Dr. Harvansh Singh Judge Institute of Dental Sciences & Hospital, Panjab University, Chandigarh is organizing White Coat Ceremony and Induction Programme to welcome B.D.S. first year students and help them to establish a psychological contract for the practice of dentistry, informed Dr. Jagat Bhushan, Principal-cum-Professor. The event is designed around new students for providing information about program and student services. This will also help students to know faculty members, administrative staff and will enhance college experience.
He further added that the White Coat Ceremony is a “rite of passage” for dental college students that encourage professionalism and empathy. The event emphasizes the importance of the foundational mission of the institution: education, research, patient care and service. The white coat is a symbolic, non-verbal communication used to express and reaffirm a fundamental belief in a system that society observes.
Shri VP Singh Badnore, Governor of Punjab & Administrator, U.T.; Prof. VK Paul, Member, NITI Ayog; and Prof. Raj Kumar, Vice Chancellor, Panjab University, Chandigarh will be gracing the occasion.
The students will then be presented, “cloaked,” with their first white coats symbolizing the mantle of their chosen profession. Students will swear a professional oath before the assembled group, publicly acknowledging their new responsibilities and their willingness to assume the obligations of their new profession.
