This is for the information of public in general and students in particular that the guidelines / instructions for the students appearing in the Online Examinations commencing w.e.f. 15.01.2021 for Re-appear – Professional Courses, Deficient Subjects, Environment Education and students of intermediate semesters whose result is cancelled, have been released and uploaded on the University website, informed Prof Jagat Bhushan, Controller of Examinations, Panjab University.

Online Book Launch organized by PU ALUMNI ASSOCIATION

Prof. V K Sinha, Dean Research, Panjab University, launched an online book  on “Basic Computational Techniques for Data Analysis”  organized by Panjab University Alumni Association today.

 This book has been jointly published by D. Narayana, Former Director, Gulati Institute of Finance and Taxation, Thiruvananthapuram, Sharad Ranjan Associate Professor of

Economics at Zakir Husain Delhi College (Evening), University of Delhi and Ms Nupur Tyagi Assistant Professor at Gargi College, University of Delhi. Dr. Sharad Ranjan is an alumni of Economics Department, Panjab University, Chandigarh, 1991 batch.

Prof. Sinha congratulated the authors and outlined the importance of data analysis in all the fields including science, management and arts.

 Prof. Anupama Sharma, Dean Alumni Relations, Panjab University welcomed the authors and the Chief Guest and expressed her gratitude to the authors to consider PUAA as a launching platform for the book.

All the three authors of the book extensively interacted with the audience and gave information about the contents of the book. It was highlighted that the book has been designed to enable students of economics, commerce, management and social sciences in general to acquire knowledge and develop skills in statistical techniques and financial analysis using MS Excel. It seeks to prepare students with an understanding of basic statistical and financial concepts of practical use.

Online Portal for Transcripts Inaugurated by PU VC

Chandigarh January 4, 2021

The online portal i.e. transcript.puchd.ac.in for verification of academic qualifications/transcripts was inaugurated today by Prof. Raj Kumar, Vice-Chancellor, Panjab University. PU VC lauded the efforts put in by the examination branch especially Mrs. Nishi Goyal, System Manager, Computer Unit who played an instrumental role in development of this portal.

Prof. Jagat Bhushan, Controller of Examinations highlighted the salient features of this online portal and appreciated the hard work put up by the staff members of his branch in development of this software which has been developed totally in-house.  Prof. Jagat Bhushan, COE highlighted the advantages of this online portal which are as under:-

·         Candidate can fill Online application form and upload  documents which he/she wants to verify through this portal easily from anywhere in the world.

·         Candidate can pay fee online through debit card, credit card, online banking, UPI etc.

·         Allow full Interaction between candidate and Certificate Section with proper record.

·         Candidate will get SMS, Email about the status of his/her application instantly when updated by certificate section so candidate need not to contact PU again and again for knowing the status of his/her application

·         Smoothen and speed up the Work of Certificate section

·         Complete Record of each activity and will Increase Transparency

·         Replace the current manual system

·         Complete processing of application form through this portal.

·         Candidate can upload his pending documents after submitting the form also if there is any discrepancy in the form which will be informed to the candidate by certificate section through SMS and Email.

·         Various reports are generated through this portal which will save the processing time of the certificate section.

He further informed that the pendency level of transcript verification, which was very high in the Certificate Section and has been a nagging problem, would hopefully be resolved very soon. This section will be able to provide these services to the general public with a minimum waiting period. This online portal would bring in efficiency as well as transparency in the system.

First woman from the PU selected for INYAS membership

Dr. Nishima Wangoo from the Department of Applied Sciences, UIET, Panjab University has been selected as a member of the Indian National Young Academy of Sciences (INYAS) for a period of five years. Notably, she is the first woman from the university to be selected for this prestigious membership based on her scientific achievements in the field of chemistry and its dissemination to the society. INYAS is the only recognised academy of young scientists in India which was established in 2014.

Ltd., Mumbai, today.

Professor Indu Pal Kaur, Chairperson & Head Placement Cell UIPS, extended a warm welcome to everyone and introduced the speaker, Dr Bobby George who is a proud alumnus of UIPS, Panjab University with an industrial experience of more than 23 years. He worked in Dabur Research Foundation, Sahibabad (5 years) in clinical research division for oncology drugs.

