केन्द्र पर टीकाकरण सही ढगं से किया जा सके। उन्होंने बताया कि पोलिक्लीनिक सैक्टर 26, गर्वमेंट डिस्पेंसरी सैक्टर 21, सैक्टर 12ए, सैक्टर 7 में टीकाकारण नियमित रूप से किया जा रहा है। इसी प्रकार उप स्वास्थ्य केन्द्र कालका, सामुदायिक स्वास्थ्य केन्द्र रायपुररानी, प्राथमिक स्वास्थ्य केन्द्र सुरजपुर, मोरनी, नानकपुर, पिंजौर, बरवाला, हंगोला, केाट, पुराना पंचकूला गेट न0 3 तथा कमाण्ड होस्पीटल में भी टीकाकरण किया जा रहा है। उन्हांेने बताया कि इन केन्द्रों पर 18 वर्ष से ऊपर की सभी आयु के लोगों को पहली एवं दूसरी खुराक लगाई जा रही है।

उपायुक्त बताया कि प्रत्येक केन्द्र पर 45 साल से ऊपर की आयु एवं दिव्यांग व्यक्तियों के लिए विशेष टीकाकरण सत्र चलाया जाता है। उन्होंने नागरिकों से अनुरोध किया कि वे विभाग द्वारा बनाए गए नियमित केन्द्रों पर टीकाकरण अवश्य करवाएं। टीकाकरण करवाने से व्यक्ति स्वस्थ रहता है।

उपायुक्त एवं अध्यक्ष जिला बाल कल्याण परिषद मुकेश कुमार आहूजा ने इस संबंध में जानकारी देेते हुए बताया कि जिला के बच्चें घर बैठे आॅनलाईन वेब साईटhttp://balbhawanpanchkula.com पर पंजीकरण करके नृत्य की शिक्षा प्राप्त कर सकते हैं। उन्होंने बताया कि इस वेबसाईट पर नृत्य की शिक्षा लेने वाले बच्चे अपना पंजीकरण तुरंत प्रभाव से करें और इस प्रशिक्षण का लाभ उठाएं। उन्होंने बताया कि नृत्य का प्रशिक्षण 16 राज्यों से स्र्वण पदक व 2009 में राष्ट्रीय बाल श्री अवार्ड विजेता प्रसिद्ध राहुल गुप्ता द्वारा दिया जाएगा।

PU Extends Measures to Curb Corona till 9th June

The Committee constituted for  reviewing the status of COVID-19 cases in Panjab University,  met today and on the basis of recommendations, the competent authority has approved following measures to contain the spread of ongoing Corona pandemic, to be observed by all the offices of the Panjab University from 01.06.2021 to 09.06.2021.: – 

1.    The Office timings of the University shall be observed from 9.00 a.m. to 2.00 p.m. up to 09.06.2021 with 50% staff strength. However, the Controlling Officers/Heads of the Branches/Departments may call the staff beyond 2.00 p.m., depending upon the exigency of the work, by staggering the timings, while ensuring that the attendance of staff at any time should not exceed the stipulated limit of 50% of strength.  Officers of the level of Office Superintendent and above shall attend the office on daily basis.

2.    The remaining non-attending 50% staff shall work from home under the instructions of their Controlling Officers and they shall remain available through e-modes, i.e., telephone, e-mail, video conference, etc.

3.    No staff shall leave the station without the prior sanction of the Controlling Officer.

4.    There shall not be any public dealing up to 09.06.2021 except with the prior appointment of the concerned HOD that too for urgent issues only.

5.    With respect to Field Workers, the concerned Heads of the Department/Office may take a decision to stagger their timings/strength, if required, keeping in view the COVID-19 protocols.

Session on the ‘Significance of E resources in Research’ by PU

An online session on the ‘significance of E resources in Research’ was organized by the Department of Political Science which was open for the researchers of Panjab University departments. Dr Neeraj K Singh, Deputy Librarian of the AC Joshi Library, Panjab University as the resource person made a presentation enabling the researchers, many of them in their hometowns due to Covid situation, to have an introduction to the facilities available in the university library . He made them aware of the library automation and RFID system developed by the university library.

 More importantly, he also gave them hands-on instruction as to how to avail these very useful e-resources available through the university which Panjab university has got access to by paying huge user fees. These include the UGC-CARE journals including the international Journals published by SAGE, Cambridge University Press, among others.  He referred to the significance of online database in getting access to the research materials available on the Panjab University platforms.

Besides, Neeraj Singh gave the researchers a live demonstration of several login platforms logging which they can have open access to the thousands of research articles and reference books without paying any user charges on their own.

Biogas Plant at BH 3 Inaugurated

Chandigarh May 31, 2021

A Biogas Plant was today inaugurated by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Raj Kumar at Boys’ Hostel No. 3, Panjab University, Chandigarh.

It was built at the cost of around 30 lakhs by a company accredited with BARC, Mumbai. Prof. SK Tomar, Prof. Sukhbir Kaur, Deans Student Welfare, Prof. Manu Sharma, UIET, Prof. Ganga Ram, Director CIL and Warden of the hostel Dr. JS Sehrawat graced the occasion which was held by following proper COVID-19 protocol.

 This biogas plant has a capacity to process about one ton of food-waste and other biological materials for generation of biogas through the process of bimethenation. The food-waste for this plant is to be arranged by Horticulture Department, Panjab University, Chandigarh, mainly collected as food-waste from different hostels of PU itself. The plant will be run by the firm for next few years which will cater to the gas requirements of Mess and Canteen of Boys’ Hostel No. 3, Panjab University, Chandigarh.

 Prof. Raj Kumar congratulated the team for generating such ideas of innovative work for generation of green energy which is the need of hour these days. He stressed that such projects should be extended soon to meet the energy requirements of other university hostels too. Prof. Raj Kumar interacted with the experts, XEN office engineers, the Dean Student Welfare and warden BH-3 to explore the possibilities of utilizing solar energy too in the university. The worthy Vice-Chancellor ignited the gas stove, run on the gas generated from the Biogas plant itself from the food waste arranged by the firm from different hotels of Chandigarh and through repeated requests to the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh by the Warden Dr. JS Sehrawat.

सिविल सर्जन ने बताया कि लक्ष्ण दिखने पर तुरंत चिकित्सा सहायता लें और अपने डॉक्टर के पास या अस्पताल में जाने से पहले हमेशा फोन करके जाएं। जो लोग स्वस्थ्य हैं और उन्हें वायरस के थोड़े-बहुत लक्षण दिखाई दे रहे हैं तो वे घर ही अपने आप को आइसोलेट कर लें और सावधानियां बरतें। वायरस से संक्रमित होने के बाद इसके लक्षण दिखाई देने में आम तौर पर 5 से 6 दिन लगते हैं। हालांकि कुछ मामलों में लक्षण दिखने में 14 दिन भी लग सकते हैं। इसलिए नागरिकों को कोविड-19 की गाईड लाईन का पालन करते हुए सोशल डिस्टेंसिंग बनाए रखना है और मास्क का प्रयोग करना है। इसके अलावा साबुन से अपने हाथ बार-बार अवश्य धोएं।
