Ten Thousand Students appear in Indian Engineering Services (IES) Exam by UPSC
Engineering Services Exam (Prelims stage) was held for the coveted posts of Indian Engineering Services (IES) conducted by Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). IES officer is a Class – I Central Government officer equivalent in rank to an IAS officer. Engineering Services Examination is a 3 stage exam viz. Prelims, Mains and Interview.
More than 10000 students of Civil, Mechanical, Electrical and Electronics Engineering appeared from Chandigarh across 25 centers in the tricity.
Prelims stage had 2 papers.
Paper I of 2 hours duration was General Studies and Engineering Aptitude of 200 marks having 100 questions, was common for all the students. Paper II of 3 hours duration was engineering specific objective paper of 300 marks having 150 questions.
Compete India Zone Director Akshaye Raj Aggarwal said,”The expected cutoff to qualify for MAINS is 220 marks out of 500 (for general category), as the paper was a bit lengthier compared to the last year.”
Out of total 500 marks, students will be shortlisted for MAINS stage to be held in May 2020.
CIZ Director Akshaye Raj Aggarwal said,”Paper I will be the deciding factor. Students who secure more than 110 marks in this exam out of 200 have bright chances for good rank. Students who think that they will qualify for mains should start their preparation immediately, as it requires practice of answer writing and derivations of formula.”