Dr George highlighted about the fundamental mission of the FDA, which is to protect the public health, by collecting information which is then used for important activities such as post-market surveillance, inspection of drug manufacturing and processing facilities, and monitoring of drug products imported into the U.S. He then touched upon few of the administrative requirements associated with generic drug filing including establishment registration; drug listing; NDC number, DUNS number, user fees; self-

identification; their submission timelines and implications for non-compliance.

He stressed upon the critical need of comprehensive, accurate, and up-to-date information required in conducting these activities with efficiency and effectiveness.

 The talk was followed by an extensive Q&A session and was concluded successfully with a note of thanks by the Chairperson, Professor Indu Pal Kaur. Around 210 participants joined the webinar which included students, researchers, UIPS faculty and distinguished guests.

New Director Takes Charge of Centre for IAS, PU

Induction Lecture on “How to Access A.C. Joshi Library, P.U.”

The office of  The Dean, International Students on behalf of Professor Anju Suri, the Dean organized an Induction Lecture on “How to Access A.C. Joshi Library, P.U.” delivered by Dr. Jivesh Bansal, Chief Librarian, Panjab University, Chandigarh.

The Lecture was especially organized in view of the concern of International Students seeking guidance in the matter as they had been facing serious difficulties with regard to the access of e-resources available in the prestigious International A.C. Joshi Library, Panjab University, which is rich repository housing a wide range of books and literature including rare books, periodicals and manuscripts

Dr. Jivesh Bansal  shared information about the ancient rich history of the Library, library structure and services as well as the Library timings including the timing and working of the digital library section.  He delved on accessing Library sources through simple search and advanced search and apprised the audience as to how they may be accessed.  He also underlined the facts about JAWS software and Zoom extra facility provided in the Library for visually impaired and disabled students and scholars, book drop facility available 24×7, My Info facility for self check out of the scholars, search catalogue record facility etc.  The session was highly informative and interactive.  The lecture was followed by questions and queries of the participants which were answered by the speaker.

The session facilitated the participants in addressing their concerns and clearing their doubts about the access of the Library. Along with International Students, the National Students and Scholars also joined the session for the said purpose in large numbers taking its total to 460 participants.

PU Professor admitted as Fellow of Royal Society of Chemistry

Dr. Sushil Kumar Kansal, Professor at Dr. SS Bhatnagar University Institute of Chemical Engg. & Tech., Panjab University, Chandigarh, has been admitted as Fellow of Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC),a learned society(professional association) in the United Kingdom with the goal of “advancing the Chemical Sciences”. Recently, he has also been awarded with Fellow of Institution of Engineers (FEI), India.

14 day workshop on Yoga Concludes at PU

A 14 day workshop organised by the Centre for Swami Vivekananda Studies Panjab University Chandigarh concluded today. Prof.V.R.Sinha ,Dean research Panjab University, in his address, highlighted the benefits of yoga for both physical and mental health. He appreciated the efforts of the Centre for organizing a very important and successful workshop. Practicing yogic exercises help the vital organs of the body and improves our health he concluded. 

Prof. Renu Thakur Coordinator ICSVS presented the report of the 14 day workshop. She highlighted the importance of yoga in the life of each  and every individual. The prominent Yoga teachers and practitioners delivered lectures during the workshop.These include Prof. G.D. Sharma, former Chairman department of Yoga, Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla, Dr. Laxminarayan Joshi, Head and Dean Students Welfare, Uttarakhand Sanskrit University, Haridwar, Shri Parvinder Singh ji Punjabi University Patiala, Dr. Arpita Negi, Dept.of Yoga, Himachal Pradesh University, Mr Mohit, Mr Balvinder and Mr Prashant.There were total 12 sessions on yoga for healthy spine, for managing constipation, for thyroid problems, for obesity, for diabetes management and for ensuring good mental health .The research scholars from different universities participated and demonstrated their skill and expertise in the field of yoga.
